Tuesday scent of the day 12/3

Posted by Robin on 3 December 2024 114 Comments

It's (Teapot) Tuesday and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Also, Joseph Conrad’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Eau d'Italie Baume du Doge. Tea at the moment is Kusmi Troika.

Reminder: 12/6 will be Plus One Friday...wear your favorite layering combination, or try a brand new one. (We've done variations on this project before.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Raynaud Imari teapot ("...designed by Olivier Maillefer, is elaborated in all shades of colors and motifs and is an elegant reinterpretation of traditional Japanese Imari. Imari is the name given to porcelains made in Japan on the island of Kyūshū that are adorned with cobalt blue and iron red") is $1,115 (oh dear) at FX Dougherty.

Not thrilled about the daily outages, but I am excited about this week’s CP! I’ve come up with several layering combinations, and now the challenge is to pick just four for the week.

Today’s combo is called “Snow Queen’s Secret Garden”: Cristalle EDT + Carnal Flower + vintage Fidji EDT. It’s a blend of frosty, crisp green notes, elegant florals, and earthy woods. Smells chic and chyprey!

Glannys, I never would have thought of that. I do not have any Fidji but will try Cristalle and Carnal Flower together…

I think Fidji can be replaced here with Le Chevrefeuille or Heure Exquise or maybe even Chanel No. 19. I never tested this, but I believe it should work, even though the result will be less mossy and more floral.
Let me know how it went, if you try it.

Good morning, NST. Today I will layer L’Artisan L’Eau d’Ambre with Safran Troublant. They’re very similar to my nose, but I wanted to see how this would work.
Tea of the morning is MF French Breakfast.
I like more vintage-style teapots, plus they’re much cheaper than today’s, lol!

Oh gosh, no, it didn’t come across as complaining! Was just explaining. For copyright reasons can only rarely use vintage teapot images and they are way more work to find.

Anyway mostly I just look for pretty teapots. Sometimes they are cheap, sometimes they are expensive, sometimes they are crazy expensive. Doesn’t matter, I am not buying any of them!

Good morning! Light dusting of snow here, and raging blizzards on either side of me, within 50 km. Weather is weird.

I’m in Mona di Orio’s Dojima. I love this scent all year. Really dry spices over amber, and it’s a different choice from fragrances I normally wear. I like it a lot.

Hope all you good smelling people have a good day.

    Hello NST, lovely teapot!
Today I am sampling Penhaligon’s Luna. It reminds me of Diptych L’Ombre Dans l’Eau, only it’s less green, more girly, the rose is a bit more prominent. I think these two would layer nicely.

I’m a noncompliant CPer today and don’t imagine I’ll be compliant at all this week. Still working with my sample stash and decided on Amouage Opus VI from a dabber. It’s a fairly nice light amber so far, but nothing earth shattering. I’ll enjoy it for now and then move on without regrets. Wish I could say the same for my past relationships! 😉

Hoping all the people getting slapped with winter stay warm and safe. Seems to be two seasons these days- extreme summer and extreme winter. I can’t complain at the moment because it’s very sunny here with a predicted high of 81F. Wish I could send you all about 25 degrees of heat and a slice of sunshine. 🌞

    Vanille Insensee.
I came back to work yesterday and it was oddly slow for a Monday, which was nice to ease back in. I doubt I’d have been ready if I were still working 12 hour shifts on my feet all day, but luckily those days are behind me.
We have gone from unseasonably warm to unseasonably cold here. Last night I added a second comforter to my side of the bed and slept much better. The night before I woke up in the middle of the night cold but was too lazy to get up and get another blanket and didn’t want to get out from underneath the covers so I just laid there being miserable lol.

Glad you’re feeling better, madtowngirl. I’ve had those nights before, lol! The DH and I have worked out the perfect solution after many years. First, comforter for entire bed. Second, 2 small, throw-size comforters* at the foot, one for each. Now we each get to add/subtract extra warmth at will without bothering the other. And we worked out an accordion fold for the small ones, so all we have to do is reach down and pull up.I took off the coverlet since it was just getting in the way.
*leftovers from a previous, bigger house.

Yes, that’s exactly what I do except my spouse doesn’t get an extra blanket because he’s never cold. I do the accordion fold just like you and last night just pulled it up when I got chilly. Perfect! I started doing this last winter after reading about the Scandinavian sleep method, which I had never heard about.

It’s 34F and foggy here, so cold and damp. The neighbors are having their roof replaced and the workmen started early, so my daily chores are done. I’m waiting for it to warm up so I can go out and rake more leaves. For the CP on Friday I will probably copy somebody, I am terrible at layering. Today I’m wearing CdG Kyoto.

Summer is here! Birkenstocks on my feet, zinc on my nose, hat on head! It reached 30C yesterday and I had to keep to the shadows when walking the dog, as the asphalt was hot. Today I’m off to my writers residency , where it will be even hotter . Wearing CDG Chalayan Airborne which is a bitter lemon , dry aromatic perfume with good lasting power. I think I could layer it with Gabrielle, for a hint of vanilla softness.

Gorgeous December weather – chilly nights, warm days.

I’m in “Sale Gosse,” from Frederic Malle. I’ve never smelled it on anyone, nor does anyone talk about it. Kind of a shame, because it’s lovely: gentle citrus and herbs, with a pronounced note of violet candy. It’s not sugary sweet – I don’t get much of the purported bubblegum note. It actually feels like an especially elegant offering from Acqua di Parma.

I wonder if Malle really expected children to wear it – the site indicates that Fanny Bal created it as “an eau de toilette for children,” but it also says it was created as an “ode to cheeky children.” So is it FOR or ABOUT kids? Maybe its summery quality is meant to remind us of the summers of our youth.

It’s playful, for sure, but “Lipstick Rose” is cheekier, (to my nose, anyway.) Are there any kids or young teens who’d want to wear it? Seems unlikely to me, but I’m not really in that loop anymore; I’ll have to introduce it to my 29-year-old daughter and see if she thinks she would have worn it at thirteen. (I’m Frederic’s age, and “Sale Gosse” suits me just fine.)

The name is a slight puzzle. I get a kick out of it, but I’m not sure it’s right for THIS perfume.

With its name and creative backstory, I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I do. It’s a charmer.😊

Commando today — Mr. Skal and I both have colds. Mild ones, thank goodness, but enough to make fragrance seem pointless.

I did try layering on Sunday — inspired by the CP and by reading others’ recent experiments (particularly Glannys’s). I started the day in HdP 1804, and then about an hour or two later, added a couple sprays of Prada Infusion d’Iris. The result was…rosemary! At first I thought my nose was deceiving me (or that I’d been transported back home, where Mrs. Meyers Rosemary is a favorite liquid soap). Nope — I smelled rosemary, it was coming from me, and it had to have been the layering. I loved it. Haven’t tried to duplicate the effect but will try later this week.

I had forgotten that we were supposed to layer perfume this week.
I wore Enlèvement au Sérail yesterday and some of that lingered on my cardigan, so I decided to wear Jubilation 25, as they are similar. Turns it works great and I can’t distinguish between the two.

That teapot is pure perfection, and I would never buy it for fear of breaking it.

I did get another small teapot from Damman Frères a couple of weeks ago, a lovely small one. Dark grey brown.

❤️ decant from cazaubon (anyone heard from her?) … citrus caramel vanilla!

4 days in a row of walkabouts. I promised to do more postings of lawn decors but have not stayed true to my words – 🤷🏻‍♀️ eh!

Here’s an article from the New York Times re: a new to me instrument – a celesta. I am curious to know if you were able to click on at least one of the links. I love it!

I was just wondering about cazaubon recently too. And pl67. Hope they are both well.

PL67 is doing okay. She will be back on here probably the first part of the year. We have been passing a few fragrances back and forth so I have had a little contact with her.

I love the sound of the celesta! The French composer Olivier Messiaen used it in some of his music, which often is unearthly.

Today I thunked my evaporating sample of Francesca Bianchi Unspoken Musk. I really like this one, which is good because my cardigan sleeves will probably smell like it until the end of time. Last time I wore it, it even survived through a shower scrub with both a bar soap and a shower gel. 😂

Yesterday I tried my sample of Arquiste Venice Rococo and loved it. If they offer it in travel spray, I may have to snag it once my sample’s gone. Reminds me of Teint de Neige though it’s been a long time since I’ve with that one. Venice has bright, sweet and cheerful floral notes of rose and orange blossom atop the powdery notes. A joy for me to wear.

I am wearing Guerlain Rose Cherie today; it’s a beautifully smooth rose scent. My day was weird because I got up for an early book group Zoom meeting and we ran late because were were discussing Tolstoy’s The Kreutzer Sonata. We all also watched a film version of it that was very heavy on sex and violence (which are in the story, but this was updated to California in the 1980’s and far more explicit). Rather racy for 9 a.m.! After that I was wide awake and broke my normal rule about no k-dramas before noon by watching the 8th and final episode of the new series The Trunk on Netflix. OMG that show as very dark and very addictive. Not your mother’s k-drama, I can say that. Very moody with fascinating electronic music.

Now I’m trying to figure out what’s for dinner, possibly using up a bag in the freezer of nice big scallops.

Wow. The Kreutzer Sonata is Tolstoy at his nastiest and most misogynistic. Would love to have been a fly on the wall in your book group! I have not seen the film (and probably won’t seek it out).

Posting late today. I had a humungous software update trying to download and install on my computer this afternoon. Took 4.5 hours, only to tell me that it failed and to try again. Nope! Bleeping software.

On the plus side, it was absolutely gorgeous here, with bright blue skies and temps right around 60. But I would gladly swap with some of the people getting hammered by snow right now. The drought map is still looking pretty bad here.

SOTD = back in Fzotic Feu Secret again today.
