Happy Thanksgiving 2024 ~ open thread

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!

Whether you’re celebrating or not, feel free to talk about anything you like: what fragrance you’re wearing today, what perfume you're especially thankful for, what you’re going to cook or eat today...whatever you like, so long as it doesn’t conflict with our comment policy.

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate. Will be wearing no 5 edt after my shower. Covid has made my sense of smell kind of strange. I go through periods of where I can’t smell and other periods on where I can. But my sense of taste is fine for some reason. Just watching the Macy’s parade but just want to see dog show.

It’s just my parents and I am will be starting our turkey dinner in a bit. Found a unicorn while we were getting a turkey on Tuesday. Found a fresh turkey under 10 pounds. My mom really wanted turkey for Thanksgiving and my dad and I were trying to go for ham or a roasting chicken. We didn’t want tons of leftovers.

When I first read your post, I thought you had Covid now along with everything else. I finally realized you are talking about in the past.

Hope you have a good day with your parents.

You smell fabulous. I am house twins with you.

Good morning, all, and hope that everyone who celebrates the holiday enjoys it.
I am rebelling against tradition today. It will be just me and Mr. E, and I am making Indian food for dinner. I get stressed roasting a turkey for company (especially since I burned the gravy one year,) so today I’m refusing. Ha!

Last year, for the first time ever, I chose to not cook at all for various reasons and left it up to my son to decide what to do. We went out for a Chinese brunch! It was really fun to do something different for a change. Enjoy!

No shame! We don’t have any good Indian restaurants in our vicinity, so I usually make it. Your dinner sounds excellent. 😋 I was going to try and make halva, too, but ran out of time. Rice pudding? A life-long favorite. ❤️

If you knew me Aurora, you would know that I am that organized all the time🤣 I am very OCD about things. It drives some people a little nuts. One time, when I was still working, my watch broke in the morning. The gal that sat next to me said, “I bet by this afternoon you will have a new watch.” She was right. I went out at lunchtime and bought a new watch.

I roasted the turkey like I normally would, then carved it, put it in a roaster pan, added a can of chicken broth and refrigerated it. Today, I put it in the oven for an hour with the dressing and the twice baked potatoes that I had prepared ahead of time too. Makes it a lot easier.

SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44

Down to almost my last dregs which will probably still last me for the next year or so.

Yesterday, I wore Patch from And fragrances and it was glorious. I was girding my loins for the dreaded auto inspection which I believe only happens in certain states. Anyway, it was a breeze with my car being the 3rd (I really should buy a lottery ticket) in line. Overall, the process was quick and I will be back again in two years unless I buy a new car but why would I?

I brought all the fruits that can fit into a turkey roasting pan and will be washing the fruits and the pan just before I leave for the celebration. I am potentially anticipating a charged discussion although we all really should get over it. In the meantime, mainstream media had all these alternate discussion topics. So, appropriate for the eventual effects of tryptophan, I have a gift article on napping!

Good luck avoiding all controversial conversations today!!!

I thought all states had car inspections but what do I know. Everyplace I have lived so far had them. At any rate, in PA I often let mine expire before I remember and have never gotten a ticket, unlike the case in DC and CA 🙂

And I am buying a new car in the next week, very excited as my trusty Honda Fit is now 15 years old and that is enough for me.

Oh, congratulations on your new car, that’s exciting!
I drive my dad’s old car, ’06 VW Jetta, a diesel with a manual transmission. It’s got some rust but it’s still under 100,000 miles.
And Indiana has no state vehicle inspection, so that farmers can drive their ancient tractors forever, at least I think that’s the reason.

Good luck with your new car. I have a 1998 Toyota which refuses to die, unfortunately. Here in NZ we have to get road-worthiness/ car inspections every six months for older cars ( like mine) and every 12 months for new vehicles.

I’m currently driving a 1993 Chevy Cavalier. I affectionately call it “a beater with a heater”. It’s manual everything.

I’ll have to get an emissions test for it in January. AFAIK, Colorado requires tests for that every year. No safety checks.

The turkey is in the oven!
I’m still under the weather and will probably stay in my pajamas all day. I have to be to work in the morning. It is supposed to start snowing tonight and through the weekend.
Last night at work, I had a coworker tell me ( through translation) that my perfume was delicious and where can she buy it. I was wearing Angel Muse which is discontinued and hard to find at a good price. I was so excited about how much she liked it that I gave her my bottle. It had about 20ml left.
Sharing perfume feels as good as wearing it.
Today I am wearing a dab of No.5 edt.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate! And a special 🙏 to Robin and all NSTers who make this such a special place!

SOTD is what I wear each Thanksgiving Day, Karl Lagerfeld’s classic KL. Its melange of spices and warm amber blend seamlessly with the food scents of the day!

My son is cooking our dinner today for the first time; all I have to bring is my easy glazed sweet potatoes and fresh cranberry relish, which I put together yesterday. What a treat to relax on this day, and watch the parades and the dog show. I am grateful! Plus, it’s his birthday, so I have lots to be grateful for today.🙏

The traditional Thanksgiving dinner has been replaced in my house by steak, Yorkshire pudding, roasted mushrooms, and pumpkin custard with cinnamon streusel and whipped cream. I had dessert for breakfast and the pumpkin custard is delicious.
Thank you Robin, for NST these many years, through joy and tragedy, and thanks to everyone who posts here. This is truly a little oasis of calm in a turbulent world.

Today I’m sporting Montalé Wood and Spices from a sample spray. I decided I liked it. I then made the mistake of looking up some reviews on Fragrantica and wow! Reviews were all over the map. One commenter likened it to cat pee in a dirty armpit and another stated it was fresh, light, and up lifting- the perfect everyday “clean” scent. I don’t smell any dirty armpit or cat pee but I’m keeping my nose on alert! 🚨😂

Happy Thanksgiving American friends. It’s a tradition I loved during my twelve years in NYC. It’s a regular evening in the UK but I’m having root vegetables mash for dinner to keep in the spirit of things and enjoying vicariously your food preparations.

I’m lying on my bed as I had the covid vaccine late this afternoon, no side-effect so far. This morning I chose Caron Farnesiana as I don’t wear my Caron perfumes enough. It’s probably my most distinctive mimosa, so almondy, not very sweet but practically edible. Tonight it’s YR Folies de Saisons Délires d’automne, a favorite and although my bottle is already half gone I’ve just found a bub and bought it immediately.

Happy Thanksgiving to the NSTers who celebrate!

The radio station I listen to played “Alice’s Restaurant” at noon, so I also heard the appropriate holiday music. 😉

It’s just me and Teflon kitty today. 🐈 I had Thanksgiving dinner with my brother yesterday. He works on Black Friday, so jumping ahead a day fit with his schedule better. We had surf & turf; steak, snow crab legs, roasted baby potatoes, and broccoli in garlic butter. Dessert was courtesy of Krispy Kreme and Bubbies Ice Cream Mochi, passionfruit flavor. 🦀🥩🥦🥔🍩🍺

SOTD = back in Smell Bent TEN. After wearing it a few days, I realized that it is a stripped down cousin to AG Encens Flamboyant. An excellent blind buy for me!

We cooked the main dishes and the sides. My brother grilled the steaks, I taught him how to microwave the crab legs, the broccoli was in a microwave-safe bag, and I roasted the potatoes in his oven.

He picked me up early in the afternoon, and we spent time at his place. He has a house with much bigger kitchen that what my apartment has.

Happy Thanksgiving! I’ve been away at a family gathering in Florida and only had time to stop by to lurk. No CP points for me since the Tonka challenge! Today was beautiful and I went for a beach wade and walk then fixed red snapper and grouper for dinner along with some tasty veggies and rice. My sister reminded me that we used to often pick red snapper for our birthday meal as kids. Funny that I forgot that; I just knew I liked the name and the fish was fresh from the Gulf. I brought my bottle of Shalimar MT so I’ve gotten to know and enjoy it as if I had a signature scent! Off to try and finish our last jigsaw puzzle and take another look at the beautiful dark sky. Venus has dazzled us all week.

    Hello all!

I had a rather nontraditional Indian lunch with my mother today. I was supposed to follow that with a very traditional Thanksgiving at a friend’s house but their father wasn’t feeling well. I decided to stay home and knit with Miss Marple mysteries. I wore Nahéma parfum and it was the perfect warmth.

I had made a clarified milk punch for my friend’s gathering, a paloma with a bit of spice. I’m having a nightcap and it’s delicious! Worth the work.

    Have a great weekend, everyone.
