Wednesday scent of the day 11/27

Posted by Robin on 27 November 2024 81 Comments

It’s Hump Day and National Bavarian Cream Pie Day. Birthdays: James Agee, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Nye. Plus, Thanksgiving Eve aka Drinksgiving / Blackout Wednesday — be careful out there! What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Lalique Encre Noire because SheriG mentioned it over the weekend.

Reminder: on 11/29, pick your Black Friday poison: wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing a favorite cheap thrill, Rhubarb & Clary Sage by 4711. I’ve loved this for years, emptied a full bottle, bought a refill bottle, and I’ve gone through 1/4 of that. I love it in the spring and summer, but since the highs will be in the 80s today, I decided to wear it anyway.

Sounds like it’s time for another BUB.

I get to go back to work next week and not exactly happy about it but I can’t afford to be out of work any longer. Thinking of either Jubilation 25 or maybe Epic today.

Yesterday was a day that I used some of my Ulta rewards points to make a purchase. Got a gift set of Estee Lauder Pleasures and a few other things. Only had to spend $2.00 but still have $300 in rewards left over.

Oh, darn. I thought you were going to be able to be off over Christmas too. Oh, well at least you got a little time off. Hope you are feeling better after that drain was removed.

Even if I were to take the whole leave, I would still have to work Christmas. Finances said it wasn’t possible for 2 and a half weeks.

Evan Healy Sweet Blossom organic body oil is my scent of the day. Smells as good as or even better than some of the more expensive body oils and it’s twenty five percent off now for Black Friday ( although I bought it with a birthday gift certificate from my girlfriend back in April)

Today I am in Love Extreme and trying to refrain from pulling the trigger to buy a refill of this. I also really love Liaisons Dangereuses. Also want a refill for Angels Share. Ok..I will stop.

Reading Horse and things have taken off and I am hooked.

Robin, you smell wonderful! I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, so I’ll report now that it was Omnia Ambra yesterday and Bel Ami last night at bedtime. Tried Bel Ami on Mr. G and I liked it on him but he seemed underwhelmed. Oh well — like it better on me anyway, and in these troubled times Bel Ami almost qualifies as a cheap thrill. I can’t detect a whole lot of difference between the vintage mini and the current version other than strength, and the FB acquisition was Black Friday adjacent, so I may go with hajusuuri-style sprays of it for the Friday CP. 😁

    SOTD is Indochine.

Making my turkey a day ahead of time this year. I don’t do that very often, but it makes it easier for tomorrow. I guess it is no big deal as it will only be my husband and stepdaughter so it’s not like there will be a crowd. Even for our little group I still make all the typical Thanksgiving food.

We will be a small group this year as well, and we’re having turkey thighs instead of a whole turkey. We’re all dark meat fans anyway.

That makes it easy then, if you can find a bunch of turkey thighs. Isn’t that difficult?

    Don’t think I’ve ever heard of Blackout Wednesday… What’s bass-ackwards concept.🤔

I’m wearing Lann-Ael by Lostmarc’h today from my faithful sample stash. I think I must have ordered this one years ago when I was on the hunt for a dupe for Vanilla Lace. (Never did find one). Anyway, nice enough but not something I’d want a FB of.

Hope all the holiday preppers go about your business today without a hitch in your giddyup. Here’s to wishing your turkey is done to perfection, your mashed potatoes without even a single lump, and your guests in awe of all your mad skilz! Turkey on! 🦃

My SOTD is my recent cheapie blind buy success, Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson. It’s an ambery patchouli with some resemblance to much more expensive scents like that old Prada in the rectangular bottle and even Coromandel. I got the travel spray for less than $5 to bump up my total to get free shipping.

My son came home sick from work today and then my mom called and she doesn’t feel well, so our Thanksgiving is basically cancelled. Luckily I got a free turkey from my son’s work, so I’ve just dry brined it and will cook it tomorrow with what I have in the house already…brussels sprouts and sauteed mushrooms.

Plus, 5 kinds of ice cream in the freezer which is all that matters.

I’m apologizing today for recommending my favorite sandalwood to someone on here yesterday (sorry I can’t remember who it was) asking about sandalwood scents. I said the one by L’Artisan but this morning I realized that no, I meant the one by MPG. There’s something about the shape of those gold bottle caps on them that made me mix them up but I got this one out today and love it! It’s MPG Santal Noble and it’s a very dry sandalwood, though it has top notes of coffee, spices, and incense. It’s a gorgeous scent!
Just made my first batch of those pumpkin cookies with salted maple icing and I’m waiting for them to cool down enough to frost. So far both the dough and the icing have tasted pretty good! Not too hard to make, though it was an unusually sticky dough (maybe because it has a whole “stick” of melted butter in it?).

In Róisín Dubh — I think none of travel decants I brought with me came from a bottle that counts as a cheap thrill. Probably Monday’s Poison (free! because came from a tester in the shops) is as close as I will get this week.

Just back from our combination farewell/Thanksgiving dinner with most of our students and some of our colleagues. It was a respectable facsimile of Thanksgiving basics (turkey breast, roasted veg, mashed potato). Alcohol-free, so no drinksgiving worries. I did miss the cranberry sauce (at home I always make my own, Team Whole Berry). Mr. Skal has class tomorrow, so we won’t even try to do the holiday meal for ourselves.

I will say the students distinguished themselves this evening in their unprompted expressions of gratitude toward the university staff here in Ireland who made their semester run so smoothly. That has not often been the case in past programs. These are good, smart young adults and it has been a pleasure to spend time with them.

Safe travels to all the NSTers who are on the road for the holiday!

On an impulse I sprayed Prada Infusion de mandarine and it gave me it’s usual boost, it’s definitely one of my top citrus scents and tonight it’s vintage Lancôme Magie Noire, I find Magie easier to wear but tonight I find MN so resinous and well, dark, I’m enjoying it.

Anatole Lebreton Uruk for me today…coming back to try it again. So far I’ve found most of the perfumes interesting but nothing FB-worthy. (I thought maybe Brioche, but came back to it yesterday, and no.) Are these a cheap thrill? Maybe because I got them in samples?

I am doing a sort of Thanksgiving twice removed thing tomorrow. Twice removed because a) we’re Canadian, though with US passports (and we were in Italy during Canadian Thanksgiving), and b) we’re in Germany now. I told Ockeghem Teen that we’re having a “large chicken” tomorrow, and she looked into the fridge where it was dry brining, and confirmed that it did seem to be a very large chicken. (“It must be a rooster!”) It is, in fact, a duck, but we suspect she’d be turned off by that, so we’ll try to slide it in unnoticed. Ducks and geese are so much easier to get over here that it seemed a shame not to do one (and turkeys are harder to get and no way I’m carrying a turkey with all the rest of the groceries up four flights of stairs). And I’ll have to be on a four-hour leadership call during our dinner, which adds a new layer to things this year. But really, it’s all about the stuffing. Stuffing will be eaten. And it will be Thanksgiving.

Making pies (apple, pumpkin that’s actually butternut squash and pecan). Heading over to my cousin’s house tomorrow. There should be close to 30 of us because most of my family is from Seattle or gravitated back here.

I was going to wear CdG Peppermint by Bertrand Duchaufour from the Sherbet series because it was a new purchase but I’m afraid it’s not for me and will go in the swap pile. There’s something about the mint leaf and musks that don’t work for me.

So I wore Chanel Boy, thanks to a generous NSTer and it was perfect!
