It’s Hump Day and National Bavarian Cream Pie Day. Birthdays: James Agee, Jimi Hendrix, Bill Nye. Plus, Thanksgiving Eve aka Drinksgiving / Blackout Wednesday — be careful out there! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Lalique Encre Noire because SheriG mentioned it over the weekend.
Reminder: on 11/29, pick your Black Friday poison: wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing a favorite cheap thrill, Rhubarb & Clary Sage by 4711. I’ve loved this for years, emptied a full bottle, bought a refill bottle, and I’ve gone through 1/4 of that. I love it in the spring and summer, but since the highs will be in the 80s today, I decided to wear it anyway.
The 80s, lucky you!!
Sounds like it’s time for another BUB.
I get to go back to work next week and not exactly happy about it but I can’t afford to be out of work any longer. Thinking of either Jubilation 25 or maybe Epic today.
Yesterday was a day that I used some of my Ulta rewards points to make a purchase. Got a gift set of Estee Lauder Pleasures and a few other things. Only had to spend $2.00 but still have $300 in rewards left over.
Wearing Pleasures would fit into my 90’s Revlon lipstick I have lol
Oh, darn. I thought you were going to be able to be off over Christmas too. Oh, well at least you got a little time off. Hope you are feeling better after that drain was removed.
Even if I were to take the whole leave, I would still have to work Christmas. Finances said it wasn’t possible for 2 and a half weeks.
Glad you were able to get such a good deal at Ulta and that you pampered yourself after dealing with all of these health issues.
2.00 dollars!
You go, Dawn!
It seems a very short time to recover from surgery. Get 100% well soon.
Two weeks was the bare bones minimum but needed to go back to work.
Evan Healy Sweet Blossom organic body oil is my scent of the day. Smells as good as or even better than some of the more expensive body oils and it’s twenty five percent off now for Black Friday ( although I bought it with a birthday gift certificate from my girlfriend back in April)
That looks lovely! Is the scent mostly orange blossom?
Saks has 15% off beauty and BG has their beauty gift card…
Today I am in Love Extreme and trying to refrain from pulling the trigger to buy a refill of this. I also really love Liaisons Dangereuses. Also want a refill for Angels Share. Ok..I will stop.
Reading Horse and things have taken off and I am hooked.
When does “Horse” take off? I have tried to read it 2x and put it aside.
Around a page 117…Did you get that far?
No, I never got past page 50. Thanks!
once you get close to 100 pages you should keep a hanky close if you have a fragile heart
Robin, you smell wonderful! I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, so I’ll report now that it was Omnia Ambra yesterday and Bel Ami last night at bedtime. Tried Bel Ami on Mr. G and I liked it on him but he seemed underwhelmed. Oh well — like it better on me anyway, and in these troubled times Bel Ami almost qualifies as a cheap thrill. I can’t detect a whole lot of difference between the vintage mini and the current version other than strength, and the FB acquisition was Black Friday adjacent, so I may go with hajusuuri-style sprays of it for the Friday CP. 😁
Woot woot! And since I am not going to be anywhere on Friday, I may do double hajusuuri 🤣🤣🤣.
What a funny thing if Bel Ami is now a cheap thrill, but I’m sure you’re right!
SOTD is Indochine.
Making my turkey a day ahead of time this year. I don’t do that very often, but it makes it easier for tomorrow. I guess it is no big deal as it will only be my husband and stepdaughter so it’s not like there will be a crowd. Even for our little group I still make all the typical Thanksgiving food.
We will be a small group this year as well, and we’re having turkey thighs instead of a whole turkey. We’re all dark meat fans anyway.
That makes it easy then, if you can find a bunch of turkey thighs. Isn’t that difficult?
One of our local (fairly upscale, so we don’t shop there often) markets had enough for four people.
Nice!
Well, in my book, Indochine is always a big deal.
True!
Small group here too. My turkey still isn’t thawed.
Are you kidding?!? Wow, and yours was smaller than mine. I did have one big ice chunk I took out of the cavity. It took a little longer to cook too. My husband and I are terrible carvers so glad no one saw us.
Maybe my refrigerator is set too cold?
I suppose that is possible. I think mine is a little too. You can always do the cold water method to finish the thawing process.
Don’t think I’ve ever heard of Blackout Wednesday… What’s bass-ackwards concept.🤔
I’m wearing Lann-Ael by Lostmarc’h today from my faithful sample stash. I think I must have ordered this one years ago when I was on the hunt for a dupe for Vanilla Lace. (Never did find one). Anyway, nice enough but not something I’d want a FB of.
Hope all the holiday preppers go about your business today without a hitch in your giddyup. Here’s to wishing your turkey is done to perfection, your mashed potatoes without even a single lump, and your guests in awe of all your mad skilz! Turkey on! 🦃
My mom was a bartender and always said tonight was the worst for drunk driver’s being out. Unfortunately I have to work until 1 am tonight so I will be on the look out.
Do be careful!
Well, be careful!
I hope your work day goes smooth (and fast), plus that your drive home is uneventful!
I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue parfum this morning. It’s gray here but not raining so after I take Bertie Wooster for his Solensia I’ll take a walk.
There’s nothing quite like L’heure Bleue, you smell beautiful!
I’ll have to pull out my decant. I ended up giving my bottle away because I found that L’hB wore me. However I bet it’s really good in cold weather.
L’heure Bleue is lovely. Have you ever tried L’heure de Nuit? I love L’heure de Nuit but was bummed when it was discontinued.
Hello.
Sotd is LVEB l’Elixir.
I only bought a black forest cake yesterday. But! My uncle will be visiting tomorrow and joining us for Thanksgiving dinner so I asked if he could bring a carrot cake. Ha. I will also be making a sweet potato pie. Gotta eat them veggies right? 😉
The more I smell L’Elixer the more I like it.
Oh, good! Lots of sweets for you.
Glad you’re getting them both in!
Happy drinksgiving everyone! Just kidding. I have to be up at [redacted] for a 5 am flight 🙁 wearing poopoo pidou today so the news isn’t all bad.
Safe travels!
Oh, you smell fantastic!!
Hope your travels go without a hitch.
I’m wearing another recent purchase (well, actually two years ago, but time passes so quickly that it feels recent), Ormonde Jayne Ta’if.
You smell great!
You smell wonderful!
My SOTD is my recent cheapie blind buy success, Fancy Nights by Jessica Simpson. It’s an ambery patchouli with some resemblance to much more expensive scents like that old Prada in the rectangular bottle and even Coromandel. I got the travel spray for less than $5 to bump up my total to get free shipping.
I love a good free shipping deal!
Chanel Coco EDT
Perfect!
Smelling fabulous!
How big of a difference is there between the EDT and EDP? I keep flirting with getting a bottle of the edt.
Still perfuming myself with samples: George Sand today, the Nicolas de Barry. It’s really nice, and really finished.
Gosh, could swear I smelled that once but now I can’t remember.
Post shower Encense Suave.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
And my matching revlon lippe to LTSG.
🙂
I’m getting ready for work tonight and wearing Angel Muse. I think my son gave me his cold. I’m hoping it’s short lived.
Do wrap a scarf around your throat and plenty of hot drinks, Lillyjo and vitamin C before starting your shift, hope the cold will disappear.
Boohoo. Hope you aren’t getting sick. Drink fluids!
Good luck lillyjo!
My son came home sick from work today and then my mom called and she doesn’t feel well, so our Thanksgiving is basically cancelled. Luckily I got a free turkey from my son’s work, so I’ve just dry brined it and will cook it tomorrow with what I have in the house already…brussels sprouts and sauteed mushrooms.
Plus, 5 kinds of ice cream in the freezer which is all that matters.
Oh, no that’s too bad. Well, you sound like you have what it takes to make a good meal and lots of ice cream!
I’m apologizing today for recommending my favorite sandalwood to someone on here yesterday (sorry I can’t remember who it was) asking about sandalwood scents. I said the one by L’Artisan but this morning I realized that no, I meant the one by MPG. There’s something about the shape of those gold bottle caps on them that made me mix them up but I got this one out today and love it! It’s MPG Santal Noble and it’s a very dry sandalwood, though it has top notes of coffee, spices, and incense. It’s a gorgeous scent!
Just made my first batch of those pumpkin cookies with salted maple icing and I’m waiting for them to cool down enough to frost. So far both the dough and the icing have tasted pretty good! Not too hard to make, though it was an unusually sticky dough (maybe because it has a whole “stick” of melted butter in it?).
Ooh, the cookies sound wonderful!
Do report back after you taste the cookies!
In Róisín Dubh — I think none of travel decants I brought with me came from a bottle that counts as a cheap thrill. Probably Monday’s Poison (free! because came from a tester in the shops) is as close as I will get this week.
Just back from our combination farewell/Thanksgiving dinner with most of our students and some of our colleagues. It was a respectable facsimile of Thanksgiving basics (turkey breast, roasted veg, mashed potato). Alcohol-free, so no drinksgiving worries. I did miss the cranberry sauce (at home I always make my own, Team Whole Berry). Mr. Skal has class tomorrow, so we won’t even try to do the holiday meal for ourselves.
I will say the students distinguished themselves this evening in their unprompted expressions of gratitude toward the university staff here in Ireland who made their semester run so smoothly. That has not often been the case in past programs. These are good, smart young adults and it has been a pleasure to spend time with them.
Safe travels to all the NSTers who are on the road for the holiday!
My mom is making me a batch of (whole berry) cranberry sauce this weekend…I don’t care so terribly about it with turkey but it is my favorite thing on steak 🙂
How nice that you got an appreciative (and smart!) batch of students.
Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
On an impulse I sprayed Prada Infusion de mandarine and it gave me it’s usual boost, it’s definitely one of my top citrus scents and tonight it’s vintage Lancôme Magie Noire, I find Magie easier to wear but tonight I find MN so resinous and well, dark, I’m enjoying it.
Aurora that sounds like the perfect scent transition from day to night 🙂
Thank you Robin, yes you are right they each fulfilled their role so well and I feel I hadn’t been fair to Magie Noire before😀
Anatole Lebreton Uruk for me today…coming back to try it again. So far I’ve found most of the perfumes interesting but nothing FB-worthy. (I thought maybe Brioche, but came back to it yesterday, and no.) Are these a cheap thrill? Maybe because I got them in samples?
I am doing a sort of Thanksgiving twice removed thing tomorrow. Twice removed because a) we’re Canadian, though with US passports (and we were in Italy during Canadian Thanksgiving), and b) we’re in Germany now. I told Ockeghem Teen that we’re having a “large chicken” tomorrow, and she looked into the fridge where it was dry brining, and confirmed that it did seem to be a very large chicken. (“It must be a rooster!”) It is, in fact, a duck, but we suspect she’d be turned off by that, so we’ll try to slide it in unnoticed. Ducks and geese are so much easier to get over here that it seemed a shame not to do one (and turkeys are harder to get and no way I’m carrying a turkey with all the rest of the groceries up four flights of stairs). And I’ll have to be on a four-hour leadership call during our dinner, which adds a new layer to things this year. But really, it’s all about the stuffing. Stuffing will be eaten. And it will be Thanksgiving.
A large chicken!! Well, let us know if you pull that off or if she suspects 🙂
I’m in My Insolence today. I received this in a swap with a most generous NST’er; I believe it’s been discontinued so I’m forever grateful to have this in my collection! Happy Thanksgiving eve to you all!
I think Smurfy gurly has a really old review on My Insolence. IIRC, it’s where I first heard of it.
Yes, I think I saw her same review. I remember seeing the fragrance on F’Net but never got it. Then poof, it was gone!
I’m in a cheap thrill today, Rebecca Minkoff. I bought a 30ml for around $16 last year, and I think it was $16 well spent!
Indeed!
Making pies (apple, pumpkin that’s actually butternut squash and pecan). Heading over to my cousin’s house tomorrow. There should be close to 30 of us because most of my family is from Seattle or gravitated back here.
I was going to wear CdG Peppermint by Bertrand Duchaufour from the Sherbet series because it was a new purchase but I’m afraid it’s not for me and will go in the swap pile. There’s something about the mint leaf and musks that don’t work for me.
So I wore Chanel Boy, thanks to a generous NSTer and it was perfect!
