Tuesday scent of the day 11/26

Posted by Robin on 26 November 2024 147 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Cake Day. Birthdays: William Cowper, Mary Edwards Walker, Eugène Ionesco, Tina Turner, Marilynne Robinson, Elizabeth Blackburn. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm commando for a routine doctor appointment later this morning. Tea at the moment is Upton Meleng Estate Assam.

Reminder: on 11/29, pick your Black Friday poison: wear the last fragrance you bought, wear a cheap thrill, or wear a fragrance you love but refuse to buy in a full size because it's too expensive. (We've done this project several times.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Fir Branches with Golden Pinecone Teapot from Augarten ("...with intricately hand-painted pine branches and golden pinecones. Elegantly adorning the Belvedere shape, a classic Augarten pattern designed in 1735, which has a gentle scalloped rim") is $$1,251 (oh my) at Kneen & Co.

I’m wearing DSH Inner Sanctum again today since I’m wearing yesterday’s around the house sweater, which smells great. This is the perfume I bought two years ago with my mom’s gift (it’s the same amount of cash every year.) The only requirement is that it goes for something I really want and I usually get perfume but this year I need boots. It’s fun to plan on.
I like the wintery teapot! It’s difficult to find decor for winter without a holiday theme.

Cute teapot! I thought it would be something affordable til I got to the end of the paragraph. Money saved. No SOTD yet. Getting my oil changed and tires rotated before we hit the road for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Craving a cotton candy comfort scent. Ralph Lauren Beyond Romance fits the bill best since it’s not a total toothache, but is at my office, so may have to go with Pink Sugar.

I wore the original Romance for years. I thought it was such a pretty scent. My mother, who died four years ago, wore it too so it would be difficult for me to wear now.

    Hello.
Sotd is MMM Untitled. Beautiful green scent, like being in the middle of a forest. It’s been days since I last spritzed and do I miss it!
Cake day is fitting because I am buying a cake for mum to celebrate her successful surgery and finally being home. We are thinking black forest or carrot cake.

Such a good sign that your mother is home. I just bought a carrot cake too, maybe we will be cake twins, I don’t even have the excuse of a celebration like you but I sure enjoyed the slice I had.

I’m wearing Hermann à mes Côtés, which is a favorite. I bought a 30ml bottle last year, and it’s about 1/3 gone. I know that I will probably spring for the big bottle when its gone.

My drain was removed yesterday. My skin has calmed down and there is some irritation right where the drain was but I feel so much better.

Getting our turkey today with yams and some dessert. Debating on Lyric or some Rose de Nuit for today.

It may be cake day but I’ve just enjoyed the most gorgeous cranberry walnut bread from Costco. It’s not a sweet, desert bread, but a delicious whole wheat nutty, tangy bread that toasts up all crispy on the outside but remains soft and tender inside. Yum! They stock this all holiday season so I’ll have to make sure I get back to a Costco again over the next few weeks.

Digging through the sample stash last night and found an OLD dabber sample of Montalé Patchouli Leaves. So old it was a dark, dark brown with visible sediment that had separated. Gave it a good shake and wore it last night to bed. Really gorgeous, especially as it settled down. This sample is probably over 10 years old and not sure why I didn’t get a spray sample of this when I got a huge collection of Montalé 3ml sample sprays a couple of years ago. Anyway, don’t know if it’s changed or been reformulated by now, but I’ll be reapplying after my coffee. Never thought I was a huge patchouli fan but I’m really enjoying this one.

Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday week! Here’s to some warm family get togethers this Thanksgiving. 🦃

As I was waiting for the Body Shop yoghurt-y cream to calm down (didn’t know peach could be such a punch in the nose), I then forgot to put any perfume on before I left the house. Am now in the fail-safe and sedate Prada iris absolue, my emergency backup perfume.

Today: Make the cranberry sauce, organize the dressing ingredients, make dressing for salad, make the pecan pie, make the sweet potato casserole, get ingredients for homemade pizza together (that’s tomorrow night’s dinner). Then clean bathrooms!

I’ve been finishing samples that I’ve had for years. Sprayed Nanban on Sunday, Iris Nazarena yesterday and an unnamed sample today. The label must have come off.

I’m wearing Chipmunk today. I did a little cleaning this morning but I need to get the ashes out of the fireplace, always a dusty, dirty job. In the spirit of the season I bought a can of pumpkin yesterday and I’ll make pumpkin custard in ramekins with a pecan graham cracker streusel on top. Like pie but without all the work of pie.

Anyway, not Hyde, which is an 18th-century-log-cabin-that-has-had-fires-in-it-every-day-since smoke bomb on me, and only softened slightly way into the drydown. (I like smoke, but not that much.) Probably Shangri-la is the one I’d get. But I won’t this weekend, apparently. Pretty sure it’ll be a Nicolaï purchase, but there will be some sniffing.

Greetings, everyone, from a person who is luxuriating in the thought of not having to clean my home for any guests and not having to cook a turkey… etc. Sorry!
My SOTD is Amouage Opus VIII which is just an incredibly beautiful perfume but it is SO HEAVY and STRONG that I wear it seldom–good thing since it’s discontinued. Yellow and white florals and amber. I am noticing more right now of its similarity to some of the perfumes I sampled (and one I bought) last December in Saudi Arabia, though I can’t pin down exactly what it is that’s the same.
At least I will be baking later today, or possibly tomorrow morning: those pumpkin cookies with salted maple frosting that I posted a link to the other day. I’ll let you know how they come out! I promised my physical therapist I would save some for her when she comes tomorrow, so that means if I make them today, I can’t eat them all. 😉

I’ve been a bit MIA but I’m finally making time to comment today! I’m in Chanel Boy for the cp since it’s one of the last bottles I purchased. Even though I haven’t been commenting much, I’ve still been reading NST and doing the CPs. I’m just usually a day or two behind in reading.

With the election, events that get me out and about, stress and body aches, and my partner finally being employed again and starting a job with a commute, there’s been a lot going on. I’m hoping by the end of the year, we’ll have gotten into a new routine.

I did want to share an article about a scented art exhibit at Seattle’s National Nordic Museum. https://www.thestranger.com/arts/2024/11/20/79791337/heaven-scent

There was another scented exhibit there in 2023 that I missed, but I’m definitely going to this one! I hope the gift shop has testers of the Fischersund perfumes because I’ve been curious about the line since it launched.

I was thinking about you today and voilà! I hope that you have some time off this weekend and in December/January to rest and regroup.

I heard about the Nordic Museum exhibit and need to get down there. They definitely had Fischersund testers the last time I was in the gift show.

You smell marvelous, by the way.

Unfortunately no extra time off for Thanksgiving, just the day of and the weekend. I’m planning to take some time off later in December though.

SOTD = Opula Perfumes Dulce Solis Violet

As I mentioned on my IG post, I rarely wear the same perfume twice in a row but I’ve done it with Dulce Solis Violet. There’s something in it that is making me want to wear it over and over again! My source is someone who posts here and I will let her decide if she wants to reveal this. Regardless, it is a wonderful perfume!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/DC2T8I0R9Px/?igsh=MXFrZTVhNzZnNTY0cQ==

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is so late this year! My car needs an inspection and I thought I had until next week to get it done but noooooo, Monday next week is already December 2nd 😱!

In other news, I am going to an aunt’s place for Thanksgiving. My contribution is a medley of fruits. I know I shouldn’t overthink this but I did. I will buy them at Wegmans tomorrow and I just have to decide on the container. I am doing the ultimate in laziness as I will simply wash the fruit and present them as is.

I’m wearing Alien liqueur version. It is being overpowered by my gingerbread hand wash.

I’m in Livre Blanc, both the last fragrance I purchased and a cheap thrill.

Still trying to maintain my no buy, and talked myself off the ledge yesterday. I almost purchased a bottle of Vanilla Eclat. It contains the notes of rice, vanilla and sandalwood. Right up my alley!

It definitely was a steal! I was pretty sad about missing her Talc by IUNX. I know the Zara uses more inexpensive materials, but in my head they were sister fragrances (or probably more like distant cousins).

So that is why they are less expensive. I was wondering how these big names were doing these fragrances, but that make sense. I wonder if they “go bad” quicker than the more expensive ones.

    No smoothie, plums instead.

Jasmins Marzipane since this morning, it’s an all day commitment as it is insanely strong, I resisted buying a 100ml bub yesterday, my 15 and my 30ml bottles will do. Tonight I applied Brécourt Farah on other spots to avoid JM, it has a delicious date note, otherwise I remember Phaedon Dzhari with date too, I liked it too but not as much. I did some Japanese grocery shopping distraction therapy late last night to get away from perfume shopping, I already did some damage and know as of now that my low buy will be broken next quarter.

Well, here goes: Caron Nocturnes, 50 ml £38 splash that the nice seller decanted in a high quality spray bottle she sent me the original Caron box which doesn’t fit the spray, it’s pretty so I’ll keep it, Guerlain AA Nerolia Vetiver Harvest 125ml £43; Aveda Love oil 30ml £20, that one is a unicorn as you would say and smells wonderful; Dioressence Eau parfumée 100ml bub £41, in the turquoise bottle, this is the OG 1st version by Guy Robert incredibly strong, it has its own listing on Fragrantica; 3 bpal oils, the Smithfield ghost, 5ml £10, Yule Oatmeal and apple cider cookies and Yule New snow in the avenue £28 for both. Oils don’t count for Donatella😀.

Commando today — I had an early medical appointment and then the day got away from me. Yesterday, I tested the current version of the original Poison. When it came out I had a glamorous acquaintance who wore but when I tried it, myself, I hated it on me. 30+ years later, I was curious. (Wait. Maybe closer to FORTY years later? Eek.)

Anyway, it’s a lovely scent, I enjoyed wearing it, but it’s not me. Maybe I’ll try something else tomorrow — holiday shopping is really picking up here and the SAs are quite eager to help. 🙂

I’ve been thunking a few lotions lately, so I started a new lotion today, and it was a rare body product FAIL for me. Especially since it’s something from Korres; their Thyme Honey Body Smoothing Milk.

On me, it is Not Good. This is my first experience with a honey scent that smells like pee. And it lasts. 😵😭

Eww.. I’ve heard that about honey. I only have had a few samples of a honey fragrance in Slow Dive. It’s more of the waxy honeycomb to me, rather than actual honey.

Nice to thunk a lotion or two! It’s one of those products that seems to multiply here so I have to consciously not buy any more for a long while.
