Wednesday scent of the day 11/20

Posted by Robin on 20 November 2024 157 Comments

It's Hump Day and World Children’s Day. Birthdays: Nadine Gordimer, June Christy, Dr. John, Duane Allman. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Tauer Perfumes Incense Flash.

Reminder: on 11/22, we're off to Nepal! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Nepal, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Nepal, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing La Panthere edp, from a mini. I always forget about this one, and really enjoy it.

I am commando for a doctor’s appointment this morning and making my dreaded weekly trip to the grocery store. When I get home, I plan to wear copious amounts of vintage Coco and I’ll take points for clove.
    Enjoy your day everyone 🌹

I do not mind my weekly shop so much, but am mystified by people who go more frequently…I cannot be bothered and would rather run out of things. Unless it’s half and half which is dire.

      Hope the appt went well!

I go 4-5x per week and my fridge is kind of empty. I have been good about using up stuff in my freezer.

My sister & her husband go nearly every day. I could not stand it! She could not stand to go once a week. So, we all have our habits 🙂

My fridge is neither empty nor full. I do run out of things if I’ve planned poorly but other than half and half (ok, maybe also ice cream) I can make do.

I am with you about dreading the grocery shopping unless it’s a smallish nice place with personalized service, but unfortunately these kind of places doesn’t exist much anymore.
      I order online now.

    Hello.
Still down with the flu. My sinuses are stuffed like a Thanksgiving turkey. So no perfume today and plus I just checked my mum in to the hospital for her discectomy (treatment for herniated disc) tomorrow afternoon. I will be in the living in the hospital with her for the next 3-4 days so that also means no perfume.
I hope I can take care of her properly being only partially functional myself.
Just dropping by to say hello to you all despite being unscented!

I have a very busy day off and I am procrastinating. I have to go down to the hospital for a test today and then have another test tomorrow at the Doctor’s office. I tried to schedule everything before it starts snowing but it looks like that will happen overnight.

I am continuing with my Nepal-themed layerings. It is rather warm today, so it’s another fresh and green combo while I leave the heavier blends for Thursday and Friday.

D.S. & Durga Coriander + Diptyque Tam Dao

Durga is a goddess worshipped in Nepal. Regarding individual notes, cypress (Tam Dao), coriander, and pepper (Coriander) were already mentioned yesterday. However, I found some interesting information about rope incense making in Nepal:
“Rope incense is made primarily from cedarwood, sandalwood, juniper, cinnamon, cardamom and cloves all ground down to a fine powder and mixed with resins like Frankincense and myrrh which add to the rich earthy quality and control the slow burn.”

Coriander has juniper needle and clove stem, while Tam Dao has sandalwood.

I like this perfume combination – crisp, green, and spicy (Coriander) with meditative and serene (Tam Dao).

    Hello all!

Wearing a spritz or three of 31 Rue Cambon EdP (which I like just as much as the EdT.). It feels like fall today but I ended up leaving my coat in my car. I’m pretty warm-blooded so I got hot just walking to class.

I have 2! Exams today but luckily both of them can (and probably will) be dropped unless I make over a 90. So I’m prepared but not freaked like usual. I did find out my biochemistry and calculus 3 finals are the same day though. 🙁

    Have a great day everyone!

Sampling Andrea Maack Pavilions today, so the title alone should quaify me for the CP, right? Notes are praline, honey, saffron, rose, vanilla, amber, and oud, so the scent itself may earn me double points.
Ultimately, this one is waaay too sweet and gourmandy for me, which on my skin turns to a cloying blanket. It reminds me a bit of Dior Addict or Givenchy Indecence, the originals, so those who love perfumes in that bailiwick might approve. Thinking about the CP this week makes me realize that a large % of my collection is ambers, incenses, woods, spicy warm things. But I shy away from the sweet end of that spectrum.

I will give myself half a point for the cardamom note in Bel Ami. I noticed recently that it was no longer offered on the Hermes website, so I decided I would try to figure out how important it is to me to find that elusive vintage bottle. First I ordered a bottle of the current edt formulation, which arrived yesterday. Then I found a vintage mini that should arrive sometime soon. The current version is rather weak but still pretty, and I have a feeling that vintage is definitely the way to go … but we’ll see.

Anatole Lebreton Bois Lumiere for me today. I liked the opening, but in the end it has too much honey for me, even though it’s fairly restrained. Also there was something in the late drydown that took on that celery smell I get from perfumes that are going off.

Will have to move on to something else for my SOTE, but haven’t figured out what. Supposed to be cold here tonight. Low temperatures will be down near 0C until Sunday, when they suddenly are supposed to go to 17C. No idea what’s going on with the weather here, but it’s nuts.

There’s one perfume in the line that has a celery note on purpose — Racine Carrée. Luca Turin calls the addition of celery “brilliant” My notes on it are that I think I might enjoy it in summer — it’s a very dry iris with vetiver and a hint of celery. But there it’s on purpose. I don’t think it’s on purpose in the scent I tried today. I enjoyed the scent until about 3 hours after I’d sprayed.

Inspired by Kris yesterday, I’m wearing Iris Poudre today. It’s a beautiful morning after our “bomb cyclone” last night. Over 600,000 people are without power in western Washington, but we were fine. In fact, it didn’t seem as stormy as many other times. I think the SpringPansy household was just fortunate this time. Maybe our location helped.

I really need to try that line…I suppose I could order a sample set while I’m in the neighbourhood, but things are just…harder from the UK now. It may be as easy to do from Canada. Anyway, bright and green rosiness sounds lovely.

Woke up this morning to a long complaining email in my inbox. I remembered how my grandmother, (whose voice I can’t even remember she has been gone so long) would say things like “Bless her sweet heart” when she was confronted with hostility by someone. So my response was “bless your heart for a long thoughtful email!” LOL!

I am sticking with reading Horse (thank you Annie)
Watching Godless on Netflix. I love Michelle Dockery so I am hoping this show is good. I abandon the other show I was watching.

SOTD is Rose Prick-not as good as POAL-but I am in the mood for deep dark roses … open to suggestions 🙂

Have you explored DSH perfumes? I think she has a way with roses and Inner Sanctum is one of my favorite dark roses. Andy Tauer has a nice rose touch, too. Ungaro Diva is cheap online, another big bossy rose.

I plan to wear Aramis Calligraphy Rose and Mon Nom est Rouge this week. Both are darker takes on rose.

I also tend to perceive rose oud scents as dark rose perfumes, although I understand I am generalizing.

The original Agent Provocateur is a wonderful dark rose. I have a BUB of it. And it’s ridiculously cheap for something so good.

Also am a fan of Atelier Cologne Rose Anonyme, but I think that’s d/c’ed.

I’m wearing Salomé by Papillon Perfumes today. Not sure if it has any note connection to Nepal, but I’m wearing it today in support of female solidarity. There are females in Nepal, I’m quite sure!

Not sure if anyone else is following along with the Gisele Pelicot trials, but I do wish there was some way for me to reach out to this brave woman from across the pond and offer my support, meaningless as it may be. As any woman who has been a victim of male violence knows, the shame can be unbearable and disabling, not to mention the physical injuries. She’s an indomitable force and I admire her tremendously.

    ✊Female Power!

Yes, I’ve been following and I’m so impressed by her bravery. Reading about it in media in three or four countries, none of which are France. I too would like to tell her what an example she has been and how much I support her.

Kris…. about your comment about customer service yesterday ( I didn’t see it until this morning) I think it is age. It used to be you wanted to do a good job even if you were in a less than desirable job ( like retail/service) now people do their job based on their pay. I constantly hear things like ” I don’t get paid to smile” etc…

My SOTD is La Ravissante, which should work for the CP because it has a strong pomegranate note. I looked up Nepal on Wikipedia and learned to my surprise that it has three distinct climate zones, including one that is fairly warm and tropical, so it’s good for growing fruits including citrus and pomegranate. Also chestnuts, apples, and pears. I always thought of it as strictly a mountainous country with Mt. Everest and others.

I haven’t been up to much lately since I’m restricted to not driving. I got a big grocery store order delivered yesterday. Believe me, even a trip to the grocery store would be fun and exciting for me now! I’m feeling ok but my knee is a bit stiff. My home physical therapist is due to come in about half an hour, and let’s hope that some exercise will prove beneficial. It’s glorious weather here today and only 68 degrees. Nice clear blue sky and I’ve got a big window door open so the cats can go out and enjoy the porch outside.

Sampling Coreterno Mystic Sugar today and notes are below. It’s really nice so far and very Christmas-y in the opening w/ the orange and ginger methinks. This has been on my to try list for a while. I really like Nicola Thomis’ articles and reviews on Fragrantica and she has mentioned this house and reviewed this perfume in a Fragrantica Talks video too.

    HEAD: ORANGE, ALMOND BLOSSOM, PINEAPPLE
HEART: ABSOLUTE COCOA, CARDAMOM, JASMIN, GINGER, TONKA BEAN
BASE: ABSOLUT VANILLA, SANDAL WOOD, AMBER

    Frozen raspberries and yogurt smoothie

There’s been a bit of a cold snap these past few days, 4C today but it will get warmer by the end of the week. I realize I’m really missing the sun of Provence already, usually not very cold in southeast England but it can be cloudy or even overcast often. Today I chose BPAL Creepy oil, it has an incredibly realistic butterscotch note with apple and caramel, it’s from the 2006 Halloweenie collection, and only improved with age. I got several little bottles last quarter, I had already three in my collection, now 9 or 10 but they take very little space. Tonight I’m in Prada l’Eau Ambrée which has delicious citrussy notes and was discontinued for some unfathomable reason.

I pruned the rosemary bush that is taking over a corner of the yard, and I smelled so good I didn’t put on any other fragrance. I also had some lamb in the freezer, so it’s garlic, mustard, and rosemary lamb for dinner. Monday’s hailstorm took me by surprise but knocked the few remaining leaves off the maple tree, so I raked them up this afternoon.

I saw your post late yesterday about Atelier. I had a 10 ml of the Orange Sanguine in my hand and put it back (at Sephora). My bottles are 30 ml and 100 ml 😳 – Vanilla Insense, Oolang Infini and Silver Iris.

I have a travel spray of Rose Anonyme, and some smaller spray samples from Atelier. Can’t recall what exactly they are at the moment.

Used to have both Orange Sanguine and Vanille Insensee travel sprays, but I wasn’t really wearing them. So they went to a better home.
