Tuesday scent of the day 11/12

Posted by Robin on 12 November 2024 140 Comments

It's Tuesday and World Pneumonia Day. Birthdays: Grace Kelly, Booker T Jones, Neil Young. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Diptyque Volutes because adanst mentioned it in the weekend poll. Tea at the moment is Art of Tea Cardoz Legacy Masala Chai.

Reminder: on 11/15, wear a fragrance with tonka bean, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Frank Lloyd Wright Terra teapot ("...showcases one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s original designs etched into the cup's surface, capturing the essence of Frank Lloyd Wright’s design principles and his relationship with nature. This unique collaboration with the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation is rooted in tradition and celebrates creativity that inspires connections to nature, beauty, and each other") is on markdown, $33 at Tea Forté.

Love tonka bean! Taking points in Coco Noir.
Half price day for seniors at the Goodwill stores in my area. I’m looking for sweaters and books, they are often a good source, and some treasure hunting, of course.
Enjoy your day, good smelling folks.

    Hello.
Sotd is MMM REPLICA From The Garden. Green tomato leaves and a bright citrus opening. I really enjoy it. Love the smell of tomato leaves. Packs decent power for an edt.

    That’s a beautiful teapot.

It’s a foggy day here, and I’m in Bigarade Concentree to add a cheerful orange note to my day. I usually get a strong hay note later on-I love that note. And if I concentrate I can detect the rose, too.

Have a great day, you good smellin peeps 🙂

      You smell lovely!
Interesting that you get rose from it, I’ll have to pay attention next time. Good thing you don’t get the cumin note which puts off some people. I believe Robin is not a fan of BC because of it. On me it’s tolerable but I remember my husband saying that he detected a bit of armpit smell when he wore the perfume many moons ago. I bought it for him but I’m the only one wearing it these days.

Thanks, adanst 🙂 I might be ansomnic to cumin. I can smell it in real life, but not in Femme, or in BC. No clean sweat smell to my nose at all!

I am bad at spotting tonka in perfumes, so I will have to rely on manufacturer’s notes and Fragrantica. Today it is Lush Rentless, which is apparently quite tonka-forward.

Thank you – and thanks to everyone who kindly responded to my post yesterday. It’s been a no-work week so far, but that’s fine – I went to the dentist and did some shopping today.

Today we had a couple of air raid alerts (the usual daily amount), but I didn’t hear anything – no explosions, shots, or news of damage. Yesterday’s blackout was apparently due to a large number of Russian planes taking to the air, which usually signals potential missile launches. But yesterday, it seemed to be just a training flight. Although we all know what they’re training for…

I don’t even know how to respond to what you’re dealing with on the daily but want you to know that I wish I had a magic wand to stop all the suffering, not only in your country, but all over the world. I’m just so sick of violent craziness and think humanity all over the globe needs to hit a reset button. It’s all such a tragic waste…😢

Got the flu vaccine and COVID booster yesterday and feeling under the weather due to it. I think that I will get tons of won ton soup since I will be getting my surgery tomorrow and will want lighter foods for a while. Still waiting on the phone call to see when I need to be at the hospital for my surgery.

In Coco Mademoiselle but will be taking a shower and probably will switch over to Lyric.

I was surprised to see how many perfumes feature tonka (no, autocorrect, not Tonia) bean — it’s right up there with bergamot, apparently. This morning I’m in LVDP Tabac and discovering that it’s one of the “less is actually more” fragrances that go a bit quiet and then, suddenly, are wafting all around me. Very nice.

My surgery went really well and I can’t even feel pain in my knee now! It’s amazing! I’m getting another PT session this morning and then I can go home.

Today I am having a weird perfume experience. I was fine in the early morning but began sneezing and sniffing after the new nurse came on (the pca). She’s very strongly perfumed. I don’t recognize it and it’s pretty but obviously has set me off. I finally called for the other nurse to come in and asked if she can get me some Benadryl. She’s getting it. I explained and she said she’ll speak to the other nurse. It’s possible it’s something else but I think it’s this.

Your memory is correct! My plan now is to visit the store when I come back for my two-week checkup. Both the store and the doctor’s office are in large towers connected to the hospital building I’m in by Skybridges. It’s a bit too far for me to venture out across today. It the logic still holds: have a surgery = buy some jewelry item!

That’s wonderful! May I ask, did you book a package tour, or go through an agent, or put it all together, yourself? We prefer to be fairly independent when we travel (vs. a fully guided group tour), but I am finding that I have less time to research individual hotels and itineraries, and so end up just not booking holidays (other than our annual because trip, which hasn’t changed in years and is just a driving trip from home). Wondering what others prefer….

Wearing Kelly Caleche and chanelling Grace Kelly ( if she wore Birkenstocks, jeans , darned sweater and an unwashed face…so probably not). I’m back home as the house I am meant to be living in ( writers residency ) still didn’t have hot water or a fridge when I arrived, and even though I could cope with the situation I decided not to. It’s such a drag, really as it was all promised to be fixed and I had an email last Thursday saying repairs were done. On the bright side, my drive took me past a couple of peony farms, all in bloom. What an awesome smell. I’m now looking for a peony perfume. Also, the hillsides were purple, covered in wild thyme. I think winter might finally be over!

Unfortunately the house had major renovations so hasn’t been occupied for several years and the trustees/ lawyers managing the property don’t live in the same ( small) town as the house, so nothing has been physically checked over following tradespeople’s visits…so there’s been some lapses in communication. It will work out eventually and the house itself is incredible, so it’s worth waiting for.

Hi twin! Smelling very fine over there! I know the EDT isn’t available anymore, I and there is some difference with the EDP because I remember people here trying both versions and reporting back. Here is a short video regarding the differences between the two concentrations, if you’re interested. I e never tried the EDP, so have nothing to add from personal experience.

Trying Francesca dell’Oro Vanille 12:00 today and notes are below. This is a sweet yet floral vanilla to my nose so far. I tried Vanille 08:00 yesterday and enjoyed that too. They have just released Vanille 16:00 and Vanille 24:00 so it looks like I will need to hunt down samples of those. I have said it before and will say it again…my kingdom for a coffret! 😆 👑

Head Notes: Bergamot oil, Mandarin oil, white Peach, Apple, Pear
Heart Notes: Vanilla CO2, Vanilla absolute Madagascar Tasuki, Chantilly accord, Freesia, Rose
Base Notes: Caramel cream, Macaron accord, Tonka Bean, Cedarwood

I thought of you yesterday. I was watching a guy in the park throwing a ball for his dogs. One was a large collie X , bounding along at speed. The other was a daschund that also seemed to think it was a collie X … running as fast as it could to get the ball first. It almost appeared to be running on the spot, all action but no forward movement

    Hi fragrant friends.

Back in California after tending to my sister in Florida.
We visited with her son and daughter in law and the two granddaughters who had quite a wonderful time at the Sephora sale, courtesy of their nonni.

Then election day in Florida, which was different.

We also went to Lauren Groffs’ bookstore, The Lynx which was wonderful. It had not opened the last time I visited in April. A great community space in Gainesville.

    https://bookshop.org/shop/TheLynx

The weather was so awful, dark skies, rain and the air never moved. I am not cut out for humidity. YIKES.

My sisters’ surgery went really well with the exception of moving from first patient to last patient of the day. No coffee, water… nothing.
Her surgeon had a very strong coffee waiting for her in recovery and I picked her up and brought her home.
She was well enough to drive me to the airport and gift me with a bottle of Dior Ambre Nuit for all my services as long as I never wear it around her. And we planned two trips!

Read the Riley Keogh book on the way there and I Am a Girl From Africa on the way back.
    Started The Diplomat season one.

Just went with an oldie today, Philosophy warm cashmere? I have a big jar of the body cream and it smells yummy.

I’m not a fan of tonka.
Joining Robin and Deva in Volutes EdT. Only wish it lasted longer on me because I love it so. I wonder if the EdP has more presence and tenacity. The reviews I read seem to suggest so. I’m keeping my eye out for a bottle, preferably at some discount.

Came back from Provence Saturday night, difficult to believe that I’ve been away since September 21st. On the bright side I’m glad to be reunited with my perfume collection, and my lovely neighbors watered the plants faithfully, and looking forward to get back to commenting on NST regularly again. Today, I wore vintage Donna Trussardi and tonight YR Folies de Saisons Délires d’automne and I’m guilty of having purchased a bub yesterday, I like it that much, tonka is not listed.

I’m in tonka bean tonight as I picked up my Anatole Lebreton samples at the delivery place late this afternoon and I decided to try Kairos based on Luca Turin’s review. I’m liking the orange flower / creamsicle vibe on this one, though I tend to be more of a straight-up orange flower girl.

I’ve got a whole hefty 14 new samples to try! Looking forward to it!

My old shoes finally wore out. I’m wearing different shoes tonight that are killing my feet. I might have to wear the old ones until I can find something else. I have 4 hour’s to go and am dreading every step.
My sotd is Demeter Gingerbread but I don’t smell it anymore.

I hope you find some comfy new shoes; sorry that your feet are so sore. That happened to me with a “new” pair of runners. I was shocked at how sore my feet got with them.

Those Demeters can be short-lived, but they’re quite fun.

No tonka for me today, although I have a few perfumes that will fit the CP just fine. I felt like something different.

SOTD = back in Prada Infusion d’Oeillet. The far drydown was so nice yesterday that I had to wear it again today.

Today’s scent is Francesca Bianchi’s Unspoken Musc. This is very intriguing, but I’m not sure how much I like it. The opening is is a pretty and bright bergamot, soon joined by iris. After that, it starts to smell much more earthy and spicy. Unlike many musks, it doesn’t go sweet and powdery in the mid-range, but stays static. Perhaps I haven’t gotten to the dry down, but I would like to be introduced to another layer. It’s not happening. This is a real puzzler for me.
