Friday scent of the day 11/1

Posted by Robin on 1 November 2024 167 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Welcome to November (and Movember, Native American Heritage Month, National Pomegranate Month and NaNoWriMo). Birthdays today: Stephen Crane, Sippie Wallace, Yuko Shimizu, Lyle Lovett. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Peace, happiness and good luck on a November 1 where we're expecting a high of 78F: Hermès Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.

Reminder: on 11/8, there will be a community project, and I'll have it online by Monday. Update...on 11/8, for the 10th anniversary of our Friday projects, we're repeating the first one we did, way back in 2014... think of your favorite fragrance note (or one of them, if you can't narrow down), wear your favorite fragrance that features that note, and tell us about it. (Hat tip to happy888cat who noticed the anniversary! We are quite a few months late, but that's how things go around here.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the 3D POCHI Miffy Silicone Pouch ("The pouch opens like a traditional Japanese coin purse, known as "gamaguchi" and can be open by pulling the ears apart. The item has a flat bottom allowing it to sit on its own, which allows the pouch to be used as a pen holder for your desk or a toothbrush holder. The small size of the pouch will fit into most bags and can be used to carry small items in one place") is $18.95 at Kinokuniya USA. If you want the Miffy pouch without the "body", or a pen case, check out the Miffy selection at Jet Pens.

I went to bed after midnight. And my first words in the morning were something like “No, Kora… Later… let me sleep!” But I did remember to say “rabbit” before getting up.

Wearing vintage Joy for peace, luck and happiness.

I heard back from the third client. I passed their test! There might be some extra steps still before actually getting work. But anyway, I definitely passed 2 tests out of 3 and still have a chance with the third test. Not too shabby.

      Thanks, guys!
An update on the clients whose tests I passed. One confirmed the job, so my onboarding should begin soon. The other said that unfortunately another candidate was chosen for the project I applied for, but they still really like my profile and would like to onboard me anyway, so that I could get other projects. I am actually fine with that, because there might be a conflict between the particular projects of these two clients. So it may be for the best.

I’m feeling philosophical in SL Douce Amère because we hope for — and work for — good things in our lives and the world, but we have to take the bitter with the sweet.

My husband turns 65 next week (I have a few years to go yet) and on his birthday we’re taking a little trip to the city where we met 37+ years ago. We love to travel by train: in Canada it’s nothing to cheer about but it’s only half a day in each direction and it’ll be fun.

Have you seen the movie Kneecap? It’s about a Belfast rap band who perform in Irish language. It was quite cool, especially in terms of hearing Irish spoken.

I’m joining Glannys in wearing Joy today. I lucked into (see what I did there?) a purse refill spray of the parfum some years ago. It has resonance for me also as my great-aunt’s perfume; she was a tiny little grande dame who would let me, as a child, play with the contents of her handbag. There was never much in there as she was excessively tidy, but the gloves that were inevitably present were imbued with the scent of her perfume. Maybe that’s why I like Cuir de Lancôme so much, the perfume-plus-leather fragrance is a happy childhood memory.

I remembered my rabbits for the first time ever this morning. Probably had something to do with laying in bed before the sun came up wishing my internal clock would get back on track.

SOTD is Tauer’s Au Coeur du Desert because I caught myself craving this one when on vacay multiple times. So delicious! A very happy scent for me. 😃

Well, I just got off the phone with one of my agencies so I think I’m going to do a nursing contract over the holidays. I’m submitting to the hospital system I’ve worked at three winters in a row so hoping there hasn’t been vast changes there…Also, last week I got an offer from the campground I worked at over the summer in Utah which had a significant pay boost, so I’ve decided to go back there. There was a lot of drama there with “missing money” which is why I think they transferred me from my camp host position in a remote site to the office area in the main campground over the summer. Then at the end of the season, I found out a coworker found more than $300 in cash, turned it in to the manager, who strangely couldn’t remember ever receiving the money! To top that off, he also took the “slush fund” money and pocketed that, too. This was the reason I didn’t want to go back next summer. Hoping he’s not back in 2025! Then I will take another international trip somewhere. That’s the next 12 months all planned out. 😃 Very windy, but now you know all the gory details! 😉

Well, glad you have the next year planned. Good for you! I thought maybe you were done with the nursing world, but sounds like you will hang in there for another year. That’s good. We need people like you to advocate for the patients.

Advocating for patients these days means strikes, etc. ICU’s in many hospitals are tripling nurses with absolutely zero help. I don’t work ICU anymore because it’s impossible to take care of critically Ill patients with the current staffing in hospitals. My last contract (that I quit) was PCU and I had a patient that needed to be transferred to ICU but everyone was already tripled there. It’s just insane.

Well, I’d love to go back to France but I’m open to anything as long as it meets certain criteria. I don’t really have any interest in the far east so that narrows it down quite a bit. Budapest has been on my radar for a long time and there’s a 14 day immersive city trip next fall. I liked both the boarding kennel and the rv storage business I used and will probably use them again so I can leave from sky harbor which I really like. But, the tour group I used (road scholar) are always coming up with new trips so too early to decide anything for sure. It’s fun to plan and dream though…😃

I’m so glad you had a wonderful trip to France. I’d love to go back! Best vacation I ever had – a Viking River Cruise in France with extra time spent in Paris, Nice, and a side trip to Monte Carlo. I totally agree with what you said about the French people , even to how chic even the most casually dressed were, always wearing a scarf – and, yes, I bought several myself! But good to see you and T-Rex happily reunited!

Our guide for this trip also does river cruises so we were picking her brain incessantly! Im not a fan of open water cruises so I’m not sure I’d like a river cruise but it might be completely different. Sounds like you need to make plans to go visit again! 🇫🇷

It is completely different! Much smaller ship, quieter waters, elegant and classy in an informal way – no glitz like the ocean ones, no fancy ice sculptures, etc., you can sit anywhere you want for dinner, only a bit of low-key entertainment, all native guides that tell you more you’d ever find in a guidebook. And the food – extraordinary! IMHO, as someone who’s taken several American ocean cruises, there’s no comparison; I’d go with the river cruise any day.

            Oh,
good to know! Thank you! I’m not into all the fancy stuff and could care less about the captains table and getting “dressed” for dinner. Would you say river cruises offer more time on shore for exploration/learning opportunities than sea cruises? There is one in France I’ve been eyeing. Plus, no need to pack/unpack/pack back up, etc…

I’m currently in Delhi, India where everything smells of hot dust with a light dusting of dust, and as it happens I am wearing a very particular dry heat and dust friendly perfume, Strange Invisible Perfumes Prima Ballerina, with notes of lime, sage, rose and ambrette musk, plus few spritzes of perfume that helps me calm down and peace out, La Via del Profumo Holy Water, a mix of rose, sandalwood and frankincense. Prima Ballerina has a ballet related name but everything about it is a perfect mix of South West / desert calm notes, and I enjoyed wearing this perfume ever since I took it with me for a trip to New Mexico. Holy Water is good for any occasion and it’s my good luck and protective aura perfume.

I’m in Retrospect from Merit. I’ve been wearing this from my sample quite a bit and I really like it. Smells like a niche scent to me. Curious if anyone else has tried it?
Our fall weather has arrived and it’s a brisk 43 and sunny today. Missing our 82 degrees that we just had on Tuesday. My gradtowngirl texted me yesterday and it was snowing in minneapolis. Yikes. I’m not ready for that yet.
I had my job interview on Wednesday and I think it went well?🤷‍♀️ Now I just play the waiting game.

Morning! It’s 530 and the birds are singing, my favourite time of day. A peaceful way to ease into things. Cup of coffee, dog watching me from the bottom of the bed ( ready for action) and a scent of apple via a spray of Overture. I hope everyone has a decent weekend. I’m going to see Conclave ( Ralph Fiennes) this afternoon.

    Hi everyone!
My theme for this week was going to be Go Big or Go Home but the very warm weather changed that. Since it’s chilly and rainy today, I am going big for one day in Portrait of a Lady. It makes me feel confident and composed, which contributes to my peace of mind, and that’s what I want for this month and beyond.

Happy All Saints Day! I’m wearing Ummagumma today, as it fit the cloudy and finally cooler weather, and is also a scent that makes me feel peaceful / happy. It finally really does feel like winter, and I’m looking forward to the Christmas markets. Ockeghem Teen came back today and appears to have survived the week of all-day band practice, though it’s clear a lot of the more complicated German is still going over her head.

I’d forgotten how things really do close up here for holidays. Canada used to be a lot more like that, but now it’s more American in that stores and restaurants are open most holidays. It was dead quiet when we went out earlier today, although we were able to find one cafe that was open so we could work. (No holidays for us!)

Isn’t all German complicated? 🤓 I do have fond memories of going to a Christmas market once. We don’t have anything like them here, really. Nor the gingerbread made in Aachen, called printen. I still miss it.

I do remember when the shops all closed here for holidays, and Sundays, too. There were always a few restaurants open, but not many. It was just wrong when the big box stores started opening all hours, and everyone else followed suit. Call me old-fashioned, but…just wrong. D

I’ve always wanted to explore European Christmas markets, especially after seeing the usual Saturday and Wednesday markets in France. I love the whole concept. Never have I EVER seen such beautiful fruits and veggies! Everything looked like it came out of a Haute Cuisine magazine…I’m daring to declare the broccoli I saw to be the “most beautiful ever.” No lie, the markets rivaled the cathedrals when it comes to beautiful. 🤩

Props to the Ockeghem Teen for surviving all day band practice…I have no idea how she did it.😅 And of course you smell fabulous in Ummagumma! I’m headed to cool weather tomorrow and looking forward to wearing it, too.

Oh, yes, the weekly markets here are great, too, but the French ones with all the seafood are so much better. 🙂 I only wish we had ours more than 3 days a week (but hey, that’s far more than at home). It’s the only place you can get some things (kale, I’m looking at you); the grocery stores seem only to carry a very limited array of veggies, many of which are in cellophane bags (which I hate, but are easier to recycle here).

‘I am . . . at peace. I am. . . at peace. ‘ And so my morning yoga class began with our teacher leading us in her favorite mantra. A perfect start for today’s cp, as is Pacifica’s Tibetan Mountain Temple, my SOTD and also my favorite yoga fragrance. Unfortunately, my bottle is almost empty and since it’s been long d/c, prohibitively too expensive to replace.

Earlier this week we took one last fall trip to the driftless area, this time the NW corner of IL where it meets IA. And the many peaceful experiences we enjoyed in remote places – my very favorite Apple River Canyon State Park, with its babbling, burbling Apple River, high cliffs and deep canyons; an extremely remote bird sanctuary reached via miles of a twisting, curving gravel road up and down rollercoaster hills with vistas over peaceful farm country and fields put to sleep for the winter; just two of numerous lovely spots we visited – on glorious 🌞warm days full of autumn color that I’m keeping in my heart as long as I can! It couldn’t have been better!🍁🍂

Looking forward to a finger style 🎸 concert 🎶 at our local community college tonight to keep that feeling going, then relaxing the rest of the weekend. Wishing✌️to all! ☮️

I remembered to rabbit this morning, and have an extra set if anyone needs them. RIP Tina Bunny, Amy Sedaris’s rabbit.

I’m on the second leg of a 2-week work trip (I managed to squeeze a weekend of personal travel in the middle at least), so I’m limited to the handful of samples that I packed. Today is the new-to-me Frederico Lemon Basil Fizz. I get the lemon and fizz, but I get more lemongrass than I do basil. That’s ok tho because I think I prefer it that way.

Tea is Harney & Son’s Williamsburg Gingerbread, which has made my air B&B smell delicious.

Last night I tried Grapenuts ice cream, which I recently learned is a thing. I liked it. Tasted to me like a vanilla malted shake.

I guess I was in the same frame of mind as AnnE: I too wanted comforting, peaceful, and diaphanous for the CP. For me, that means Iris Torréfié. In spite of its quiet presence, it stays all day, and lingers on clothing in a wonderfully non-fusty way for days. I just love it. Off to read comments – I already glimpsed lots of lovely perfumes, comments and stories here today, for sure!

Robin, there is a typo about the flashback CP in the third paragraph. It should say 2014, not 2004.

Gorgeous weather is back for a couple of days here, with blue skies, puffy little white clouds, and temps in the mid 50’s to right around 60. Gonna enjoy it while it lasts!

SOTD = still hanging out in Burberry Brit for Women EdT. My bottle might be a Summer edition? In any case, this light amber scent is playing along very nicely with the more temperate weather here. Lucky pick for me! 🍀
