Tuesday scent of the day 10/22

Posted by Robin on 22 October 2024 114 Comments

We interrupt Teapot Tuesday to bring you Turkish Coffee. Today is International Stuttering Awareness Day and National Nut Day. Birthdays: Franz Liszt, Doris Lessing, Robert Capa, Catherine Deneuve and Jeff Goldblum. What fragrance are you wearing?

We're having Indian summer (the high is expected to be 81F) and so I'm in Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Summer Cologne. No points for me today.

Reminder: on 10/25, we're off to Turkey! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Turkey, or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to Turkey, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    An email from Imaginary Authors:

We’re just going to rip the band-aid off. We’re raising prices. But not by a lot! In an effort to be fully transparent, we’re letting you know now so you can take advantage of our current prices if you’d like.

You may have noticed that our shipping, which wasn’t always reliable in years past, is back on track with fast, dependable service. Or maybe you’ve had a positive interaction with our (human) customer service department. We’ve expanded from releasing one perfume per year to, this year, releasing four (along with a growing selection of other wonderful products). This is to say nothing of the crippling inflation that is affecting everything from the cost of glass, caps, and atomizers to shipping costs and salaries for our growing small business family.

As we evolve, our goal remains for our prices to remain well below our peers in the fine fragrance space, providing a non-pretentious and welcoming place that provides a high quality experience. In the coming months, we’re hoping to introduce a rewards program that delivers lower prices for loyal customers but, before that, we have a brand new website coming as well as a limited edition holiday collab that will blow your mind.

This growth wouldn’t be possible without your generous support of our little brand and for that we could not be more grateful. It’s been nearly two years since our last price increase and our hope is that this is the last time we’ll have to do this for a good long while!

The new pricing structure is as follows:

    The Complete Works: $120
    50ml bottle: $115
    14m bottle: $46
    8pc sample sets: $46
    2ml sample: $7
Candle, soap, body oil, and art print pricing remains the same.

And again, if you’d like to take advantage of our current prices, now would be the time to do that. The update will go into effect on Monday, October 28th.

I am in Sa Majeste la Rose for the CP points:

“The king is dead, long live the queen! Author Marcel Proust based his Madame de Guermantes on three society women of his day. Like Proust, I went in search of the lost land of childhood. On a quest for my rose, I charmed three royals, one Turkish, one Bulgarian and one Moroccan, for the perfect ending to my regal journey.”

This is such a big, stunning rose!

Those coffee cups are beautiful. I love tulips, and my favourite might be tulip tarda-small flowers, growing close to the ground. The blooms are about as big as my thumb nail and their smell reminds me of fresh jasmin-so potent, especially coming from such tiny flower!

My SOTD is Nuits d’Hadrien. I love its orange bottle, and it’s perfect for the warm weather we’re having this week.

Enabler pins for you and Mossyberry, I ordered a BUB of Encens! It’s arriving today.

And I will report back on if I can detect the reformulation. I had thought my original (glass rectangular bottle) version of it smelled a touch different from a 3-4 year old decant of the dark bottle; the original being more ambergris and a touch animalic. But when I tried them again side by side recently, the drydown was absolutely identical.

Wearing no 5 edp today. I think that something Serge Lutens will fit the bill for Friday. I thought my surgery consult was yesterday but turned out to be November 18th. I managed to score an appointment for this Thursday due to a cancelation. I want this gallbladder issue taken care of as soon as I can. If I get surgery in the next couple weeks, I won’t have to work most of the holiday season. I work retail and that might be a good thing for me.

Crazy warm here in the southern part of Michigan today, and dry too. We desperately need some rain. I’m wearing Ninfeo Mio today as an antidote to both the heat and the TF Black Orchid Voile de Fleur I sprayed last night. Either my nose or my skin chemistry (or both) has changed during my long hiatus from perfumes and though it eventually dried down to something quite nice, it took forever and in the meantime I was almost laughing at how, well, vulgar it smelled on me. Not crude, not dirty, but vulgar. Obviously I didn’t find it so when I bought it, so into perfume purgatory it goes to wait for a chance at redemption.

I’ll give it a few days and wear it again when I’m fully recovered from my Covid vaccination reaction, because I clearly liked it enough to have bought it back in the day. Maybe my nose is out of whack!

Maybe it wasn’t the right perfume pick for your weather? I have some perfumes that are very finicky about that. They just don’t smell right outside of “their” comfort zone.

Entirely possible, and maybe I was not in the right frame of mind for it. I’ve been wearing only the “comfort zone” scents in my collection for so long that I may need to gradually reacquaint myself with the ones with larger personalities. It will be like trying them all for the first time all over again—which could be fun.

    Hello all!

I’m getting the battery replaced in my car as I type. I barely got it to start yesterday, so I parked it on the street overnight. Sure enough, it was dead when I called the technician. Luckily it was still under warranty.

Thank you for all the test well wishes: I got an A. I was really surprised (which I know will not be a surprise for anyone following along. 😅)

I’m in MFK Aqua Vitae, which my Turkish friend once told me smelled like her uncles. I just love how this one sparkles. I probably won’t repurchase it though, should I ever make it through my bottle.

    Have a great day everyone!

Glad you got your battery replaced! I once had my battery go dead at the train station parking deck. What a nightmare! This is why it’s good to have AAA…I know some credit cards allow some of that work to be done as part of the perks but I’ve had AAA for so long I trust it.

I’ve had some really awkward battery issues, including during Hurricane Harvey when I’d gone into work halfway through the storm. Luckily it did for because that little car wouldn’t have made it back home; my manager gave me a ride home! I’m a long time AAA member too.

I’m in Tea for Two as we *are* having fall weather here in Seattle. Finally home from an amazing 10 day trip to the other Washington to see our son and his fiance and visit some friends. We had gorgeous weather and I think we saw almost every Smithsonian at some point (not really, but many of them). We also walked the National Mall and Arlington Cemetery, both of which we’ve done before, but I never get tired of it. We also spent a lot of time hiking and walking. I forget how green and beautiful the area is.

My son has developed a passion for baking and cooking and we spent some fun time in the kitchen together. The baking highlight from yesterday was Italian cream buns (they were delicious)– not our site, but here’s the recipe we used:

Hi all. I wore Jalapeño’s combo of Black Orchid and Angel yesterday and it was gorgeous! Made my household duties easier. I have traces on my sweatshirt I wore yesterday and today, so I put on Kiehls Musk to smooth things out, and that also smells good.
It’s false fall here too, very warm and breezy. I can’t remember the last time it rained. My husband saw a long range weather forecast that says November here will be more of the same, warmer than usual and still dry. Meanwhile, like ltsg, I’m collecting warm clothes for cold weather. Maybe it will be warm and dry all winter!

My wearing was an inadvertent layering of Black Orchid and Angel. The far drydown of Black Orchid on a shirt mixed with a spray or two of Angel EdP.

I was shocked at how good it smelled.

The complete loss of my sense of smell is the most troubling part of it. Last time it happened, I was in despair; I’m less concerned this time, since I expect it to return.🤞

I’ve always known how related the two senses are, but I’ve learned that when your sense of smell is truly gone, all nuance is gone from your sense of taste. You detect sweet, sour, bitter, and salty – that’s it. My morning coffee is merely hot bitter water. Chicken soup is warm salty water. Chocolate is sweet, but you get no sensation of creaminess or layers of flavor. Disconcerting and unappetizing.

The only bright spot, I suppose, is that I don’t get an olfactory alert that the cat has used the litter box.😬

Akro Bake today, lemony and cheerful. Clear skies today – but that could change at any second lol. Definitely a chill to the air, no more short sleeves for awhile.

Commando today since I had to go into the office unexpectedly and forgot to spray before I left. But it let me full appreciate my new Neroli & Tonka hand soap. I’m very impressed with whomever makes the scents for Baylis & Harding.

Joining others who are wearing rose perfume in FM Une Rose, even though I don’t know if it’s Turkish rose..
But I did have Turkish coffee today so I’ll take points for that! 😄
After work I sprayed some L’ombre dans l’Eau from my fastly evaporating mini bottle and it turns out it layers quite nicely with Une Rose. Yum! 🌹

I’m still in remnants of yesterday’s scent on my sweatshirt. I saw a layering combo on Instagram and decided to try it: L’heure bleue & Cuir Beluga. Don’t shoot, I know it sounds sacrilegious! But I wear my l’HB very infrequently so I thought I needed a push to reach for it. The combo was shockingly very strong and heady. I think my l’HB has grown in strength over the years.

That sounds like a really strong combo…is it good though?

I think it’s a great idea to find new ways to wear fragrances we don’t reach for as much. I don’t have Cuir Beluga in my collection but I’m going to sniff around for something similar and try it with l’HB.

My newer (10-15 years) bottle doesn’t hold a candle to my little bit of vintage perfume. The newer version is too powdery for me so this could bring it new life!

It got up to 78-ish here today. Depends on what weather app or station I check, LOL. Perfect day for a mid afternoon walk.

So my latest perfume parcel arrived a day earlier than expected from FragranceNet. I’m wearing one of the perfumes I purchased.

SOTD = Prada Infusion d’Oeillet EdP. Enjoying the woody notes in it. Haven’t noticed any patchouli in it just yet. I get a little bit of carnation in it. Thankfully this is not sweet on me at all.

Was this a blind buy? What else did you purchase?

Both perfumes were blind buys. The other perfume I got was a travel spray of Happy Chopard Felicia Roses.

Mine took over a week, and the box was rather crunched up when it arrived. But all the contents were fine.

I do wonder what happens to the packages when it looks like someone played kickball with them.

I discovered I have a good number of perfumes inspired by places in Turkey, Turkish coffee, or Turkish delight. To go along with today’s photo I’m in Finjan by Ayala Moriel. It’s based on Turkish coffee, but it’s a very subtle perfume, unlike most other coffee scents.

And Robin, I’m not sure if anyone else said this already because I haven’t read comments yet, but you actually did participate in the cp today! While researching I found that cologne is part of Turkish culture and has been since the Ottoman empire. I found a Bois de Jasmin article on it, and there’s a section on it in the Wikipedia page for cologne. 🤓

I’ve been wearing L’Eau d’Ambre for the last couple of days, and it’s really hitting the spot. Light enough for this warm weather, but the right scent family for fall.
I was going to get in my comment for the weekend poll just under the wire yesterday but failed. Wrote it up (a long one, too,) pressed ‘post,’ and I got the “you must be logged in to reply.” Argh, lost it all! 🤷🏼‍♀️

    Finally sitting down to post.
My sotd is No.19 just because it called my name.
I picked up my dogs flea and tick medicine from the vet yesterday and he has gained a lot of weight. ( the dog not the vet) I need to cut back on his treats.

Good pick for a busy day!

I am keeping an eye on Teflon kitty’s treat intake right now. Making sure she doesn’t overdo it. So far the vet techs are saying she’s fine.

R., my sister’s Havanese is … gasp … 15 POUNDS! He’s a mini and should be in the 9-10 pound range. Guess who is now on a diet?
