Wednesday scent of the day 10/16

Posted by Robin on 16 October 2024 130 Comments

It’s Hump Day plus World Food Day. Birthdays: Lucy Stanton, Oscar Wilde, Eugene O'Neill, Günter Grass. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Cuir d'Ange for Winter Sky, although to me it fits the color (close enough, anyway) but not the description ("a cooling blue hue that takes our breath away").

Reminder: on 10/18, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Tomato Cream, a nourishing toasty hue that warms the soul." or "Italian Plum, a deep dark purple full of magical energies.")

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the 26" square I Like Flowers 70 silk scarf in azur / corail / vert amande is $415 at Hermès.

Pleine Lune tea this morning and no volunteering or running around. Planning on crocheting and sipping tea all day..

I am almost finished with Intermezzo and liking Rooney’s new book.

Scrolling and shopping on RL App I find it interesting they have the photos of Safari & Lauren on their site, which wasn’t always the case. I wonder if they are considering bringing these beauties back. It was his birthday the other day..love Ralph’s style. Coffee not so much!

Lauren from what I read is still around but its a watered down version. It would be nice if they brought them both back to their original formulations.

This is what I found on fragrantica-

“Apr 12, 2018 — Lauren was discontinued some time ago and then brought back, although in a thin and bitter approximation of the original formulation”

I wonder if the new brought back version is discontinued now too because no one liked it?

    Hello.
    Sotd is Shalimar MJ.
I am packing for my flight to Bangkok tomorrow! Spending a little over a week with my bestie, we are sure to have a lot of fun. I am leaving almost half my suitcase empty so I can do some damage there.

Excellent planning. On our last trip to Scotland (2nd time’s the charm as on the first trip I broke my arm and shoulder on the first day!) we 1. Shipped some things home, 2. Had to buy a third suitcase to travel home with! Embarrassing!!! It was 90% gifts, but golly.

It’s a beautiful fall day here, and I’m in Goutal’s Myrre Ardent-body cream and EDP. I love this scent and it stays close to the skin. Hope everyone’s day is calm and peaceful-at least for a few minutes 🙂

I am in Beyond Love for Golden Palm. The juice is amber colored, but the scent itself is golden-greenish to my nose. Plus, it has coconut note, and coconuts grow on palms.
    Happy Wednesday!

    Hello all!

I’m not one for Pantone color pallettes personally, but since I’m in Nahéma today, I think it must fit the orange on the top right.

Taking a test in a few hours for physical chemistry. This test is supposed to be the easiest of the semester so fingers crossed! This professor said she loves the smell of roses, which is why I picked Nahéma today.

    Have a great day everyone.

i am sure Ambre de Merveilles is a good fit for the warmish brown color.
i needed something soothing, as i got my shingles shot yesterday and have aching bones and head and a bump on the arm big as a chicken egg. hopefully it will be better tomorrow …

I have a new writing project weighing on me unlike any I have done before. So, naturally I am strengthening my resolve by reading NST in bed. 💜

Yesterday Allo’s Tryst (wow, autocorrect does not like that word!) sample arrived. I love it! Took me several hours, but the affection grew. 😂 Sounds like it was meh for several NST folks however.

Good luck ! Sounds awful. The work, not the perfume. I had a big project ( just finished) and I actually set a timer for “ one hour”. Knowing I “ only” had to work for one hour somehow made it much easier, and the time flew by. After the hour I had thirty minutes off, then set the timer for one hour again. Repeated six times. Worked a treat, for ten days.

Well, considering I am now at my desk and back reading NST, I think I better try your idea. This isn’t an awful writing gig, just I have no idea what I am doing. I’ll make myself study the problem for one hour. I like that! But, maybe I’ll start in a few minutes. Or so. Very soon.

After seeing some dreadful cases of shingles, feeling achy and tired for a day after each vaccine dose seemed a good trade for the actual disease.

Shingles vaccine isn’t “one and done” but 2 doses is better than the COVID booster which it seems will be a yearly thing.

Is Habit Rouge more Scarlet Smile or Red Orange? I’d lean towards the former.

At any rate, I wore it today after a long time and, sad to say, I’ve fallen out of love with the fragrance. The same goes for other Guerlain fragrances which I rarely wear now.

But in more cheery news, I found another silk scarf recently at the same place I had found the Hermès one back in August. This one is a Must de Cartier scarf, the silk still crisp, in a red/orange/green colourway.

Wearing Kelly Caleche and matching with white swan, which is full of grace ( or something similar). I’m listening to the dawn chorus, no swans, and drinking coffee in bed . Bat the dog is snuggled under the covers sighing contentedly. We had a frost the other day, certainly one of the latest I can recall so fingers crossed today will be a bit warmer once the sun rises.

Speaking of red, last year, Perfumer H and the Choosing Keeping, a stationery store in London, did a set of scented items including a notebook, ink, pencils, and maybe incense in a glorious holiday scent and deep red color.

When I looked that up last year, I was transfixed by their unusual and often eerie holiday ornaments, including vintage ornaments. I didn’t order any then because I was hoping they’d be on sale after the holidays, but NO! They simply disappeared from the website.

I think they may be back or on preview now, but before I got to them, I came across this Halloween cat, which I NEED. 😻

    https://www.instagram.com/choosingkeeping/p/DBHCYpkMtzV/?hl=en&img_index=1

Are there any other fans of Perfumer H or vintage/weird ornaments here today?

      Here’s the ornaments page:

      https://choosingkeeping.com/collections/christmas-2024

If ordering from the US, we don’t have to pay customs or VAT up to $800, but IIRC, the shipping fee is quite stiff unless one orders over a certain amount, so it would be costly to order just a crepe cat, and worth combining orders with friends, for example.

I luuuurv weird and wonderful ornaments. I have at least two of Prince. But I digress. A place to check out ornaments at a lower price point in the US is World Market. I usually go there for stocking stuffers (all featuring marzipan) and a few new ornaments. for the kids (okay, now 21 and 23 respectively!) The passport and the purrito look like fun: https://www.worldmarket.com/c/holidays/christmas-shop/christmas-ornaments/?ab=christmas%20shop::d:1:/c/holidays/christmas-shop/christmas-ornaments/:

Yes, I too am dying to try Saddle!

They are now doing a few sample sets but don’t ship those to the US, the last I looked, although they will ship samples if you order a bottle. The Shop France lady sometimes goes to London. If she does, I’ll see if she can get sample and sample sets for me. One possibility to keep in mind.

That is a good idea, but I’ll admit, I largely buy from her blind. That gets me a few samples, which has allowed me to know what appeals from the house style (the greens and fougères are not for me, but her florals and spices sing). I’m thinking to get Saddle for the split meet coming up if there’s enough interest.

I have also ordered unsniffed, but the thing about Perfumer H is that the ones I don’t like, I really can’t stand. I’ve managed to pass those on, though.

Wearing CSP Vanille Abricot and not matching any of the Pantone colors. Still no fall weather here but it did get a bit cool last night.

I had a lady come up to my camper and “Yoo-hoo” me yesterday, so I went to the door and she says, “Why are you parked here? You’re blocking my view?” She kept on jabbering so I just stood in my doorway, silent. Then she realized I was in a campsite and not parked to deliberately obstruct her view. It was almost dark and she had just returned from gallivanting. There was maybe 1 hour of light left then there are NO views because it’s pitch black. She finally talked (complained) herself out and finally walked back to her own campsite. The entire time I just looked at her and didn’t utter a word (out loud anyway!🤣) Really, people are idiots. Not all of them, but many of them. On a lighter note, I finally picked up my candle yesterday and it’s a delight in both smell and looks.
Here it is lit up. Just gorgeous! ❤️

Starting to feel a bit better today but still keeping my doctor’s appointment. Wearing vintage BaV today since I haven’t worn it in forever. Forgot how much I adore it.

    Love that scarf.

I think I will go with Raw Umber to go with my scent today though I don’t know that it really matches. I am in Chanel Coco Noir. Love this scent in the cool weather.

PSA-I will just mention this today again for those that live in the US. Zara Romance d’Iris is back in stock according to website. I think it was Gail that was looking for it and she lives in Canada, but just letting people in the states to know too. I posted it last night fairly late.

LOL. I have been too, but I knew someone was interested in that particular one. Gail was, but it sounds like it is still out of stock in Canada.

Thank you for the birthday wishes yesterday, and the sympathy for my toe 🙂 .
I strongly associate perfume with colour, and mostly with the colour of what I’m wearing. Today I’m wearing a dress in black, yellow and green, so Aventurine is the closest match and I’ve picked Scherrer.

I love that scarf, I’ve never been brave enough to acquire a Hermès scarf, but they can be incredibly lovely.

SOTD is Songe d’un Bois d’Eté by Guerlain, which I think has elements of both Golden Palm and Tomato Cream.

I was mulling over the CP and thinking of the association between colors and perfumes. I definitely do not have synesthesia but I do have sometimes strong associations. It seems some of them are more with the color of the bottle than anything else (Delina is definitely a pink perfume, duh!), whereas some have to do with a particular note in the perfume (Azemour Les Orangers is orange of course whereas its bottle and really the idea of it might seem green). Others are a different association (woody scents are brown, ambers are golden, ylang ylang is kind of light yellow). I looked at the Pantone colors and was very taken with the shimmery gray one (Moonlight?) and pondered “What perfume could possibly be gray?” and BAM! it suddenly hit me, the perfume I have on RIGHT NOW is GRAY! What, you may ask, is this scent? Myrrhe 55 which I’ve been wearing pretty constantly since I acquired my bottle. I think a gray perfume like a gray color should be something a bit subdued and quiet, and in this case, because the perfume is a shape-shifter, it’s also well-matched to a shimmery gray color. So there! (When I had my kitchen repainted a year and a half ago I went through about a zillion paper paint samples of shades of white, some with gray or silver or blue accents, and chose a very light gray-inclined one, which may also be this moonlight color. I’m very happy with it. It’s a white, for sure, but not a bit creamy or green or blue, just shimmery gray-white.)

I definitely do not have proper synesthesia, and I suspect I can match a perfume to more than one color, but I can look at the colors and think of perfumes? And I am doing the gray tomorrow 🙂

In other news, as many of you know I like Starbucks but don’t go as often anymore because it is an extra “trip”. I can walk there and I have on occasion. I get the email offers where you get x points for buying y, etc. I have never taken advantage of this previously but there was an offer for half off a drink. I went to the Starbucks to place an order and eh, it did not take half off! The cashiers kept insisting that the store does not participate and I asked that they call the manager / owner. So, in order to take advantage of it, I have to PLACE A MOBILE ORDER! What the – – – – ? I was standing right there! I ended up following the directions and got the half off. Seriously, what advantage does a mobile order have over an in-person order?

Anyway, nothing to do with what I just recounted but there is controversy over the condiments bar at Starbucks. They went poof during the pandemic and has not returned except the store at Target where the sugar packets showed up one day and disappeared again. Here’s the Wall Street Journal about it. There may be a pay wall.

      Gorgeous bottle!

There is a Starbucks within walking distance of me, but it would mean crossing a busy frontage road to get there. Probably a lot safer to drive there!

My theory is that if you use the mobile app eventually they won’t have to pay people to take an order. Also it probably tracks you better for ads and marketing.

I have to tell you my latest Starbucks story. Unfortunately, it is close to my house and I sometimes go twice a day. Anyway, I go there so often that I know about every employee’s life stories. The other day I was there and an old employee was there with her four year old son. They went to the restroom and I left the building. They then came running out and “Julie” said that her son “Michael” wanted a hug. They have become like family🙄
