Tuesday scent of the day 10/15

Posted by Robin on 15 October 2024 132 Comments

It's Tuesday, Global Handwashing Day and World Students’ Day. Birthdays: Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and Sir Pelham Grenville Wodehouse. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Marni, which fits the description for Pantone Tomato Cream; colorwise it is somewhere in between Tomato Cream and Red Orange. Tea at the moment is a strong cup of mixed black tea samples.

Reminder: on 10/18, wear a fragrance that evokes one of Pantone's picks for the Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 NYFW Color Palette. (If you like, click through to the article and pick your fragrance based on the color name or description rather than the color itself, as in "Tomato Cream, a nourishing toasty hue that warms the soul." or "Italian Plum, a deep dark purple full of magical energies.")

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Anemone Milk teapot in bone china, by Marni for Serax ("Reawaken your tablescape with the playful energy and quirky botanical-inspired motif of the Serax Marni Anemone Milk teapot"), is $148 at Bloomingdales.

    Hello.
Sotd is Oud Ispahan. Even did a spritz on both my forearms so I can catch a waft every time I do something.
I watched Demi Moore’s The Substance. Not bad, in fact it’s quite good. Perfect for Halloween! It’s a full blown body horror film so if you are not a fan of the genre, do stay away. I don’t find it that disgusting, but then again, I have a pretty high tolerance for gross stuff.

I thought The Substance was great! But I’m a horror fan and agree it’s definitely not for everyone.

To clarify it’s like placing intense next to 💄 a rose scented lipstick. I have never smelled lipstick rose perfume

          • tulipani says:
            15 October 2024 at 7:11 pm

It is not too sweet, but it is a very abstract rose. To me, it’s more along the lines of Nahema, not that they smell alike but in that they’re both abstract roses. With incense, salty ambergris, and aldehydes. I hope this helps! It’s a tough one to describe.

          • Lovestosmellgood says:
            15 October 2024 at 7:47 pm

            Yes, Nahema’s sister.

I’m in Azemour les Oranges, which I’m pairing with the plaid of the venerable flannel shirt I’m wearing this morning. It’s my favorite shirt and it must be close to 50 years old now (its tag says it was made in the Kingdom of Siam!). It came from one of those very early Banana Republic catalogs with drawings similar to the Pantone article — it’s basically a plaid of Tomato Cream, Fern, and a lighter version of Buckthorn Brown. I love this shirt and plan to keep repairing it for another, er, let’s say “many” years.

I’m wearing Vanilla Flash today since it was the first thing my eyes landed on when I opened the traveling perfume box, and I’m in a bit of a rush.

I’ve got a crap ton of stuff to get done today and I somehow managed to tweak my back yesterday. Also trying to figure out why my solar wasn’t charging as usual and was back and forth all day yesterday with the installer via text but it does seem to be working as per usual now. If all else fails flip the the fuse switch!

The good news is that I was in Target yesterday and found something I’ve been lemming a while. It was on sale and the price was fairly good so I nabbed it and when I got to the register it rang up even LESS! Regular $79 and rang up $37!! Score!

Found my sprit child on IG yesterday. 😃

Deva, I read about your bagel incident, and the same thing happened to me when I was a kid! I was sawing back and forth on a stale bagel with a serrated knife until it slipped. I ended up with four stitches in my left index finger, and I boycotted bagels for a year and a half afterwards (that felt like a really long time back then). I’m sorry your hospital visit cost so much!! That’s terrible. I hope your hand does better in time for your trip.

On my lunch break I went to Sephora and tested Hermes Caleche, both edt and edp. They smell very similar to me, a bit old fashioned, classy and soapy (in a good way). Interestingly, EDT is holding better on my skin, so if I were to buy a bottle I think I would choose that one. But currently there are other perfumes higher on my wish list 🙃

PSA: If you are in the DC area, there is a small ylang-ylang tree blooming in the part of the Enid Haupt Garden tucked away between the National Museum of Asian Art (former Sackler Gallery) and the Freer Gallery of Art.

It looks like a piece of Eden, but it’s basically just a broad sidewalk passageway where the Smithsonian places huge potted plants from their greenhouses every summer. They’ll soon be returning them to the greenhouses for the winter, so this is basically last call.

They tend to feature small trees and shrubs with unusual and often scented flowers. There was also a gardenia tree, but it’s no longer blooming now. There are frangipani plants with different sizes and colors of blossoms, and some exotic hibiscuses in amazing colors. There was another fragrant plant lacking labels; I think it’s also a perfume ingredient but I can’t remember which one.

Worth a trip downtown if you’re in the area.

I also recommend the Mary Livingston Garden, a serpentine passageway between the Hirshhorn and Arts and Industries. Part of it has raised flower beds so that you can really get up close with its flowering plants.

Also, fragrancenet.com has a lot of Hermes fragrances on sale now, including sets of mini colognes. It says sale price with coupon, but I didn’t actually need to sign in to an account or have a coupon to get the special price. (Maybe because they already have my email on file?)

That’s an excellent caveat, and I have not checked prices on the minis.

I found this sale when I was searching for Galop, and the price of that one on fragrancenet.com is the best I’ve found.

Note, however, that I don’t have department store cards or save points as you do, so you might get a better deal that way.

I did finally succumb to the Nordies Club, after decades. Last summer, the most wonderful sales associate spent more than an hour helping me when my debit card wasn’t working and subsequently offered to let me know when winter clothes of the brand I liked came in. A few weeks later, she texted me. She set aside things for me that worked out so well, including some I would never have tried on my own. So I let her convince me to join. I don’t think I shop there often enough to do anything with points, but I will check in with this lady again for summer clothes.

Good morning from our never-quite-over winter weather. It was my birthday two day ago, and I had a nice day until I was heading to bed and kicked the kitchen door in the dark. I’m now hobbling about with a broken toe 🙁 .

Ouch! A broken toe is rather painful, and not a whole lot can be done about it. Hope it heals quickly.

Belated birthday wishes to you! 🎂🎊

    sotd = Clinique Wrappings

because sometimes I wake up in the morning and want to smell something oddly beautiful. Also it’s a cool, gray day here, so Wrappings feels seasonally appropriate.

What ho! Bertie Wooster would most undeniably approve of that gorgeous teapot. Jeeves might raise an eyebrow. 😅

Ah, the “match with a colour” CPs leave me puzzled, as I evidently have the opposite of synesthesia. Also don’t do well with “match with a book” CPs. In the Rich Lady, swanning about the office, scent Amouage Dia.

In order to participate in this CP I have resorted to choosing scents that A) I want to wear anyway and B) have some part of their packaging that relates to the Pantone colors. I was an abject failure at choosing perfumes that make me see a color in my mind’s eye so you’re not alone. Apparently my mind’s eye is as myopic as my actual eyes and as colorblind as my son’s.

I just got a fleece jacket from Patagonia that is similar in color to Pantone’s Tomato Cream, except they call it Burnished Red. I love the color for fall. I however have no idea what perfume of mine to match it to though. I have a few ideas, but I don’t feel like wearing them today.

That sounds nice, I like that color. It is odd to me that none of the colors are brown, which is what I’m seeing in the stores.

I saw at the bottom of the Pantone page there’s a section of New Classics and there’s a few more colors and two of them are variations of brown. I’m seeing a lot of brown shades for clothing too.

Yes, but those aren’t usually the “in colors” so I ignore them. I’d say brown is currently the in thing from what I am seeing.

I’m wearing MDCI La Ravissante and matching it with Scarlet Smile, though it should be a bit darker red, because what stands out in this fragrance is the pomegranate note. The association with red is obvious, and I do think that red would be good for fall. Nothing much else going on here, except our record of 99 yesterday will, we hope, be the last of them for this year as a cold front is (finally) promised to come through tonight!

SOTD = Scents of Wood Plum in Cognac

Seriously good! 🤎 Somehow, it seems like I enjoy this fragrance more and more each time I wear it! I did not include this on the description on IG but there is a wonderful tobacco note although this was not included in fragrantica.

In other news … my friend and I and her common-law husband went to see a Mason Gross wind ensemble concert at Rutgers this past Sunday. The date worked for me, plus, I’ve previously heard a version of the ensemble. Anyway, to my surprise, there was a film shown for the second half — Frankenstein from the 1925 or thereabouts. Neat! Afterwards, we were going to a sushi place in New Brunswick but there was a wait. I remembered going to a Vietnamese restaurant years ago for lunch during jury duty and so we ended up going there instead. Yummy 😋!

More sun and mild weather here. But there was definitely a touch of fall in the air when I went outside around lunchtime. Lots of leaves are turning yellow in my area now.

SOTD = YSL Belle d’Opium EdP. The bottle is gorgeous, while the scent itself is a likeable fruitchouli on the sweet side. It would shine in cooler weather than what I am experiencing right now, I think.

SotD is PMC Essence de Patchouli. Not to be confused with Patchouli Nosy Be. 😁 It’s patchouli lite, prettified with Iris and rose. Next to try is the other one!
That’s a pretty teapot, Robin, but I would be afraid to use it, lol! My tea of the afternoon was an apricot-flavored black tea from Arbor Teas. Although it smelled strong from the packet, the taste was subtle, and the tea was on the lighter side. I like this small company. All of their teas are organic, and they sell generous samples. 😉

My furnace is officially on for the next 7 months. We had a freeze warning this morning and all my tires lost enough air that the tire light came on. I priced new tires and wow!
My sotd is Lolita lempeka just because.
