Friday scent of the day 10/4

Posted by Robin on 4 October 2024 182 Comments

Happy Friday and happy National Cinnamon Roll Day! (Also, National Taco Day and World Animal Day). Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a cinnamon note.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm taking (huge) cinnamon points in Serge Lutens Rousse.

Reminder: 10/11 will be FOMO Friday...wear the perfume you bought because everyone else was buying it and you didn't want to miss all the fun. Suggested by SarahN.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

For the CP, Serge Noir. I picked it with Fragrantica’s help, and will challenge my nose today to find cinnamon. In past wearings, I’ve found it to be a warm wood scent with vague sweetness. I don’t get any of the extremes that many reviewers seem to, so maybe I will find that today as well? Beautiful clear fall weather starting this week. Sadly, time to start planning to bring in the big tropical patio pots. I do it in stages, beginning with ridding them of spiders and leaf detritus. I also am winding up a smaller painting and caulking project that I realized I should do because I have all the stuff still out and fresh, and the weather is so perfect. Mr. Mossy even joined in and fixed the storm door which never in 30 years quiiiite closed evenly. HA! Deferred maintenance is the game we play.

I’ve only has samples of your SOTD, but I really enjoy wearing it. I’ll have to concentrate and see if I can smell the cinnamon. I’ll be working on plants and stuff next weekend-getting ready for a work project that’s due next Friday.

Joining you in plant rescue. We already brought in all our houseplants that summer outdoors (they can be half-dead when we put them out in mid-June and are incredibly lush when we bring them inside in the fall!). I also bring in some hanging baskets of annuals that have overwintered successfully for several years, saves me some money each year!)

    Hello and tgif!
    Sotd is Zoologist Rabbit.

    How I feel about it:
This bunny has a snacking problem and needs an intervention!
It starts off with bright orange CHEETOS – salty, greasy and immensely cheesy cheetos, and it lasts for at least 3-5 minutes with nothing else going on.
Then it fades away and the next snack is lemon cream filled flaky sea salt butter shortbread sandwiches. The butter is so heavy you can almost taste the grease.
If you look hard enough underneath all the snacks and wrappers, you will just barely manage to spot some dried hay. Not too far away is a McD’s apple pie waving hello.
Definitely not a fresh scent. No crisp apples, crunchy carrots, sparkly bergamot nor fresh greens. This bunny is bulking up on empty calories only. Everybody say “chubby bunny”! 😀

Wow, my take on Rabbit is completely different. I get dry grass and herbal notes, nice but nothing I need. Always amazes me how we all can find such different smells in the same perfume!

      LOL 🤣!

I believe there is an article in either The NY Times or Wall Street Journal about Cheeto dust making mice 🐁 skin transparent? Of course the next question is if there is the same effect on human skin which is 10x thicker than mice skin. That’s the next experiment.

Since you already have the bottle, I think you should get a refill if available. My bottle is still fullish but I would not hesitate to replace it were it to get down to < 15% full.

I wore cinnamon all week — SL Rousse and Feminité du Bois, Halston Catalyst for Men, Demeter Egg Nog — but today I’m in the cinnamoniest thing I can even imagine, CSP Vanille Cannelle. Unlike with a lot of other CSPs I really have to be in the mood for this one: it’s pretty aggressive. But on a gorgeous fall day like today it’s perfect — heaping spoonfuls of cinnamon, a wisp of wood smoke, and all that gorgeous vanilla at the end.

Happy Cinnamon Roll Day! Glad Kanebullens Dag!

I still remember those cinnamon rolls I ate in Sweden with fondness and longing. 😝

Today I am wearing Trayee, and frankly cardamom is much more prominent than cinnamon here. But it feels right on a Friday afternoon after a hard week. I plan to sleep a lot during the weekend. And crochet. And cuddle with my cat.

Wearing Angel’s Share again for its delicious-ness.

Headed to the North Rim looking for a cool breeze today. Stayed just north of Kanab last night at a small family RV Park because I needed A/C (90F here yesterday!) apple trees all over, as well as a horse and a mule. The very senior guy who checked me in said that his father planted this apple orchard before he (the very senior guy) was born and he grew up growing apples. Now it’s too warm and he said he’s glad he got out of the apple business because he’d be completely broke. He said the first frost used to come second or third week in September but it gets later every year. Nothing even close to a frost yet this year. Sad. But he rolled with the punches and now has this small RV park that’s packed full just about every night. A super nice chatty man with bad eyes, poor hearing, but he just puts on his cowboy hat and keeps trucking along with a smile on his face. 🤠

I’m here (north rim) and it’s lovely with very few people, although I’m way off in the boonies off a forest service road, tucked into the pines. I hope you get back to Zion, but best do it in late fall/early winter because it’s 93F there today. I’m currently at about 7500ft and it’s 79F in the shade…😅

I’m in vintage Obsession. This doesn’t list cinnamon as a note, just “spices” but I’m guessing it’s in there somewhere so claiming points.
It’s another gorgeous day and I have errands to run.
Today is my dads birthday, and he is 80 years young. Seems like just yesterday we were throwing his surprise 75th, but so much has happened since then that it also feels like forever ago. Time is like that. Monday is my son’s birthday and I honored my dad by giving my son his name as a middle name.☺️

Was it you who had the problem with stamps.com? I had a problem with PayPal a while back when they switched over to ShipStation. For whatever irrational reason, I thought I had to subscribe to it AND pay for the postage. I held out for so long that I did not have the ability to mail packages. In any case, besides being corrected ?I read carefully this time), I had to reinstall PayPal and all was well.

    Hello everyone!
I am in Diptyque Eau Capitale for the CP points. The only proof that it has cinnamon is Jessica’s review here on NST, because I don’t detect it 😆 Anyway, it was the only thing I could find for the CP, and I am enjoying the rose very much.

I was feeling a bit under the weather for weeks, and yesterday my sister suggested I did a test for IgM antibodies for covid. So I did and it turned out they were very high, so I must have had it recently. Luckily this time I didn’t lose my sense of smell! I plan to rest a lot this weekend and hopefully the fatigue will go away soon…

I am wearing PG Un Crime Exotique and I smell like some kind of pastry. Not sugary, but loaded with spices. I am packing for Japan and making a list of stuff I want to buy there; probably not perfume but nail polish and sunscreen for sure. The extended weather forecast is for showers and temps in the mid to high 70s, so I am thinking it will be muggy. That’s my least favorite weather, when you are all hot and sticky outside. I am looking forward to seeing my sister, we are meeting in Tokyo.

Ambre Narguile for the cp today. I have one of those nice Hermes manufacturers samples (4 mls, I think?). Although I think it is beautiful, I rarely wear it. It’s often somehow overwhelming to me, but working well on this cool rainy morning.

Still fighting my respiratory virus. The nights are the worst — coughing and stuffed up so it’s hard to sleep. But I managed some yoga this morning so I’m feeling more positive.

We just talked to a friend of ours in Tennessee. They are fine, but right next door to a small town that was basically destroyed due to flooding. My heart goes out to all those struggling to pick up the pieces.

Well, we had the wettest weather in over one hundred years and now the city is cut off by road…which isn’t that bad really. Once the surface water drains, and the slips are cleared the highways will open. Part of our city is very low lying and that’s been badly impacted by flooding, lots of houses affected. So, wet. It will start to clear up today. It will be nice to be out of the thick mist that has hidden everything beyond the garden. CP gold star for Dolce Vita, cinnamon note and a burst of light. Might go to a movie later though it’s school holidays which means that 80% of films are animation/ kids which leaves only The Substance or The Joker (2), i.e. grim or grimmer.

I didn’t find anything in my collection other than Rousse that fits the CP and I already wore that so I just went with what I wanted today, which was Indigo Smoke, a favorite. Partly I”m not in the mood for cinnamon because fall is still eluding us here as we’ve got to get through a while yet in the 90’s in our forecast. I do really miss the existence of Autumn as a distinct season like it was in my childhood, complete with crisp days and the smell of fallen leaves everywhere, and bonfires with wienie roasts and toasted marshmallows.

I have access to three perfumes only while I’m on holidays or I would have worn Diptyque l’Eau or Molto Missoni both heavy on cinnamon instead I sprayed Shalimar Millésime Tonka, I had forgotten how extraordinarily diffusive it is. I like it even more than MVP and it’s saying a lot, wearing it in the warmth of fall in Provence is a treat.

I started with a sample of Nicolai Eau d’Ete because it is a bit warm here today and I wanted a summary cinnamon, but I wasn’t getting much spice from it. Once it faded I moved on to CdG’s Cinnamon Sherbet, which somehow manages to be both cinnamon-spicy and cold. CdG has been quiet the past few years, before that it seems like they had at least one new release every year.

Tea today is Fortnum & Mason’s Afternoon Tea.

The only thing I have to wear for the CP is Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit and the description says, “spiced with ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon”.
I’m surprised I don’t have more perfume with cinnamon since I love spice fragrances, but maybe it is because I get the fragrance in other ways. In the fall my home fragrances from candles and wax melts are loaded with it. I drink decaf and herbal teas in the evening that usually have it in the autumn and winter. Plus, I get the fragrance every morning also from the Morton & Bassett Organic Cinnamon I sprinkle on my oatmeal.

Happy Cinnamon Roll Day! I didn’t have to think a minute to choose my SOTD for today’s cinnamon cp as woods and spice are my favorite notes for fall. Sweet yet sexy, spicy yet warm and comforting like a hug, my favorite cinnamon roll scent for today is the original Givenchy Organza Indecence – and it’s one of my favorite scents ever. I’ve loved everything about this one (cinnamon, vanilla, woods, patchouli, amber) from the beginning and never tire of it each fall. Luckily I have several bottles as this is one I never tire of!❤️

Our weather here has cooled off somewhat but is still warm and trees and shrubs are still very green, feels more like early-mid September than the first week in October. 🤞it holds out for next week as we’ll be heading up madtowngirl’s way for a brief camping trip to New Glarus State Park hoping to catch some fall bird migration; it’s supposed to be a good place. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to one last concert 🎶 tonight with another one of our favorite local musicians who moved out to Colorado a couple of years ago and returns here for a few gigs in early fall. Jim Green plays his original compositions in a unique style of finger-picking, percussive guitar and is absolutely fascinating to watch in person and a really nice guy as well. I’m not sure where exactly he’s at in Colorado but if you’re anywhere near I strongly encourage you to catch him live if you can. You can check him out at jimgreenmusic.com.

Wishing everyone a beautiful weekend ahead🍁🍂!

It was a beautiful evening here, cool but still, no wind. We sat outside the brewery where Jim performed his magic for 2 hours and it was wonderful. I was comfortable in just a light jacket and never cold. BTW, he’s in Loveland but plays all over CO; catch him if you can; you won’t be disappointed. He plays smooth haunting music as well as riveting percussive stuff.

My next-door neighbors have a second home in the U.P. and travel there frequently returning home thru WI, and they always bring us the Spotted Cow as a thank you. We’ve camped at Governor Dodge many times over the years and enjoyed visiting all the area towns, including New Glarus. When we were in the area last year, we visited the New Glarus Brewery and it is an awesome place to visit (+ the beer is great!) and we’ll definitely be stopping there on this trip.. So, for a change, we’ll be the ones bringing back 🐄 for our neighbors!

    Mini-musings:
    – So I have 4 CDs maturing this month but not all at the same time. This could be good or bad but whatever. Yesterday, I stopped by Amboy Savings and I found out something wonderful. So going forward, in addition to the interest being paid out to my linked account, the principal will also be credited to my account upon maturity. This is perfect for me because I may want to move funds around. I’m pretty sure the difference is negligible but one never knows!
    – At Whole Foods, in an effort to be helpful…so helpful that instead of bending down to rearrange a package that was almost slipping out of the shelf, the guy USED HIS FOOT 🦶 to move the errant package. Seriously, I would NEVER do this because, FOOD! This is just as bad as people who go barefoot in the plane. Ugh! 😩

I just read an article about Whole Foods and their 365 brand, which is mostly made up of imported ingredients from china and other countries around the world, who don’t necessarily follow the “organic” guidelines we do in the US. Here’s an article, but you can dig deeper and find more dirt easily. I think I’d prefer the “toe-food” to the heavy metal Chinese “organic” food…
