Thursday scent of the day 10/3

Posted by Robin on 3 October 2024 94 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday, and don’t forget Donatella will be stopping by later this morning! Birthdays: Eleonora Duse, Pierre Bonnard, Thomas Wolfe, James Herriot, Chubby Checker. What fragrance are you wearing?

Cinnamon of the day: Tauer Perfumes Phi — Une Rose de Kandahar.

Reminder: on 10/4, for National Cinnamon Roll Day, wear a fragrance with a cinnamon note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Delina Exclusif. SWEET! Juicy lychees, soft ripe pears and candied flowers with a creamy wood base. The oud is not obvious and rather, blended into the background. The lasting power is very good and I have perfume devouring skin. Someone needs to invite me to a garden party because I smell ready.

Love the picture! I first thought it was cinnamon covered bananas.😂

Another Givenchy for a cinnamon week? Yes! Organza Indecence in all its woody deliciousness, sprinkled with cinnamon.

I’m in my JM Ginger Biscuit decant for the cp (from last year’s split). Still trying to get rid of this scratchy throat and cough. I am having trouble sleeping which is the worst part. Did a COVID test yesterday which was negative. I can smell the Ginger Biscuit but not as well as usual, although that is very typical for me when I have anything respiratory.

I love Sally Rooney. She was also one of our fellows at NYPL.
This book I am liking more than the last one that came out, but I am only about 150 pages in. She doesn’t use quotations for dialogue which I know annoys some, but for me I get use to it. I also read everything with an Irish accent in my head….lol 🙂

I’m in Glossier You. They released their two flankers at midnight and I’ve broken my own no blind buy rule and ordered the Doux, which is described as a soft and serene woody blend. The order includes a sample of Reve, which is described as a lush and dreamy gourmand. I have found that I’m not a gourmand girl, but I’ll be glad to sample it. Just in time for Donatella.😈

I got a text from my son yesterday asking if I had time for an actual phone call. Experience has taught me this usually means something is wrong. Luckily he began the call with “I’m okay” but his car got rear ended/hit and run while parked in front of his house.☹️ People are such 🤬. Compared to what people are going through in other parts of the country, I am well aware of what a minor inconvenience this truly is. I’m just so thankful he wasn’t driving and IS okay.

More about civil mediation — taking the course is part of the qualification. The other part is to go through mentoring: 2 cases for a total of 5 hours. Not bad … but do I want to? The good news is nothing is lighting a fire to “make” me do it; however, at the same time, I committed to taking the course so at the very least I am somewhat qualified. I have to read the manual, review my notes, look into insurance, peruse the court roster so there really is still plenty to do. I also learned that I need to learn to read the room better and not be married to my checklist. In any case, I am sure there’s more to come in the future!

In other news, I read a Wall Street Journal article today titled “Stop Asking People ‘What Do You Do?’” I will link to a post later. According to the article, there are 5 things to consider:
    1) Assess your values (What gives your life meaning?)
    2) Reframe your skills (Whatever your expertise or passion, it can be redirected.)
    3) Get some perspective (You can reprioritize.)
    4) Make tiny changes ( Walk / Run first before signing up for a marathon.)
    5) Change your intro (Practice your elevator speech.)

I have found it very useful to always answer “ home maker” when asked “ what do you do?”. People who are status orientated, who can only talk “ work” leave you alone to go and find someone more “ worthy”. People who have a wider, more open outlook on life immediately start talking about more interesting topics: books, films, life, travel, family etc etc. and the conversation flows. Works every time.

The “What do you do?” part of your comment reminded me of a co-worker years ago. She asked if I wanted to go to a local sports bar for food and drinks with her boyfriend and his family. Sure, I say. This was at a time in my life when I was very social. Anyway, the entire night she asked the boyfriend:
      “What should I order?”
      “Do you like it?”
      “Should I get dessert?”
“What should I get to drink?”
      “Should I get another drink?”
“What time do you want to leave?”
“Is it cold out? Do I need to put on in my sweater?”

As nauseam. She was a very nice gal but I just could not stomach her dependency. So happy to leave that sports bar! 🙃

Wet day here and we’re under a state of emergency due to flooding with heavy rain chucking down. My house is on high ground so I’m not directly affected by surface flooding., though the garage and laundry flood due to run-off. From the hill pooling. Wet and murky. The poor birds and burrowing creatures will be miserable. At this time of year there will be some nestlings that will die from exposure. You always find them on the ground after rain, as they have died and then been tipped out of their nests. Baby rabbits won’t be too happy, either. Wearing Chypre Mousse layered with Eau Moheli for a bit of light.

Yesterday I got my two fall vaccinations and today I think I’m running a slight fever, and I have a sore arm, but I know it will pass pretty quickly. The Moderna vaccine hurts during administration, too. Today I have a massage (yay!), tomorrow I am getting a haircut in a new style after a nine-month grow out. Non-compliant today. SOTD is Zara Leather Jardin. Just didn’t feel like wearing cinnamon, but I will play along tomorrow. I think I did the usual number of hajusuuri sprays because some woman at the store walked by me and said, “someone sure smells good”. She was pretty far away so I think I may have sprayed too much or she was talking about someone else. There was only one person that was near us and that was a young man, and I don’t think it was him.

Trying to pack lightly, with multi-tasking products and clothes. Always a challenge for me! Plus do I have everything? N95 masks – ✔ Makeup – ✔ Fragrances – ✔.

Unscented today as I pack for the pre-crack of dawn get-up time for the first flight out. Think I’ll wear BSoC tomorrow. I’m only taking that and Clouds with me so I’ll be non compliant for the next week or so.

Absolutely perfect early Autumn weather here today, with blue skies and temps in the low 70’s. But SO dry! I would gladly take a week of Robin’s wet and grey weather.

SOTD = Fzotic POOF! from The Sample Stash. It’s a pretty and playful floral that is very likeable. Suits me much better than some of the other samples I have recently tested.

Today’s perfume is not the cinnamon bomb that Rousse is, but it’s still a Serge scent with a very healthy dose of it. It’s Five O’Clock Au Gingembre from my almost-finished decant. This is one I’ve waffled over whether or not I need a bottle, and today I’m leaning towards yes. But we’ll see what I think after the decant is actually gone. Yesterday I forgot to comment but wore Le Labo Labdanum 18, a perfume I really never see mentioned anywhere. I’ve got a couple decants of it still from long ago swaps. It’s a strong like but not one I’ll ever need a bottle of.

I probably should have gotten a decant when it came out, I waffled over the sample and just gave up.

    sotd = Insolence edt

One of the few fruity perfumes I enjoy. It smells like fun times. The oddly shaped bottle is a bit of a laugh too. 🛸

The original Insolence bottle was a great one. So much character to it.

I love Insolence, the edt, edp, and several flankers/special editions.
I should probably seek the rare extrait, but I’ll never run out in the meantime! 😀

Stopping by rather late to waft some EL Cinnabar, the 2015 version. I knew it did not have cinnamon, but the orange and the cloves suggest that cinnamon *might* be on the way. I’m enjoying everyone’s choices – we smell wonderful!

I figured you might have an EL choice this week…
