Thursday scent of the day 9/19

Posted by Robin on 19 September 2024 106 Comments

Ahoy! It’s Thursday and International Talk Like a Pirate Day. (PSA: the swapmeet be comin' up on Saturday.) What fragrance be ye wearin?

I had a dickens of a time finding my Memo Inlé, but for once I was successful. Points!

Reminder: on 9/20, we're off to Mainland Southeast Asia! Wear a perfume that is named for a place in Mainland Southeast Asia (we'll include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and West Malaysia), or that reminds you of a (real or imaginary) trip to to the region, or that features a local ingredient, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Thank you all so much for your kind words yesterday. I wish I could hug you all, my lovely NST family. ❤️ It’s a long journey to feeling right again but it’s easier everyday.
Sotd is Tam Dao for the much needed calmness and CP points.

I am wearing one of my treasures, Auphorie Miyako from Malaysia.

The Auphorie website describes it perfectly:

“Walking down the serene street of the ancient capital city of the Far East Land. Golden osmanthus (Kin-Mokusei) flowers are in full bloom, exuding its sweet and exotic scent with notes of ripe apricot, peach and freesia. There are also Yuzu trees in the midst of the osmanthus, adding a hint of citrus to the bouquet. Jackets worn by pedestrians fill the air with a touch of leather. Notes of Jasmine green tea come from the tea house nearby. Geishas with white faces and red lips are walking up and down, and the slight powdery note of those scented sachets tied to their waists slowly penetrates the air. Finally, scents of precious woods from the nearby Jinja (shrine) shine through, accompanied by the sweet, caramellic Katsura leaves which have already turned red in this season of autumn.”

Has anyone else tried Auphorie fragrances?

If you like perfumes with deep natural ingredients, they are really worth it.

I wish I could send you a sample but I’m a terrible procrastinator and way behind on other promises. I need a personal assistant!

        Yay, scent twin!

I might have one other one. I’m getting Auphorie mixed up in my head with the Areej le Dore so I’m not sure. Obviously my perfumes are not well organized at this point, lol.

I don’t know if I’m eligible for points, but after deva’s raptures over Ambra Aurea it’s been on my wish list for a while. I recently used a Fumerie gift certificate and got a travel spray of it. My heavens, but it’s absolutely gorgeous! I have that “now my collection is complete” feeling that many of us are familiar with (and that we know won’t last). Off to find out if this beauty has any south Asian components. 🥰

Was it Fumerie for you too? I’m amazed at how efficient their order system is — my order shipped the same day that I placed it, and was here in a flash! They are here in my town, but still. I should really go do a “real” visit one of these days.

These past few days, I’ve mostly been alternating between Eau de néroli doré and Terre d’Hermès Eau Très Fraîche.

I got to try Barénia and I quite like it. To me, it is a more fruity Galop. While I don’t think I will get the fragrance itself (unless I get a great deal on it), I may get the soap and the body cream at some point to layer with Galop d’Hermès.

I’ve been looking at reviews of it online where it’s compared to so many different fragrances that I didn’t know what to expect. I guess that helped me go in with an open mind, and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.

Copying apsara from yesterday with Volutes edt. Lovely stuff although there is something in far, far, dry down that I find…not as pleasing. I guess the way to combat that is to keep adding layers throughout the day? Not sure what the co-worker would think of that though. Her husband has told her she needs to take a shower more than once in front of people, which I find more offensive than BO. Alas, only a few more days!

Busy day of chores, then office for a few hours today. Hardly anyone camping now, which I do NOT understand. The weather is the best it will be for another year, no bugs, no noise and crowds…ah well, more for ME! ☺️

Shiseido Inoui for the cp today and because it’s an old favorite from back in the late 70s. So long ago. It’s not really my usual type of thing, but I still find it unique and lovely (even poetic, as one fragrantica reviewer noted).

Morning: Lush Avocado Co-Wash body spray + ELDO Fils de Dieu du riz et des agrumes. The former has litsea cubeba and the latter has ginger, and these notes are my connection to the CP. I loved the combo, by the way.

And now I have sprayed a little of Tabac Rouge, which has benzoin Siam.

Gucci Pour Femme EdT. I like it. The vibe is perfumy, a little sharp. It is a newer perfume with a vintage vibe touched with pineapple? Once I get through my travel spray I dont think I will buy a full bottle, since the last thing i need is a full bottle of anything, but I like it.

There are quite a few Memo leathers, aren’t there? I was just thinking that Memo must have SOMETHING that fits this week’s CP, since they’re all about “exotic” places. How do you differentiate among the various leathers they’ve made? I rarely like anything with leather (suede is as far as I go!), so I’m genuinely curious.

Well, I couldn’t find my choice for the day, Sloth, in my miscellaneous sample basket so I put on another thing I found in there, Mancera Aoud Lemon Mint. I sprayed naively and ZOWIE is this thing potent. It is also SUPER masculine. I’m ok with unisex but this one reeks like a guy you’d meet on a very bad blind date. I didn’t scrub it off because I”m not getting up to much today and I thought I’d give it some time (more than I would to that guy on the date).

I’m wearing a smple of Senyokô’s Duo Des Fleurs and taking a CP point for the thick, rich jasmine note. And for an extra half point, I’m finishing up a jasmine candle. It came in a beautiful marbled-glass jar that I am 100% going to use as a drinking glass once the candle is done.

Today’s tea is a combo of a Sugar Cookie Oolong (which I think would be better described as Spice Cookie Oolong) and some assam to add a malty flavor and hold up to some milk. I’m enjoying the shift into fall spice flavors.

Started the day in HdP 1804, then became CP compliant by testing Cloon Keen Enbarr, which is an oud, so I’ve landed in SE Asia! I am not sure about the far drydown, but it is really warm here today (70s) so it may just be too rich for me in this weather. I am curious how it will work for me in cooler weather.

We are off early tomorrow to Dublin (with our students). There have been protests and counter-protests there today, with multiple arrests but (according to the reporting I have seen) no injuries. Hoping for a calm weekend, for everyone’s sake.

Immigration — Robin beat me to it. I won’t say more than that because I do not want to politicize my comment. I will say that Ireland is likely to have a snap election this fall, vs. the one officially scheduled for early next year, so there is a lot of anxiety and upheaval.

I love that one, it’s such a pity Grandiflora is so hard to find in Europe these days.

That is too bad because it’s such a beautiful line. I also love Saskia, Magnolia and Boronia.

Like nozknoz I went with Auphorie Miyako today, a rich and delightful osmanthus perfume from a Malaysian brand.

I remember sampling Miyako years ago. It’s a beauty and you smell wonderful!

Mother Nature pushed “repeat” on the weather today, so I am enjoying another perfect late summer day with blue skies and temps in the low 80’s. It’s not going to last much longer, though. Rain is in the forecast for the weekend.

SOTD = Replica Tea Escape by Martin Margiela again. I have one last wearing left in my sample, and then it will be time to try something else.

I’m officially thunking my BBW Coco Paradise body spray today. I probably have another wearing but I am sick of it!
Can anyone help me out with the cp tomorrow? I have no clue what would fit. I haven’t seen anything this week that I have to copy off someone.

Do you have any perfumes with mango, ginger, lemongrass, or rice notes in them?
