Les Eternels de Balmain ~ new fragrances

Posted by Robin on 27 August 2024 9 Comments

Balmain has introduced Les Éternels de Balmain, a collection of 8 unisex fragrances. Four are 'reinvented' fragrances from the brand's archive (Carbone, Ébène, Ivoire and Vent Vert) and four are new (Bleu Infini, Bronze, Rouge and Sel d’Ambre). The series represents the launch of Balmain Beauty, under licensing arrangements with Estée Lauder.

Carbone ~ Musk. "In its lacquered signature Balmain black bottle, Carbone drives the quest for identity. It confidently reflects all the facets of who you truly are and shares it with the world. The assertive duality of a maximalist musk mirroring the minimalist rose." Additional notes include suede, patchouli, sandalwood and cumin.

Ébène ~ Woody amber. "Ébène is the revival of Pierre Balmain's 1983 Africa-inspired fragrance, envisioned through the lens of Olivier Rousteing’s discovery of his origins. In its high-shine ebony-like dark brown bottle, the timeless fragrance ushers in the age of self-discovery and a journey to reveal our universal origin. Precious myrrh oil coiled around an ebony tree’s eternal roots to ground the scent in essence and permanence." Additional notes include tobacco, incense, geranium and cedar.

Ivoire ~ Woody floral. "Ivoire carries Balmain’s New French Style legacy to the world and into the future. This classic 1979 fragrance has been updated for Les Éternels in a crystal-clear bottle to reflect the optimism of modern Paris, uniting all the beauties of the world with no exceptions. An intoxicating grand tubéreuse de nuit unfolds her indulging opulence while entangled in the vetiver's untamed and rugged roots." Additional notes include turmeric, grapefruit, solar orange blossom and suede.

Vent Vert ~ Green floral. "Vent Vert has a direct connection to nature. In its translucent emerald-green bottle, the uplifting fragrance breathes new life into the pioneering classic green Pierre Balmain created in 1947. Reinvented for a new age, the iconic green fragrance embodies respect for nature in a timeless journey through past, present, and future. A combination of airy vert de mandarine and sensual jasmine in full flower." Additional notes include blackcurrant, galbanum, calypsone and soft musks.

Bleu Infini ~ Woody aromatic. "Bleu Infini transports to endless skies, infinite seas, and their call to set you free. In its translucent Mediterranean blue bottle, the inspiration for the fragrance is Villa Balmain, Pierre Balmain’s modernist hideaway on the island of Elba. Land meets sea when the maquis warmth of cistus absolute embraces salted lichen." Additional notes include pink pepper, clary sage, akigalawood and oakmoss.

Bronze ~ Woody chypre. "In its metallic ignited copper bottle, Bronze symbolizes rebirth, majestically rising like the Phoenix from the ashes. The story behind this creation is Olivier Rousteing’s healing journey from a fire-related accident. A contrasting trio of blazing cedarwoods revived by a surprisingly cooling patchouli." Additional notes include black pepper, tobacco, jasmine and hay.

Rouge ~ Fruity floral. "Rouge draws inspiration from Pierre Balmain and Olivier Rousteing’s deep connection to the allure of stardom and success. In its passion-red bottle, the fragrance radiates addictive love, reminiscent of LA’s magic hour, when the sky is not even the limit. An electrifying floral fruity bouquet flirting with radiant woods." Additional notes include lily, georgywood, moraea ciliata, osmanthus, ylang ylang and magnolia.

Sel d’Ambre ~ Amber. "In its reflective signature Balmain golden bottle, Sel d'Ambre captures the mystique of glittering desert nights. Its mysterious glow illuminates the path to inner peace. A captivating alchemy of glowing amber and the mineral and oceanic depth of salty ambergris." Additional notes include olibanum, rukeri tea accord, ambre 83 and orris accord.

Balmain Carbone, Ébène, Ivoire, Vent Vert, Bleu Infini, Bronze, Rouge and Sel d’Ambre are $300 each for (refillable) 50 ml. A coffret of all eight in 4 ml is $225; a set of eight in 1.5 ml sample size is $55; a set of three 10 ml travel sprays (Carbone, Rouge and Sel d'Ambre) is $195.

Love the tag “Enough with the luxury collections already!”

I have the OG Ivoire de Balmain. There is not a single iota of tuberose in it.

The resurrection of Balmain ! And it’s exactly what the perfume market wants now: another Tom Ford : expensive prices, luxury bottles and a “hype”. We -the perfume addicts- are not the target.

Well, to say a (kind of) nice thing, at least they didn’t touch my beloved Jolie Madame.
