Thursday scent of the day 8/22

Posted by Robin on 22 August 2024 102 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Eat A Peach Day! Also, the International Day Commemorating the Victims of Acts of Violence Based on Religion or Belief. Musical birthdays: John Lee Hooker, Claude Debussy, Tori Amos. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking more community project points in Guerlain Cologne du 68.

Reminder: 8/23 will be Cypress Friday...wear a fragrance with a cypress note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I will listen to Clair de Lune in honor of Claude Debussy today.

I remember playing Clair de Lune for a piano recital. I had to memorize it so played it about a million times. Not that I don’t like it, but definitely got tired of the music after a while.

I wanted herbal today, so I chose L’Eau d’Armoise, for the artemisia. I actually own a full bottle of this, which is only my second full bottle of Serge Lutens.

Finally a break from the heat today. Phew.
Photo shoot this morning, and my daughter comes to town this afternoon. It’s her birthday week, and one of her presents will be a bottle of “3 Fleurs” from Parfum D’Empire. Always risky to give an unknown perfume to someone – I just have a hunch she’ll love it.

I’m in Malle’s “Rose et Cuir” today. I hear it’s somewhat divisive in the fragrance community, but I really dig it. It’s strange, but (to my nose) utterly beautiful.

It’s cloudy here this morning and we have a bit of rain coming this afternoon, so it’s Encre Noire (and points!) for me today. There’s more summer weather coming next week, but I looked out at my bellwether tree (a coralbark maple and the one that turns to autumn the earliest) and it is showing signs of fall already — yay! Every fall I think that’s my favorite season, and in spring I love spring the best. Lucky me, huh? Reminds me of the caption on one of my tea mugs: “Bloom where you’re planted.”

Just rolled out of bed and enjoying a cuppa joe. Have not spritzed yet but definitely will be wearing SSS Forest Walk, which includes Wester Red Cedar in the note profile. Lovely stuff!
Does anyone have any connection or news about Laurie? I think of her often, even when I’m not wearing any of her fragrances, always hoping she is well and happy.

Sad to find out another of my favorite musicians went space trucking back in March. I haven’t kept up with my music interests in the past couple of years. Anyway, just downloaded his posthumously released album and his book “Cablog” which is about his five years of night shift cab driving in his hometown of Lafayette Louisiana. Lots of sad stories. What shines through is his affinity and care for the down and out- the mentally ill, the homeless, the addicted…probably because he had been all of those things himself. Of course, last night I had a dream about him. R.I.P. Brother Dege, lover and most excellent purveyor of Mississippi Delta Blues.

I DO remember you saying something about that, although I don’t remember the details.. I haven’t ordered anything since she sold it as I haven’t seen anything new from the subsequent owner and I’ve had plenty to last me until now. I’m in dire need of a small bottle of Equestrian this fall. My travel spray is done. ☹️

And I’m jealous of your sleep like I always am! But I’m off work tomorrow and looking forward to sleeping in.

Friday morning so I’m wearing Sycomore for the CP , though I see it as more of a sandalwood than cypress perfume. Down the road from where I live is a big empty section which is covered in gorse and broom, and wattle…a symphony in yellow at this time of year. I love the scent of broom, the mix of sweet mimosa with a touch of fresh mint. The gorse has a much denser smell, and coconutty. I’m off to Central Otago, hoping to see some of the orchards that fill the area in blossom. The cherry blossom in town is all flowering now and the magnolias are adding colour bursts.

So one of my cousins’ son is getting married in November. The RSVP snail mail came way back in April, and I believe this was after a Save the Date postcard magnet. I had promptly RSVPd and decided to wait until now to reserve a room. Well would you believe there were no rooms available? What in the [you fill in the blank]? Anyway, I hope to see them this Saturday so I can ask them questions …

And P.S. – It’s Pumpkin Spice Latte time! I have decided that it is way overdone but at some point, I will have one 🎃.

Figured I could go without perfume for a little bit longer, LOL!

Scented lotions are my friend when I want to fly under the radar…

Didn’t know if this was a scent free office, and wasn’t interested in finding out the hard way.

I really liked it, though. Glad my brother recommended that dentist!

A good dentist is worth their weight in gold!

Thinking that Wednesday’s headache was weather-related. Sometimes a really big change in weather will knock me for a loop…

    sotd = Geisha Vanilla Hinoki

I think maybe hinoki counts for cypress. 😁 The other day my neighbors had their cypress hedge trimmed and shaped. The smell of the cut boughs was delightful as it wafted in the air.

Robin is smelling fantastic in Cologne du 68. That’s one of my desert island scents for sure. 💖 Will have to wear it soon.

I think I got a bottle of the Cologne du 68 from you. It is still inside the plastic over wrap 😱

Sometimes landscapers do us a favor, and create something pleasant smelling. Other times, not so much!

You’re right about Cologne du 68. It’s up there amongst favorites for me too.

SOTD = Chanel 31 Rue Cambon EDT

Beautiful! I was going to wear Sycomore because it has a cypress note. I should have looked at the bottle before I did my spritzessss but hey, it’s the thought that counts, right? Right!

My nephew has not been deployed to the Middle East as he was just home last weekend! Yay!

I usually have hostess gift anxiety but this time I just decided to bring (mild) salsa and chips. I may stop by Wegmans to see if there’s interesting beverages.
