Friday scent of the day 8/16

Posted by Robin on 16 August 2024 133 Comments

Happy Mood Changer Friday! (Also, National Roller Coaster Day.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume that instantly changes your mood. Thanks to pixel for the idea!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Me, same old: I am on a road trip this week and will be behind in all the usual ways (posting will be light, I will be even slower than my usual slow to read comments and attend to emails). My fragrance, possibly for the whole week, is my DIY lotion with blood orange & ylang ylang. No points for me this week although my lotion does make me happy.

Reminder: on 8/23 we will have a community project! I just don't know what it is yet, sorry.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello and tgif!
Sotd is 24 Faubourg edp. It is golden sunshine in a bottle. Makes me feel brighter, happier and glamorous (and expensive – who doesn’t want that?).
My best friend just messaged me saying her husband’s company’s annual department trip in October is cancelled and now she has a week to spare. We have decided to go on a bestie’s trip (her husband has to work). Destination is Bangkok because she heard me having so much fun last month and she really wants to go (I don’t mind going again also).

My sotd is Serge Lutens Encens et Lavande, which I think of as calm in a bottle. I have some left in a decant that’s at least 18 years old. Why it hasn’t evaporated or turned is a mystery as I have lost other, newer decants to both. I tend to just sniff this as a relaxing potion but it smells so good on skin.
Happy Friday everyone! From my spot on my porch, I can see some leaves starting to turn colors or just getting that bleached look right before they start to change. I love fall but I’m not ready to let go of summer quite yet.

I’m not taking cp points, but I’m wearing Tauer Orange Star from a discovery set. I think the base notes are overpowering any freshness from the citrus top notes. Of course this is several years old and has likely deteriorated.

CSP Amour de Cacao always puts me in a good mood, and in my experience anyone within sniffing distance. It smells like a pan of brownies and is so cheerful and unexpected that it’s one of my go-tos when I just don’t know what to wear. (Their Vanille Abricot is the other. It’s never the wrong choice.)

I wore Élixir des Merveilles today.

But it wasn’t the fragrance that was a mood changer for me: I picked up an Hermès scarf for next to nothing!

As far as I can tell, it’s authentic (hand-rolled edges, Hermès logo, design name, artist’s signature), even though it’s missing its tag. I’ve compared it against scarves I already own as well as online pictures of the design, and it looks and feels like the real deal!

I am pretty much wearing eau de camping and ocean air (which, yes, makes me very happy). We are packing the tent today from our 4th camping trip so far this summer: Kalaloch, on the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Spectacular setting, happy families, decent campsites, crappy (pun intended) bathrooms. But it was wonderful. I also scattered my parents’ ashes where they had requested (and per Olympic National Park guidelines) while hiking yesterday. A bittersweet trip.

Camping trip sounds fantastic. And bittersweet indeed re your parents’ ashes, though good on you for getting that accomplished.
A friend’s dad died during the pandemic (of old age, not covid) and my friend feels guilty that they haven’t done anything with the ashes yet. Too many family members to corral, and deciding on a time & place.

Yes, it was difficult but not impossible. We had to keep trying. Another nice campground on the water is Salt Creek Campground on the north side of the Peninsula near Port Angeles. A little easier to get a site there and you can hear the waves there, too.

super! Thank you for sharing. 🙏

I have done a lot of beach camping in California, but it has become almost impossible to get a reservation within the state parks system. Too many campers, not enough sites.

My dad and his sweet wife recently moved to Washington state. I’ve never been there so it would be fun to explore together. 🏕️

Hi! We are in Corsica and guess what I found here? Corsica Furiosa! I got a sample from the lovely lady from the shop. It seems that the perfumer is from here. In love with the perfume. This island smells sooo good.

Also, I bought a discovery set form a perfumer called Sylvaine Delacourte (worked for Guerlain, according to the sales lady ). She has 5 different perfumes for a collection called Fleur Doranger. Really nice!

    sotd = l’Artisan l’Eau du Caporal

Instant mood lifter, it smell like Irish Spring soap. Reminds me of my grandparents home. They always had unwrapped bars of Irish Spring and Lava soaps in their linen cupboard so towels and sheets smelled wonderful.

Scent of Thursday was 4711 eau de Cologne. It’s a little hot here. 😥💦

Fresh strawberries, they are all amazing at the moment, the UK is a big producer, almost no travel and cheap. For a second day in a row Zara Jour ensoleillé, one of my only 2 or 3 coconut fragrances and tonight for the CP Avon Casbah, so sandalwoody and old enough that it is likely Mysore, it used to be so affordable like all vintage Avons but these days not so much.

Yes, some discontinued scents are also less affordable, like Timeless.

You smell wonderful! In my dozen years down the rabbit hole, I have wondered why the older Avons were always *dirt* cheap on Ebay. I am not surprised to hear that people have caught on. Imperial Garden, Persian Wood or Imari are not to be missed IMHO!

I always think of you when I wear vintage Avons, no longer cheap indeed here in the UK either.

Inspired by Austenfan’s mention of Beloved, I’ll spray on some Jubilation 25 after my shower. It’s guaranteed to make me feel good but, even better, I’m talking to a travel agent this morning about a trip to Europe next year. There’s a lot of thinking and planning to go, but this is the first tangible step.

Where will you go in Europe?

Glad to have inspired you to wear Jub. 25, I might wear that myself tomorrow. Have you ever tried L’Ame Perdue by Galion? They are slightly similar.

I usually go to a Korean grocery after my Whole Foods visits (usually Tuesdays for the soup and Fridays for the sushi); it is on the way home… Anyway, I saw this cute thermoflask and I thought why not for caturday?

For today’s cp, I knew I would choose a lavender scent, as that note always calms me and promotes tranquility. I chose L’Occitane’s Terre de Lumiere, a beautiful blend of lavender softened with a comforting honey note on a base of tonka and almond. Its name means ‘land of light’ and it’s meant to celebrate that short moment just before dusk as the sun falls, the sky fills with golden and purple light, and the air is filled with fragrant Provençal scents.

It also holds special significance as a reminder of the first glimpse I had of the Mediterranean Sea from our hotel room in Nice, France at that same ‘golden hour’ reflected in this scent. A surreal moment, I was completely mesmerized by the many different shades of blue and green deepening to purple I saw in the gentle waves, and then all of a sudden as the light grew dimmer the colors just stopped, just went away, and the Sea was just one dark color. It happened so quickly but I will never forget those precious moments! And they always calm me upon remembrance.

Hoping to get to our last community park concert tonight – a big band one – but the weather is calling for storms so we’ll see🤞. Otherwise a quiet weekend ahead, hope to spend some time doing some much-needed tidying up after several weeks of neglect due to hot, sticky weather, storms, and just general running around! Wishing everyone a calm and pleasant weekend ahead😌

For the CP win: Champs Elysees edt. A love at first sniff for this Guerlain fangirl, CE is to me fun, elegant and has a great scent bubble. All these qualities make it a mood-lifter. I also wear the edp, but must admit the edt is my favorite. Wonderful rainy morning here, a long, much-needed and gentle rain with some nice thunder and lightning, but no scary winds.

More deep blue skies again today, along with temps in the low 90s. Pretty nice!

Last night, however, was completely different. Had an impressive batch of thunderstorms roll on thru between 11:30 and midnight. The thunder was loud enough that Teflon kitty refused to come out of my bedroom closet until it was over. And it shook my brother’s house enough to set off one of his smoke detectors! Hopefully tonight is not a repeat.

SOTD = still hanging out in Lime, Gardenia & Benzoin. It makes me feel composed and put together, even if I might be sleep deprived and a little derpy.

I was a little surprised, since Teflon experienced Superstorm Sandy as a kitten and it didn’t faze her at all.
