Wednesday scent of the day 7/31

Posted by Robin on 31 July 2024 126 Comments

It's Hump Day and the last day of July. Also, World Ranger Day. What fragrance are  you wearing?

Me: Demeter Beetroot for the win.

Reminder: 8/2 will be Silly Friday...wear a silly perfume, or a perfume with a silly name, or a perfume that comes in a silly bottle, or ? (Raise your hand if you are the person who suggested this!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Great choice Robin!
Another hot one and I have to be outside for a good part of the day, so I’m in many sprays of CK One. It will vanish quickly.

I’m not sure if this is silly or just ironic. I’m wearing Under the Lemon Tree, from a sample. None of the notes listed on Fragrantica include lemon.

    Hello.
Sotd is Nettare Di Sole. Sparkly bergamot paired with equally sparkling aquatics and a tiny drizzle of honey. Simple, refreshing and Summer appropriate but sadly has a short wear time. I would be totally on board if Guerlain released a Forte version and amped up the honey.
Today I went to the Royal Palace. The architectures are breathtakingly beautiful and artistic. Every corner of each building had been thought through with design, colour and symbolism. I wish I could live there, even just for a day. Dinner is at the Peninsula hotel’s Thai restaurant. Coconut chicken soup, pomelo salad, chicken in pandan leaves and red duck curry. Fantastic meal.

This morning I’ve doused myself in Paris-Édimbourg from Chanel. I’m crazy about it. I know it wasn’t marketed specifically to men, but there’s so much more life and elegance to it than Bleu. Why can’t Chanel up their game for their mainstream “masculine” line?

Good question. A good reason to cross over to the other side, so to speak. 😉
The Édimbourg was my favorite of that bunch, too.

We got just enough rain so far to jack the humidity up to 80% and make mud on the windows. I have thrown in the towel and turned on the AC.

I thunked about 4-5 bottles of Metal back in the day (early 80s). Such an amazing scent and very hard to come by now. Its older sister, Calandre, still easy to find and heavily discounted so I picked up a bottle in the spring. Even current formulation smell great to me.

Generous sprays of PdE Corsica Furiosa this morning. Still one of my all time favorites… I wish PdE offered travel size bottles. I know I’d buy several.

Off to the post office through the smoke. Today is bad, can’t even see mid-distance hills, forget the horizon. It’s distressing to see so much of the west on fire and it must be bothering more than I thought because I had nightmares about fire last night.

Rain, we need some very wet, drenching, fire quenching rain!

I was watering Mr. allo’s tomato plants this morning and basking in the smell of tomato leaves. So I’m starting the day in another neglected beauty, AdV Signature for the tomato leaf/rhubarb combo. This is one of the perfumes that I credit with taking me down the fragrant path…🌸

I’m in Chanel Comete. The only thing silly about this one is the price.😅
I caved last night and bought a bottle of Zara’s Livre Blanc because it was on sale for 15.99. That’s perfumemath free. I couldn’t pass that up. The other one I tried and liked was Popeline but that one was sold out.

Did you get a sample somewhere? I would love to try it, but don’t want to put out that kind of money if I don’t like it. Just wondering where I would be able to order a sample.

Zara’s perfumes are certainly reasonable, and it makes it even better when there is a sale.

Lancôme Aromafit today for a visit to the hygienist and tonight TF Métallique, confession to Donatella, I got a full 100ml bottle for £62 from a seller I trust, I originally wanted 50ml though, well, I will spray with abandon.

I just KNEW you would find Méttallique for a good price, you’re the best at getting great deals! Congrats!

Thank you Tulipani, this perfume did not get much love hence no one was competing when I made my offer for £10 less than the asking price which was accepted😀. To me it’s a beautiful aldehydes, perfumey vanilla and no ambroxan so it’s a winner.

I’m wearing Mediterraneo today, the start of a triple-digit heat wave. The new patio cover is installed and looks great. It’s clean, not covered with moss or grime, and is a couple of inches higher than the old one. It lets more light into the kitchen.

I am wearing Balmain Ivoire, the version from 2012. I love this so much, it is my favorite summer soapy scent. Fresh from the shower without needing the shower.

You smell great, I enjoy this version too, got it when it was released, now discontinued, people compare it to vintage Dove pink soap. I think both versions are worth having, they’re different.

I don’t have that version, i have an older bottle that I enjoy a lot.
I am curious now about the 2012 one.

I’m wearing Antonio Alessandrino Fleurs et Flammes from a sample given to me by Gaynor. It’s nicely blended but not really my style, a fusty floral . It might be better in the heat , when it would get a bit more of a lift. It’s been a bit miserable with the cold here, still patches of snow on the hills but grey skies and chilly . Frosty this morning so we might see the sun later. Hope so. Oh, rabbit rabbit rabbit ! August is here.

It’s been horrible winter weather here for the last few days, but Kanuka has had it worse. Just when spring felt close…
I’m wearing Rouge Sarây from Atelier des Ors for thoughts of warm places.

I think one of my perfumes for today has a kinda silly name. I’m comparing my new sample of Hiram Green Tryst with his discontinued orange blossom perfume Dilettante (this is the one with the silly name). Verdict: Tryst is lovely, and if I didn’t already have enough Dilettante to last a lifetime, I’d consider a bottle. They’re quite similar, both sharp right after being sprayed. Tryst is the prettier of the two to me since Dilettante is more indolic and has thicker base notes. Both very good perfumes to my nose!

Yesterday I wore Smell Bent She Wolf since I’d be remiss in not wearing one of theirs this week. I wish I still had some Lobster Cell Phone, both because I loved it and for this cp.

Thanks for comparing Dilettante to Tryst, I was curious about it. I also have a lifetime supply of Dilettante.

I’ll definitely try these two side by side again on a hotter day to see how I feel then.

I second the thanks for the comparison. I am enjoying Tryst but I wish it was more indolic like Dilletante.

Some people were rather bummed out when Dilletante was d/c’ed.

I’d definitely consider it. I do still have an unopened FB and travel spray of Dilettante though and don’t need to use a lot of sprays so I’m probably set. 😉

The samples I had ordered of Nomade Chloé came in yesterday, so that’s what on chez AnnE. I still like it as much as I did in the store, yet I’m also glad I didn’t spring for a bottle. While very pretty and wearable, it’s not evolving into a love. I think it’s the peach note that got me. 7Very well done for the price point, too.
There’s only one frag that I could think of in my collection for the CP, so I’m saving that for Friday. Wish I could find my Smell Bent decants!

Today, the big story was all the wildfires in Colorado. There are 7 burning in the state now, but not all of them are in the same area. Small mercies, I guess. I might not be wearing perfume for a while after today, since my sinuses are a little unhappy due to all the smoke in the air.

SOTD = Smell Bent Pepper Ylang again.

Does an air purifier help at all for your sinuses?

A little bit. But since I have the A/C on, and humidity is around 7 to 11 percent, my sinuses are seriously dried out. Doesn’t take much to aggravate them at this point.

I still have perfumed lotions and body butters!

The lack of rain and higher than usual temps are the big contributors to this situation. It’s been about 10 degrees above average for a month or two now.

        But wind sure isn’t helping.

I’m wearing Mitsouko for a very very busy day at work. Nothing silly about the scent, but I consider myself silly for being intimidated by it for so long. It took me many years, and finally the generosity of a NSTer, to try it. And I love it!

Mitsouko wasn’t scary at all for me either. Sometimes temperamental, but that’s part of the charm.
