Thursday scent of the day 7/25

Posted by Robin on 25 July 2024 90 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy National Hot Fudge Sundae Day! Birthdays: Josephine Tey, Elias Canetti, Johnny Hodges, Iman. What fragrance are you wearing?

For the 1981 Stones song Waiting on a Friend, I'm in Eau de Givenchy.

Reminder: 7/26 is Mick Jagger's birthday. Scent a Rolling Stones song, or scent the man himself, or do whatever you want with the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is a cropped still from the video for Waiting on a Friend.

    Hello.
Sotd is Cherry Oud. Sprayed heavy-handedly as the heat shortens the wear time considerably. (I thought I was imagining this heat effect but google confirmed I am not crazy. Lol)
I am eating a thick slice of chocolate marbled pound cake I made yesterday. Imagine that with a hot fudge sundae! That’s a proper meal all right.

Another one I liked was Orange Blossom Body Cream and Blackberry and Bay Cologne. I am not sure if you have any of the lotions or not so just throwing this out there. Also, Orange Blossom and English Pear and Freesia.

I haven’t done any layering at all with Jo Malone.

But I have considered getting a travel size of a body butter, just to check that product out. I’m a sucker for a good scented body product.

I heard a rumor that is worth perpetuating, regardless of its veracity: Keith Richards (at some point in his rock and roll life) would spray his underarms with“Joy” from Jean Patou.

I will not be applying it under my arms, but it will be my Rolling Stones/Mick Jagger-adjacent scent of the day.😎

Lalique Encre Noire (Black Ink) for Paint it Black https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4irXQhgMqg

The tune is so catchy and sounds upbeat, but the lyrics are very sad.

“No colors anymore I want them to turn black”

Just noticed the birthdays. Well Encre Noire works for writers as well. Never read anything by Canetti, but enjoyed Tey’s Daughter of Time, Miss Pym Disposes and Brat Farrar.

For me Clapton is God 🙂

I’m in FM Cologne Indelible-in the body milk format. I couldn’t find reviews of the body products so I tried them. They’re more like a cream than a body milk and the notes are true to the fragrances. I hurt myself cycling almost two weeks ago, and it really lifts my spirits to apply such a beautiful cream. Makes me feel much better. And it wasn’t a serious accident 🙂

I am a fan of the Stones, their music was a big part of my growing up years and I’ve seen them live several times. So I don’t understand why I can’t seem to find anything for the CP! My creative juices are stagnant.
So today I’m wearing Imaginary Authors The Soft Lawn. I should have a travel spray of this one.

At the moment I’m in Eau Sauvage, which I can imagine Sir Mick wearing with elan. But since we’re having a relatively mild day today, weather-wise, I will spritz on some Whiff of Waffle Cone at bedtime tonight and pair it with Brown Sugar.

Hermès Vetiver Tonka today from a travel spray. I tried to wear this exclusively a while back in an effort to thunk it but all I accomplished was to get heartily sick of it. It’s been in the back of my traveling perfume box since then, I think. Happy to report I’m finding it enjoyable at this moment, about 1/4 bottle left..

Just coming in from my add on job which is all outdoors and holy Krakatoa Batman! The smoke really began to get to me. I’m calling it a day for outdoor stuff! We need a good soaking rain for about 24 hours across the entire western US. Most of the smoke is from states west of here and it’s been like this for days now…and also devastated to hear about the fires up in Jasper destroying all the beauty there. One of my favorite places to have ever traveled to..😭

That’s awful, I think of all the natural beauty too, and the animals and the hardship. We even have smoke in the upper atmosphere here in the Great Lakes, every morning is hazy.

Not sure how far east you are but I know that many areas in Canada are a contributing factor in the smoke. The destruction of wildfire is just horrific. A couple of years ago I was thinking about buying some acreage but really, with fires being so frequent now and the fact that they are left to burn unless infrastructure is in the path…I decided against that option. Just not worth the risk anymore.

What do the Rolling Stones wear? Anything They Want, price no object. We could always wear our most eye-wateringly expensive scent in tribute. Hmm…

Today, though, am in the delightfully non-expensive Cartier eau zest thingy that is fun while it lasts (1-3 hours it seems)

    https://www.interviewmagazine.com/art/rocking-around-the-christmas-tree-with-mick-jagger-and-iman

A campy magazine cover with Jagger and Iman from the seventies … a kind of Christmas office party scene. I keep seeing that he wears Cuir de Russie but I don’t even think I have a sample. But I’m probably more interested in Canetti anyway, having had a bit of a thing for him ( especially his three autobiographies/ memoirs/ essays ) back in the 80s when they came out in Picador editions. I loved Play of the Eyes. I’m wearing one of the $1.50 perfume dupes bought in Jakarta by my husband, the Vanille tobacco one. It’s very greasy , heavy oil but great smelling. Friday here and still tucked up under the duvet, waiting for dawn.

I have never flown Southwest so I have no opinion on the matter. I get obsessive with choosing my seat when I can way prior to departure, if I can. Have you flown Southwest and if you have (or haven’t), what do you think of this policy change?

I have flown SW a few times, I don’t think much about the policy change. Except that I see it as positive or that it makes sense. I like assigned seating and have gotten used to that, so, this gets no gripes from me.

Oh, off topic, I saw the No. 5 L’ Eau teardrop bottle in person the other day, it is absolutely gorgeous. I love it and really want one now lol.

I’ll be flying Southwest next week for the first time in decades (seriously, it’s been so long that Mr. Skal spent about an hour on the phone with CS trying to reconnect to his loyalty account; I haven’t bothered but should, because the disconnect is preventing me from using their app). We have a single, short flight, so although we would like to sit together, it should be fine if we don’t. If I have strong feelings about the planned seating policy change after this trip, I will let you know.

Wearing Diptyque L’eau de Tarocco, one of my most overlooked scents. It’s a lovely orange-centric cologne that doesn’t smell like a cologne. A light overlay of spice, cedar, and a touch of rose keep this grounded. So nice on an overcast, drizzly day. Hopefully, that will all change tomorrow! ☀️
