Wednesday scent of the day 7/24

Posted by Robin on 24 July 2024 98 Comments

It's Hump Day and National Tequila Day. Birthdays: Amelia Earhart, Zelda Fitzgerald, Jennifer Lopez. What fragrance are you wearing?

For the 1976 Stones song Memory Motel, inspired by the motel of the same name in Montauk, I'm in Hermès Eau des Merveilles. (I wanted to be in Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu to match the song's nostalgia, but I can't find it, and maybe I no longer have any.)

Reminder: 7/26 is Mick Jagger's birthday. Scent a Rolling Stones song, or scent the man himself, or do whatever you want with the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I love Acqua Motu, I might have a bottle somewhere, i used to wear lots of CSP scents, like Vanille Banane, Vanille abricot, cristal de musc and the one with milky notes.
I am in Merchant of Venice Tuberosa today!!

I love it too and could swear I have a bottle. At the moment can only find L’eau du Gouverneur & Vanille Banane.

Layering Peony Blush Suede with Wood Sage and Sea Salt.
    I smell really really good.
Today is my last day at the library until September as I am taking a month long leave. I will miss NYPL, but I know the lions will hold down the fort 😉

The Rolling Stones song of the day – Angie – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWRr03VcA-0

I wanted a scent that is pretty and romantic but also a bit sad. Eventually, I chose Goutal Le Chevrefeuille. Many people probably think of it as a happy scent, and it kind of is. But I believe there’s an undertone of melancholy and delicate fragility in it.

Exactly. It is not really sad, kind of quietly happy, without exuberance, or “so happy I could cry” happy. And I think these happy emotions have a bit of sadness mixed in. I hope it makes sense.

    Hello all!

Having a rainy week which is really inhibiting my long walks with Jicky. There was some flooding on my route to my part-time job (where I go to study when the library is closed) that I don’t remember flooding when I lived in the area.

Exam one of two down today. Unfortunately I snoozed for an hour instead of studying but I did still get a B. This next one should be harder but there’s a possibility it will be dropped if I bomb!

I’m in Livre Blanche by Zara, a calming cool musk that’s perfect with the rain. I honestly think this is a repackaging of IUNX Eau Blanche with maybe a bit of a downgrade in materials, but it hits the same notes. It’s like a wikicommons picture versus the real work, but I’m happy to have it!

    Have a great day, everyone!

I haven’t smelled IUNX Eau Blanche but Un Livre Blanc reminds me of IUNX Talc.

The Stones song ‘Gimme Shelter’ immediately came to mind when I saw the CP. “…a storm is threatening”, pretty much sums up things these days. I’m wearing Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and hoping the storm doesn’t come to shore.

I’m enjoying another sample sent to me by fellow NSTer Tulipani – Vetiver Oriental from Serge Lutens, a soft, exotic take on vetiver. I’m a big SL fan, so it’s a real treat to try these unfamiliar (to me) fragrances from the house.

Vanille Banane from my travel spray. As summer as a Pina Colada at a beachside bar watching a beautiful tropical sunset framed by palm trees while listening to steel drums..🍹🌴 🦜

About to go sweat to death because this part time job has morphed into a full-time, (more) drama filled job. Several of the folks I work with are absolutely wonderful people that I will miss when summer is done. Then, there are some others I really wish I could jettison (forcefully!) straight to the moon! That’s the way it goes I guess…

I was thinking of the Nicholas Roeg movie Performance from the late 1960s which stars Mick Jagger as a reclusive rock star who lives in a dilapidated but decadent house ( with Anita Pallenberg and another woman, whose name I’ve forgotten). They’re visited by a gangster who is hiding out and it’s very trippy, with drugs, nudity and cross-dressing. It’s a cool film, about identity – but edgy and intense, and confusing. I’m still wearing Datura Noir which works well. I think SL is a good Jagger match.

Lots of rabbits doing rabbit antics in the graveyard at the moment, saw five yesterday up to mischief that may or may not make people turn in their graves. Definitely a spring thing. And strangely warm, with a foehn wind making it 17C yesterday.

Excellent, and I have never seen that movie. That reminded me of the footage of Jagger in Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo, that got cut from the final film because the movie took too long and Jagger had to leave to go on tour. It is in the documentary Burden of Dreams, which I have not seen in eons and eons but if I was clever I would come up with a fragrance to match.

It’s a busy week for me, having to shuttle my son to camp. Thankfully it’s his only camp this summer, and he’s otherwise quite self-sufficient.

No CP for me, but I have something in mind for Friday and I think the weather will cool enough for it then. Yesterday I wore No 5 l’eau for meetings in the office, and today it’s Infusion de Gingembre.

Yet another day of horrible air quality here. Between the summer ozone, and wildfire smoke from 6 other states plus Canada, it’s gross outside. The sky hasn’t looked right for a while now.

SOTD = back in L’Eau de Chloe (the green one). Thanks to Vee for her detective work on the 2 L’eau perfumes!

Oh the green one! That’s a unicorn now.
I hope the air quality improves.

I hope that firefighters get a handle on all those wildfires. That will help a lot.

The ozone formation is a stubborn issue that Colorado has been trying to get under control for at least 30 years. No one is quite sure what is causing it. The obvious solutions haven’t put much of a dent in the problem.

Are you high up that the bad air seems to converge where you live?

Not high up at all as far as Colorado elevations are concerned. But the prevailing winds blow stuff up against the Rocky Mountains and it has no place to go.

Oh yes, Vee explained very well and was able to answer my question. Enjoy your bottle.
