Tuesday scent of the day 7/23

Posted by Robin on 23 July 2024 122 Comments

It's Tuesday, plus National Vanilla Ice Cream Day and Raymond Chandler’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Thierry Mugler Cologne.

Reminder: 7/26 is Mick Jagger's birthday. Scent a Rolling Stones song, or scent the man himself, or do whatever you want with the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: "While Missoni may be known for its zigzag-clad ready-to-wear, did you know that its Home range offers up equally impressive decor for your abode? Begin your foray into the sleek line-up with this teapot from the Nastri collection." £519 at Harrods in the UK.

    Hello.
    Sotd is LVEB.
I was looking for a new KitchenAid stand mixer and I saw that a shop still carries the gorgeous LE 2022 Design Series pastel green with the copper mixing bowl. I’ve ordered one and I can’t wait till I get to play with it. I love kitchen gadgets.

I had to be quite forcefully dissuaded from buying a stand mixer, but finally had to admit that it might be pointless since I don’t really cook, much less bake. This friend knows me well…

I am more of a Beatles girl, but the Rolling Stones have great songs too.

Today I am scenting Gimme Shelter, which, I am sure, a lot of people will find relatable today.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbmS3tQJ7Os

I thunked Jovoy Gardez-Moi, since it can be translated as “Save Me” or “Guard Me”. Close enough to the shelter theme. Even though it must be named after its main note, gardenia.

    Oh, a storm is threat’ning
    My very life today
If I don’t get some shelter
Oh yeah, I’m gonna fade away

War, children, it’s just a shot away
    It’s just a shot away
War, children, it’s just a shot away
    It’s just a shot away

    ….

    …love, sister, it’s just a kiss away
    It’s just a kiss away

Thank you. Yes, it is not too hot now. Some high temperatures are expected for the weekend, but hopefully this hot spell is not going to be so extreme.

Things are currently better with power. I do not want to say more, since I am afraid to jinx it.

I had a beautiful walk in Central Park this morning.. a little rain and it smelled like earth and fresh cut grass. Very peaceful and quiet in the park.

I will be doing Jo Malone all week since my small stash needs some love.

If JB or Jalapeno is reading, I tried Res Roses yesterday by JM and it was love at first sniff.

Tea is a lavender honey latte from Maman and SOTD is a layer of Wood Sage and Sea Salt with Blackberry and Bay

And another good combination is Peony Blush Suede with Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I love the combinations you can do with Jo Malone. I went down the rabbit hole with her scents years ago. I think my first ones were Orange Blossom Body Cream with Vintage Gardenia Cologne. Now, sadly I don’t have any of those old scents anymore.

It was really hard to head back to work yesterday after a most fun weekend. A true ladies weekend with my mom, aunt, cousin and her daughter/my godchild. Lots of stories and laughs. It has been a year since my uncle left us and my aunt seems to be doing so well. She was in really good spirits, which makes me happy. Already plotting my winter Arizona trip to spend some time with her.☺️

Found a couple of merino tops the other day, but two get one free, so snapped up three. The neutral basic colors were already sold out, dang it, so I ended up with a lavender, a warm pale pink, and a bright pink. If anyone has minimal packing ideas please let me know. I’m doing good so far because I’ve found a single pair of shoes that will work with every situation and they will be on my feet for 16 days straight. 🩰

I think we should have a CP where we scent our respective governments and “leaders” but I guess that would be too political. 😉 I am a Rolling Stones fan in that if they came on the radio, I would generally crank it up. But not a serious fan because I never bought a single album, 8 track, cassette, or CD. Sorry Mick and friends, but I did not contribute to your wealth!

I’ve never had merino anything but it sounds like it would work not only for travel but my lifestyle in general. I thought it would be very labor intensive to wash and dry, but it sounds fairly easy to care for from what I’ve recently read. A political CP would open the Doorway to Deepest Dungeons of Hell I’m sure, but I bet it would be hilarious…😀

The colors are lovely and I don’t mind them a bit, but I was hoping for neutrals because they pair with absolutely anything and are more versatile for minimal packing for a 2 week trip.

I’m on the fence about packing cubes. I’m still researching them but it seems to me there is some valuable real estate that doesn’t get utilized. I’m looking at the compression type cubes now. I’m assuming you’re a fan because they work for you..? Any specific brand you like?

Like Daniel, I’m going with Raymond Chandler. In Farewell my Lovely Marlowe is drugged with a datura based truth serum, and, because Datura Noir has also has that lush but rotting aspect of heady florals left in a vase, in a closed room I’m wearing that. Chandler does amazing descriptions of interiors, they’re almost like Hopper interiors, very visual and I love that aspect of his writing. All the office spaces, or studies in grand houses.

Trying BORNTOSTANDOUT Angels’ Powder today and notes are below. I do get a bit of the nail polish accord in the opening 😉 ehaeheh but it’s very much a gourmand overall. It’s nice but not original. I haven’t been impressed w/ the BTSO line in general from what I sampled…the ones I have tried were synthetic/screetchy. This one I would wear if I found a bottle in my lap but would not buy it for the price.

HEAD – Nail Polish, Pink Pepper Extra Pure, Icing Sugar
HEART – Vanilla Sugar, Raspberry, Cotton Candy
BASE – Heliotrope, White Musks, Gaiac Wood

Smoothie is an avocado today. 23C today, sunshine, very pleasant. I picked Hugo Boss Deep Red, quite by chance my sealed bottle had turned out to be vintage but I don’t know if there are noticeable differences with the current version, anyway I always enjoy it, quite unique and tonight it’s Brecourt Farah, delicious dates and sweet cinnamon, my other dates perfume is Weil Suki Essence, equally delicious.

I tried a current version of Deep Red about a year or so ago. It was recognizable but smelled thin to me. ( from memory of when I wore it back in the day)

Ah, thank you Lillyjo, good to know, recognizable but thinner is very often the scenario these days.

Vintage Deep Red is beautiful stuff. I have a partial bottle of it.

SOTD is a smaple of BDK Tobac Rose which seems like a descent of POAL, execpt that unlit, rich tobacco has been swapped in for 80% of the patchouli. I like it!

Tea today is a thunk of my Fortnum & Mason Countess Grey. Tasty, but another one I probably won’t replace because I have other Greys that I prefer. As I am typing this, I’m realizing that the Earl Grey namesake was probably related to Lady Jane Grey (and wikipedia just confirmed that for me). She has been on my mind lately after reading Wolf Hall and watching Lady Jane Grey on Amazon in quick succession.

I should make some iced Earl Grey tea the next time it gets stinking hot here.

I love Countess Grey. Several times I ran out and thought I would not replace it then ended up getting more 🙂

I’m finding I prefer greys with floral notes (rose or lavender) so their Victoria Grey is more my speed

I’m off today and currently being lazy. I cleaned earlier so I earned it. A few months ago I bought a swifter wet jet and gosh it’s so much easier than a mop and bucket. It feels like cheating.
I’m wearing bbw Coco Paradise. I’m trying to thunk it by the end of summer.

I have all sorts of gadgets (which I haven’t used). A swifter wet jet is NOT one of them, but maybe I should?

It’s so easy to mop now. Plus it seems more sanitary. I recommend it if you hate to mop.

Wearing CSP Vanille Banane layered over Lush Tender is the Night lotion. The lotion was included in one of the Kitchen Exclusive boxes a few months ago, part of the Bridgerton collection. It’s smells mostly of vanilla and yang ylang; I get a light sweet scent so it’s a nice combo with VB.

Thankfully the temps dropped about 10 degrees so it’s much more tolerable. We had some good winds last night blow the heat out.

    SOTD = Dusita Splendiris

Love! I only have a travel spray and I don’t know how much I have left. I will announce when it’s gone, baby, gone. No IG post on this because I came back from a frustrating trip to Whole Foods on a very humid day … so humid I had to change my outfit. Anyway, it all started last Friday when I couldn’t bring up my Prime code. I went to Customer Service and got a courtesy discount. Same thing happened today — neither did Amazon In-Store code work nor did the native Whole Foods work AND THE STORE WAS NOT GOING TO GIVE ME A COURTESY DISCOUNT. I said Customer Service gave me a discount on Friday and what changed over the weekend that they are no longer doing courtesy discounts. Of course they blamed it on the customer service rep, called the manager over, same thing. Finally, one of the CSRs took pity on me and asked if I wanted to use her code instead. Me, I don’t care as long as I got my discount.

I managed to post something on IG:

And Robin, that’s a beautiful teapot! I of course thought about the Missoni x Target collab from a few years ago and thought I could get away with spending $24.99 for it …

The Missoni x Target was my favorite Target collab. I have one of the dresses and I wear it all the time. I also have a gorgeous coat (which unfortunately no longer fits me)

Are you thinking of a full bottle of Splendiris? I have two bottles. They are very reasonably priced on some of the perfume sites. I think under $100.

Not sure if there were 2 versions. If there was, mine is the 2012 version with the silver cap that tarnished quickly.

There is L’eau de Chloe (chartreuse juice, chartreuse ribbon), which I think is discontinued, and Chloe L’eau (baby pink juice, baby pink ribbon). They are different but both are have the Chloe EdP DNA.

Love, Chloe was a solidly made perfume. But it didn’t move me the way L’Eau de Chloe does.

Such a bummer that both perfumes were discontinued.
