Thursday scent of the day 7/18

Posted by Robin on 18 July 2024 98 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also Nelson Mandela International Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm taking (more) points in Annick Goutal Mandragore.

Reminder: 7/19 will be Mint Friday...wear a fragrance with a mint note. Extra points if mint is in the name!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Electric Cherry.
Just saw on Selfridges that Paco Rabanne launched a new exclusive collection of perfumes. Not really impressed by his regular mall offerings but some from this collection sounds quite nice and the bottles look good too.

Today I thunked Serge Lutens L’Eau Froide – a unique blend of frankincense, sea water and mint. I will miss it.

So we had rain yesterday, and even more rain today – it was a real torrential downpour. I saw pictures of some streets of my town filled with water! But I am happy that the weather is already much cooler – still hot, but normal hot, not extreme hot.

L’Eau Froide is fabulous. I will always regret not getting a bottle.

I’m glad for the rain helping tamp your heat.

I’m in Mugler cologne. Just swapped out my empty rain bath shower gel this morning and replaced it with Vitabath spring green, so I smell especially refreshing.
Work has been really busy this week, but I’m taking a half day today and heading north for a long weekend. Staying with my parents and my aunt and cousin will join us tomorrow. My poor dad will be way outnumbered, but he is a good sport. My youngest daughter is on a 24 off break from her summer camp job and at their house as we speak. I’ll get there just in time for a brief visit and take her back to work. I can hardly wait to see her. Wish I could instantly transport myself there and skip the four hour drive!😆

    Hello all!

Going into lab today, not hopefully it’s a short session. I have a quiz to take today’s, as well as the test for my radio dj internship. I’m ready for August!

I was talking about aldehydic florals last night so I went with Superstitious. I would have gotten a back-up if I could have. I think it is simply stunning.

    Have a great day everyone!

Saint Julep for me today. Mint is implied in the name, so extra half points?

Trying to get used to having a house all to myself for two weeks. (Well, the cat does like to make her presence known, especially around mealtimes.) I went to see a local “Shakespeare in the Park” sort of thing last night, and it was nice to be out and about and not trying to cajole a surly teen to come along and be normal. I’ve never seen Hamlet before, so that was fun.

I’m realizing I could go for a hike this weekend, too, and not have to hear complaints about having to leave the teen cave and screens behind. (The funny thing is…Ockeghem Teen is on day 2 of a backpacking / kayaking trip right now, so she’s out and walking. But it’s different when mom makes you do it.)

But now, back to strategic planning for next year at work. I hate this process, because most of it is a BS make-work project that has nothing to do with long-term strategy (propose one of those projects and it’ll get killed) and everything to do with short-term tactics. Fortunately my boss agrees, but we still have to do it. I’ve been procrastinating too long.

Agree on strategic planning being lip service. The “higher ups” have their pet projects which always get approved and if they fail (the project), there’s always some kind of excuse.

    SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDT

On the green = mint train so here I am! I need to wear this more often especially considering how much of this I have!

I love family. I do, no need to convince me. I had lunch with la familia yesterday as my nephew is on leave for a week and my sister had taken the day off. Of course I am still of the notion that I will be unlikely to go on vacation with my sister so there’s that. Not quite the same thing but this WSJ article talks about half a couple wanting to be at the airport 5 hours (not kidding!) before the flight and the other being more spontaneous: (NB: there may be a pay wall.)

I honestly can’t seem to detect any perfumes with mint in my collection. I’d suppose that perhaps or even probably there is mint in something by Zoologist, so I will do another search a bit later in the day.

The air conditioning guys worked until 9 pm last night, and that is a hot and dirty job. They couldn’t quite finish off because we had a huge storm with thunder and lightning and so they couldn’t do the part that involved connecting and starting the rooftop condensers. It was amazing to watch the guy with the big crane just whip those heavy items up and down along my very tall building walls to the roof, which is functionally three stories high. He finished about 15 minutes before the thunderstorm hit, thank goodness. They came back this morning and the upstairs unit is already working–YAY–I can sleep in a cool room tonight! They still have more to do on the downstairs unit which is in a big closet in my kitchen.

Did a bunch of yard work this morning before it got too hot. After, I took a very long, cool shower in one of the unoccupied apartments here. Then, because I’m a broken record, I slathered on wet skin copious amounts of cold, cold Shalimar Body Creme. I now smell like heaven, if heaven had a scent.

    If I was a cat, I’d be purring. 😺

Hi all, it’s been a while. I was away visiting family and friends in Ohio from July 4 – 15. We had a great first two legs of the trip in Northern Ohio and then Columbus, but my partner and I both got covid for the first time the morning of our last day in Columbus. So the last leg of the trip with my family in Dayton was pretty rough. I only left my mom’s house to go to the minute clinic and pharmacy last Friday, the day I felt the worst. I was planning to take paxlovid and got a prescription but the whole ordeal was a comedy of errors. After being seen by the medical assistant at the first minute clinic, she came back in to inform me the nurse practitioner had to leave due to her own medical emergency. So I had to go to a different clinic to see a physician to get a prescription. That took about an hour longer, then I discovered their pharmacy wasn’t in network. So my mom and I called around and found a pharmacy that should have the drug. We get there, I stand in line, and the tech informed me they didn’t in fact have the specific paxlovid I had the prescription for, but they could order it to arrive the next day. I wasn’t feverish the next day and my full body aches had thankfully resolved. I ended up deciding not to go get the prescription after all. Anyway, we had to fly home Monday evening, masked up, of course. That was day 5. I thought my eardrums were doing to explode as the plane was landing. My ears have never hurt so bad. I’m so relieved to be back home and on the mend.

I’m still dealing with nose and chest congestion and general fatigue, but I definitely feel better today than yesterday. I’m so glad I work from home since I started up working again yesterday. I can’t believe we’re going out tonight, but we tickets to see the play Clue before we left on this trip, and I’m not letting those go to waste. Thankfully, we’re well enough to go and will still mask ourselves, of course. We’ll go out to eat on the patio at our favorite Mexican restaurant.

I did fully lose my sense of smell for two days starting on Sunday. That was so weird and a bit scary. On Tuesday I could catch tiny whiffs of certain things like coffee and some Perfumer H samples. Yesterday, I could smell a bit more, and today it’s even better. I put on perfume today for the first time in over a week. I’m wearing Claus Porto Agua Vetiver. I took my CP Aqua series samples on vacation and wore a few of them before I got sick. I think this collection is very well time and should have gotten more attention.

I’m still catching up on NST and am currently reading comments from last Thursday. Hope you’re all well!

It was a long visit as it was, and man, we were holding up ok before this happened. A silver lining was only having to see my annoying sister in law once since we were quite sick. Another bummer was my dad bringing over pizza from a place I grew up eating and loving, but it was on the first day I couldn’t smell or really taste. 😭

I’ll definitely be taking it easy still until I feel completely better. The play was great tonight, but being out for hours wiped me out by the end.

Well drat on the pizza, that’s a shame! but there is always a silver lining, isn’t there?

I had to be really careful both times I recovered covid…I would feel up to something but then wear myself out. So do pace yourself and be careful 🙂

For the CP, YSL Champagne. Once I read on Fragrantica that it had mint, I found that mint in what I’ll say is the powder accord. I love Champagne, so I’m glad to find a new way to sniff it, along with the peach and oakmoss I swoon over.

I picked LL Elle l’aime à la folie for a warmer day than yesterday and my first time wearing it this summer, it’s very creamy with beautiful citrus at the top and a coconutty feel, tonight it’s Lentheric Just Musk EDT which feels plush and cozy.

I think that’s one of the LLs I liked 🙂

Wearing Reglisse Noire because someone mentioned that it has mint💚I’ve been too focused on the licorice note and completely ignored the mint.

That was me who mentioned the mint. Scent twin but I’m going to switch to Calyx post shower

So sad to see that, but it does seem he lived a long, good life. My father ADORED Newhart — it was required watching in my house when I was a kid. Larry, Darryl & Darryl were the best. 🙂

Great sense of humor! We watched many of his shows, even as kids.

I remember watching and enjoying both of his TV series.

Larry, Darryl and Darryl always made my Dad laugh.

Project compliant in Mojito Chypre. Went to a gluten free bakery today and stocked up on snacks for my flight since most things in the airport won’t be open when I get there tomorrow morning.

You are smart, I always end up wandering around the airport trying to find something I can eat!

I have today off so I am sampling. I am currently wearing Chloe Nomade edp on one hand and Roses de Chloe on the other.
I like them both but RdC seems to be turning a little sour on my skin.

Today was Teflon kitty’s first visit to the new vet. And she complained all the way during the short drive over. Tef will never be one of those cats who loves to travel. Everyone at the new vet squeed over how cute and petite Teflon is.

Teflon was happy to get home and have her lunch. 😹

Another cloudy afternoon here. Waiting for potential storms to come thru. But no lightning alerts so far. It’s been rather quiet.

SOTD = commando. Decided that perfume + vet’s office might not be the best combination.

Glad the vet visit went well and that it is only a short drive for Teflon Kitty.

I really like Chloe Nomade! I should get a large decant one of these days.

I hope everyone stayed safe and (somewhat) cool today! I made one of my favorite iced teas: Yerba mate with a big of sugar and a squeeze of fresh lime. Mmmm…😋
I unexpectedly joined the CP today with a sample of Astier de Villate Mantes La Jolie. It begins with a huge blast of top notes, which are mint, basil, and eucalyptus. Wowie zowie, baby, this one almost scared me! Similar to, say, a giant tomato leaf. I bet Robin would like this.
It settles after a while, but I got distracted and didn’t pay much attention to the development. Just now, I dabbed a tiny bit, and the opening was much more restrained, the greenness faded quickly into the background, with fig and a woody jasmine making it all civilized. I quite like this part.
