Tuesday scent of the day 7/16

Posted by Robin on 16 July 2024 97 Comments

It's Tuesday and World Snake Day. Birthdays: Ida B. Wells, Ginger Rogers, Cal Tjader, Anita Brookner, Will Ferrell. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm running late in my DIY scented lotion (Carina Organics unscented lotion + blood orange & ylang ylang essential oils). Tea at the moment is Upton Yunnan Golden Buds organic.

Reminder: 7/19 will be Mint Friday...wear a fragrance with a mint note. Extra points if mint is in the name!

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is real mint tea [cropped, rotated and contrast adjusted] by Ali Edwards at flickr; some rights reserved.

Sotd is LV Myriad. I love it and am happy to find out that it is wearable even during Summer.
Woo Snake Day! I was born in the year of the Snake! Dunno how I can celebrate though. Maybe a packet of gummy wor…I mean, snakes?

Cartier La Panthere Eau Legere thanks to a generous NSTer whom gave me a decant of this awhile back.

It’s hotter than the hinges in hell in NYC today. Stay cool

I’m wearing Shalimar body creme right out of the fridge again today. My container is getting fairly low but at todays “discounted” prices, I don’t think I’ll be repurchasing. So dry here that I think I’m flaking away, skin cell by skin cell…

On a non-perfume note, I got a bunch of packages from the post office yesterday including my Korean skincare/makeup haul. I’ve stocked up on many CosRx things because they are less than half price compared to Ulta. Stoked to try everything!

Has anyone tried the TirTir red cushion? I’m interested in your thoughts if you have because I’m a base junkie…

Also got a letter from the IRS stating I over-paid for my 2022 taxes and a refund would be mailed forthwith. The check was also in my forwarded mail and IMAGINE my excitement! Yep, it was a check all right! For exactly one dollar and forty-six cents! I may be able to buy half a gum ball if I can finagle a deal! 🤣

    Happy Tuesday!

I once got a pay adjustment check for .01. Plus, they mailed it so they had to pay postage to send it. I never cashed it, I framed it and put it on my office wall. I imagined the bean counters trying to balance the account for a long time…

I once received a statement for a credit card that I had paid off showing the payment and the remaining balance of $0.00. All good, right? A month later I got a statement with a stern warning that I had an overdue balance of $0.00 and that I needed to pay it immediately! I figured that the balance probably had a fraction of a cent remainder and somehow the system was not configured properly to round it down.

I decided to play along with them and sent off a check for $0.00. I did not get any further overdue notices.

Not sure about calypso but I bought a bunch of CosRx skincare and some Korean sunscreens because they have a very high SPF with added skincare. Some are chemical sunscreens, which I tend to stay away from because I get very painful breakouts. But, I’ve heard Korean sunscreens are light years ahead of American ones in performance and non-irritating/non-comedogenic, even the chemical ones. Also bought some peptide and retinol products…and some make-up. Trying to find products that do double or triple duty so I can lighten the load in my carry on this fall.

After enjoying the invigorating citrus of “Artisan Pure” (John Varvatos) on Friday, I’m breaking out my bottle of “Dark Rebel Rider.” And you know what? It’s pretty darn good, too. Leather, smoke, gasoline, bitter orange – hints of Guilty Absolute Pour Homme, Ambre Sultan, and Musc Ravageur. It has a lot of big things going on, yet somehow it’s quiet. I don’t want to oversell it; it’s not a masterpiece. But for a mainstream “masculine,” it’s really solid.

    Happy Tuesday, all!

    Hello all!

Robin, I didn’t get to comment over the weekend, but I didn’t quite finish I Love Dollars either. I really enjoyed the title story but it was nuts and probably deserved a better warning. I laughed out loud several times.

Sweating it up in Houston today, wearing Givenchy’s Insense, a straw-colored fougere with a slightly floral heart. Better than most fougere s.

    Have a great day all!

    Humiecki & Graef Eau Radieuse:

    Green banana
    Fresh mandarin peel
    Fresh lemon
    Italian fresh mint leaves
    Rhubarb juice
    Bamboo sape accord

I think this is my most cooling perfume, and I am wearing it on (probably) the hottest day of the year. Or maybe tomorrow is going to be the hottest day? Anyway, the temperatures are expected to go down on Thursday. Can’t wait.

It’s still humid, I am happy I am inside at the office with AC.
I forgot to tell a very nice perfume story. Last week a patient of the clinic I work for brought me two big size perfumes. Whenever she comes in, she smells great so I complimented her a couple of times, she said she is in perfume business and that she will bring me some bottles. Btw, the one she wears is Narciso Ambrée, smells amazing on her.

It’s nasty cold and I had to put my jumper on in bed last night to warm up so I’m tricking my brain with Eau Moheli, for a bit of tropical pleasure. My friend is “ popping over” to Rarotonga next week and I’m feeling quite envious. The Pacific islands are only three hours away from NZ and so tempting at this time of year.

Like AnnieA, I think I’ll save my favorite mint for Friday, though a Fragrantica note search might remind me of something else in the hoard. Yesterday and today I’m in rose garden-mode. Monday was Idole, from a sample and yes, we have a “thunk.” I did not groove to all that pear and candy-sweet stuff going on. But this morning, the rose had mellowed to the kind of musky rose I enjoy. I spritzed on some Rose Barbare for today. Much better opening, a boozy-rose. I don’t remember what happens in the dry of RB, but I don’t think of it as a Guerlain love.

I’m wearing a sample of Fragonard’s Seducteur. It has been sitting on my desk and I am trying to tidy up. It was easier to use it up than to find a home for it (it was one of those scent towelettes that Fragonard uses for samples – too big for my usual sample storage). It is quite nice. Citrus opening following by a lovely nutmeg heart. Simple but well done. Probably better suited for cool, rainy day in spring or fall, but not too heavy for today’s heat.

Mr. Vee tore out a Bleu de Chanel perfume insert from one of his magazines last night and handed it to me saying “you can put this in your locker and stare dreamily at Timothee Chalamet between Math Class and Band Practice” 😂 Meanwhile, if I still had a locker at my gym I probably WOULD stick it on the back of the door as a locker “home” scent (and for TC)!

Tea today is chocolate supreme from the Philly Nut Head. Yummy.

I’m back from Santa Fe and a very good trip there, with friends, good conversations and presentations, bits of cool weather (mainly in the mornings), scenery, shopping, and interesting art museums. I didn’t find any perfumes there (didn’t really look) but bought some palo Santo incense sticks I haven’t tried yet.

Today I’m back to the heat and humidity of Houston but the HVAC company has promised to come first thing tomorrow and work on replacing my air conditioners. It will make such an improvement!

There is nothing more satisfying than a good deal! I feel the same way about my Korean skincare and makeup haul- so much for so little. These days, it’s a rare thing. I hope those snow boots keep your little piggies warm and toasty this winter! ❄️

Got Robin-approved temperatures here today! I think the high was 87 or so. But very unsettled skies and plenty of lightning alerts on my cell phone. More of the same is in store for tomorrow.

Had a Jury Duty notice in the mail this afternoon. For New Jersey! Not happening, I think.

SOTD = Baby Phat Golden Goddess EdP. It’s a bit sweet for me this time. Maybe I need to wait for even cooler weather now for it.

I’m supposed to get alerts on my phone but it only works about half the time.

Some of my weather apps are set to “Silent Update” because they were annoying me with Too Much Information.

But my phone will scream if there is a Tornado Warning in effect.

Got a massage on Sun that involved hot towels, ashiatsu, massage with something mentholated, Thai massage stretches and maybe even some stones so I inadvertently complied with the project. Today I’m deliberately project compliant in Vine Street from Soivohle.

Will be in NY this weekend and will hopefully get some sniffing in. I’ve got a seminar on Sat and Sun but maybe I can go sniffing after I land on Fri or before I depart on Mon
