Tuesday scent of the day 7/9

Posted by Robin on 9 July 2024 170 Comments

It's Tuesday and National Sugar Cookie Day. Birthdays: Oliver Sacks, Tom Hanks. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Hermès Eau de Pamplemousse Rose.

Reminder: on 7/12, we're doing Cologne part 2: wear a modern citrus-based cologne. (If it helps start you off, see 5 perfumes: (great) new wave summer colognes.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Hypnôse. I just love the purple shade of the juice. Seems like nobody wears this anymore these days. I will be sad if it’s ever discontinued.
I am currently enjoying a thick slice of carrot cake that I made yesterday. Some things taste better the day after and carrot cake is one of them. Oh I also frosted it verrrry generously and it’s great. As a carrot cake purist, I usually don’t put anything else in it other than the occasional nuts; no raisins, no coconut and no pineapple.

Good morning, all! Back from a wonderful week in Canada, where the extended family gathered at a lovely lake house on Lake Memphrémagog. Amazingly, there were NO mosquitoes; maybe we simply lucked out, or maybe the lakefront community had sprayed some sort of powerful (but undetectable) insecticide that will probably shorten all our lives. Either way, no bug repellant was necessary.😳

I’d brought a generous handful of travel size perfumes, and two seemed to fit the woodsy locale better than others: Interlude 53 from Amouage, and Trayee from Neela Vermeire. There’s nothing “Canadian forest” about either, but the smoke and leather of the Amouage worked beautifully, especially around the campfire while toasting marshmallows for S’mores, and the warm spices in the Vermeire were appropriately cozy. (My daughter and my nieces LOVED Trayee.)

Last night I had a “perfume dream,” if you can call it that. I was wearing Lagerfeld for Men – that’s the only detail I remember, but it was vivid. No context, no reason, no explanation, but I swear I could really smell it. At any rate, my scent of the day has been selected by my subconscious. Happy Tuesday!

    Mugler Cologne today.

I also participated yesterday in Atelier Cologne Grand Neroli (morning) and Hermes Un Jardin sur Le Nil (afternoon).

I don’t know if you heard, guys… Yesterday we had a massive attack resulting in the damage to Ohmatdyt in Kyiv, the biggest children’s hospital in Ukraine. Apart from the people killed and injured (including children), they had to move some very sick children (for example, with cancer) elsewhere. We can only hope their condition has not worsened and they get the help they need. I am following an anesthesiologist from Ohmatdyt on Instagram, and she posted some really heart-breaking pictures.

Jalapeno, thank you for the tip with washcloth. I tried today with the frozen towel – it is really cooling.

I’m deeply sorry to hear about the attack on Ohmatdyt in Kyiv. The impact on such a vital institution, especially one dedicated to the care of children.
My thoughts are with the victims and their families, and I hope the displaced children receive the urgent care they need. The resilience and dedication of the medical staff in such circumstances are incredibly admirable.

Today I’m wearing Songes to match the lovely weather outside. On the makeup front, my contact at Chanel mentioned they’re reformulating some of their foundations, and sadly, Vitalumiere Aqua, my favorite, will be discontinued. Guerlain has also reformulated my face cream, and after trying several samples, I’ve decided to commit to a full jar.

Later, we’ll be watching the Euro Cup—I’m cheering for Spain, while my kids are rooting for Kylian Mbappé.

I’m currently immersed in a Viking “Romantasy” novel and watching Vikings on Netflix, so I’m being transported to another era through both 🙂 Also, for the library, reading the Fire Next Time by Baldwin.

When we lived in Houston years ago, my husband was roofing with another guy in August, just unbearably hot. The other guy gets a phone call from his wife, she was checking to make sure the dog was inside because it was so hot – no word about how he was holding up on the roof! We still chuckle over that one.

They were supposed to finish today, but they didn’t, and I don’t mind at all…or at least, I wish they were done (really, I wish I didn’t need a new roof, it was yet another in a series of unpleasant old house surprises!) but I am glad they seemed to be taking lots and lots of breaks.

          • Robin says:
            9 July 2024 at 9:56 pm

And to clarify…I have a small house and you could probably roof it in a day, but it needed major work to soffits / fascia // all that crap plus there were 2 layers of shingle that had to come off.

Still warm here but not as hot as some other places so I’m grateful for that. I wore Bronze Goddess yesterday. Working alone today so I have the ability to really pile on a stinker but just not in the mood. Corsica Furiosa is always great when it’s >80F, so that what I’m going with.

I got out of the grocery store yesterday under $120! I hate having to download these stupid grocery store apps and give them my email but it ended up saving me $35 so I can’t complain, but I’m still going to! Whatever happened to paper coupons?! Or just having stuff “on sale” for REAL? Anyway, I bought some fixings to make a couple of small 5” “No Bake” cheesecakes, one for me and one for my neighbor/co-worker. I found a recipe that’s fantastic, so I’m looking forward to surprising them. ☺️

BTW, that header photo is GORG! Love the intensity of color!

I am sampling today, Unum Laschia Ch’io Pianga. Barbra Streisand sang it on her classical album and I was interested in a fragrance with the name. It’s a BWF, sweet, and not very complex. Just big.
It’s the third day of triple digit heat and I am running out of things to do indoors. I’ve rearranged the kitchen utensil drawer, swapped out the last of the compact fluorescent bulbs for LEDs, read two books, and hemmed the new living room curtains. I want to go outside without gasping!

It’s hot here too, and I’m wearing You or Someone Like You which seems to be my number one hot weather scent. It’s got a similar vibe to Herba Fresca which was my signature scent for my 20s. I don’t want to wear Herba Fresca anymore (too many memories), but I like wearing its cousin.

About to make pizza sauce and take a nap. I have zero ambition to accomplish anything on hot days.

I’m away from home , in Christchurch, as I have to do a talk later in a bookshop but yesterday I visited the former home of detective novelist Ngaio Marsh. She lived in the same house from 1907 ( when she was around ten) to her death in the 1980s and it is a small, cosy, wood panelled house on the hills overlooking the Canterbury plains to the southern alps. She was quite a character, very fond of theatre and directed many plays , having big theatrical parties at her house. She was 5’10” , wore berets, and drove jaguars. On her dressing table were three bottles of perfume Dior Dioressence ( in box), a half bottle of Chanel 5 EdC, and another I couldn’t recognise. I would have loved to try them. She also had beautiful Hardy Amies gowns in silk crepe, bias cut. I also saw her Poe award, very cute, that was posted out from the US when she won. The house had a great vibe. Wearing Coco Mademoiselle. Cold, with the heat pump blasting away as I sit in my sleeping bag on the couch.

Will pour over her wikipedia page and pick out a novel to read…thanks again for sharing and good luck w/ your book tour. 🤗

I remember reading all of the Inspector Allyn books in the ’80s, I think. After I finished Rex Stout but before Christie. I should re-read them, they were good.

Nice, although the 8 sprays did not last but it could be because of the Jersey humidity – my A/C works and yet I am sweating like a 🐷.

My friend with pancreatic cancer passed a way this past Sunday afternoon, may she rest in peace. It was about 14 months from diagnosis to her death. She was accepted to a clinical trial for oral chemo and within 3 days, she suffered a stroke. Her speech was garbled although one of our friends understood her. Perhaps I shouldn’t be shocked but pancreatic cancer is a cruel disease, as some here know. We are having a novena for her for nine days. Even though I am not Roman Catholic, I have joined and will continue to do so until the end. I’ll save the rant about my donation to some other day.

I’m in Room 1015 Sonic Flower from a sample. Anyone else cave to the recent email from luckyscent for free shipping *even* samples? I did.
I’ve read a ton of reviews online comparing this to glossier you so I had to try it. I can vouch that it is indeed very similar to my nose. Maybe more feminine, and very pretty. It also is available in a travel spray so I already have one in my cart over on luckyscent. I asked myself if I really need it if I already have You, but I asked the same thing with Tam Dao and 10CC and I have both of those, so I guess that’s my answer.😉

Hello everyone, we had a bad storm here as you may know and it was a lot scarier than the forecast. Wind was very bad and brought down many trees and tree limbs. My house leaked. I lost power for about 8 hours and felt lucky it came back on as over 1 million are still without power. My friend is here to cool off and charge her devices. I don’t think I can stand to live here much longer.

My SOTD is Perris Monte Carlo Ylang Yang. Not cologne but pretty.

I feel like a kid on a snow day. Took off from work early to get an injection at my physician’s office and after rushing all the way over there, I found the office had closed early due to loss of internet, probably due to some effects of Beryl. I was a little miffed that no one notified me, maybe short on phone service.

I have LONG begged my physician to let me do my own subcutaneous injection every 6 months and she always refused because she wants it documented that I got it. Today, I was so annoyed I gave myself the injection and it took just a few minutes, unlike the usual process of sitting in the waiting room for up to 2 hours for the exact same thing. And I am paying for my own medicine (quite a lot, actually) so shouldn’t she trust me?

I could play the card that I myself have a medical degree but in reality it is an easy thing that anyone can do after watching YouTube. I started a log with all my injections in case she asks. I think I am going to keep doing it myself until she complains. I bet she won’t even notice.

Wearing a sample of Escándalo from Day Three. I love the gorgeous green fruity opening but more mundane when it dries down. I have nothing like this so that alone might sway me. The discovery set is so nice I really want to find something I want.

That’s ridiculous! The office can charge a fee to your insurance which is why they want it given in office. Absolute hassle to make an appointment and drive there, then wait.. I hope you don’t have any co-pay! If she’s concerned you’re not compliant she can draw an annual blood level, which should be done anyway. I’ve been giving myself IM injections monthly for YEARS. I get an annual blood test to make sure my level is therapeutic. And iirc you’re a nurse, so why would they ever insist on you having to come into the office? Sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me.

Now I am going to make dinner and clean the kitchen again. It’s like I am cleaning for unexpected company. Lol.

I try not to ice injuries like that for a couple of reasons: 1) Ice usually hurts more than the ouch, and 2) not icing actually helps healing faster.
