Tuesday scent of the day 7/2

Posted by Robin on 2 July 2024 146 Comments

It’s Tuesday, World UFO Day, and the second day of National Ice Cream Month. Donatella will be stopping by tomorrow! Birthdays: Thurgood Marshall, Larry David, Jerry Hall. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Acqua di Parma Colonia. Tea at the moment is a random Assam from an Upton sample.

Reminder: on 7/5, we're doing Cologne part 1: wear a classic citrus-based cologne. (If it helps start you off, see 5 perfumes: (great) old school summer colognes. Next week we'll be doing modern citrus-based cologne.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Summer Citron teapot ("Two large white bees are embossed on both sides of the basket-weave designed teapot, while a colorful bee flits between two lemon-laden branches.") is $37 at Simpson & Vail.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Guerlain Florabloom Forte.
Imagine an afternoon tea setting. The table decorated with flowers of pink, lavender and white. Roses, violets and tuberoses, all giving off their spellbinding fragrances and yet, not one overpowers the others. Being served today are fresh, juicy and succulent mangoes, so ripe that the flesh is a rich golden orange. The taste is almost like honey. Next to the fruit is a small ramekin of coconut crème brûlée, with the sugar just caramelized to a faint golden shell; enough to give a satisfying crack when tapped but not too much to develop even a hint of bitterness. Will you care to join me?

I like to do a whole themed week but I definitely don’t have five old-school colognes, so I’m saving that for Friday and wearing just whatever. Today I’m in Halston Catalyst for Men, a big ambery oriental heavy on the cloves. A cloverdose, if you will.

I’m in FM Bigarade Concentree. I ordered a handful of summer colognes to sample and this is both the favorite and the longest lasting of the bunch.

Guess who forgot to set their alarm and overslept by 15 minutes?🙋‍♀️ Fortunately I live with an early bird who was already up drinking coffee and came and tapped me on the shoulder, “don’t you have to work today?” Um yes! It’s amazing the difference 15 minutes can make. Luckily it was only that and not an hour. It started raining before sunrise and I guess it just lulled me into a deep sleep. We’ll see if my dad’s old adage of rain before 7, done by 11 holds true, it’s really coming down. Shocking, we’ve hardly gotten any rain this summer.😜

I’m wearing Eau Sans Pareil from Penhligon’s. I don’t have many older colognes, so I am just wearing what I find. This one is a decant, but I just found out it is discontinued. Not a great scent, but quite enjoyable. I have yet to find a full bottle worthy Penhaligon’s scent.

I wish I’d bought the Olivia Giacobetti version of Hammam, which might have been called Elixir (too lazy to look it up). I think that’s the only one I’ve ever thought FBW.

Another late evening, but not as bad as last week. Those late-nite happy hour specials are turning out to be a hit with folks. I am currently typing this on 4 hours’ sleep. My day off today so I can nap later when it’s nice and quiet. Scent yesterday was Glass Blooms. Pretty, powdery floral.

Does Fiori de Capri count as a citrus cologne- the description on the website says there is a hint of lemon in there. Me, I get flowers, carnation and lily of the valley… I love this scent!

Goutal Eau du Sud. Does it count as a classic eau de cologne?

I am trying to adjust to a heatwave without a/c. An electric fan, water spray, several showers and drinking plenty of water helps. At least it is a cloudy day today.

They turn off electricity for longer periods of time now. And half of the time there is no running water when there is no electricity. Plus, today I read that Ukraine might default in a month.

Glannys, I love Eau de Sud – it’s both beautiful and interesting. The British beauty Blogger describes it as explosively feminine, and I’d agree. Of course then she said it was also fit for anyone to wear, which I also agree with lol.

At any event-I’d love to smell something like this on someone else. No one here wears fragrance.

Oh yes, we have large bottles for drinking (enough for at least a few days), a big lidded bucket with boiled water and also we store some unboiled tap water, just for light washing. We have reserves thankfully.

I am so sorry to hear that you are dealing with a heatwave sans A/C and sometimes running water. Horrible situation.

A trick my brother used when he didn’t have A/C (long story) was to wet a washcloth, wring out the excess water, and freeze it. Then he could use it to cool down later. I don’t know if this would help you at all or not.

Started Classic Cologne Week yesterday in Eau Sauvage at bedtime, and this morning I’m in the very lovely but fleeting Chanel Eau de Cologne. I’m not sure if Paris-Deauville would be considered a “classic” just yet, but to me it fits well into the esthetic. And those three just about round out all the colognes in my collection that qualify as classics, other than Cristalle edt (which may actually be considered a classic chypre but in its current form is really more of a cologne to my mind).

I am wearing Jacomo Art Collection #9, a summer fruit extravaganza with some cinnamon in the base. Heavy on the mango. There’s a heat wave coming on Thursday through Sunday, temps at 100F. I’m getting stuff done outside now and will stay inside during the worst of it.

I’m on day three of Yoga with Adrienne and if this is day three I will be a hurting puddle of goo by day 10. But hurting in a good way, I suppose, moving in ways I don’t do every day and stretching muscles that need stretching.

Don’t think I have any cologne…but in the sprit of summer and heat and being totally over 85+ temps, I’m wearing Ninfeo Mio. Again. About a kajillion sprays a là hajusuuri. I’m working alone today (except for doggo) so I went all out. I’m a walking scent bomb, or as bombastic as NM can get…

In non-perfume news, I have been struggling with red, chapped, and occasionally painful redness on my face. I’ve been working a while on fixing my skin barrier and decreasing or omitting irritating facial products which has helped. But then I started having some issues with pimple like bumps that just would not go away with lingering redness that was difficult to cover even with make-up. I struggled with rosacea when I was in my 20’s and had to go on antibiotics and use an antibiotic face cream. But, it takes forever to get in with derm MD’s plus I have no insurance at the moment. Anyway, started doing some research from reputable sources and found out that ivermectin (!) cream has an off label use for rosacea. It comes in a 1% Rx strength that is cost prohibitive, which is why it rarely gets prescribed. Found out that the OTC 0.5% works for many people just as well. Ordered a tube of cream a couple of weeks ago and already such an amazing difference! Bumps are GONE, redness ALMOST gone and it only cost me about $25. Total time for maximum results is 2-3 months, but I’m thrilled with the results so far! If I can avoid antibiotics in any form, and still get excellent efficacy for a small dollar amount, I’m a fan! 😌

Waving a BIG HELLO to apsara and pl67- miss you two! ❤️

OMG—I must try out this cream! If you have a link, I would be grateful. I’ve finally tamed my rosacea by limiting my skincare to no face wash (only Bioderma micellar water), one particular serum, and a thick Bioderma body/face eczema cream, but this could be a game changer. I’ve struggled with my skin for years between this and SD and skin allergies.

You can get it from Walgreens or Walmart, but before using I would make sure you KNOW it’s rosacea and not some other type of skin issue or a mixture of issues. I felt confident using it because I’ve been diagnosed with rosacea in the past and this presented the same way. Here’s a link to a study:

        https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/998076?form=fpf

This is regarding the Rx strength (1%), the OTC strength is 0.5%. Do your research because I’m not diagnosing or condoning use of anything. I’m not a doctor. I’m just an average Josephine. That’s my disclaimer. 😅

I lucked out and am gaining some points today: SoTD is heavily spritzed Perfumer H Gold. I had wanted more lemon when buying it (preloved) blind, but I find myself deliberately reaching for it more and more and more as summer deepens. It bloomed on my walk this morning and filled the air around me with juice and balsams. This is going to be a fun week. I think my Eau Chic will get quite a workout, too.

Went for Paris-Deauville before I knew this week’s CP. I’d say it’s project-adjacent. I really go back and forth on this one — last summer I was ready to give it away, and this summer, I’m enjoying it and wearing it often. Aging (mine? The bottle’s?)? Hormones? Still recovering my sense of smell? Who knows.

Cloudy here and waiting on the rain. Because of the holiday I get an extra day off this week. Today is my second one and I am being lazy. My sotd is LVEB Crystal Soliel, layered with bbw Tropidelic body products.

You smell great! I have the Tropidelic hand cream. See my comment below. I got over to the EL sale last night. I realized I was out of my favorite Swiss Performing Extract face lotion, so I tossed a travel spray of Paradise Moon in my cart, too! Thanks again for thinking of me!

Scent of the day EL Radiant Mirage, for the patchouli. (Lillyjo’s enabler badge is on the way for a travel spray of Paradise Moon 🙂 ) I was discombobulated most of last week, due to the big windstorm that hit our area. I think some of you got some of the storms, too. No one was injured in our county, thankfully. Our power was out from 4:00pm Tuesday until 1:00pm Friday! By day two, most of the power around town was back, so we could eat out. The weather brought a cool front, so that was nice. But we did have some minor, outside, roof damage from several big, downed branches. There was a lot of clean up in the yard and garden, too. All is well, but it was the wildest storm I’ve ever seen – official measure of straight lines wind in excess of 70mph. Ha, of course I was right in the middle of doing a huge load of towels, but at least a friend had room for all our freezer and fridge stuff. I did have fun with my old stovetop percolator – I used the fondue pot base and a sterno can for heat to make our coffee. Off to catch up on comments.

    Smoothie is two peaches instead.

I chose Magie today, it’s too cool for a cologne. I’ve always favoured Magie over Magie Noire, although I might get MN, my Magie is vintage and I also have the collection version which lives next to its sister Cuir de Lancôme. Tonight I’m wearing Dolce Vita I’m finishing a bottle.

I have some quite light perfumes, but nothing that would qualify as a cologne – I gravitate towards perfumes with more oomph.
Since we’re in our coldest month, the more oomph the better, so today I’m wearing TF’s Noir de Noir.

This week’s CP should be easy, I have plenty of colognes.

My SOTD however is not a cologne, but the wonderful Ella by Arquiste, one of those (slightly) filthy but beautiful scents. Have we ever done those?

Pretty sure I don’t have any classic citrus colognes. That is a challenging scent category for me. I do have a couple of neo-citrus/modern citrus scents, though.

Got my latest purchase from Zara today, which is a day earlier than originally scheduled. I am not upset about that. 😅😉 Parfait d’Orchidee is a boozy vanilla with a hint of spice, based on my initial sniffing. No floral notes that I notice. But it may evolve over time. Have not tried it on skin yet.

SOTD = commando, but wearing a combination of Dame Perfumery Orange Flower body butter and Josie Maran Topless Tangerine body butter in the usual spots. I cringed typing “Topless Tangerine”. 😖😖

I don’t have any classic colognes, including citrus ones; my choice in lieu of that was Azemour les Oranges. It’s citrusy, at least! It’s 97 today with a heat index of 105, and I’m still coping with my blinds drawn and fans until my new a/c’s can be installed (and paid for).

Yesterday was my brother’s birthday, and a sad day for me. These kinds of anniversaries are painful, but I tried to think back to better times.
