Tuesday scent of the day 6/11

Posted by Robin on 11 June 2024 126 Comments

It's (Teapot) Tuesday. Birthdays: Ben Jonson, Julia Margaret Cameron, Jacques Cousteau, Gene Wilder, Hugh Laurie. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am on vacation and already behind on reading comments, but I will catch up! Meanwhile, I'm wearing an unscented lotion that I have doctored with sweet orange and ylang ylang oils, and tea this morning is a hot latte.

Reminder: 6/14 will be Roulette Friday! Devise a game of chance to choose your fragrance of the day. Suggested by AnnieA.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: I found this image on Pinterest and am not 100% sure of the correct attribution, but I think it is a teapot by Donald Clark, and you can see another example of his work at the Asheville Art Museum.

No SOTD today as I will be traveling back to the U.S. from Reykjavic. All good things must come to an end and hopefully, the feelings will continue!

I have a lot of things to catch up on, not the least of which is completing the cruise survey. There were more good things than things that can be improved for sure. Also, for the first time, I don’t have work to worry about – yay me!

See you all later this week!

I pre-selected the week’s scents (starting yesterday) with, if not exactly a game of chance, a randomizer. I arranged my 16 Serge Lutens scents (excluding Chergui, which I just don’t like any more and must swap away) alphabetically, numbered them 0 to 15, and for each day of the week tossed a coin four times to generate a random four-digit binary number (heads = 1, tails = 0) which would represent one of the 16 decimal numbers. (Because I used to be a programmer and that’s how we think.)

Today is Un Bois Vanille (1111 = 15), probably the most conventionally appealing Lutens but SO beautiful, so rich and plush. I’ll never get tired of it.

I dunno — strange, isn’t it? I liked it enough to buy it lo these many years ago but in the last few years I just find it aggressively cloying. It should check all the boxes but it’s become a scrubber and I really don’t think it’s changed, I think I have.

Hello-another fantastic teapot image! I have green jasmin tea for later-coffee for me, right now.

Hot and sunny already here, so I’m in L’eau de L’artisan, from L’artisan Parfumeur. I made sure to get some on the tips of my hair and my shirt collar to help it last but I don’t find this scent to be fleeting.

Hope everyone has a good day!

So it’s Hugh Laurie’s birthday? He’s my celebrity doppelgänger, apparently. I don’t see it, but I’ve been asked (by strangers) many times, “Are you that guy from House?” Perhaps someday there’ll be a project that requires someone to play Mr. Laurie’s brother, and I’ll have my moment in the sun.

Feeling warm and spicy in a dab of KL from Lagerfeld.

It’s always so funny when people come up to someone and ask if they’re them/ related. Such an awkward situation. At least you can console yourself in that Hugh Laurie is relatively attractive?

That’s a good one, both the masculine and feminine.

Oh I think Hugh Laurie is quite appealing, so I’m flattered by the comments.😊 I do feel bad telling the inquirers that they’ve not had a celebrity sighting.

When I let my whiskers get scruffy, I can sort of see a resemblance to the “House” character at his most haggard moments.

So, Happy Birthday, Hugh! You’re famous enough to have people think they’ve spotted you on the street when in fact they haven’t.😎

That is all so funny! I still “see” Hugh Laurie in my mind as the very young Wooster and tend to forget that to most people he is House. We are close to the same age so no surprise I see his younger self in my. mind, ha…

Saw my first baby Pronghorn yesterday! An exact copy of mama only smaller. He zipped away so fast I couldn’t get a photo, but trust me when I say he/she was absolutely adorable!

There was no luck, coincidence, or any type of chance this morning when I picked up my bottle of Fils de Dieu. It’s been a while, and this is a scent that works equally well in hot weather as it does on frosty days. My bottle is half gone…

Had a very restless night but remember waking up from a dream about Tom Cruise straight out of Top Gun. Can’t remember now what it was about except he was very cocky and risking the lives of people on the ground, which I took exception to. I had to remonstrate him, which HE took exception to! We didn’t part friends and that’s all I remember. 😎

Sotd is Vetiver Tonka. If Hermes ever discontinues this I’d throw a huuuge tantrum, in store.
Still on holiday so my cp game is spread my few perfumes on the bed randomly, close my eyes, point and see what I get.

I just received a mini Twilly Eau Poivrée in the mail, and that’s what I chose. I’m trying to find some other notes that I like that are not green notes (galbanum), and I’m starting with pepper. Anyway, i like this well enough, although having started out peppery it has changed into a vaguely floral scent. We’ll see where it ends up.

I don’t know if Hermes still makes Poivre Samarcande, but that’s another pepper to try. I mostly like it layered with light florals.

    Hello everyone!

I’m in a light spritz of Nerolia Vetiver Harvest, with its detectible honey note. It just screams summer, and reminds me of my cross-country road trip last year when I first tried this one.

I’m doing homework for my statistics class. It’s asynchronous online, so other than the tests, I can do it at my pace. Unfortunately, the only content provided is homework and the ebook. There are no lecture videos, PowerPoints, nada. Luckily this stuff isn’t too hard at the moment but I’m pretty annoyed.

    Have a great day everyone!

In a summer class, getting behind is a killer. Especially here, where the homework is the only way I’m learning anything. But I will say, it took me about ten years to start doing homework!

I’m honestly very curious what the school actually guarantees for this format. I just got out of his voluntary Zoom meeting (once a week, for an hour), which is just asking for questions, not lecturing. He actually told us to look up videos on youtube if we get stuck. And not particular ones, or from a certain creator….

Had a funny experience at the weekend as I found a first edition, with dust jacket, of a 1963 James Bond hardback in the op shop ( thrift shop). Cheap. Bought it and when I got home started checking it out. First: dust jacket not clipped ( good), true first edition ( not a later imprint, good), typo on page 41 ( proof of real first edition ( excellent). On eBay a bunch of these are in the $10 000 price range ( excellent!). It’s not signed ( therefore not $30000). Heart flutters at my good fortune. And then…. Had to happen… a page falls out. Arrgh ( bad!). Nasty sellotape repair, and loose binding at back of book ( extremely bad!). Price drop of approx. $9500-$10000 ( I think). Suspicious abrasion on inside front cover (bad!). Could it have been a library book? ( disaster! Though no stamps). So I reckon it’s probably worth about $150, but who would I sell it to? Still, it kept me entertained as I did the research. Wearing Lost Cherry, which sounds like the kind of tacky name given to a woman in a James Bond movie.

This is such a great story, not least the Bond reference in the perfume name. I think in one of Graham Norton’s shows Bond girl names were discussed. It was the one with Javier Bardem, Daniel Craig and Dame Judi Dench. Apparently there are rules about finding a name for a Bond Girl.

This was not random – my hand went straight to that new bottle of box of eels.

Ha, today was inadvertently a fragrance roulette day, of sorts. Started with a base layer of Tiare-scented Monoi, then some Orange Gelée on top of that, then topped that off with green tea Alba sunscreen, and now I smell… good? Hopefully? But mostly like a girl set up for non-sunburny fieldwork success? I was in the mood for Terracotta, but I’m already a scent cacophany so I’ll defer that one until tomorrow. 🙂

It’s very yummy, but also — to quote David Lindley — very, very greasy.

Commando until now for a couple of appointments today, but now freshly dabbed in PdN Kiss Me Intense from my latest NST exchange. Hmm, I know nothing about this. Nice, musky, floral is what I’m getting. Now to go look it up and see how far off base I am…. 😁

My SOTD was not random today as I had decided I was going to wear Fox in the Flowerbed since I haven’t worn it much this year.

I’m wearing Angel Iced Star this morning. Lillyjo wore it last year and it sounded so good for summer that I bought a bottle. No luck sniffing any Zara perfumes yesterday, they weren’t in the store. Maybe in a few months.

I’m in Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic from a sample.

Still waiting patiently for my Livre Blanc delivery. Tracking says a “Dangerous Goods Discrepancy – resolution in progress”. That was early this morning. It’s definitely been a challenging day; we have my hubby’s parents staying with us. We are looking after them for 3 weeks; we’re on day 11.

Haha! It’s true. There’s lots of passive manipulation that’s been gotten away with for much too long. We’re just seeing it 24/7 rather than the short visits we usually have.

I sort of assume it is not a working teapot? That is, that you might best never get it wet?

      But I love it too.

    Enjoy your vacation, Robin! 🏖️

Getting some errands done this afternoon. Made sure to gas up the car, since my brother has an endoscopy scheduled for tomorrow morning. I’m his ride to and from the hospital.

Another errand was to check out the Vacation EdP at ULTA. A couple of sniffs from the tester confirmed that it is a dead ringer for Smell Bent’s discontinued St. Tropez Dispenser Gold. So if anyone is having FOMO over missing that, there is a smell-alike.

Kris: The latest temptation from Zara is another of the Jo Malone scents, Parfait d’Orchidee. I’ve seen a couple of descriptions on Fragrantica comparing it to Prada Candy. I do take the info there with a grain of salt.

SOTD = perspiration and Bliss’ Grapefruit & Aloe body butter on my shins. Kinda warm out there! 🥵

        Nope!

The only perfumes I have ever really noticed a vinyl smell in were several of the Marc Jacobs scents, like Lola and Dot.

Haven’t grabbed that Zara yet. Got distracted by something I saw in the local outlet mall over the weekend. I’m trying to let my credit card cool off a bit.

I wonder if Ulta has a tester of the Vacation Orange Gelee or if you have to just buy a tube to smell it.

The ULTA I went to didn’t have the Orange Gelee. It seems to be only at the bigger stores.

I picked up Vacation’s Classic Whip sunscreen mousse. It’s in a miniature whipped cream can, right down to the red cap. Haven’t tried it yet.

Hello, perfume peeps! I had a long weekend at a Galveston beach house and got back late Sunday afternoon. I brought a sample of Mandarine Basilic for when we weren’t at the beach. It was very relaxing; really felt like we unplugged. There was almost no phone signal on the west end of the island, so that helped! 🏖

Wore Orange Soleia yesterday to continue the vibe. I’m in HdP 1826 today. Another one I should wear more often! 😆

I like it a lot! It doesn’t have the green note that Mandarine Basilic has, but it’s fresher somehow, and I mean that in a good way. 🍊

I was at home most of today, so I wore many perfumes. I also randomly sprayed some others in the air, to make sure they are still ok. They are!
    I am currently wearing Knowing.
