Wednesday scent of the day 6/5

Posted by Robin on 5 June 2024 115 Comments

It’s Hump Day, plus World Environment Day and National Veggie Burger Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

In honor of Prince's own fragrance, 3121, I went floral today...Ormonde Jayne Frangipani Absolute.

Reminder: 6/7 is Prince Rogers Nelson aka Prince aka The Artist's birthday. Scent a Prince song, or do whatever else you like with the theme.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Not even going for a theme this week, just wearing whatever. Today I’m in Givenchy Very Irresistible For Men, which is a bit of greenery up top and then mostly hazelnut coffee, absolutely delectable. Discontinued, of course, and bottles are going for north of $400 on EBay. With this wearing I’ve emptied my mini so I guess I’ll never smell it again, but it was nice while it lasted.

After a cool, peppermint shower I’m wearing Un Jardin Sur le Nil just because I love it.

I’m in L’artisan Histoires d’Oranger, which I love. It’s an EDP that wear close to the skin. I have the shower gel, too, and I put a small amount into a container for my washroom at work. Makes hand washing extra special. Funny the tiny little things that brighten a day, sometimes.

It’s going to be another hot and humid one today so I’m in Chanel Deauville.
I caved last night when I got home from work and turned the air on, it was just too muggy.

I got my baby up for school today for the very last time. Ever. I don’t know if it’s because she’s the third kid or what but we’ve just never gotten out of the habit of me waking her. I get out of the shower and poke my head in her room and tell her it’s time to get up. When she was little I would actually crawl in bed next to her and snuggle for a minute.🥹 It has become so much a habit in fact that last year I was gone once and she slept right through! My other half just got up left for work and forgot to wake her lol. She ended up texting me at like 10 am “I just woke up, what should I do?”
Um, get dressed and go to school!🤣

I’m in Boucheron Jaipur Homme EdP, so I feel like I’ve just stepped out of an elegant barbershop on Jermyn Street. The citrus, cinnamon, nutmeg, and warm, woodsy vanilla are just heavenly. (AND if you enjoy a bargain, it’s hard to find a better one than this.)

    Have a great day, folks!😊

I’m going with a forgotten full bottle theme and today I found Y edt. It’s been quite a long time since I’ve worn it (years?). I think I bought it either in the ’90s or the ’00s. Pretty enough, but the fragrance has very little sillage on my skin.

They’re promising warmth this weekend. Wearing Boutonniere – someone else recently mentioned it, and it reminded me I hadn’t worn it in a while. I’d made a decant since I find the bottle unwieldy, but the decant scarpered so have dragged out the big bottle.

Wearing Infusion d’Iris today. It’s a gray, muggy day outside and we are expecting some thunderstorms later on today. If we lose electricity tonight and into tomorrow, it’s alright because I won’t have to be at work tomorrow and Friday. It’s just tonight I have to get through. I am also happy I get to miss Friday’s donut sale. Giant Eagle is going to have 1 dozen donuts for $6.00.

I wasn’t a huge fan of Prince but I did think he was very talented and I liked most of his music. His interviews were usually interesting, too. He said what he thought and didn’t tolerate fools lightly. When I had a contract in Grand Forks back in 2019 there were Prince references all over the town. I don’t have any perfume to link to him or his music specifically, so like some others I’m wearing what I want.

As for the drama mentioned yesterday, I should clarify and say it wasn’t related to me personally, at least most of it. I got off the Crazy Lady Boss’s team (everyone but her husband has moved on to another team or quit entirely) and have been happy as a clam since. They have shuffled a lot of people around because there was money missing from the safe, items missing from the supply room, a camper had a grill go missing and then magically found again in a workers campsite…like that. Can’t make this stuff up. Right about that time, when I was quite remote, I had a camper threaten me, saying “It’s not going to end well for you” when I asked him to leash his dogs in the campground. He was very mouthy but I wasn’t phased because people like to mouth off when they don’t get their way. What kind of worried me is that he left and came back two additional times looking for me (he had no idea what camper was mine as we met out in the campground loop as I was doing my walking rounds). Luckily, I had it all on video as well as his plate number. So, due to all of the above and some other minor stuff, I’m back down in the main campground. Hopefully the end of any human created drama for a good long time. 😅

I’m wearing Corsica Furiosa this morning and will soon be headed in to the office for my 3-4 hour shift. Working hard this summer! T-Rex is absolutely exhausted from her intense obsession with prairie dogs. She will watch a hole in the ground for hours, tense, expectant, every muscle coiled for attack, and then realize too late her leash doesn’t allow her to get close enough to her victim for the final snap of the neck…

And speaking of prairie dogs, the Bird Lady was on the riding mower yesterday and accidentally ran over one. She said she saw one popping it’s head out of its hole, calling the alarm as she was nearing with the mower, and because she was focused on that one, she didn’t see the one she ran over. Gruesome, I know. But she said that after she went by, the dog sounding the alarm risked its own safety, running out to drag its now dead brethren back into the hole and to safety, too late. As for me, I’ve always believed the emotional lives of animals is a very real thing. I wasn’t at all surprised by that behavior. Give extra love to all the animals you encounter!

I’ve seen similar things happen here in Colorado. Lots of prairie dogs live in the Denver metro area, and sometimes they dart out into traffic. ☠️

But, that’s a me thing having sensitivities and meant as no negative reflection up the perfumers. I thought the tree lovers amongst you might like this- NZ’s tree of the year, a Northern Rata. They start life as an epiphyte ( attached to a host tree, and then sends its roots down) which may explain the way it looks. Rata have beautiful red crimson flowers and in summer they are amazing.

I tried Bridgetown yesterday, really liked it but they had sold out and just had a sample. A bit like Pansy with a dose of jasmine and ylang ylang. Bit cold, dark and wintery here so adding a bit of summer light with Dune.

Hi everyone, I’m commando because I got a call about my mom early this morning. She had some kind of seizure and they called 911 to take her to a hospital. I’ve been here now for about six hours. Not much news, they’ve done a lot of tests. They plan to admit her here and get her seen by a neurologist. Luckily the ER was almost empty in the early hours. Mom is confused and agitated by all the tubes and wires. She really can’t understand anything. It’s very sad. But the nurses and doctor have been very nice. I’m probably going to go find some lunch before too long. It’s tough for me because this hospital is next door to the one my brother was in back in March. I’d like to not see any hospitals for awhile.

I tested it years ago and for some reason I didn’t care for it. I think at the time I thought it was too sweet or cloying.

I had the same reaction. Too sweet.

But I have 2 bottle of Chopard Casmir. Go figure. 😉

Yes, that’s a good description lol, this morning it smells just right, this pure parfum has crazy longevity, I have a bottle of the EDP somewhere.

My cold continued to develop during yesterday, and this morning I feel quite horrible. If it runs the usual course, I should be feeling better by the evening. Meanwhile, I’m not in the mood for perfume 🙁 .

Calypso – so sorry about your mother and I hope the hospital gets to the bottom of it so she can get the care she needs.
Kanuka – so that’s where the lost entwives ended up after all their wandering! (sorry, couldn’t resist this LOTR ref).
A purple rain of violets has descended on me today, a few drops of vintage Jolie Madame bath oil – violets plus leather plus oakmoss. And I’m sure Prince wore plenty of leather outfits in his performances so I’m doubling up on the CP today.
Deva – I’m reading The Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick, about General Custer and Sitting Bull, such a tragic chapter in U.S. history – and the descriptions of the Dakota territories and Montana make me think of where you are, though you are probably hundreds of miles away.
“a sere and jagged land cut up by deep ravines and high ridges, bristling with cacti and prickly pear. An acrid smoke billowed from burning veins of lignite coal…But it was the blue cloudless sky that dominated everything. The troopers had a saying – “the sky fitting close down all around” – that ironically captured the oppressive sense of containment that even an experienced plainsman felt when surrounded by so much arid and empty air.”

I’ve been craving L’air de Rien, which is one of my favorite perfumes ever, especially since it’ll soon be too warm for me to crave it. So I’m pairing it with a song Prince wrote, Nothing Compares 2 U, Sinead O’Connor’s version, of course. That title and her big emotions when she sings it are how I feel about L’air de Rien. 😍

Oh that’s perfect therabbitsflower! I did love that song. If Prince did his own version I don’t even think I ever heard it, I sort of assumed he wrote it for her.

I didn’t really remember the details but remembered hearing he had a version too. Then I read this article and found out even more. He wrote it and another band originally released it in the mid 80s. Then he covered it after Sinead in 1993. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-27/nothing-compares-2-u-sinead-o-connor-prince-the-family/102654218

Interesting! The Family version, no. And even then I like Sinead better than Prince, maybe I’m just more used to it.

Absurdly warm today. It’s a good 15 degrees above “normal” here, with temps in the low 90’s. I have the A/C set at 75, and it’s been cycling on and off throughout the afternoon. Fortunately, it cools off at night.

That “heat dome” covering other parts of the West is headed my way eventually. 🔥🔥🔥

Saw a Chinook helicopter flying over the area earlier. That is definitely unusual. Don’t usually see military helos around. Plenty of civilian ones, though.

SOTD = Smell Bent Pepper & Ylang EdT paired with Dionis’ Peach Delight lotion on my shins. Getting close to thunking the lotion.

Hotter than the 90s heading your way?

Is thunking the lotion a happy thing?

Other parts of Colorado were near 100 degrees F today. 🥵🥵🥵 So yeah.

Not sad about thunking that particular lotion. It was fun, but I don’t need any more of it.

But yes, I will be drinking a lot more water for the summer.

Prince is known for having the best guitar solo. Playing with Tom Petty, Prince’s solo is toward the end. 🕊️🕊️

I couldn’t put the link in, but it is on youtube, “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”.

    Kerbside Violet, its purple!

Did a little scent shopping in Casper Wyoming today. Nothing very exotic. I have a spritz of Bath and Bidyworks Swert Pea on one hand, and a spritz of Clinique Happy on the other. Happy wins- it is a lovely fragrance, and I don’t know why I haven’t bought a bottle of this already- but the Sweet Pea is a nice, slightly assertive floral in this dry heat of Wyoming-I should pick up some hand lotion in this the next time I get to that shop.

Nice choices. Sweet Pea is pretty, too.
