The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 4 June 2024 20 Comments

It's not my personal lemming, but from the comments to yesterday's poll, looks like it might be many of yours. The new limited edition "drop bottle" of 2016's Chanel No. 5 L'Eau, inspired by that "drop of Chanel No. 5" Marilyn Monroe reportedly wore to bed. Due to launch mid-month, read more in Chanel’s New No. 5 L’Eau Drop Bottle Was Inspired by Marilyn Monroe at Vogue.

Hmm, interesting. The article makes it sound like it’s just the bottle that’s new whereas Chanel’s website and the email they sent make it sound like it’s a new juice. I’m so confused. Guess we won’t have to wait too long to find out though.
That bottle reminds me of CK Obsessed that came out a few years ago.

Both of the articles I read on the subject specifically said it was the 2016 juice (which is weird actually because usually they’re more vague so you’ll buy…)

ps, which is not to say the articles aren’t wrong, because sometimes they are

My plan is to stop at Macy’s and ask them. If they say it is the same formula, I will know it is different. 🤣

The bottle shape reminds me of CK Obsession. I will give this one a pass. Not because of the bottle but L’Eau has no resemblance of any offering of no 5.

Oh, it does look sort of Obsession-y.

L’Eau is decent and it is probably wearable for anyone for whom classic perfume does not have appeal. But, speaking as someone who has had the Chanel No 5 Parfum version (the real deal IMO) it is like water in comparison as the name might imply.

Yeah, I think that’s the appeal for many.

This does not count as a perfume buy …

It’s the shape of their small bottle of (preposterously overpriced, even for Chanel) hand cream, looks like. Not that I’m interested: I’ve never found that any of the No. 5 flankers could hold a candle to the original, and frankly even that isn’t quite what it used to be — I had a bottle of the extrait in the eighties and it was magic, whereas more recent iterations seem thinner and less interesting.

What a cute bottle. I love the original No 5 but also L’Eau and Eau Premiere, imo it helps to just see them as individual perfumes and not flankers.

I agree. It’s the same with Coco Noir. I had to stop thinking of it as a flanker before I could appreciate it.

Absolutely! I was looking for Coco until I realized that CN is great on it’s own.

The bottle is cute, but this fragrance didn’t move me at all.

Not moved by this particular bottle.

Now, if they had brought back the red one, or done the classic bottle in a different color such as blue or green, I might not have been able to resist that.

    Money saved!

The original bottle with different colored glass, or even ceramic, would be fantastic! Is that what they do for the Chance flankers? Or are those different colored juice in clear bottles?

I quite like it. Reminds me of Bulgari’s 25ml travel bottles of Omnia.
