Wednesday scent of the day 5/29

Posted by Robin on 29 May 2024 134 Comments

It's Hump Day, World Digestive Health Day, National Biscuit Day and JFK’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

For the citrus tree in the "earth" portion of the Covarrubias mosaic, I'm in Carthusia Mediterraneo.

Reminder: on 5/31 we're doing the Picture challenge, edition 9...wear a perfume that matches the image, which is Genesis, The Gift of Life, a 1954 glass mosaic by Mexican artist and anthropologist Miguel Covarrubias. More info here.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: above is the middle third of the 1954 glass mosaic Genesis, The Gift of Life, by Mexican artist and anthropologist Miguel Covarrubias, via Dallas Museum of Art at Facebook. [You can find nice shots of the mosaic's detail at Flickr here, here, here, full shot here.]

En Passant for wheat in the earth section.

Yesterday an orthopedic surgeon told me I need orthotic insoles and referred me to the place whey they make them. Today I went there for measurement and was told I cannot wear open-back sandals anymore. Moreover, from now all my footwear should have high rigid back, which I know will cause blisters. Both my bank account and foot skin will weep. 😥 I will get over this news in a few days, but at the moment I am just depressed. At least I got medication for the pain, too.

I had orthotic insoles made for me many years ago, specifically for the high heels I used to wear for work. Those insoles became my best friends! Hopefully yours will too, and they’ll make your feet feel so much better that you won’t miss sandals. They won’t help with the rigid-heel woes, though.

Thank you, SheriG. I hope I will love mine too. The doctor said I will feel much better once I start using them. I hope it is true.

I hope so. I just really like my sandals (even if they are bad for me 🤣) and I hate buying shoes. Oh well.

I had insoles as a child because my feet were flat, it corrected itself, hope you can still occasionally wear sandals if you find some more rigid ones.

Well, yesterday I found out I have flat feet and they cause joint issues. I can wear sandals, but they need that high closed back part, while the front can be open. No slippers, because the heel needs to be stabilized.

    Hello.
Sotd is L’Artisan Crepusculum Mirabile 63. Buttery jasmine with a smooth tonka base. I kinda shouldn’t have tested this one out because now I am *slightly* tempted.
Doggo’s skin has been acting up from the humid weather and she nibbled her tail ferociously last night. Now there is a smelly, angry red patch. I will be going to the vet to see if I can just buy something topical without seeing the doctor because per my previous phone call about my doggo’s next routine check-up, they’re booked up until mid-June.

I’m wearing Safari today, which is another galbanum bomb. I love galbanum, but I think that I want to start looking for more pink pepper scents that I can get in decants. I wore Toy Boy earlier this week, and on my skin, it was pink pepper from beginning to end. I really liked it.

Gosh, it seems like there is pink pepper in so many fragrances, but offhand trying to think of pink pepper as the “star” and coming up blank.

I chose Dior Eau Sauvage this morning for the citrus in the middle panel of the mural. This is from a large sample ordered from STC, and I need to find out if it’s the current formulation because I LOVE it. What an amazing scent. My stepdad used to wear this back in the 70s/80s, and I was worried that it would be too “dad” on me … but it isn’t at all. Completely different, maybe because what I’m wearing isn’t vintage? 🤷

Eau Sauvage is such a wonderful fragrance. I get to smell it every day thanks to Mr. allo’s hajusuuri-level sprays.

Recently he asked me to find him some vintage Eau Sauvage (he started wearing it in the 80’s but was also spoiled smelling the original at the Osmotheque a few years ago). I told him that I was unlikely to find vintage that pristine – the original with its “sauvage” civet and crisp citrus is to die for. Sure enough, I found a vintage bottle but the top notes are too far off for his tastes.

The Eau Savage Parfum (2012 version) blew me away when I first smelled it. Should have grabbed a bottle then, since it’s discontinued.

I’m up at the cabin with no perfume!! But I did use Lemoncello body wash in the shower for the citrus trees in the painting.
We have 2 Loons who are building a nest on our shore, they’ve been very vocal. A lovely sound at dusk.

    Good morning, all!

Starting my day with a new fragrance (to me:) “Misia” from Chanel. It’s quite beautiful – a sort of softer, less sassy version of “Lipstick Rose.” Loving it, so far.

Heading up to Portland tomorrow to visit my daughter. We share an obsession with perfume, so no doubt we’ll make time to visit Fumerie on Division Street. Can’t wait!

I’m off today and it’s beautiful out. I’m spending way to much lazy time on my deck, waiting for the Principal to call me back. I am sure he will wait until I am in the middle of checking out at the grocery store later. Lol.
I am wearing Tuberose Gardenia from a generous swap. I matched it with Korres Grecian Gardenia body butter. I smell glorious!

Have a wonderful day Lillyjo, hope the principal doesn’t make you wait too long and will have constructive comments. I don’t remember if I really tried PC Tuberose Gardenia in the end, I had acquired PC Jasmine White Moss and the PC Ylang something from that series of three which turned out to be a wise move as those two got discontinued, the Ylang is an alarming deep brown color from the start, it showed on ads IIRC.

SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs 1957

I wanted to wear this with its 8 musks to go along with Undina’s QOTW. Musky, and a lovely blend of all! ❤️

In other news, I was unfortunately a little late to show up within the grace period for a maturing CD. So instead of renewing it at the promotional rate, it was renewed at a paltry 0.65%. One of the tellers enthusiastically said oh you can get the promotional rate!!! All you have to do is cancel the current one !!!, pay the penalty (10%) !!!, then book it at the promotional rate!!! If looks could kill … It was my bad so it is what it is.

ANYWAY, I am off to my adventure starting tomorrow. Looking forward to relaxation, etc. etc. etc. I decided to bring a book – “Lies and Weddings: A Novel” by Kevin Kwan – instead of bringing my Kindle although I can still get my books through my iPhone. I may or may not be reading / posting but whatever I decide to do, I will definitely see you on the other side!

I remember what the aroma of sage in that part of the US is like. That and sun-heated rocks are the smell of summer out there.

How big is a StarLink set-up?

Inspired by Jessica’s review of iris scents, I’m wearing Iris Nazarena.

Hmm, it doesn’t remind me of anything else I’ve sniffed. There’s a smokiness and sharp spice that makes it quite different than most iris-centric scents. The iris here comes across quite cold to me, but the smoke and spice balances it out.

I wanted something a bit odd today, and I had already worn Mistral Patchouli fairly recently, so I settled on Onda Voile d’Extrait. Such a shapeshifter.

I’m wearing SL’s Rousse, for the warming spicy effect. I’m well into coats and boots now and, while I much prefer warmer weather, wrapping up in winter has it’s charms.

Frozen mango, juice of a lemon and yogurt smoothie

I reached for Innocent today, while Angel doesn’t appeal to me in warm weather the citrus of Innocent I’ve always found wonderful for summery days, and tonight it’s MB Muddled Plum.

Yes, you’re right, it’s pretty much a lassi, highly recommend it, especially the fresh lemon juice lifts the mango taste.

I can understand how Angel and hot, humid weather would not play together nicely at all. It’s a commitment perfume, to boot. Not gonna wear off in an hour or two!

Exactly, TBH I rarely wear it, it’s mostly for reference, I always end up choosing Angel Men or liqueur.

Today I kinda retrofitted the perfume I felt like wearing, Mona di Orio Violette Fumee, with the cp. I figured it works with the purple swirling “smoke” rising from the fire.

Yesterday I was inspired by the moon in the upper left of the mural and wore a perfume inspired by the moon called Les Lunatiques by LVNEA.

Oh, Violette Fumée is a lovely one. I’ve always coveted a bottle, but it was always just a bit outside my price range, and now I think it’s gone. Sigh.

It is so nice and such a unique perfume too. I don’t have a bottle either, just a few drops left in one decant and about 4 or 5 ml in another, I think. I’ll miss it when I run out.

I think this might be one of my favorite art pieces that you have featured, Robin. I find it fascinating and keep going back to look at it.

Meh day today. No motivation at all. I don’t even have cruddy weather as an excuse.

SOTD = back in St. Tropez Dispenser EdT. At least I am enjoying the perfume today.

Your sotd sounds fun. My ulta finally put out a tester of Vacation. I was bothered by the plastic note. There’s a new one in a greenish bottle by them ( can’t remember the name) I liked that one better.

Some commenters on Fragrantica have commented/complained about a plastic note in St. Tropez Dispenser. Thankfully I don’t get that. I think what I am smelling is Old School Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen/sun tan lotion.

I’ve seen the After Sun perfume around, but didn’t test it.

I wish I could find a better description of the mythological underpinnings, and maybe some better photographs, but maybe less information is freeing.

I know a bit of Native American and Aztec mythology, so some of what is pictured is in line with those stories.

I’m in a sample of A13’s Behind Closed Doors that I got as a GWP recently. I get an ambery honey as the dominant note, along with some musky civet. It opened with citrus and pineapple, but that faded quickly and morphed into peru balsam. Maybe the citrus just got drowned out by the more assertive notes. I see complaints that this is a cumin bomb, but to my nose the cumin is fairly restrainted and it is kinda like, “well, what did you expect with a name like that?” Overall, I think this is well done.

Tea today is Harney’s Holiday with some cloves added in.

I made beet hummus and just dropped some off at my sister’s house for my niece to try. I’m really hoping she likes it because there are so many fun bright pink foods we can make with beets, but only if she likes the flavor. She loves hummus so this seemed like the best way to test it out.

I just roast beets, peel them, grate them into store bought hummus, mix until it is a uniform pink, and then add salt and lemon juice to taste. Easy but messy.
