Wednesday scent of the day 5/22

Posted by Robin on 22 May 2024 86 Comments

It's Hump Day, World Goth Day and Sherlock Holmes Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

We're looking at 85 today. I'm copying ringthing's Tuesday choice in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil.

Reminder: 5/24 is International Tiara Day aka Queen Victoria's birthday. Wear your perfume equivalent of a tiara.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image shows Design for a pink and gold tiara, by the firm of John Brogden, about 1860, ["This design comes from 'The Brogden Album', the album contained 1,593 designs for jewellery and goldsmith's work, mainly in colour and dating between 1848 and 1884. It is a unique record of the years in which John Brogden, an internationally celebrated 'art goldsmith and jeweller worked first in partnership and then as owner-director of his own firm."], via Victoria and Albert Museum.

That tiara is beautiful. I am wearing Delacourte Olyssia , i don’t know if tha qualifies as a tiara perfume, it’s lovely and fresh.
After reading Delacourte’s book i was chocked about all that drama at Guerlain, sounds very competitive and not a good working environment for creativity.

    Hello!

World Goth Day:). Decided to go with Amouage Memoir as it’s gothy to me some.

Did some perfume sniffing with friends that I went to the pool with. One said No. 5, “smelled like a funeral home”. Then proceeded, “I don’t know what it is about No. 5 that I hate so much.” Then I said, “Well maybe it’s…” then she cut me off saying, “I don’t know, it just smells like a dead person!”. I was thinking that it was kinda good that I didn’t spritz on No. 5 before I met up with them lol. I also didn’t let them know No. 5 Hair Mist is one of my top lemmings at the moment lol. What can ya do? Add hair mist to cart haha.

May seems to be going by quickly, looks like triple digits next week. Oof lol.

    Hugs to everyone 🌹

The terrestrial radio station I listen to was playing a set of “Goth” music twice every hour today. I enjoyed it. But some of the songs were a surprise to me.

Gorgeous tiara! sometimes a friend of mine used to make me wear a tiara and eat oreos after swimming practice. We were in our mid 30’s at the time 🙂

SOTD is Chanel Cologne. My skin makes all fragrances last forever so no worries about its fleeting nature for me. It’s crisp cool and elegant.

Everyone should have a friend who makes them wear a tiara 🙂

My most tiara-worthy fragrance is 24 Faubourg and I’m saving that for Friday. This morning the hand went to Bucoliques de Provence and I have no regrets. 😁

I am wearing Micallef Royal Muska. The connection to tiaras is “royal” of course. It is an elegant musk perfume.

You guys probably know that Queen Victoria chose not to wear a tiara for her wedding and instead wore a headdress with real orange blossom. What I did not know is that later Albert gave her orange blossom jewelry. Read more and see pictures here – https://www.thepracticalgemologist.com/jewelry-history-1/2016/4/19/4xk2x2w65y1ynn93xridakqm91an4v

I might wear an orange blossom scent tomorrow or on Friday, even though I have other perfumes on my list.

I think one might still pull it off today with the right choice of clothing, but yes – it is definitely a period piece. Those enamel flowers look really realistic! And I like that four oranges symbolize their four children. Sweet.

    Hello.
Sotd is Pleasures Intense. I adore this so much, even more than the original Pleasures.
My Chanel SA just sent me a pic of the new Les Exclusif Body oils. One of them is Beige. I waaant it! But I am saving up for a potential bottle of Rabbit. Good that neither of them are limited edition so I can take my time.

I recently sniffed the Beige body oil which was nice, but then decided to finally buy the Beige itself. Years of dithering meant the price had gone up hugely, but more dithering would have no doubt led to a still higher price.

Acqua Colonia White Peach and Coriander. I don’t get much – just a certain freshness. Which works.

In keeping with my cluelessness for the week…. Yesterday I thought it was Wednesday. Today, I went to my eye appointment. But I left the house forgetting to out my wallet back in my purse. Couldn’t pay for my appointment…will have to call in my credit card. And I couldn’t run any of the errands I intended.

Last night was quite the light show. Rain started just as I headed for bed. Then it was ci tenuous lightning flashes for almost an hour. A disappointing lack of strong thunder but I’ve never seen continuous lightning like that…

    Wearing L’Artisan Histoire d’Orangers.

Beautiful warm, sunny, windy day in the low 80s. I wish every day was like today. I am at the nearby promenade now having lunch. It is just a 15 minute walk from the office, so I see myself coming here almost every day. It is so quiet, peaceful, and relaxing. A good place to escape from the insanity of work.
    Happy Wednesday! 🌞

I’m thinking what stones would be used for the pink tiara. Pink diamonds are too rare and expensive, the queen used to wear a brooch with a huge one which was estimated in the millions; I know there are pink sapphires and pink tourmalines or the cheaper quartz.

No smoothie today because I’m having avocado and lentils so healthful enough. Continuing with Nicolaï samples, Ambre cashmere, smooth and perfectly pleasant but not memorable so I switched to Avon, Today… my everything, cute and sweet but not memorable either, so tonight I’m in Jasmins Marzipane which is memorable.

Today’s weather can’t decide if it’s a rainy day or not. I think I’ll run some errands and bake something later. I’m wearing Toujours Moi from the Swapmeet and it is wonderful. A cousin to Tabu, and stuffed with orange blossom. So if Victoria wore an orange blossom crown instead of a diamond tiara for her wedding, I’m tangentially in synch with the CP.

I missed out on commenting the last couple days because work is very busy right now. Finding time now to say I decided to go with rich, opulent perfumes for the theme this week. Today I’m in Parfums Delrae Bois de Paradis. Yesterday I went with Amouage Memoir Woman, and Monday it was Parfums Delrae Wit. Wit isn’t as rich or opulent as the others, but it still felt beautiful enough to pair with tiara and was perfect for our sunny 66 degree day. I’ve been smelling really good this week!

So I have another feel good story. Two weeks ago, I bought two bowls of bacon mac n’ cheese at Panera except it was just plain no 🥓- boo hiss! Anyway, I took a picture so I can stop by whenever to ask for the price difference. I went back this past Sunday to request the difference. To my SURPRISE, the manager gave me two complimentary bowls plus a humongous cup for whatever drink I wanted. I had to sheepishly ask if he actually meant FREE and he said yes. WOW! So here’s my shoutout to Panera! They have new menu options!

I was on jury duty today which took up most of my day and I will have to go back tomorrow because I got on a jury. Most of today was spent on going downtown, checking in, waiting a lot, lining up, waiting more, finally going into the courtroom in a panel of 45, and hearing the attorneys ask us questions. I can’t speak about the case but it looks to be somewhat interesting and should just take up the one day, tomorrow. I have to say that hearing my fellow citizens answer questions reminded me of some bad days in freshman philosophy classes. ‘Nuff said. We did get a free box lunch!

For this dignified outing I wore Indigo Smoke, with the thought it is a somber and serious fragrance that I don’t think would offend anyone.

I’ve been in Hiris today, with Tatcha body butter on my legs. Oh, and some CBD cream on my knees. They’ve been bothering me a little after climbing the stairs multiple times last week when the power went out. We’re still having some blips in the power in the late afternoons. Not sure if the state power grid is already having issues or if it’s due to the continued work getting power to those who still are without. It’s been quite a deal.
