Thursday scent of the day 5/16

Posted by Robin on 16 May 2024 109 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National Barbecue Day and the International Day of Living Together in Peace. Birthdays: Studs Terkel, Woody Herman, Liberace, Betty Carter and Christian Lacroix. (PSA: the splitmeet and the Haiku challenge are both coming up on Saturday.) What fragrance are you wearing?

The only thing I bake with any regularity these days is granola, so I'm doing ingredients from my granola recipe this week. Today: vanilla, in Hermès Vanille Galante.

Reminder: 5/17 is World Baking Day. Do what you like with the theme. You could wear a gourmand, or you could wear any perfume with any ingredient you like to bake with (or eat), or ?? Be as creative as you like.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I had a sample of Vanille Galante, and really loved it.

I’m in Musc Ravageur from a sample I’ve had since forever. I just patted the shop dog, so I smell like expensive fume and dog lol.

I am in Theorema. It has spices and gourmand-like sweetness.

We had some long power outages last night and early in the morning. And we are going to have more. So I am looking through different UPS specs – I need to get one soon to keep internet on when there is no power.

It is Vyshyvanka Day today in Ukraine. I do not have a vyshyvanka (Ukrainian ethnic embroidered clothes), but I saw a lot of people wearing them today.

Looking forward to haiku challenge – I have been feeling kind of down lately and hope it will be a good distraction.

    Hello.
Sotd is the delicious Miu Miu Fleur de Lait. Coconut milk and mango parfait. Yum. The bottle is also really cute!
My house also smells of mosquito coils because the warming weather has brought along a new generation of these pesky bugs and they are not(!) welcome.

I’m wearing Tobacco Honey from a sample, probably for the last time this season, as the heat will start cranking up this week. They are predicting 29 for Monday already! Whew.

Will bake banana nut muffins tomorrow. I love to bake. In the past week I’ve made several pies and irish cream scones.

        The scones are super easy.

        2.5 cups flour
        3 tbsp sugar
        1 tbsp baking soda
        1/2 tsp salt

Stir dry ingredients ( I use a whisk) then add 1 1/3 cups of 35% whipping cream and 1 tbsp honey, mix in bowl, then refrigerate for 15 minutes. Shape and place on baking sheet, bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

Although I am not adventurous in trying out foods, my dinner companions had tagine meat (not sure which type) and the presentation was fabulous!

Mathilde Laurent at Cartier stated that one day she wishes to make Cartier discontinued perfumes available again, we’ll see, SP has lovely fruits, it’s essentially a fruity floral that’s why I find it lovely in spring, I bought it in winter and it was definitely not the right season for it.

Keeping the Hippie Rose buzz going today since it was so enjoyable yesterday. I really like this one. The staying power is surprisingly light — the other spicy roses in my collection tend to cling and cling — but that just means I get to reapply at intervals and enjoy that first gorgeous whoosh all over again.

Today I went with a Bath & Body Works perfume from their Tutti Dolci line that they put out in nice glass bottles as EDT. I’ve had this one, Sugar Wafer, for jeez, probably 17 years, maybe longer! I almost sold or swapped it before, but I’m so glad I gave it another chance. It smells like sugar cookie batter at first with a Play-Doh aspect, and it dries down to a spiced vanilla and sugar. Very easy to wear for me and comforting.

I’m absolutely reeking of OJ Woman today and I love it! Just staying around home today doing odd jobs and watching miscellaneous stuff on tv, honestly, more news than is healthy for an old person like me. 🙁

It seems I go in spates where sometimes I love cooking and trying new recipes and then I become utterly lazy and only want frozen meals or going out for dinner. Last night I craved Singapore Noodles and went to a nice Chinese restaurant and ate a huge serving all by myself. I truly believe I could eat it all over again tonight, it was that good! But I must scour my cupboards and fridge drawers to try to find something healthy with some greens that I can throw together for tonight. We’re in for more rain and possible street flooding or tornadoes so I am just staying in for the rest of the day.

Looks like good news in that the parts needed are available, so the ol’ GE P*7 can keep on baking. The repairman will be back next week to finish the job. SotD Gucci Guilty Absolute pour Femme. I thunked a sample, and finally decided to spring for a rollerball. It is not like anything else I have – supposedly it’s a chypre, but it seems too perky or something. Yet the blackberry-clean wood smell somehow calls to me.

Interesting on the dishwasher. The repairman (who is the son of the couple that previously did our appliance work) said we had a very reliable old KitchenAid and suggested running a few cycles with a cup of white vinegar each. He thought we had *soap buildup.* Egad! So I will try that. Long story but I previously cleaned the spray arms, but I guess the buildup can occur around the pump and be unseen. Glad your venting woes were solved, my friend! And yay for cat-friendly repairman.

National Barbeque Day? Wish I’d known that before I ate dinner. There’s a really good BBQ restaurant in the next town over. Easy drive, too.

So my venting issue has been resolved. This afternoon a very polite worker came by with a long ladder and a bucket of ductwork(!!). He said he needed access to the attic. I’m thinking that when the roofers installed the new vents, they weren’t connected to any ductwork! SMH.

The fix took about 30 minutes and didn’t really disturb Teflon kitty. In fact, the worker said goodbye to her as he left. I was the second to last unit in my building to have the repairs done. But since I didn’t know when I was scheduled, I had been waiting around since 8:30 this morning. Annoying, but First World Problems, right?

SOTD = back in Prada Candy, with Josie Maran Vanilla Vibezzz Body Butter. The combo is really, really good! Plus CP compliant. 😉

I felt a little bad for him being stuck in a hot attic!

You should try the Candy/Vanilla Vibezzz combination if you can. I was definitely wowed by it. I didn’t even layer them; they just smelled great hanging out in the same general area.

I think that way is almost better than true layering. That way you get cross whiffs.

Glad it’s all fixed and Teflon Kitty was unruffled! 🙂

Teflon did come running into my bedroom to let me know the worker was finished. (She’s also afraid of ladders!)

Ladders make all those clattering noises that kitties tend to hate.

Looking forward to the exhaust fans in the bathrooms working the way they ought to now!

I had a pretty lazy day off today. I managed some light housework and laundry. My brother will be going to a rehab facility tomorrow, since he hasn’t made enough progress to go home yet. He is improving though.
My sotd is Fenty for the blueberry note. For the first time though I am getting some sort of animalic note. I’m not sure what it is. I normally wear this in the cold and today was on the humid side. Maybe I am the animalic note?! 🤣

Glad your brother is improving, that Fenty sounds odd.

It is odd, but I really like it. I think I will put it away until fall though. Lol.

Yay you for having a lazy day off! After some of the stuff you’ve experienced lately, you needed one.

Sometimes lazy is just what you need. I would have taken a nap but neither the dog or my daughter was having it.
