Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, mid-to-late April 2024

Posted by Robin on 20 April 2024 140 Comments

Saturday is 420 / Weed Day; Sunday is World Creativity and Innovation Day.

We're marking it all with our standard lazy weekend open thread poll: talk about anything you like — the perfume you’re wearing today, the last perfume you tried and loved because you read about it in the comments here, whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

The end of Etat Libre d’Orange week, and today I’m in Nombril Immense, their patchouli scent, and very nice it is, too. (Tomorrow I’ll be in Eau de Protection, one of my favourite dark roses ever and possibly my favourite ELdO scent.)

    Hello and happy weekend!
Really stormy weather today, even the doggo’s afraid to go outside (and I wouldn’t let her!) The good thing is that it cool the temperature down a little.
I am staying dry and comfy indoors with my sotd – Kilian Rolling in Love.
I made myself a tall glass of iced coconut latte with tiny coffee agar jellies. So fun and yummy! Yes I have those thick bubble tea straws 😋

Wearing Dior’s Cologne Blanche from a decant acquired at the last Swapmeet and rediscovering my love for that trilogy (with Bois d’Argent and Cologne Noire). As for discovering new scents here, I have added many to my ‘test’ list after reading about them here.

    Wearing Serge Lutens Santal Majuscule.

Running errands right now on this warm, but cloudy day. There is a beautiful explosion of flowers everywhere. Most trees and plants are in full bloom. That puts a big smile on my face. So uplifting! Nothing beats the intoxicating smell of lilacs. I will be taking walks around my neighborhood everyday to enjoy the beauty of the season.
Wishing everyone a happy and healthy weekend! 🌻🐇🌷🌸🐤

I walked down the street to check our local lilac bush, still in the budding leaf stage. Usually they bloom the 2nd week of May here but it’s a mild spring so I will watch them carefully. Lilacs are my favorite scented flower.

Many of the lilac trees are already in full bloom here, others almost in the full bloom stage. So sad they don’t last longer than 2 weeks. But until May they will be greatly enjoyed!

Since I’m meeting a friend who’s a big Guerlain fan, I am wearing Limon Verde, although I might have to re-spritz before I leave for lunch.

Oh, and I have an idea for a CP: Enabled Perfumes. NST naturally and by its very nature sparks “Oh, I must try that!”

I’m rounding out last week’s CP in Under My Skin. It’s a bit too much for the glorious golden morning we’re having, but I couldn’t resist. And I want to know what kind of rhododendron that is in the photo up top — I’ve never seen rhodie flowers like that. Which reminds me that we haven’t been to the rhododendron test garden here in town since before the pandemic. Need to remedy that.

I am no expert, but it looks to me like Korean rhododendrons…there were some blooming a few weeks ago (so they are early) at Winterthur gardens near me. They are deciduous and look a lot like azaleas (which are in the rhododendron genus).

The latin name is Rhododendron mucronulatum.

Predicted temps are mid to to high 60’s but my prediction (since I have all the education and weather tools at my disposal😉) will be low to mid 70’s. The sun is blasting down like what will be death rays come summer, and the wind is just a mild breeze. In summary, perfect! 😊

Strangely enough, my future boss is in my neighbor until Sunday. Not within eyesight as they are apparently a couple of miles down the same road on their own patch of sand. In this whole wide world, never would have thought to bump into anyone I had any connections with out here. Anyway, we’ll meet up sometime later today to say “Hello, nice to meet you.”

I was a little stumped with perfume this morning but went with NV Trayee for its dry, semisweet incense. Happy swapping to those participating in the swap fest. Hope you find your hearts desire. 😍

I’m looking forward to the job and hoping this is a brand new direction for me. Or I could go into weather forecasting because it topped off at 75F today, just like I predicted. 😉

Yesterday I had a check up at the doctor, a week after my lasik surgery. The doctor confirmed that the eyes are healing well and that we achieved 100% correct vision effect, fully getting rid of my myopia and astigmatism! So happy!

I did not wear perfume while I was up north for my brother’s funeral and related matters, as I didn’t want any negative associations. But I had just placed an order with Luckyscent and it was here when I got home on Wednesday. I am trying, for the first time, some Hilde Soliani scents. My order was for five, and I’ve tried them all now. So far my favorite is the embarrassingly named Orgasmo, which is not at all what one might have expected, but just a truly enticing vanilla almond bomb. I think I may buy a bottle. The other one I like is Il Tempo delle Mele, featuring a tart apple note. Oh, and actually I like the patchouli one a lot too Christina, but don’t think I”ll get a bottle because there are other patchoulis I like better.

In happy news, I have just facilitated the adoption of two kittens by some young friends, and it makes everyone so happy–my friends, the cat foster mom, and me! Plus, we are all sure, those little kittens. They are said to be especially rowdy and playful and my friends are so excited to have them join them up north in Colorado!

First, a question – can anyone recommend something that’s a fairly accurate and straight-forward tiare? I want to build my familiarity with the note. Thanks!

SOTD: Jour d’Hermes, for the sunshine it brings. (The weather isn’t reliably delivering)

Tea: Mightly Leaf Green Tea Tropical. I’m going for all the alternative sunshine options

This community might appreciate this math story:

Husband: How many ounces in a liter?

      Me: I dunno. (pause) Well, there’s 3.3oz in 100 ml, so 33?

      Husband: You’re right!

Me: (laughing) You know why I know that, right?

      (He certainly did)

    10 hours sweet sleep.
I think I have slept really well all week. In Florida, the AC is usually on.
Still a bit on the cool side here by the Pacific and there are no complaints from me.

I wore Vietnamese Coffee to see my sister and she asked me to shower it off and not wear again. Said it had some funk. 🙁

Again, she sat across the street while I spent three hours at Santa Maria Novella, so maybe it’s her and not me.

I watched Oppenheimer, American Fiction and Anatomy of a Fall on my flights to and from.
    All were great.

Have one new job interview for Tuesday.

    Mani /pedi later today.

I think I will reach to the bottom of the CdG stack and wear the original one. hopefully, no funk.

I was up early and it was sunny and gorgeous on my walk to barre class. I thought oh wow it’s going to be another gorgeous day. Clouds moved in and by 9 it was gray and overcast. 😞 On the bright side at least I was up early enough to see it, got a good workout in💪 and enjoyed a latte. Now it’s laundry and chillaxing at home with the teen.

I’m wearing what I found while looking for something else, L’Arte di Gucci. I thought I only had a sample and here was a sizey decant, so nice surprise. The older I get, the more “surprises” I encounter, all that stuff I misplaced that pop up later and I’m glad to find.
Do you get distracted in your collection and wear something different than you had planned? Does it work out well?

I’m drinking the new fun Dr.Pepper flavor creamy coconut. It tastes like coconut cream pie. Pretty delicious 🌞

Another gorgeous day out in the boonies. 🌞😎

Wearing Tauer Une Rose de Kandahar. Lovely deep, intricate perfume which always reminds me of a deep wine colored brocade. Very regal. I feel so fancy schlepping around in my dusty joggers, t-shirt, and slippers. The cherry on top is a very messy bun. So chic! 😉

Very nice on a day that has not decided what it wants to be yet. I will try to think it this year. Yes, I have a BUB!

I was overly curious about the B&BW Laundry soap that I bought 2 of them – Vanilla Suede and Champagne Toast. They are on limited distribution so I reluctantly paid shipping or I would have had to buy 4 due to the sale. I may use it on a blanket just to try it out. 🫣

It cleared up but is cooler today. Still feels like spring. I’m going with En Passant for the lilac bushes up the street that have just started to bloom. I so want a lilac bush for myself, but I tried that in my cave of a tiny backyard and it failed due to lack of sunlight.

We had an interesting night yesterday on my usually quiet little street. There was a huge protest outside the Ukrainian church hall next door to my house — not Ukrainians, though, but Eritreans. There were many police cars, some fighting, and pepper spray, and my house was surrounded by police and protesters for 6 hours. Turns out the Eritrean church that rents the Ukrainian hall was hosting some speaker affiliated with the Eritrean government, which is apparently quite authoritarian, and other Eritreans were protesting it. I know so much more about Eritrean politics than I did at this time yesterday! (As in, I now know a very small amount). All is quiet this morning, though, after they finished up the offending speech & reception and then their usual all-night church service.

OJ Sampaquita whilst looking through the swapmeet. Is it just me or do many of the OJs dry down to be the same base scent? She definitely has a signature.

I know I bought Boucheron Homme recently because someone mentioned it. And I think @pfsh mentioned Eau Premiere a few weeks ago so I got a bottle of that, too. I think I found my No. 5!

Perfume people, I had such a great perfume day! I was out on a bike ride and stopping off at various rummage/yard/estate sales. At one of them, there was a 100mL bottle of Penhaligon’s Babylon, about a quarter used up. I asked how much they wanted for it, and they said $1!!!!! I sprayed it and it smells fine. I definitely bought it. They also sold me a 25 mL bottle of Lauder’s Beautiful, half gone, for $1. Since I thunked Coriandre (my go-to biking scent), these might become my new biking scents.

Back on the weather roller coaster here. It got up to 63 degrees F today. So I turned my heat back off after having it on for 3 days. The couple inches of snow I had are a distant memory now.

SOTD = Givenchy L’Interdit EdP, modern version. I opened up my bottle on Saturday for the first time. It’s a linear floral amber, but I like it. Not every perfume I have has to be complicated.
