Thursday scent of the day 4/4

Posted by Robin on 4 April 2024 207 Comments

It’s Thursday and International Carrot Day. Birthdays: Dorothea Dix, Muddy Waters, Marguerite Duras, Maya Angelou. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am not racking up the points this week. I went with Honoré des Prés I Love Les Carottes.

Reminder: on 4/5 we're doing salt & pepper...wear a fragrance with salty notes, pepper notes, or both. (Thanks go to Calypso for the suggestion!)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Robin, you get points for wearing a carrot scent on International Carrot Day!

The weather is much cooler now, so I am wearing one of my favorite pepper perfumes – Lush Lord of Misrule. Patchouli, vanilla and black pepper – yum!

I’m in Abel Nurture for my one day of work this week. I took yesterday off as a recovery day and stayed home, did multiple loads of laundry and had the house to myself. It was really nice and I’m going to have to remember to do that if and when I travel again.

Fragrance will be Costes body lotion for the CP (white pepper) and because it’s so unique. But first, heading to morning workout class. Almost looks wintery here again (Seattle) – gloomy gray clouds and windy after some nice sunny springy days. I know warmer weather is coming, though! I am so looking forward to a beer on our rebuilt deck (current project for Mr. SP) when summer is here.

It’s my birthday so I scented myself up like a layer cake: Posh White Chocolate and Rose, topped with coconut lotion, sprinkled with Imogen Rose. I smell like a treat! Pouring rain today, alas, but Boyfriend and I have both taken the day off work and he’ll be here soon to build a fire and be cozy with me.

Extra achey, stiff, and bruisey today, so I think “cozy” is about the extent of today’s activities! Although this evening my bestie will be whisking me off for cocktails at a nearby restaurant, where I’m sure I’ll be incredibly chic with my grandma cane.

I’m in SMN Eva, my favorite scent with a black pepper note. In other news, my laundry equipment got temporarily reinstalled yesterday — woohooo! Sadly, the dryer has developed a problem (there were hints of it before the burst pipe extravaganza), which have now worsened to the point that it isn’t usable. Gah! I was looking up repair services, but Mr. G thinks it’s time to just replace the dryer, and he’s probably right. But in the meantime I STILL can’t do laundry here. Drat!

Much sympathy, my washing machine started malfunctioning during the pandemic–took about 4-6 weeks for one of the techs to come & take a look, only to promptly tell me it wasn’t worth fixing. Then due to supply chain slowness, another month to get the new one delivered. Can’t imagine having to deal with renovations on top of the no washing machine aggravation!

Oh god, at least we’re not in lockdown — were there even laundromats open for you at that time? I’m lucky enough to have relatives fairly nearby whose equipment I can use … and have been, since mid-January. It’s just that I was so looking forward to not having to schlep anymore, if you know what I mean.

Rainy and cold today, and there’s even possibility of hail. It’s jarring after it being in the mid-70s earlier this week!

    Hello.
    Sotd is F*ing Fabulous.
I am still gorging obscene amounts of food here in KL. It’s really hot here so my afternoon treat everyday is a bowl (or 2…) of cendol (shaved ice topped with pandan jelly, red bean, coconut cream and coconut palm sugar syrup).
I also bought 2 Amouages – Honour 43 and Material. I original intended to buy Guidance but it was sold out so Material it was. I also tested out the new Love Delight. Definitely not “Amouagey” and very easy to wear. Nowhere special enough to warrant the price tag. I got 2 samples of it. Let’s see if my opinion will change.

PSA! – The Secret Garden collection (Love Tuberose, Lilac, Mimosa etc.) from Amouage has been “updated” (read: reformulated). Now they come in matte pastel-toned bottles. Most importantly, the scents have changed, and IMHO, not for the better. E.g. Love Tuberose is noticeably less creamy and the yummy tuberose is now “watery”. What is was before – a decadent tuberose layered cake topped with chantilly cream is now a diet, low-fat version. I am so happy I have a bottle of the old stuff.
If anyone has been eyeing these Amouages, better run out and see if they have the original ones in stock and grab them!

Hi everyone. I chose L de Lolita Lempicka for the salty sweet caramel popcorn note it has, that Fragrantica doesn’t mention. I smell it clearly.
Cold and wet here, too. It will be so good to see the sun next time it makes an appearance.

I’m in the gorgeous Parfum Sacre EDP today for the pepper note (which I luckily don’t really get). I don’t really like obvious black pepper notes partly because they tend to take over a fragrance. But I have plenty of wonderful perfumes in which the pepper note is blended harmoniously or isn’t the star, and that’s how I like it. 🙂

Yesterday I wore Maison Anonyme Vespero, which was fine but not a love.

We’ve got a gloomy, cool day after a bunch of nicer, partly sunny days. And work has been kind of annoying too so I’m really counting down until work is over and I can get out for a walk. I still look forward to my evening walks even when the sun isn’t out.

Today I’m wearing The 7 Virtue’s Vetiver of Haiti, thanks to a generous NSTer. I love this one and should wear it more often. This summer I plan to completely overhaul the inside of the camper because some of the organization details aren’t working efficiently. During that time I plan to go through all my perfumes and thin the herd. This is one that is definitely staying. 🥰 The job requirement is part time, 5-6 hours a day, 6 days a week, so I should have plenty of down time to get this done.

It’s cloudy and cooler here, no rain as of yet. T-Rex had half an egg-roll yesterday and is now a Chinese food convert, or so she tells me! Feeling very lethargic today because my sleep cycle is a hot mess. Will try to get at least one constructive thing accomplished today. I did do laundry yesterday so I don’t feel like a complete slugabed. Energy, I need energy…

It will definitely be 100% less stress! I’ll be mostly my own boss, camping in the woods next to a stream with my doggo 24/7. My only concern is it’s VERY remote with no cell service so hoping I run into nice people only. In reality, I’m more likely to get hit, kicked, punched, stabbed or shot working in a hospital, so there’s that! Can wear any fragrance, big or small, because I’ll be outdoors. There’s a lake nearby to visit for swimming, a dump station and fresh potable water nearby all on a minimally traveled road…I’m sure there will be some negatives but I’m not focusing on them. 🏕️

In anticipation of this I bought several books (paper books, not electronic) and will get several more on my list before I go. I will be straddling Maslow’s hierarchy of needs with one foot at the very base and one foot at the top of the pyramid. Quite sure I will lose my balance and fall on my 🍑 but it’s all part of the game, right? As long as my doggo is comfortable and we don’t cross paths with any serious hooligans, I’ll be happy. ✌🏼

Yes, it’s a small remote campground at a higher elevation in Utah. Basically the job is to make sure the camp sites are clean and tidy, clean one toilet (it’s a pit toilet because no running water), possibly some painting and/or weed whacking, act as some sort of “presence” so campers don’t go wild and crazy, answer questions, make sure sites have been appropriately paid for, and collect money for the rangers. It seems very low key and I did do some research before applying and committing. It doesn’t pay much but I took the first offer to get my foot in the door. Next summer I’ll focus more on pay and location, hoping to get something along the PNW coast.

          • Robin says:
            6 April 2024 at 12:06 pm

I’m not doing the CP today. I saw Bois de Paradis in my cabinet and couldn’t resist, and sprayed on four really big sprays. And yes it sent me right into Paradis, a garden of cypress trees and spice and figs and rose! Actually I was kind of hoping that some of the spiciness in this was pepper but I guess not, according to the notes.

Started out the day with Avon’s Casbah, and finished with a spritz of Borneo 1834. Been busy this week getting ready for some family. Our area is in the totality of the eclipse, and almost at the last minute, I thought maybe some family would want to see it, so I put out an invite. Is anyone else in the path? All the schools, banks and many employers are shutting down in our town. The weather looks promising, and if it’s clear, the local public safety officials are planning for a big turnout from people in the region.

I really like today’s photo, Robin!

Had a couple of small carrots as a late afternoon snack to mark International Carrot Day. “What’s up, Doc?” 🥕🥕

Current temp is 76 degrees F. Got a Fire Weather Warning in effect as well. Too early for this much warm! I’d like to send some of this off to someone who would appreciate it. I’ll add a side of sunshine, too.

SOTD = Hermes Eau de Merveilles EdT, from The Sample Stash. I don’t like this at all immediately after I put it on. Really woody. It mellows out to something I can put up with after a couple of hours. Got salt?

But that doesn’t really equate to liking for the long haul. I have a bottle but it’s probably one I will thin this summer. WAY too early for fire weather! Volatile weather in Colorado is nothing new. My parents used to make jokes about “If you don’t like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change.”

But it’s a lot less green here than NJ! And no magnolias.

I remember once when I went out for a run in shorts and short sleeves and it was 65 degrees. I had not checked weather first. Within 30 minutes and at the furthest point in my run, it was down at 35 and then started snowing!

It has taken me three times to like this scent. The first time I tried it I didn’t care for it. The second time I liked it, but it didn’t seem to last. Now I like it just fine, and it lasts several hours. It seems as I have aged, so has my tastes in perfume.

I may have gone the other direction with EdM. I recall kind of liking it when I tried it in Sephora ages ago.

I should retry my sample of EdM Bleue and see what I think of it.

There are certain perfume notes/aromachemicals that didn’t bother me a few years ago that get on my nerves now.

I have not been sleeping well all week, and my routine has been out of sorts. Have missed everyone here.
Today I am trying to play along with the CP with Montale Orient Extreme. Like many Montales, it takes a while to settle down, but once it gets there, it’s lovely. It lists “spices,” so I’m just going to say that pepper is one of them.
It turns out that the few frags I have with a salt note are my summer ones. Still way too cold here for that. Flurries here today, but mostly unrelenting rain. 🎵”I feel like it’s rainin’ all over the world.”

I just hate not sleeping well. Throws everything off. I was awake at 3:30 this morning, but went back to sleep finally. Hope everything improves soon, including that we both get some sunshine!

        Thanks, springpansy!

btw, I don’t think I ever mentioned that I love pansies, too.

I’m doing a little road trip down to LA (from Northern CA) with stops in SLO, Ventura and Monterey. I stay 4 nights with a friend in LA. Haven’t been to LA in at least a decade!

What fun! Not a “little “ trip in my eyes, though! My DH once drove us down Hwy 1 from SF to San Diego, and it was the first time that I had gotten carsick since I was 10. 😝
