Monday scent of the day 3/25

Posted by Robin on 25 March 2024 123 Comments

It's Monday, International Waffle Day, and the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade. Birthdays today: Flannery O’Connor, Sarah Jessica Parker, Aretha Franklin. What fragrance are you wearing?

I am out of town, and commando to take a family member to a medical appointment. I'll be heading back home later today or tomorrow.

Reminder: 3/29 is Astrud Gilberto's birthday. Wear Robert Piguet Fracas (her favorite) or wear a fragrance that fits her music, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

International Waffle Day? Okay then! I’m not planning on eating any waffles, but I just sprayed on some Demeter Waffle Cone, now sadly discontinued but one of the first Demeters I ever bought, the EXACT smell of an ice-cream shop that bakes its own waffle cones — toasty grain, sugary vanilla, and hot butter, utterly delightful.

I guess they couldn’t keep waffle cone AND waffle? The line is so huge.

I just went back and read Robins’ review from 2006.
How did I miss this one being incense?
          Sounds delicious.

I haven’t tried the mint one, but like Sel Marin and Iris de Nuit. Bubblegum Chic was fun, but I believe they changed the name to Jasmine OD. Blanc Poudre II is on my list to sample since it has rice powder and more vanilla than the original (which I could barely smell).

Bubblegum Chic did have that rather unfortunate name change. 🫤

    Hello.
Sotd is Amouage Guidance. This smells so good, it is rising up fast my to-buy list.
The weather is warming up unbelievably. It’s an unbearable 31.5C today. Broke some record I’m sure. This calls for ice cream!

    Hello all!

I got up super early to watch my friend’s dissertation defense over zoom; the time zones were not on my side. She did so well! I haven’t heard from her officially but I’m confident in her success.

I’m in Agar Ebene, which is lovely but very quiet on my skin.

    Have a great day all!

Floris Night Scented Jasmine – pretty jasmine with green notes and violet leaf. Not a complicated or sophisticated scent, smells a bit like a functional product (think of a soap or body lotion in a luxury hotel), but it is lovely and cheerful.

I’m in L’eau d’Hiver. Repeating last week’s spring scents. We had snowflakes yesterday and rain this morning. This is spring in the Midwest.
I slept very well last night but strange strange dreams.
My gradtowngirl ended up getting a new laptop yesterday. Long story short, a repair would have cost almost as much as new with no guarantee to recover everything off the hardrive/ risk losing it all. It was a no brainer and all her stuff was transferred or in the cloud and she was up and running with the new one in a matter of minutes. Technology can be amazing. All’s well that ends well I guess. Especially when mom’s paying.😉😂

They won’t let me park at the hospital so I was going to cancel my contract but ran into one of the security guards here when I went out on lunch to take the dog out. He is in a van and gave me a couple of locations outside of city limits, so I’ll try that. It’s only for 5 weeks, so I’ll give it a whirl unless the police come knocking. If that happens I’ll have to cancel and leave, so we shall see. Never had a problem like this until my last two contracts. Maybe another sign from the universe it’s time to be done with this chapter in my work life. Thanks for asking. 🙂

Last evening was the Fumerie swap. I took Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit, Bois 1920 Classic, Tauer Golestan, Hermes Eau de Merveilles, and Mancera Wild Cherry. Swapped all except Ginger Biscuit, and I was surprised it didn’t go. Surprisingly the Wild Cherry was the first one to be grabbed! 4 oz of loud cherry in a tacky gold pleather bag.
I came home with 4160 Tuesdays Tyger, Tyger; Jean Desprez Revolution a Versaille; PdE Cuir Ottoman, and Guerlain Insolence, my first violet scent. It was more organized than the early swaps were, and people were limited to bringing only 5 scents. Still, with 25 participants there was plenty of choice and no duplicate bottles. Today I’m wearing Revolution a Versaille.
Yes, it’s still raining here, and I will go to the gym today as I renewed my membership last month and haven’t gone yet.

We’re still in summer time but I think the clocks change in two weeks so the mornings will be a bit lighter. I’ll wear Fracas on Friday, and the rest of the week I’ll wear perfumes that haven’t been worn in over a year. I’m starting off with Black Perfecto EDP, the one that has “Eau Florale” at the end of the name. I bought a travel spray unsniffed early last year from FragranceNet and my initial thought when I’d tried it was I’d probably end up swapping it away. Now after trying it again (more than a year later), I still feel that way. It’s nice but not something I need.

I’m in for a very busy week. Tonight we’re going out to dinner with my cousin who is visiting, plus my aunt and uncle. Tomorrow and Thursday we’re going to concerts! I’ve taken Friday off and plan to start working late Wed morning so I can sleep in a bit. We usually do nothing during the weeknights so we’ll see how this all goes haha.

Feeling the Spring today. In Chloe Vanilla Panifolia, which seems like a green vanilla to me. I gave my nose some points because at least two Fragrantica reviewers said they smelled green, though the listed notes seem different. I think what I’m smelling as green may be what is intended to be woody notes via isoeugenol. I have yet to be able to identify iso with confidence, though.

Enjoy Bois Farine! I miss when L’Artisan would make quirkier scents like this.

Friday will be easy and the rest of the week I will just wear what I feel like.

Today’s choice is Belles Rives. A gorgeous iris.

SOTD = Sonoma Scent Studio Equestrian

Love it with apple, woody resins and a little bit of leather. I wore it because deva wore it a few days ago! Deva, last I saw Laurie was enjoying her dog, but that was over a year ago.

I just came back from a Trader Joe’s run and this food should last me a good while. I have other foods of course but my freezer was looking kinda emptyish… My find of the day is a box of organic couscous at $1.79 each, no tax. I had been haunting the couscous section at Wegmans to no avail so ended up buying 2 boxes from Whole Foods. Anyway, I am all set for couscous! The previous time I went I got the chicken pot pie calypso recommended; it tasted great and I had it for 2 meals. Any TJ recommendations?

TJ’s used to have some freeze dried fruit which was some of the best I’ve tasted. Especially the raspberries and strawberries.

But it’s been several years since I’ve been to Trader Joe’s.

I have to reintroduce fruits to my diet. I did two weeks ago and then I got sick of 🍓.

Hopefully it is not because of cost because you may be surprised at some of the pricing.

I don’t even know the cost. It’s just that it always seems super busy and it has minimal parking.

There are 2 within 12 miles of me and I’ve stopped going to one of them because of parking.

I’m glad you liked the pot pie, and yes, it’s big.
More TJ recommendations: frozen food Korean scallion pancakes; Indian meals especially veg korma; frozen Chinese orange chicken–delicious!–you must either cook it in a frying pan or oven but it’s worth it; excellent TJ brie cheese; and they often have big beautiful white cauliflower heads for only about $2.00. Not to mention nice buys on wine, if you drink it–and their wine person is always eager to offer recommendations on, e.g., a nice New Zealand Sauvignon blanc or a good dry rose.

Great recommendations! I saw the orange chicken but didn’t get it – will do so next time.

My TJ’s does not have wine on offer but there is one I believe further south.

Yesterday was indeed a rainy day that shifted into snow and blizzard conditions in the evening. After all was said and done, I ended up with about 2.5 inches of the white stuff. Most of it is gone now, even though temperatures have been right around the freezing mark this afternoon.

SOTD = Vera Wang Lovestruck EdP. This would be my budget suggestion for Delta of Venus. The two perfumes are siblings, but not twins. Delta of Venus has more projection while Lovestruck is a skin scent on me.

I tried it back when it came out, and have a rollerball. I wanted a 30mL bottle, but that never happened. The guava note is pretty much front and center.

And it was exactly what the local meteorologists predicted would happen.

By the end of the week, temps should be back in the upper 60’s and sunny. Welcome to March in Colorado!

I wore Monoscent G today. Really low key but I did get reminders of it all day. Really similar to Kiehl’s Musk. Boosted my mood and that is what I needed.

Technically on vacation now but I had so many leftover work tasks to do that I decided to bunch most of them up and kill one whole day, topping it off with 2 hour meeting. Ugh! There are a a few straggler tasks left I will have to work in

I enjoyed my gluttonous birthday weekend. I had a lovely sushi dinner and many yummy baked treats including tiramisu and my favorite passion fruit berry cake. Thanks for all the birthday wishes last week!

Back to the grind this week, although my coworkers did take me out to lunch today. I’m commando but plan on squeezing in many cooler-weather scents this week before it gets too warm to wear them.

Long work day again. Commando until evening, now I’m doing a side by side of the new White Linen Legacy and the current (I assume) OG White Linen formulation.

Legacy: In the background there’s a hint of the Dread Wood Note. Just a hint. But it’s there, wouldn’t buy it. A Fragrantica commenter observed the same thing and hazarded Ambroxan. Maybe. I still need to confirm that’s what I hate. Anyway, it’s more muted than the current OG formula, as expected.

Non-legacy: Much stronger, sharper, more “vintage” vibes, aldehydes and citrus top notes more prominent.

I guess I can see the relationship between these two. Don’t care for either of them, though I understand the current WL formula is not a great reflection of its past (at least from what I’ve read, never sampled before).

I don’t think this Legacy collection will still be with us in 5 years.
