Friday scent of the day 3/22

Posted by Robin on 22 March 2024 199 Comments

It's the first Friday of Spring 2024. (Also, World Water Day and William Shatner's birthday.) Our community project for today: wear a spring floral, or any fragrance that says spring to you (if you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in Jour d’Hermès (again), although if I could find it, I'd be in Frédéric Malle En Passant (I included both in 5 perfumes: pretty spring florals).

Reminder: 3/29 is Astrud Gilberto's birthday. Wear Robert Piguet Fracas (her favorite) or wear a fragrance that fits her music, or ?

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in Un Air de Samsara, and its mix of mint, bergamot and narcissus is very primaveral. And it still has Samsara’s distinctive powdery sandalwood under all these greens and florals, albeit it is not as rich and warm as the original.

You might have heard there was a massive attack on Ukraine last night. My town is fine, but there is either complete or almost complete blackout in Kharkiv, for example. Lots of people are without electricity now.

I am always glad to read that you and yours are safe, Glannys. I love Un Air – a flanker that seems created to be fun and playful, not just to churn sales. I learned about it from a 2011 article and review about Samsara on Bois de Jasmin. Under the section, “Samsara Family, ” Victoria says “Guerlain Samsara exists in extrait, Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette, and several body products. Guerlain launched two flankers to Samsara, which were very good. My favorite is Un Air de Samsara (1995), the jasmine and sandalwood of Samsara embellished with a bright streak of green notes and mint. Less exciting, but pretty and coquettish is Samsara Shine (2001). Its tart accents of pomegranate and apricot play up the ylang-ylang and rose notes of the original, resulting in a joyful, sparkling fruity-floral blend. Although these fragrances have been discontinued, they can be found online and at TJ Maxx at bargain prices.”

I’m in Clinique Happy from a mini gwp. I always think of this one as a spring scent. My daughter was wearing the lotion when she was home over spring break and she smelled so nice. She smelled like honeysuckle to me, which is not even listed in the notes lol.

We woke up to snow just as predicted. I’m guessing about 2 inches so far. It’s not really sticking to the roads, which is a good thing. I think I will head to the big mall today. I’d like to check out some merit makeup at Sephora and I reallllly need a new swimsuit for Florida. I can’t remember how long I’ve had the one I have, which means too long! Time for an update.

Merit makeup! I can’t quite remember where I first heard of that brand, but I am currently trying and loving their Minimalist stick (not exactly a foundation, but that’s mostly what I’m using it for). Also their face blending brush is fantastic.

That’s good to know! The minimalist is on my list to try. It feels really silky when I’ve tried it on the back of my hand. It’s finding a match that is the hard part. I hate the lighting in Sephora, everything always looks different when I get it home.😏 I think I first saw them on insta. The concept appeals to me. I’ve been doing “minimalist” make up since before it was a thing. A little under eye concealer, a good mascara, blush, lip and I’m good to go.👍

Their website might actually be more helpful than trying swatches in Sephora (gasp!). It has a find-my-shade thing where you can tell it what makeup shade(s) from other brands work for you and it tells you what the closest Minimalist match is. Worked well for me anyway, and no Sephora lighting issues.

I really like Merit’s makeup – the minimalist is really good for easy complexion evening out/ correction. My favorite product of theirs is their lip oil in the shade Marrakech – I have never gotten so many compliments about a makeup product ever. I actually used it up and need to replace it, which never happens for me with lip products because I have about a billion of them.

Okay, another vote for the minimalist! I really need to try it. Did you find it was hard to find the right shade? I’ve gotten concealers before that work on the back of my hand but then when I go to put them on my face, they are not right.
The lip products look great too! I’ll have to pay attention to that shade the next time I’m in Sephora.

I actually got shade matched at Sephora by a sales associate, and she chose a shade that works really well for me in every season except summer. When this summer comes and I’ve got a bit of a tan, I’m going to go back to grab the. next darker shade.

    Hello and tgif!
Sotd is Hummingbird. I smell like a spring-appropriate bouquet. Love it.
This morning I took a stroll in my local park and I glanced at a patch of grass thinking to myself “Spring has really come” and right there, amongst the green was a four leave clover! 🍀 Google said it was something like 1/5000 chance to meet one randomly so I’d say it’s good luck! I wish everybody a lucky Spring season as well! 😊

It’s raining here at last, so we get to observe the functioning of our newly constructed French-drain/dry-creek-bed along the street. For the CP, I nearly went with Malle’s Eau de Magnolia, but in the end chose the queen, Chanel 19 EDP. Happy Friday everyone!

    SOTD = Lush Fresh As

Grapey lime! 💜 Maybe I was influenced by jalapeños’ question yesterday if I have tried the new Starbucks lavender drinks. No I haven’t but I am now inching closer to doing so …

Cruises? Sure! I go on cruises every so often, usually once a year. There was a hiatus from 2020-2022. I know not everyone shares this enthusiasm but you do you; truly, I understand. I read this article a few days ago and this could either make you want to go on one or continue with No, Thank you. I vote for the latter 🤣.

Huh, I’m honestly not surprised they have a morgue since some cruises/ cruise lines appeal to a more *ahem* mature audience. I could never do an oceanic cruise. Being out to sea and unable to see any shoreline would cause me MAJOR anxiety. Nuh-uh, no way. But I could do a river cruise. I would actually love to do a Mississippi cruise from the twin cities down to New Orleans, but alas, they are not cheap.☹️

One of the weirdest films I have ever seen is the William Shatner movie Incubus which is entirely in Esperanto and has a final scene of Shatner fighting a goat ( the Incubus) in a Church . At the start he drinks water from a well that cures his lame leg…here’s a clip but the whole movie is on you tube for Shatner fans. Or Esperanto fans. Wearing Couche du Diable for the match.

My SOTD is Delina. I wasn’t very creative and saw the pink bottle and thought “Well that looks kind of springy.” And it’s always so pretty it makes me feel nice. Just checked the notes and rhubarb is in there–that’s a springy scent, right?
Thank you to everyone who sent support about my brother the other day. He’s doing a bit better but has pneumonia, which means they have to treat that before they can continue with any more chemo. But for now he looks and feels somewhat better and that’s a positive thing.
I’ll be going over to the hospital to visit later this afternoon.

I did cave last night to the Luckyscent offer. I bought the Pierre Guillaume discovery set and a few samples. As much as I would like to have celebrated with a full bottle, I’ve come to realize I get much more mileage out of trying new things.

Mango, spinach and yogurt smoothie, took a sip, very good but I’m having coffee first.

These early days of spring is the time when I wear mimosa, I have four including L’Occitane Fleur d’or et acacia which is probably my favorite but today I chose Caron Farnesiana EDP which is my most original. Tonight it’s Badgley Mischka from a coffret which came with two little 15mls and a mirrored atomizer, very fancy and I found it for £10 on clearance IIRC and promptly bought another. It may be my only eg of the Fruitchouli genre and, it’s very fruity but well blended I find.

My mother is doing very well, but I’ve had to arrange so many things for her. and it’s exhausting. I’ve spent nearly 40 years working in government agencies, if anyone can deal with this complexity, it’ should be me. We’ve had such a mild winter and many unseasonably warm days already this year it figures that when today’s cp is to wear a Spring floral that I’d wake up, like some of you here in the Midwest, to my world covered in snow 😣! But I love to do the cp each week so I was brave and chose Guerlain Champs Elysees edp as my SOTD. It’s been called ‘Spring in a bottle’ and, looking at the notes, I can see why; the plethora of notes contain pretty much anything that blooms in the Spring. Although some have said it’s primarily the mimosa note that’s prominent, for me no one note sticks out, just a well-blended floral medley, soft on the skin, very pretty. I’m imagining what it would be like to stroll along the Champs Elysees in the Springtime – my one and only trip to Paris was in October and strolling down that street even then was pretty darn nice! Would love to do it again April or May🤞!

I first smelled it on a former coworker whom I’ve lost touch with but it always reminds me of her and the happy times we shared back then – a unique individual, wild naturally red curly hair that so matched her personality, originally from England with that very dry and slightly off-color British sense of humor, and Orthodox Jewish as well. The power of scent memories!

The overnight snow melted quickly but now we’re getting our second dose. Glad I don’t have to go out today, will be getting out my Easter recipes later and turning my thoughts to 🐣🐰🥚🌹Wishing all NST’rs a good weekend ahead!

I hope everyone is moving into relaxing/ rejuvenating weekends. Maybe it’s just me, but this week has felt long and heavy. Perhaps it’s because the sun is rising so late?

It was a tough week, but I feel lightness around the corner.

I finally decided on Chant d’Aromes, from a 2016 Bee bottle tester. It is not the powerhouse I expected, but it’s rather cool today so it may not be able to bloom. I’ll re-spritz later and hope for better results.

Chant d’Aromes is so pretty! I used to have a bottle of around somewhere. I don’t think it was ever meant to be a powerhouse; do try it again on a warmer day.

I don’t recall Chant d’Aromes being a big powerhouse type perfume when I sampled it, either. It was quietly well behaved on me.

I have a similar bee-bottle as you! I’m not shy, but it’s a pretty calm scent. I love the base, with it’s slightly warm spicy tones.

Wearing Guerlain Meteorites today, matching the violets that are poking up through the soil. It’s so nice to see the plants that are starting to come to life. Last night at bedtime I sprayed myself with Chanel No. 19 Poudre because it was mentioned earlier in the day.

    Happy Friday, all!

I love Meteorite, especially in the Spring! One of the few BUB I’ve bought. Must pull it out soon.

Violets blooming in someone’s lawn is a sweet sight!

I’m in the green floral Tom Ford Vert de Fleur today for the CP. I haven’t worn this decant in a long time so I figured I should give it a wear. This is a nice one but very reminiscent of other classic green florals that are more distinctive.

That must be why I can’t remember what it smells like!

Taking a quick break from dinner to post. Busy day today, plus my brother was checking out something with my car that I noticed. Nothing serious.

Tried out the new Frosty flavor at Wendy’s this afternoon. The Orange Dreamsicle isn’t bad. But it could have used more orange flavor in my book. Teflon kitty was a fan, and kept licking the outside of the cup.

SOTD = back in Rosabotanica again today.

I was looking for a Little Caesar’s near me and there really isn’t one. The Wendy’s near me also closed down. I’m glad you enjoyed your Orange Creamsicle!
