Monday scent of the day 3/18

Posted by Robin on 18 March 2024 153 Comments

It's Monday and National Sloppy Joe Day. The spring equinox is tomorrow. Birthdays: John Updike, Charley Pride, Wilson Pickett, Queen Latifah.  What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in a dab of Prada Man.

Reminder: on 3/22, it's spring! Wear a spring floral, or any fragrance that says spring to you (if you're in the southern hemisphere, adjust accordingly.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Aerin Amber Musk. Gotta use the winter scents while the weather still permits! This is perfect paired with a soft wooly sweater, which I do have on. Hugs, anyone? 😉

Saying goodbye to winter in Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant, one of my favorite perfumes.
We are back to cold weather, so my winter perfumes will still be around for a while.

    Happy Monday! 🌞

We don’t have any snow in the forecast, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we get some snow before permanent spring temperatures arrive.

    Néroli Plein Sud
Has anyone else tried this? I am using up my sample. This does make me dream of Morocco, but I find the Neroli oil I have from there is really strong.

A friend of mine is traveling in Morocco now and she is posting the most beautiful photos on Facebook! I can see why you loved it there so much. It’s much more varied than I realized, and she’s shown some scenes by the sea, then in an area of lovely green hills, and then the snow-capped Atlas Mountains, and now in the Sahara! Also it is a Jewish Heritage tour and I never knew there was a long tradition of Judaism there with numerous fascinating old synagogues and other historic sites.

Since spring is on its way, I’m wearing all greenery this week, why not? Today I’m in vintage Hermès Amazone EDT, by far the greenest of the three versions, with lots of galbanum up top. It’s so cheerful.

Pyramus, you smell great! I needed a green note too, to celebrate spring -so I chose De Profundis. I love the chrysanthanum note and that bit of green in the opening – I love this scent but hardly ever wear it. It’s gorgeous.

Wonderful! I’m happy to be your enabler. They’re such good body oils and such good scents, all in one. I like to use the original on my hands when the winter is particularly dry — it’s like a breath of summer.

I am smelly very rose-y this morning, wearing Hove Parfumeur Radiance, and drinking a second cup of Irish Breakfast tea.

I think there’s also some white florals in Radiance also, but I cannot tell which ones.

This scent is very cheerful to me.

Also, being on NST cheers me. It has been a difficult nine months since my Dad passed away, and caring for my Mom has been challenging at times–even though I love her very much. It is hard to find time to do the fun things sometimes. I plan to come on here a lot more often so I can keep up with new releases, reviews and everyone’s lovely comments on scent.

    Have a good Monday !

SOTM is Épice Marine, which isn’t green at all and yet manages to evoke spring for me anyway. We’re having a couple more warm, sunny, VERY spring-like days here before the rains set back in next weekend.

The weather does not exactly say spring – it is 2 degrees (Celsius), rain and snow mixed. I am wearing Kenzo Parfum d’Ete – definitely a green floral and definitely a spring scent despite its name. Powdery green notes, lily of the valley, hyacinth, jasmine – it can be suffocating on a warm day, but it is great for a day like this one.

And I had the last stitches removed and do not have to cover the wound with a band-aid anymore. It feels so much more comfortable.

Thank you! Apart from irritated skin caused by the band-aid adhesive (looks and feels like a burn), I feel fine. I am sure the irritation will go away quickly now that I do not have to cover the wound.

The last bandage I used at home is labelled hypoallergenic, but it made no difference. I never had such a bad reaction before, but then I do not remember the last time I wore a band-aid 10 days in a row. Anyway, the itchy and burning feeling is finally gone.

Yesterday I wore Keiko Mecheri’s Genie des Bois, a woody violet scent. I have had the bottle for years, and forgotten about it. There was a phase when I bought quite a few of her scents but for some reason went off them. I found this one had one dominant note that I just didn’t enjoy very much, though I can’t identify it. It might be the rosewood? It was still there 12 hours later. So I won’t wear it again, but might put on some of her Datura Blanche. What I have is a good-sized sample bottle that she gave me herself–again, long years ago, when she came one time to our Houston favorite place for niche perfumes, Kuhl-Linscomb. She was a very nice and gracious lady, and I believe the DB was a new scent at the time. Fragrantica dates it as created in 2009. It was also at around the time her line switched to the black bottles mostly used now.

The header photo is so soft and beautiful- love it! And sloppy joes? Yes please! We had these all the time for quick dinners in summer. Piping hot on a toasted bun, layered with Bar-B-Qued potato chips and topped with the other half of the bun. It was nice and cronchy! 😋

I’ve got my spring scents lined up for the week and I’m starting with FM L’eau d’ hiver. So pretty. I ordered a few samples from STC. I went through a small decant of this one a few years ago, so this cp was a good reason for me to revisit it. We are far from spring temps today though and yesterday I saw a few random flakes.
I finally (!) booked flights to Florida for madtownteen and I. We leave in 10 days! We will stay with my parents for 5 nights, which was a good compromise on time with the teen. I am really looking forward to being there, it’s the flight to get there which is the nerve wracking part, hence the delay in purchasing. Now it’s real.😰

We’re in the midst of a huge heatwave that apparently has no end in sight,so no thoughts of fall yet!
My SOTD is Spring/heatwave approved:Montale Crystal Flowers.a great hit at work as well.Had a fun perfume discussion with a patient today, she was wearing Angel which she said was the only perfume she ever wears.I told her about my “mini” collection and had a fun time talking fragrances.
    Happy Monday all!
    XO’s

It dropped a good 10 degrees and with New England, I just can’t.
I wear Snow Fairy until the temps stop in the 40s for the summer.
Winter week with Sticky Dates and Boardwalk Taffy.

Have a happy day all! Always in my thoughts.

It feels well into autumn here now. It arrived very suddenly a few weeks ago – one day walking to work felt summery, the next had a chill in the air, and that was it for summer.
I’m wearing Sana Jardin’s Tiger By Her Side.

SOTD = Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood Cologne Intense

Seriously 😍😍😍. Earthy moist orris and sandalwood. What’s not to love unless you dislike either orris, sandalwood or both. If you do, fess up!

Hmmm. Not sure. The less popular ones (and this one was not popular) seem to usually be available pretty much in many of the nooks and crannies of the mini-boutiques. I got this one about 3 years ago.

I had considered Goutal Le Chevrefeuille for the spring fragrance CP. but I jumped a whole season and sprayed on Obvious Parfums Un Ete, which I discovered last summer. It’s currently a decant but may yet turn into a bottle. With its citrusy, gingery opening, creamy matcha middle and some vanilla in the dry down, I guess it’s another gourmand that I really like, but it’s definitely not overly sweetened.

A good matcha note is hard to come by in perfume. Most of the green tea perfumes I’ve come across don’t quite get it right.

I’m wearing le labo’s musc 25 today. I tend to save it because the city exclusives are, well, exclusive, but I love it and should wear it more often.

I just submitted my work sample for the job I’m interviewing for. It was so nice to have something to focus on that wasn’t directly related to a resume or a cover letter!

I’m in a sample of Perris’s Shining Moon. I’m not sure if it is super weak or if I’m amosmatic to it, but all I get is maybe a few sugared flowers if I think about it really hard. It’s like one of those “you but better” musks, except that its just “me” and not the “but better” part. Has anyone else tried this one? I’m very curious as to what other NSTers think of it.

Tea today is a double bergamot earl gray from a bulk shop in Philly. The earl grays have been calling my name lately.

Yes, do pick some and give them a sniff! I’ve eaten concentrated grape must on top of foie gras once (delicious dish at a restaurant back in Columbus, OH), and grape hyacinth makes me think of that grape must.

L’Heure Bleue edp stood out while poking around the Guerlains and I spritzed then and there. I have a 2017 or so version and it has been a great addition to a grey and cold day. I’ve never thought of it as a love, but I’m glad my Monday-after-Spring-Break could be a “bleue” Monday. It had excellent development and stayed with me all day.

Sunny and temps in the 60’s here. I figured I’d check out a walking/biking/riding trail near me to enjoy the lovely weather. MISTAKE! There were tons of either supersized gnats or mosquitoes all over the place. I noped outta there like I was on fire. Guess I need to get some bug spray…
