Monday scent of the day 3/4

Posted by Robin on 4 March 2024 152 Comments

It's Monday and National Grammar Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in vintage Diorissimo for what looks to be a dreary — but warm! — day. (Bonus topical reading: The Case—Please Hear Me Out—Against the Em Dash at Slate.)

Reminder: 3/8 is International Women's Day... do what you like with the theme. Wear a perfume in honor of a woman who is important in your life or an important female historical figure, or wear a perfume by a female perfumer, or ? Suggested by Kanuka.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is Mauve Dupuy and Rosanna Ovalles for Dior spring-summer 2024.

It’s sunny this morning, and unseasonably warm, so I’m wearing SSS Jour Ensolleille. My nose isn’t broken for this one, and it makes me happy.

Unseasonably warm here too and I’m loving it!🌞
Headed up to almost your part of the state Wednesday (Oshkosh) for a conference.

    Hello,

It’s a nice day here-bit of sunlight, and it feels like it has some strength. Trees starting to have sap-snow melting from their base. I’m in Hermes Galop, and I’m wondering what the heck is going on with the Hermes line-have their been discontinuations? Can’t find this fragrance on their website, so I bought the last bottle on a discount site. I don’t want to panic buy but I did panic buy. Can’t find the Le Bain line, or Narcisse Blu or Gentiane Blanc.

Hope everyone has a good national grammar day 🙂

I feel like things can come and go from the Hermes site depending on their stock. At least I’ve found this true for the 15 ml travel sprays.

Yes things come and go…if they run out of something it disappears, sometimes for months. But it seems rare that they discontinue items.

They actually did have quite a purge last year. Some of my favorites are gone, but that’s just the nature of it I suppose.

Yes, I’m aware of some discontinuations too, no more Jardin après la Mousson, Eau de Narcisse bleue that smelled so good but didn’t last, some Hermessences too.

Are you sure? Mousson is on the HK site right now, Eau de Narcisse bleue is on the EU site.

Ah, this is based on a check I did on Hermès France website, perhaps there is still stock on other websites? I Hope I’m wrong in any case.

I see Galop on the website now but never hurts to have a back-up! It may depend on what country it’s set to?

I looked on the CDN site, then looked at the US site yesterday. Couldn’t find it. SO I’m glad to know sometimes things disappear for awhile-but I suspect the Le Bain might be gone for good. Never mind-I’ll be comforted by everyone’s wise words, and if Le Bain comes back I’ll indulge. Thanks for the information-I appreciate it!

    Hello.
Sotd is testing out JM’s new Ginger Beer. On my skin I didn’t get the sparkly effect one would expect, instead, there is this heaviness like a ginger syrup. Pass for me and darn, I really liked the bottle. 😂
On the other arm is Emerald Thyme. This one I get beverage. Fresh lemonade! But man is it short-lived. So that’s also a pass. 🙃

After a gorgeous, warm, sunny day yesterday in the upper 60s, we are back to a cloudy and rainy week. At least, the temperatures will be in the 50s, which I gladly welcome.

Wearing Amouage Beach Hut Woman. An ok salty, woody scent that I once again find boring. I am also saying goodbye to it.

Coffee and a slice of Panettone.
    Happy Monday! 🌻

The purge went well! 4 old dinnerware sets and 3 boxes of mugs ready for donation. I am sure they will be enjoyed by someone else. They are in great condition!
My Amouage purge is also going well! Once I am done with them, I will offer whatever I am not keeping as freebies. I am in a crazy, serious declutering mood this year. Everything that I do not use must go! 😀

I was inspired by all the NST decluttering efforts lately to drop some stuff off at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore in the next town over on Saturday. Felt good to get it done!

It is so gratifying every time I drop things off at the donation centers. Seeing empty space to better organize my own stuff feels really good. I still have a long way to go with my decluttering, but I hope to be done by the end of summer.

About to take the dog on a walk on a sunny, cool morning here in LA. Not sure what prompted me, but today’s scent is “Fleur du Male” from Jean Paul Gaultier. It’s been a long while since I’ve worn it, which is slightly puzzling since I really enjoy it.

Maybe your collection is like mine-I have a few too many fragrances, so sometimes things I love don’t get the skin time they deserve. You smell great, and I hope your walk with the pooch goes well! There’s an interesting article on The Guardian, about walking increasing creativity.

      https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/mar/04/all-it-takes-is-a-quick-walk-how-a-few-minutes-exercise-can-unleash-creativity-even-if-you-hate-it

Thanks for the article! My pup needs at least three walks a day, and I always benefit from our excursions. I wouldn’t say she’s a therapy dog in an official sense, but if things aren’t going well, or if my mind is occupied with dark or stressful thoughts, a walk with her helps clear things up.

And, yes, my perfume collection is large enough that forgetting about a favorite is all too easy!

I don’t know what it smells like but the Jean Paul Gaultier Pride Editions with artwork inspired by Keith Haring has caught my attention. I have been to Macy’s and Nordstrom but none of the SAs knew what I was talking about. One of SA’s was shocked I knew Keith Haring’s artwork and I just said it’s a complex yet simple art and he just nodded.

My take on the cp is to wear a perfume each day with the name of a woman in it.
Today I am in Angelique’s Letters from Beauty Pie. Notes are ‎TOP: Lemon Oil, Bergamot, Sweet Tobacco MIDDLE: Jasmine, Cinnamon Oil, Clove BASE: Cedarwood, Musk, Vanilla. I really get the lemon oil in the opening and it is perfect for today’s spring like weather.

While I’m on the subject of women’s names, my oldest daughter’s first name is the Greek meaning of her last name. The only people who’ve recognized this are the priest who baptized her, one of her undergrad professors and now one of her grad school professors. She said the first day when he took attendance after she answered he told her “your parents must have a good sense of humor.” lol, poor kid, she felt a little embarrassed. When I picked her name it wasn’t out of humor, I just felt like it was fate that she have that name.

Wearing Secret Obsession by Calvin Klein, which I think I like better than the original — it has this nutty, plummy thing going on. It might have faired better with a niche house than as designer though, it’s a bit weird with a hissy hairspray opening.

I only had a sample but I used it up and thought it was a really good scent. The bottle might have been problematic, kinda chunky and hard to hold, but the juice was terrific. Shame it got discontinued, although they made so much (clearly banking on a massive hit) that all the online discounters have it.

TF Lost Cherry, no reason, it just caught my eye and seemed like a fun idea.

skalolazka, you asked me a question about ink in Friday’s CP post and I didn’t see it until today: I wrote you a fairly detailed answer, and if you have any more questions, ask away.

I tried one of those B&BW body creams, Peach Bellini, and it is *really really good* body cream — extremely thick and rich, more like a butter, but doesn’t leave a greasy or tacky residue, just kind of vanishes into the skin. The scent is stronger than I expected from a quick sniff in the store, but it goes away reasonably quickly. All in all, highly recommended (especially on sale at 66% off).

For once, I have several ideas for the CP. Taking points for Dawn Spencer Hurwitz Inner Sanctum, it smells lovely on this very unseasonable warm day. No complaints, Larry the cat and I are basking in the sunshine on the porch. I need to get to work reorganizing my little house for surgery next week….right now I’d rather bask.

I know that some here have mentioned children getting married. A couple was asking tax advice on whether or not they (or the recipients) need to pay taxes on the gift of a wedding reception. The answer is no but best for the parent(s) to pay the vendors directly and not pass through the child to avoid any confusion as to the gift. (Yes, I am still procrastinating on my own returns. At least I have the software but need to download the latest versions.)

I’m planning to do a week of perfumes from women indie perfumers. I’m starting off with Ayala Moriel Bois d’Hiver. I actually finished off the sample, as it’s been in my baggie of samples with low fill level since the fall. I figure I better wear it before it’s not hiver anymore! And that’s a thunk. 😃 A very easy to wear spiced citrus and woods natural perfume.

We supposedly had snow last night, but not in our neighbourhood, it looks. Brilliant winter sunshine.

I am in YSL Magnificent Gold. As this decant empties, I’ve realized I like it a lot, if not quite a love. Even liking it was a surprise, since I’m not a vanilla person, but maybe it’s the oud. Any suggestions for something else along these lines, reasonably priced? I like the Rich Lady vibe, just not the RL price…

I’ve been trying to get my tag situation fixed but my level of annoyance at this point is through the roof. I called, after 8 mins, someone finally answered, they asked me to hold, then the phone commenced ringing immediately. I waited 5 minutes, and no one came back or answered. Called them back and waited about 10 minutes for someone to answer. Same lady, who told me I shouldn’t have hung up. I told her when she put me on hold the phone started ringing. “Well, we haven’t got our hold music yet.” Are you effing kidding me?! Then, you have to go to a specific website to download a form. I had to ask her to repeat the web address three times because she spit it out so fast I didn’t have time to write it down correctly. Then you have to fill out the form. Then you have to go to another website, email a copy of the filled out form and your drivers license to them. Then they will “call you back” so they can arrange to receive a payment of $37. Then you have mail another form to their physical address and when they get that they will mail you the tag. But, if I want it overnight, I will have to overnight them an overnight envelope, each of which costs $30, so another $60. And just to be clear about their efficiency, they emailed while I was on the phone, “trying to help” me by sending me the form, and I never received anything. Told her I never got it, she did it again, I still didn’t get it, and she said “sometimes our e-mail is slow.” I mean at this point I feel like I need a straight jacket. What do people do if they don’t have a phone capable of all this 💩?! Is it me? Am I the problem? I wouldn’t be surprised if the axis of the globe were askew today.

Anyway, I’m in Casmir today. Will be getting my taxes done later and hope that doesn’t send me over the edge. 🫠 I’m so glad I’m old and won’t see the world deteriorate into one huge electronic mess where anyone and everyone has access to all you information down to your shoe size and date of your last cycle…🤯

It’s also my birthday and I have nice little individual sized carrot cake with which to celebrate, so I’m looking forward to that!

Also forgot to add that I saw this little blurb on IG on how to check if you have unclaimed property/money. I thought it was a joke but went to the website, which was legit, did a search and found I had $250 sitting there since 2020 when I sold my house! Anyway, I filled out the information, this was back in December, and finally just got an email stating they are sending the amount via check to my current address! Wowza! 😀

Oy! Happy Birthday! And good luck with the taxes. Can you share or email me the website where you checked to see if you have abandoned property?

The issues with the DMV reminds me of a recent NYT article whose title reminds me of the lyrics of a song. Here’s a gift link I found for “It’s Me, Hi, I’m the Problem – I’m 33”. Rest assured you are not the problem. I’m pretty sure I mentioned this before but it sometimes helps to whisper that you’re “disabled” (from dealing with them) and there’s a better than normal chance of your call being answered and not dropped, which many companies now do to fake out their metrics.

Sure, it’s linked below, but it’s specific to Florida. I think can fine a website for your state by doing an “unclaimed property *your state*” and as long as you get a .gov site, you’re good. When you look at the website below, it immediately seems sketchy but it was actually legit. I think this is money my mortgage company owed me when I sold my house and for whatever reason, they didn’t have an updated address or contact info even though they DID have all those things….🙄When I first emailed them, they said it would take about 40 days to get back with me but as you can see it was more like 3 months. Good luck!

Interesting article! Every generation crucifies the one that came before and the one that came after. I will say I feel for younger folks who are trying to start a family, have a secure home, and find some work/life balance. Unless they have parents or family that offers significant help, both financially and physically by offering “a room in the basement,” the average late teen to early 30’s age group is in for a steep uphill climb.

No SOTD yet but I am championing women perfumers, female friendships, sisters, & Diptyque Philosykos (Olivia Giacobetti), so here’s a story.
My sister loves fig perfumes so I’m always on the lookout for them. Recently I found a partial bottle of Philosykos and gave it to her. She loved it (she’s also a fan of Premier Figuier). And while she was walking with her friends, one of them said, what is that amazing perfume you’re wearing?
    So she told her.
The friend doesn’t usually buy expensive things like perfume for herself, but she was smitten. Over the holidays, she received a gift card to one of the big department stores that she hasn’t yet spent, so now she’s now going to buy herself a bottle.
And thus a new perfume fan is born!

    Apple, pear and yogurt smoothie

I spent the afternoon in the West End and stopped by Space NK boutique where I tried the newish Diptyque l’Eau Papier. It’s really pretty but my 2 sprays vanished after an hour so I rule it out. Also applied some Eau Rose edt which I knew already and compared with the EDP now available. I prefer the EDT.

Hello, all, I’m wearing Profumum Confetto today which I LOVE.

I’ve been away for a while on a trip to Colorado for a long-planned ski vacation and to visit friends. It was lovely and sunny and great to see old friends as well as a “newish” friend – got to meet the lovely Jalapeno in person for an all-too-short lunch and chat. Thanks, Jalapeno! We got back Friday night and immediately spent the weekend helping Sons #1 and #3 with tidying up the house they own together to put it up for sale.

Now I’m finally doing laundry and yard work and getting recombobulated at home. Nice to be back.

After a gorgeous Saturday with a high temp around 70 degrees and lots of sunshine, it’s back to “normal” here. And that makes 50 degrees feel downright chilly! The wind doesn’t help with how it feels outside.

Clouds have rolled in during the day today, so it looks like I am sending a bit of sun somewhere else for a bit.

On grammar day… a few months back I was reading about a teacher here who had received an award of some sort. In the interview she used the word ” funner” in a sentence ( something like ” the classroom is funner now) is funner now acceptable? I don’t think it should be.

I don’t know if it’s acceptable or not, but your posts are always “funner” to me! Spell check changed it to “dinner.” 😂 On a serious note, it’s really kind of appalling how people speak today. I’m not judging, because I’m sometimes one of them. Like elegant cursive writing, it’s going the way of the dodo.
