Thursday scent of the day 2/29

Posted by Robin on 29 February 2024 157 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday, happy Almost-March and happy Leap Day! It's also National Toast Day. RIP Richard Lewis. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm seeing February out in Hermès L'Ambre des Merveilles.

Reminder: On 3/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's March. Wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SUCH weird weather we’re having! Yesterday it went up to 12°C; this morning it was raining with high wind, and then the temperature started dropping; the rain turned into snow, and the temperature is supposed to plummet to -20° or thereabouts; and then it’s going up to 12° again on the weekend! This is so not normal for the end of February in eastern Canada.

But anyway. I’m in SL Chypre Rouge, my first-ever Lutens and one of my most beloved. It makes me mysteriously content and happy.

You smell great, ad we’re getting the same weather here. I’m in Tubereuse Criminelle which is a bit much for me, for today-I’m soaked with rain and my hair looks insane lol. Looking forward to hot shower later, and maybe a sauna, if I make it to the gym.

The sky and sun are gorgeous today.🌞
I lied on Monday about our anticipated 40 degree temperature drop. It turned out to be over 50! Tuesdays high was 68 and when I left for work yesterday morning it was 14!🥶 The snow completely missed us through and headed for lillyjo.
My grad girl comes home tomorrow and I can hardly wait! Looking forward to sitting on the couch and snuggling, because you’re never too old to snuggle with your mom right?

I had just sprayed on my Bois des Iles EdT when I saw that my morning class was canceled. Perfect timing! Took off my shoes and opened up my laptop to work on my tedious chemistry homework. I have 4 hours till my afternoon class so I might even have time for a nap.

I’ll answer for Coumarin, since I seem to have seen this before he did. No, not that I can tell. It’s very overcast here. We are quite far away from the Panhandle. Supposedly they will be getting both rain and snow over there today which might help with those terrible fires.

My son starts his chemistry PhD today ( it’s the start of the university year) and for the past four years I have been trying to get him interested in making perfumes to no avail…he’s studying something to do with blebs and liposomes. Looks like the swanky apartment in Paris or Geneva and a perfume lab in Grasse or Paris is not on the cards…shame.

    Questions about products:

    1. Starbucks introduced Oleato coffee < 2 years ago and it “died”. Now it’s back as a foam topping. Have you had the original and/or the foam topping? I cannot imagine olive oil being mixed with coffee but I may be tempted to try it. Right now, I’m in the no way I’m grossed out stage.

    2. I heard about laundry soap from Bath & Body Works. 32 fl. oz. 2 for $30 but since there’s no 🍌 for scale, I have no clue what that translates to. I usually use unscented. Has anyone tried it? What do you think?

My favorite thing in the world is mint chocolate chip ice cream with a nice drizzle of really good extra virgin olive oil — so you just never know! It’s also really good on a dark chocolate ice cream, preferably with a sprinkle of peanuts.

(Have to say that nobody else likes my ice cream)

I can’t quite imagine the olive oil with coffee. Is it more for mouth feel? Since it seems like the coffee flavor would overpower any subtleties in the olive oil. My husband loves butter in coffee, but it makes me gag a little.

My Starbucks says it is not selling well. I love olive oil for dipping or for some cooking, but I can’t imagine drinking it. I don’t remember it being introduced in the past. Maybe it didn’t get here since I am sure I would have heard about it.

I just saw the laundry soap being advertised for BBW a few days ago, but do not know a thing about it. I use unscented products for my laundry.

I’m still on the fence about the olive oil topping.

As to the pistachio latte, I keep thinking of problems I’ve heard with hazelnut latte so I had been reluctant to try it. Clearly, I’ve put too much thought into Starbucks menu items 🤣.

Oh, and to answer the questions, I would try the Oleato if it was my first morning cup, just because I “need” coffee and that would fit the bill. But if I was just sipping for taste, I would want the familiar. RE: soap, I do not know. I change up between All and Tide and the scented and unscented of either.

Commando at the truck dealership. All my perfumes are in my camper which is at the dealership 20 miles away. Lifted it off yesterday and saw a bit of damage from rubbing against the truck by the tailgate area. I almost cried right then and there. 😭 Hoping to not be at the truck dealership all day but there’s quite a lineup already. Was told it “might take a while to diagnose.” I can feel more tears rising…First world problems. T-Rex is enthralled with another person in the waiting room and is being an attention seeking doggo missile. Luckily, most people are charmed by her rather than annoyed. She’s currently belly up to facilitate belly rubs by any and all passers by.

I will be smelling good after I get all my pieces connected again.

So, March again, and it’s too dark to say what the day will bring but I’m meeting my friend in the herb garden later for a chat, and then will explore the Botanic gardens as the chrysanthemums should be flowering and I want to take photos. Wearing Ambre des Merveilles because if it’s good enough to see February out, it’s good enough to bring March in.

Spent the day in GM Galoré, quite an obscure perfume which resembles No 22, so I like it quite a bit and had an easy and cheap time purchasing as no one else was interested. Tonight it’s Habanita, the modern one.

Oh, funny that there can be differences between countries on prices, for eg vintage Halston is no longer cheap here while I expect there is a lot of bottles in the US, I got my bottle long before the series so it wasn’t expensive yet. Our ebayuk gets quite a lot of Les Exclusifs, the best and safest are the slightly used ones or ex display so you can get them from between £170 and £200 (Le Lion and Coromandel are more expensive) well it’s still a lot of money for me, I got my 75ml Cuir de Russie bottle 80% full for £35 4 years ago, but like everything prices have crept up.

Yes, that was lucky for sure but it’s a very austere perfume, I have to be in the right frame of mind to wear it, very elegant though. I wear Jersey and BdI more.

Good morning from Sydney! I have tested a few perfumes so far, but no great temptation yet. It’s at least partly due to having a lot of perfume, I tried a few things that were very nice, but similar to things I already have – money saved.
It was a hot and humid day yesterday, and we were very grateful for air-conditioning. That’s not generally how it is in Wellington 🙂

Today I’m wearing Luciano Soprani Uomo – sprayed from an old bottle – early 90s, I think. I love a bunch of these classic (and classy) Italian scents for gentlemen that were popular in the 1980s – Gian Marco Venturi, Trussardi, Basile, Gianfranco Ferré, R by Capucci… They all have a bit of that 80s hairy-chested vibe, though there’s an elegance to all of them. They’re probably descendants of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, though none are quite as good.

That sounds like a very fun collection, though I am not familiar with with many gentlemen’s scents. I have and love the ladies’ version of Ferre. You also reminded me that I have a languishing mini of Capucci de Capucci – thanks, and I just might wear it tomorrow.

They all have the PR citrus/herbal opening, with plenty of oak moss and vetiver notes – some are more leathery than others in the dry down. Most are discontinued, and if they’re still available they’ve been reformulated. But you can find older bottles on eBay at decent prices.
And, yes, the original pre-reformulation Paco Rabanne Pour Homme is swoon-worthy!😊

Do report on how you like it – I have been a coffee drinker only for years, but I am learning to appreciate tea and figuring out how I like it brewed. Big discovery is that while I like coffee that is very fresh and strong enough to stand on its own, I seem to taste lightly steeped and re-steeped teas better!

I wore Bois des Iles on day 1, but went commando the last 2 days because I just forgot, even though I did pack Bois and Cuir de Russie, two of my favorite “has got her 💩 together Lady Boss” scents.

Having dinner with a scent-phobic friend before I drive home, so will remain commando until tomorrow.

    Happy Leap Day NST!

Great day today! Sunny and in the low 60’s here. An unexpected arrival of the new radiator this afternoon. I figured it would have been here Friday or Saturday at the earliest. So I am driving over to my brother’s to have him put it in tomorrow. He said it should take an hour or so. He’s replaced several radiators in his own vehicles.

Even better, I had lunch with springpansy this afternoon! We swapped a few samples, and had a wonderful conversation. Hope that her flight back to WA state is a smooth one.

SOTD = EL White Linen Legacy EdP. This might be my favorite in the sample set. Is it love? Probably not. But I will enjoy it while it lasts.

Also still using the Boyfriend Body Creme on my shins. Looks like I have a smidge that will go into March.

Very late today. Wore Angel Elixir today and it really is as disappointing as I was led to believe. 🤣 Can it be that lackluster?…I thought. It can, friends…it can.

February really was the blink of an eye this year. Been busy at work this week w/ deadlines for Fri 3/1 so haven’t posted much but each day I generally do read the poll and every day when I see the rabbit pics I have thought…OMG oh no, is it Friday already??? eheheheh then phew like Groundhog Day…I must be ready for tomorrow…I need luck and those 🐇 🐇 🐇

To be fair, Angel Elixir isn’t really bad but given name, alleged goal as a flanker and modern world of perfume w/ hundreds of perfumes we are living…it’s a complete cluster. To think highly paid people at L’Oréal developed it, got buy in and then released is quite sad. Maybe some of us NSTers should start a niche perfume incubator company…we could come up w/ a better new Angel flanker methinks…I shall propose this idea again in tomorrow’s thread too ehaeheh 😉
