Wednesday scent of the day 2/28

Posted by Robin on 28 February 2024 160 Comments

Happy Hump Day! It's also National Chocolate Souffle Day. Birthdays: Linus Pauling, Frank Gehry and Bernadette Peters. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Thierry Mugler Cologne.

Reminder: On 3/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's March. Wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Borneo, which has a chocolate note, plus I’m eating a piece of chocolate-at 11 am. I need my head examined. Actually think I need to add more protein to my diet. Happy Wednesday, everyone 🙂

Maybe add an egg on the side?
I love chocolate in the morning-usually in croissant form, Nutella or hot chocolate

My better half makes homemade muesli and he adds semi sweet chocolate chips. So chocolate in the morning is ok in my book-no head examination needed

    Hello.
Sotd is Tobacco Honey. Simple and beautiful.
I have been eyeing JM’s new Ginger Beer. I wonder how similar/different it is to Ginger Biscuit. I am not even sure if it will be in my local JM! The picture of the bottle alone is already very tempting.

I am curious about the Ginger Beer vs. Ginger Biscuit too. My local JM didn’t have it as of this past weekend. They did have the Blossom Collection behind the counter and let me try them when I asked, but they were not out on display yet.

I hear you on that. Chanel has raised their prices again. It’s at least $10 for the non exclusive stuff and at least $50 for the exclusive line.

Chanel has always jacked thier priced up for the Exclusifs line a fair bit. Just remembering 10 years ago a 6.8 ounce bottle ran about $200. Think Chanel has gotten greedy.

Wow! They seem to be raising the prices at a rapid rate. Probably one of the reasons I keep my 31 RC hidden away and just bring it out occasionally. I don’t want to run out nor do I want to purchase it again if the prices keep skyrocketing.

I’m wearing Acqua di Scandola, from a new decant that I received yesterday. Nice! Spring has arrived in East Texas, according to the blooming fruit trees, bluebonnets, and wisteria.

It’s an early morning for me. We’re flying to Sydney on a 6.30am flight, we had to get up at 2.30am! We’re now in the departure lounge and it’s 5am.
There is nothing of interest perfume-wise at the Wellington duty free, but I am wearing Diorling. It’s a great fragrance for every occasion.

Grey and windy today, roughly a 30-degree temperature drop from yesterday, but now we are seasonal. I’m throwing on a hoodie sweatshirt and will keep smiling. Thinking Spring with Champs Elyees epd and edt. I’ve not tried the Heritage version. I like the vintage edt best, then the edp, then the newer shoulder bottle edt. Still wonder what they were thinking with that plastic collar – perhaps there was a quality control issue with that bottle shape? Happy Wednesday, all!

I’m in MCMC Noble today, going for a comfort scent after the Rien debacle yesterday. I knew it was bad when at dinner I mentioned that trying it had been a mistake and Mr. Ockeghem said, “So that was the really strong scent I noticed when you went out this afternoon.” This is not good because a) Mr. Ockeghem pretty much never notices / comments on scent and b) he was sitting all the way across the living room as I went out the door in the entryway.

At least on my skin Noble *has* incense, and no plastic! I need the comfort today, anyway, on a cold, rainy day. Yesterday’s “snow” (which came down but didn’t stick) is gone, at least.

I wasn’t sure what to wear but with Gaynor flying across to Sydney I thought of Goldfield and Banks Silky Woods, as Botany Bay is where Sydney airport is ( named by Joseph Banks on Cook’s voyage). Cold and dark here, sunrise is after 7 am now, and summer is over.

Narciso Rodriguez White Cube, shower gel and lotion. When I get home from the doctor, I’ll add the perfume.
Record high yesterday of 72F, reality check of 24F and lake effect snow right now (it was 44F when I got up, so the temp is still falling), all with strong, gusty wind, brrr.

Raining. Again. Still. Various intensities, from pounding down to a steady sprinkle, to intermittent and sporadic. Usually when it slows and I get a coat on to step outside, put one foot out the door, it then starts bucketing down again and back in we go. Ugh. It could be snow or ice, so there’s that…🫤

I do have to journey into the Heart of Darkness today (ie: Seattle proper) to drop my camper off at the dealer so I can then take my truck to the truck dealership in the morning to get some work done. Both of these locations are in seedy areas of town. I’ll be hoteling it tonight. I prefer not to go, but things must get done. My tag has not shown up yet, and even though I have proof of current, up-to-date registration, I prefer not to get pulled over by the Popo if I can help it. The lady as the post office loudly scolded me in front of the long, long, long line of people yesterday when I went to check to see if the tag arrived. “ONE MONTH! ONE MONTH ONLY!” with a wagging finger and a constipated expression. Yikes…

Currently wearing JM Ginger Biscuit because it’s simple, easy, and uncomplicated.

I will credit yours truly for helping the nephew learn how to pronounce the letter “L”. I swear he must have thought that his auntie was crazy for making him sit in front of her and with her going “la la la” over and over again, but hey, it worked!

My mom is gone seven years today.

The week she died I was wearing a lot of Box of Eels and on my flight home after her funeral and tidying up her things I bought the EDP on the plane. (excellent WIFI, I guess)

So I will wear the EDP for her (and me) post shower today.

My edt is at the bottom of the bottle, but I won’t pay the newer cost that Chanel is asking. Will wait for a trip or for a friend to come home duty free.

    22 degrees here and snowing.
The weather lady said something I have never heard in February. She said ” I think it’s possible this could be the last snow of the season” I am used to seeing snow through April. Time will tell.
My sotd is Shalimar Souffle Intense. I don’t wear it much, but enjoy it when I do.

Apple, pear, mango and yogurt smoothie

Today Ivoire 2nd version which does smell like a sweet comforting American soap, Caress precisely for me while people on Fragrantica say Dove, the pink one I suppose. Tonight it’s Miller Harris La Fumée Maroc, there have been many flankers but this is the only one which doesn’t have the cumin of the original. Maroc smells of stone fruit and incense and saffron to me.

I am in a perfume slump. Help! I can’t find anything I want to wear. Maybe it’s mood in general or some weirdness in the weather or my aching jaw after dental work Monday but I didn’t wear any last week either. ??? Help!!!

On a positive note, Trader Joe’s chicken pot pie is fantastic! If you cook it in the oven, not the microwave, the pastry on top gets delightfully crisp and flakey. It’s also very big and will last two or three meals, easily.

I’m sure pain doesn’t help wit enjoying perfume, especially facial pain and nerve pain after having a dentist yanking around your teeth. My only suggestion would be to dial it back to the most simple, single note perfume you own, probably floral…something that is simple and just ‘ pretty’ but not complex, or heavy. One of the Hermes Garden series, or maybe an iris or honeysuckle, or lily or violet …like a spring flower (not a rose). Hope you feel better soon.

Your love of TJ’s Pot Pies is equal to my love of Costco’s frozen cheese and spinach ravioli. A bag lasts me 5-6 dinners and the taste is fantabulous! It comes with a Parmesan and herb packet to mix with olive oil and toss the ravioli in. Best pasta I ever had. I remember pot pies with great fondness since we ate them occasionally when I was a kid.

My dad has the mobility issues, the other resident has both mobility and dementia issues. They did not ask for a waiver, she was not allowed to leave the facility alone but I was allowed to take her out under my supervision. It was quite an adventure to get her banking done due to her cognitive issues – they asked her security questions she couldn’t answer, like her son’s birth date and telephone number.

Wearing a sample of Jorum’s Pedimento on eone wrist and Feve Gourmande on the other. I don’t think any of us would confuse one for the other, but they do have a similar gourmond vibe. FG is sweeter, with what reads to me as a honey note, whereas Pedmiento is drier with a prominant hazelnut note on top of tropical florals. Both are beautiful.

Tea today is a new-to-me chocolate strawberry black tea. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the stawberry in there, but the that bit of tartness gives the tea a pleasant lift that makes it moreish.

Oy! I haven’t worn this in ages even though it is front and center whenever I walk into a to be cleaned room. Anyway, this is an excellent choice for today’s nothing to write home about yucky weather. This goes to the why don’t I wear this more often category!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/C36CZ_wRjKt/?igsh=eHB5eXQ0dnplazlm

In other news, I managed to fill 3 bags of clothes, 1 bag of miscellaneous items and 2 K-cup boxes of mugs (6 to a box). Could I have done more? For sure! I was just happy to do it. I will schedule another pick up in about 2 weeks but I need to sort out at least 2 bags worth of clothes and 1 box of kitchen items before I do that. Please continue to wish me luck!

I’m giving Philtre a full wearing today. The opening is a bit much for my sensitive nose with its intense clove note, but once I put long sleeves on my arms and wait a bit for it to mellow, it’s so good. I’m still on the fence about whether it’s full bottle worthy, but it is a very nice perfume. If something splits it at the next split meet, I’m sure I’ll buy a decant.

I had hoped that I would have a nicely productive day today. Not quite. I noticed the smell of coolant when I first started my car. After some driving, I noticed that the radiator leak had gotten bigger. I was able to get a few things done, and get home safely. What a pain.
