Monday scent of the day 2/26

Posted by Robin on 26 February 2024 137 Comments

It's Monday and National Pistachio Day. Birthdays: Victor Hugo, Levi Strauss, Jackie Gleason, Fats Domino, Johnny Cash. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Vilhelm Parfumerie Purple Fig.

Reminder: On 3/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's March. Wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Babycat.
Dunno what I’ll be wearing on Friday but I can do with some good luck for March!

Today I’m in CdG Carnation, the spiciest, carnationiest thing ever.

I decided when the new year rolled around that I was going to try to wear every fragrance in my collection, and I was writing the scents down in my journal, but after a couple of months it gets increasingly time-consuming to check for repeats, so I made a spreadsheet. Only one repeat so far — I’ve worn Habanita twice. At some point during the year I should have a complete list of everything I own. (Is this weird? It feels sensible to me but I’m maybe not the best judge.)

I think it’s great if you can do it. I have too many and still haven’t finished cataloging. I got to 845 and ran out of steam.

It’s not weird, or so says this weirdo. But then I have a spreadsheet of everything, from my full bottles down to my samples.

      It’s a VERY LARGE spreadsheet.

Yes, I have a problem. But I know I’m among friends here.

I pulled my Parfum d’Empire bag out of my decant box today, and will wear these all week. First up is Cuir Ottoman, which is not my favorite from the brand, mainly because I’m not a fan of leather.

Happy Monday and almost the end of Februweary! Winter is getting close to being over. One more month and then I’m heading back to Montréal for the summer. I’m wearing Blend Oud Sana, which has no oud and is a yummy gourmand. I also had a chocolate croissant for breakfast. 🙂 New washing machine coming at noon today, crossing fingers it is mechanically sound and I will be happy with it for many years to come.

We hated our front loader too. It was really hard to find a top-loading replacement with an agitator. Finally went with a Maytag and I’m reasonably happy. My mom has a top-loading Speed Queen washer, but it’s a commercial machine — my family’s business is washers and dryers for apartment complexes so Mom had an in.

Thanks SheriG. Maytag seems to be in many laundromats so I’m guessing they are made to last long. We will probably go with Speed Queen when it’s time. Made right here in WI! They don’t have all the fancy bells and whistles but seem to be real work horses made for the long haul.👍🏻

I have a stackable Speedqueen washer and dryer and love them. They are laundromat models and are great for big loads. How we have so much laundry for 2 people is beyond me.

It’s an LG front loader. I have been very happy with the one I have in Montréal so I ordered another one for the house in San Diego. The old one we are replacing is a Maytag top loader, which has been good, but because machines use so little water nowadays I feel like the front loader gets the clothes cleaner with less wear on the fabrics. I like Maytag and LG brands best in general but that’s just what I’ve had luck with.

I’m wearing H24 EdP from Hermès. I didn’t much care for it when I first tried it a year ago, but it’s growing on me – now I kind of dig it.

My daughter, a budding perfumista, is visiting from Portland, and we’re planning a field trip to Scent Bar on Beverly Boulevard – she’s never been. Lucky for me, she’s very understanding of her Fragrance Evangelist father.

Oh my, I am your dental appointment twin, at 1 pm (soon)! I dread it. I got halfway through getting prepared for two new crowns with the temporary crowns fitted and then my jaw locked in the “out” position and I could not manage to stay in the chair. What a nightmare (I have TMJ). So my dentist didn’t quite finish the molds for the new permanent crowns and I’ll go through all the awful Novocain shots today and have to do it all again in a few weeks when the new crowns come in. I feel your pain (almost literally!) and hope yours goes well.

I am wearing just a dab of my Initio Devil Tender on one wrist.

I’m wearing Clair de Musc for a pre op appointment today. Will change to Commodity Milk+ later, there was a sizey deluxe sample in the February Allure box and I haven’t really tried it yet. It might have the dreaded Ambroxan.
I limped through Walmart this morning and found some loose crop pants on sale so now I’m ready for physical therapy. My surgeon spent a lot of time talking about the amount of pain after surgery, and that I should be aware of what I’m up against. I wasn’t nervous about it but I am now, a little.

My daughter gave me the Allure box subscription for a year 😊I have really enjoyed it although of course some months are better than others. You do get at least 3 full size items in every box which is a good deal imo. Now I’m mildly obsessed with skincare, the hair stuff goes to my husband.

Saw the rabbits and thought I got swept up in a time warp and it was March 1st already! 😅 I’m worried about my brain because I got my auto tag and registration last week and put them in a “safe place” until it stopped raining and I could place the tag. Went to do just that the next day and can’t find the 🤬 tag anywhere. Had to order a duplicate set which they will not order tracking for, so I’m sitting on pins and needles hoping it gets here before my current tag expires. See what I mean about my brain?!

I’m wearing DSH Chinchilla today. My travel spray is half gone, and while it’s a delightful scent I probably won’t replace it.

The sky is an ominous leaden grey, hanging low and unleashing a bunch of snow and frozen mix just east of where I am. 37F but thankfully no wind! I hope everything stays east of me. Or north or south or west…anywhere except where I am! 😉

I mentioned potentially getting qualified to be a mediator. There’s a 40 hour basic training course that I am seriously contemplating. It is 5 days over a 2-week period. The cost ($320 per day) for this would be unexpected; however, I feel that it doesn’t hurt to take the course as part of qualifying to be a mediator. I will think about it over the next few days and I am close to registering for it. The best part? One does not have to be a lawyer to qualify!

Has anyone here been a mediator and/or know someone who is? What are your thoughts?

My question is: is there a demand for mediators at this point? In what particular category or field? Can it be done remotely? And what is the compensation like? $320 per day is quite a bit of money for training imo. Does this get you the certification you would need to start? …It would be worth it if demand and compensation are on the higher end.

Other things to consider are: who would likely be hiring you as a mediator? How large is that market? and Do you have the other qualifications/experience that market will be looking for. For example, back when I was at a law firm, if one of my clients was looking to mediate an environmental pollution issue, we would consider mediators who were former judges (and for matters involving 9-figures+, we might limit that to former federal judges), or if there were highly technical/scidentific issues, we would consider scientists (hydrogeologists, biochemists, etc.) who had experience performing remediation on similar issues. In other words, the mediator certification was the minimum qualification, and it was the other qualifications/experience that would lead us to hire one mediator over another. If your area of expertise is relatively niche and there are a lot of disputes that require that type expertise as part of mediation, then go for it!

I reached for Cinéma,. haven’t worn it in a while as I prefer it in early spring, it’s a yellow scent for me and makes me think of almond blossom and tonight it’s Balenciaga Rumba, a powerhouse, baroque perfume which I got on clearance, 100ml, it was £9.99 says the box, prices like this won’t happen again.

I have almost purchased Rumba several times, your “baroque” description is perfect.

It’s quite unique I find and still relatively affordable too, if you do buy it Balenciaga version is the one to go for.

In Shalimar millesime vanilla planifolia. I haven’t worn it in a long time and it’s lovely.

I’m in between weight lifting machines at the gym- hoping to get into a routine with gym and pool as I feel a bit like a bear preparing for hibernation- not good!

Good luck keeping that gym routine! I have been pretty good now about 3 times a week, but I am doing yoga & sauna, which is a far cry easier than weights & pool.

I do weights at home but I ought to check out the machines at the gym, I have not done that in years.

Testing Donna Karan Cashmere and Palo Santo today.
Can smell the peach opening…nice… and then onto cashmeran. Will file report for you investigative nose journalists later today or tomorrow. Definitely a winter weather scent for me.

Spent three hours weeding my courtyard yesterday and oye my back is feeling my age today. The weeds were as high as a buffalos eye due to the rains and we have more coming so I took advantage of a dry afternoon.

Attended a four year olds birthday party, too. And drove from one end of Los Angeles to the other and back in order to do so. It was a great reminder of why I love LA. Listened to Sunburn by Laura Lippman along the way, a good fast book.

Things are moving along for the Executive Fellowship role.
I was actually asked to interview for a second fellowship position, so I am crossing fingers and toes that one will be for me.
Final interviews take place the week of March 18.

I’ve only ever seen Los Angeles traffic on TV. I couldn’t do it.
( and I mostly see it on 70’s TV shows so it’s probably worse now. Lol)

Had an outpatient procedure this morning, but I couldn’t resist a bit of perfume comfort, so it was a tiny spritz of L’Heure Bleue. All went well, and it was good news – no follow-up needed! Call me relieved.

I never had until I moved to the PNW about 10 years ago. They’re clusters of small blossoms that smell very lemony, sweet, and sharp mostly to my nose. I love how you can smell them in the air a good 10 feet away.

Really late posting today. I discovered my car had a radiator leak this afternoon, and got in touch with my brother. He and I were looking at it, and planning what to do next. The car is still currently drivable (fingers crossed).

First thing is find & get a replacement radiator. Then someone will have to install it.

The leak seems to be rather small right now, and just started in the past couple of days, from what I can figure.

Late, late post. Commando most of the day, then threw on Twilly, which was the 2nd bottle I purchased after falling down the rabbit hole. It doesn’t stand out in my collection, now, though.

I tried the first flanker (ginger), hated it (some horrible wood note), haven’t tried any of the other flankers yet.

I might give it away, but it does serve a nostalgic, “see how your perfume tastes have evolved” purpose.

Nice choice! I like Twilly quite a bit, although I seldom wear it. As a collector, I would say, don’t give it away yet! 😁 Or if you decide to, make yourself a small decant to keep first.
