Today’s Alkemia fragrance is actually intended primarily as a layering note, but I am wearing it alone. The de Ceylon is quite a strong black tea note on my skin.
Alkemia is such a good line.
I didn’t even know it was Flag Day in Canada, which shows you what an unimportant holiday it is to us, though there’s talk of making it a national holiday, which I don’t think will have any traction. I mean, it’s a great flag, really distinctive, and I’ll put one up on the balcony for Canada Day, but a whole holiday for a piece of fabric? Nah.
I’m wearing Boucheron Trouble, which is entirely untroubling: it’s jasmine-tinged root beer is what it is, and very nice.

I loved Singles. I rewatched it recently and still really enjoyed it. However, I wish I hadn’t revisited Reality Bites – I loved it when it came out, but rewatched it as 47 year old me and spent the entire movie thoroughly annoyed by Winona Ryder’s character.
I need to watch Singles again with my twenty something, I think she’d like it.

I’m in Borneo 1834, which never fails to put a smile on my face. Deep patchouli, earthy cacao, and a warm golden base. I have both a Gratte-ciel and an export bottle and each are quite lovely.

I don’t have many almond perfumes so am going with the other half of the equation, bees ( could also be water) . Wearing Prairie Nymph for its beeswax and honey notes, such a happy perfume and perfect for my day which includes a drive west , to inland Otago which is hot and dry, and smells of wild thyme. Does anyone know what Smell Bent Brent is doing these days? I’ve enjoyed a lot of his perfumes and hope he gets back into it.

I like it more. My sinuses are the happiest they have been in years. More sunshine is always a Good Thing in my book. And even though humidity can be on par with the mid-Atlantic region, it does not feel nearly as bad.
Not a fan of the occasional dip into subzero temps, but I knew that would be part of Winter weather here.
I will probably miss the vivid red maple trees when Autumn comes. They are in short supply in Colorado.

Apple and yogurt smoothie
17C and sun today, it feels like spring. I chose Mandorlo Di Sicilia today, probably my oldest almond perfume bottle, it has those lovely ADP citrus notes on top, then almond, when it wore off – about four hours – I applied Chabaud Orangerie Musicale, orange blossom, Neroli, almond, Chabaud is known for its gourmands, I have a small bottle of Lait Concentré from 3 years ago and received a sample of OM with it. I thought I had enough of orange flower perfumes but it offered something different and I ended up with a bottle, it doesn’t project much but is quite long-lasting.

Cracked open my cellophane wrapped Lancôme Jasmins Marzipane to do almond again today. I think this is discontinued? I bought it in big sale over a year ago and hadn’t opened it. My first bottle was bought at BG during one of those fun group sniffing outings.

Dentist Day – er – first root canal, but I found the procedure part was not so bad nor different from many fillings. I am still a bit numb and I took a wallop of ibuprofen at their suggestion so, so far so good. I wore just a tiny spritz of Kai but in all the “excitement” I did not notice it. Back home, for the CP, I’m smelling like almond cake in LPRN So Frenchy edp, the one with the dark blue stripes. I like it more than the original, but Black Perfecto is still my favorite.
I had my first root canal in November and I didn’t find it awful either. I wonder where all the scary stories came from?
I think many people have a fear of dentistry anyway, and I know the first root canal I had done was really brutal because the dentist was (we learned later) incompetent due to some small addictions. But like most things, the anticipation of the pain is 100X worse than the actual procedure. I didn’t learn until I was middle aged that my nerve pathway was a bit irregular and I was never getting completely numb from the lidocaine.
I think things have improved a lot since the 80/ 90s when I had my first one. Having better imaging/ images on the screen makes it better for the dentist to see their work in progress, I’m guessing.
The one and only root canal I had wasn’t terrible, either. I was very friendly with Mr. Advil afterwards for 3 days or so. That was the only painkiller I needed.

I’ve had roughly 9000 root canals. For me it’s the how long and invasive it is. I don’t like the feeling of being numb and always feel out of sorts afterwards. I also hate the cost.
Glad it wasn’t too painful! I’ve had 2 of them, they weren’t as bad as some fillings I’ve had done.
Wearing some residual fragrance on my jammies and that’s it. Looked out the window in the middle of my shift last night and it’s snowing?! Didn’t last long and has now turned to dreary, grey, cold, miserable rain because, Washington! I took a nap for a few hours and just woke with a raging headache. T-Rex is telling me she’d like to go run a half marathon, weather be damned. I’ve eaten a chicken and cheese quesadilla (shared it with you know who) and taken some Motrin and probably will go back to bed. I have a 💩 schedule through March- on one, off two, on two, off one, on one, off one…like that! Ugh! I feel achy and irritable and thought I’d share with you all. No thanks necessary! 😂

I wore Guerlain Insolence today in the mistaken belief it has an almond note. But it doesn’t–just tonic might be what I was thinking about. In any case I enjoyed it.
This afternoon I happened to visit Kuhl-Linscomb (for another reason), our local fun place with niche perfumes (and much more), and I sprayed on a few Akro scents. I haven’t tried any before. My test cases were Bake, Smoke, and Haze. I am liking Bake so far, Smoke not at all, and Haze to some small extent. For some reason lately I only really want to wear dark, incense, smoke, or pepper scents. Flowers are out! Citrus, I say no! Fruits, yuck! Not sure what’s prompting this but it’s ok, I’ll learn from this phase.
My Insolence has the almond note. Thankfully I have a partial bottle from an NST swap.
Insolence is also a great, fun scent!
A lady came in the store today and said the Dog food she bought had given her Dog an allergic reaction and he had to go to the Vet. She said we needed to pay the bill. We advised her to contact the manufacturer. She said she was going to get a lawyer and we said ok. She didn’t give much detail of the situation. I am curious how you all would side on this?
I wore Coco edt today because it snowed 5 inches in 4 hours here, and it’s my comfort scent.
“Contact the manufacturer” was the right response. I hope the lawyer laughs in her face. Stores are not liable for that kind of thing.

Hi folksies! Long time no post, but I’ve been reading, usually a few days behind. I’ve been sick for most of this winter with virus after virus, sinus infections, coughs that never leave, etc., and now I seem to be coming down with yet another cold. Ugh. Remember how at the start of the pandemic everyone was being super careful, social distancing, masking, etc.? I didn’t get sick for at least a year then, but now it feels like the germs are getting their vengeance on me. I went back to masking when in public but it didn’t help this time.
Anyway, I don’t have much in the way of almond perfumes, so I’m working on my Fzotic testers this week. I liked Vetiverissimo but I already have a big bottle of Encre Noire, so I’m really set for vetiver. I liked Zdravetz a lot. Today I’m in Ummagumma, which is less sweet than I remembered. I think I don’t like tobacco as a note, but I’d need to smell it alone to confirm.
I missed the reading poll, but I wanted to mention that I’m reading Unruly by David Mitchell and finding it lots of fun, and way more informative than I expected. It’s about England’s kings and queens from the early Anglo Saxons to Elizabeth I. Ever heard of Aethelred the Unready? Apparently, back then, it meant “poorly advised,” which isn’t much better as a name to be remembered by!

Started the day in BFMV (acquired during the recent sale), later sampled two of the Sylvaine Delacourte musc samples, plus 3 Lalique cheap thrills (because I decided I finally needed an FB of Encre Noir, and then you’ve got to add something else to get free shipping, so.)
Long work day: 11 hours, plus I went to the gym for an hour. Now I’m relaxing with a glass of wine. Looking forward to the weekend, which includes dinner and a comedic play with friends tomorrow night, and a dance workshop on Sunday.
