Today I’m redolent of L’Artisan Parfumeur Eau du Navigateur, an 18th-century cargo ship full of precious goods — rum, tobacco, coffee, spices, woods. One of the first niche scents I ever bought, and still going strong decades later.
Yum, that’s just a great scent. And bet it would sell if they reintroduced it.
I’m in another Alkemia fragrance, this one is called Silver Sky. Pretty.

I’m in Parfum de Therese, since I didn’t wash this sweater from the last time it was cold. I pulled it out and it was still perfumed beautifully. Lucky I didn’t sweat through this my sweater last time I wore it!
I have a calculus test today and while I understand the concepts, I am still having a bit of anxiety about keeping all the techniques straight.

Happy Mardi Gras! I made a prizewinner of a gumbo for tonight’s party, and Biscuit and I made a beautiful king cake that’s also a riff on a Persian love cake — since Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and I wasn’t going to do *more* baking. So it’s flavored with cardamom and studded with pistachios and iced with a rosewater icing, with candied yellow and purple violas and chopped pistachios sprinkled over it for the traditional Mardi-Gras-colors thing.
I’m in Cuir de Gardenia for the first part of the day, which will involve being on campus for a scientific writing class and then a lunch date with Boyfriend, and then a trip to the seafood mart for some dungeness crab. We’re emerging from the jeans-and-sweaters monotony into somewhat more springish weather so I’m celebrating in a Sézane mini skirt, tights, and vintage knee-high boots plus various layers up top. I always want to dress nicely for days on campus, but I’ll be surrounded by undergrads in sweats and no doubt will feel overdressed…

Kiss Me Intense for the bitter almond and vanilla. I do love this scent. Almond is one of my favorite notes…in all its forms.

Sotd is Beautiful.
Bought a big bag of artisanal Swiss chocolate from Läderach. It’s those chocolates that you choose the flavours and they break off chunks from slabs and weigh. I bought 350g in 5 flavours. It will definitely last me through Valentines, not that I am really celebrating; chocolate is always welcome, right?
Chocolate sounds amazing. I have been wearing my new Amouage Overture recently which I bought after you mentioned it ( enabler pin). It’s great, perfect for the start of autumn with its apple notes. My husband smells beer when I wear it, which is interesting…I guess it’s the fermented apple ?
I really do love Overture. Interesting that he got beer, to me I get fresh apple + liquor!

I treated myself to the Perfumer H/ Choosing Keeping perfumed notebook after reading about it. I fill a lot of notebooks each year so I figured that the vast expense (£65 notebook, £40 shipping) would be worth it if the book really was scented ( cedar, herbs) and the paper really was fountain pen friendly. It arrived yesterday and it’s a beautiful looking notebook ( which it should be for NZ $120) but the lack of scent is very disappointing, though not especially surprising. If I press the page to my nose there’s a faint “secondhand paperback book” scent, nothing more, certainly a lot less than say a standard paper ( nose blowing ) tissue that might have, say, eucalyptus or aloe Vera scent. The paper is also on the light side so although the ink doesn’t bleed using an EF nib, it does show through and would be pretty hopeless with a broader nib. It contains 5 extra marbled paper sheets, which the blurb says could be used for drawer liners which made me think they must be bigger than the notebook itself ( ie. folded) but they are approx. A5 in size. Just in case anyone else was tempted, I would say don’t buy it for the possibility of scented paper. Wearing Mitsuoko which never disappoints.

My biggest disappointment is the paper quality, always a problem when buying online or if the notebook is sealed in cellophane when you buy. It would be really helpful if a loose leaf of paper was included so you could try out all your pens on the paper sample, without messing up a page in your bound journal.
I do not write with fountain pens but I do like nice paper. That is another rabbit hole, though… and I am in too many rabbit holes lately! Must get out of the rabbit holes! But nice paper is nice.
I say make your own scented notebook you know you’ll absolutely love. Spritz it generously in a favorite perfume and put it in a ziplock plastic bag for a few months and store it at at the bottom of a drawer or in a closet. Do not mark it in any way to identify the perfume. Dig it out in 6 months and go to town. 📕 📖 📚 Also, cheap! 👍
I thought of that but will do some tests as staining the paper, or making the surface unsuitable for ink pen ( skipping ) could be a problem. It would work for pencil, I think.
CSP Vanille Café today. ☕️ They do comfort scents so well. I’m feeling a bit off today, so this one is just what the doctor ordered.

Revisiting my sample of Bianco Latte today. Quite nice and giving myself points…almond is not a listed note but many cite it on Fragrantica in their reviews…maybe the coumarin. To FB, or not to FB, that is the question… 😆

Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
I went full on CP as I discovered that I have at least 12 almond perfumes, well 3 are the Les notes gourmandes from Réminiscence, I wore Héliotrope recently and won’t wear it this week. But today I chose Amande Persane by Roger & Gallet which wore off by lunchtime but tonight it’s l’Instant Magic, that one is potent almond but there is also delicious citrus at the top, I’m more than halfway through my 30ml bottle but I have a backup since I enjoy it so much.
Aurora, I tried Chloe Luminous today. I thought it was a very happy and pretty perfume. I had more than one perfume on though, so will test again on another day.
Yay for testing so many perfumes, the one I liked so much last summer is actually Rose Naturelle Intense but I bet the one you tried is lovely too because I want to try all their natural perfumes, no ambroxan in them.

For the CP, Shalimar MT. The almond note gets me past the barber shop aspect of tonka that goes wrong for me. I’ve been making myself take advantage of our weather with some longer walks. We’ve had very sunny mornings and though chilly, I’ve bundled up and thus enjoyed warmth and sunshine. Very good for February in these parts. I just finished reading Hook by John Pielmeier. Loved it!

We got the promised snow (4-5 inches), our second or third one of the season. It almost seems like we forgot how to deal with snow!
The NY Times had an article on a mushroom growing on a frog, a very unusual phenomenon. I will try to link to it in a comment but somehow, it did not give me a native link. You can just google it with “nytimes frog mushroom”. Anyway, the reason I brought it up was I chuckled at this sentence “But even though the frog was alive and seemingly well at the time of the discovery, there’s no way of knowing without investigating further whether the fungus was negatively affecting the animal or whether it was in danger of croaking.” 🤣
Snort, chortle, etc.! But I am sure the frog is going to be fine, fine as frog hair.

Late today. I wore Lyric, which has nothing to do with the CP, but I thought it might wear close enough to be in a room for a conference. I’m so out of it on things we used to do — I was thinking last night, do I need to take my work nametag with me to identify myself, even though this isn’t a work event? And then early this morning I remembered that you register and they give you a nametag. 😀
Anyway, it was a DEI / women-focused thing put on by a UN group and the speakers were pretty inspiring, so there’s that.
