Tuesday scent of the day 2/6

Posted by Robin on 6 February 2024 116 Comments

It's (Teapot) Tuesday. Also Waitangi Day, Bob Marley’s birthday and National Frozen Yogurt Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm copying skalolazka's Monday choice, in L'Artisan Parfumeur Dzongkha. Tea at the moment is Tali's Masala Chai by Art of Tea.

Reminder: 2/9 is Lunar New Year's Eve...wear an auspicious fragrance to ring in the Year of the (Wood) Dragon, or burn or wear incense to honor your ancestors.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Dragon Yixing Teapot by Ronghua Wu in dark green Mo Lu Ni Clay ("The lid, handle and 10-hole spout of the teapot features a dragon theme, symbolizing power and honor...The attention to detail is incredible, distinguishing this teapot from similar works by other Yixing artists") is $384 at at Teasenz.

In a thorns-and-all rose mood so I’m in SL La Fille de Berlin, my favourite kind of rose, dark and dangerous. Man do I ever love this.

My poor daughter, who is in her 30s, has shingles 🙁 so I’m going to go stay with her for a few days while her husband is working. I remember my grandma having shingles on her face, even in one eye, at least my daughter’s is confined to her back.

Being in your 30’s is young to develop shingles. My dad and grandmother had it and they were miserable for the duration of it. Hopefully she gets better soon.

I’m in the dregs of B683 from yesterday. After a shower, I’ll probably find my Rima XI sample, ya know, the one that doesn’t seem to run out? Fine by me. I need something light since I have a Rummikub date with some ladies here.

Back at it this morning with Ramon Monegal Mon Patchouly. Thunk! I smell…manly. 😬

That’s one of my favorite teapots so far! A bit pricey for me but if I were a serious tea drinker (versus the Celestial Seasonings tea drinker I actually am) I might consider it.

Someone asked me how to pronounce this…
‘x’ in xocóatl is pronounced like an English ‘sh’, and the accent should be on the middle ‘o’

SOTD = Les Indomedables Vanille Havane

Seriously, another one that I need to wear more of. This thought is helping me avoid getting tempted by all the wonderful daily lemmings and comments here!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/C3A73XeRwll/?igsh=MTZuNG9leHlzc3Y0Nw==

I decided to get a long overdue oil change plus a windshield wiper change that is also long overdue. I strategically picked a date (sunny, at least two days after the last wet weather) and one where I know I can leave to get there sometime in the morning. Overthink much? I got there around 11:45 and the guy there said did I know that the technicians take lunch from 12-1? Nooooo? I decided to go ahead and just leave the car there. Since I was close to an unassuming Dim Sum (small dishes) restaurant, I decided to go there for lunch instead of getting something at the 7-Eleven. Of course it took us a while to sort out how I am going to get there and I decided that a walk was good, except not on the highway. The other guy printed me a map and I walked here using the back roads. I am still eating and will probably stay for another 30 minutes before heading back.

I am honored to get a shout-out in Robin’s intro today. And Robin, you smell gorgeous.

I am back in Roisin Dubh, which is also a moody rose but likely not to the extent of Fille de Berlin.

It’s cold and brilliantly sunny today! Would be a great day to ski if we had any snow. My students are tired, and an alarming number of them had to blow their noses during class this morning. Mr. Skal and I just keep washing our hands and hoping for the best.

You just made me remember how my mother was always quietly insistent in teaching us not to rub our eyes and touch our faces without kleenex and/or in public. I feel sure that one reason that I don’t get many colds is because “hands off the face” became an unconscious habit. And I too always wash my hands first thing when returning home.

In sample dabs of Eris Delta pf Venus, Goldfield & Banks Silky Woods (I was definitely influenced by TT & YT) and Imaginary Authors Whiff of Waffle Cone.

Waffle Cone is too sweet for me, though I do appreciate that there’s more going on than just straight up sugar vanilla. I didn’t care for how the woody notes were handled in Silky Woods. Let me bored. Delta of Venus is stunning, the grapefruit and guava is so pronounced. That said, too fruity for an FB for me. Night Flower remains my favorite Eris, though I do want to dig out my Green Spell sample and try that again.

BTW, loved reading all the book recommendations over the weekend. I’ll be referring back to that post soon.

The only one I did not like was Delta of Venus – too weird fruity! That said, Green Spell is excellent, as is Mxxx. and Scorpio Rising.

    Love the teapot! 🐉

Sampling Delizia Oscura today and it’s a big old scrubber. Maple syrup and violets to my nose. It’s pretty strong too so I am just going to wait it out b/c I don’t think scrubbing will work. Do you guys use Dawn or rubbing alcohol to get stuff off? I have tried both but not sure either really works well for me.

Neither. I use make-up remover first. If that doesn’t’t work, I use Tecnu which is normally for poison ivy.

It was Jasmins Marzipane today and tonight for the CP an incense, 100Bon Myrrhe et Encens, one of my favorite incenses, plus a steal. For a natural it lasts well.

We have an afternoon of sunshine before the rain returns tomorrow. I’m sampling AA Pera Granita. It’s meh, but far from being a scrubber.

Today’s teapot is really impressive and slightly intimidating! Thanks for sharing, Robin.

That’s a good review of Pera Granita – it’s just fine. But when I think about other Guerlain offerings, and other fruity scents, I always reach past poor little PG.

In Trudon Mortel for the CP today. Unfortunately, tomorrow will be an unscented day until the evening because I’m going into the office. But I get free, delicious Chinese food for lunch so can’t complain too much.

For the CP, vintage Oscar de la Renta. So many memories of my mother and probably other sweet ladies who wore this 1977 treasure. It is both high style of its time and classic, IMHO.

It’s such a good perfume, you smell superb, I have the EDT and a 30ml bottle of the extrait with the glass flower stopper, it may even be crystal, I will wear it soon.

I wore Oscar de La Renta every now and then. My favorite though was Oscar Ruffles. Years ago I purchased a used bottle and it had turned something awful.

Ooh I really like that teapot. Our “teapot” is a Pyrex 4 cup glass measuring vessel that I put in the microwave. I just reheat cups of tea as I need them.

Wearing a mix of Henry and Rose Sheep’s Clothing with overlay of MFK A La Rose. Nearing the end of a 19 day stretch of consecutive workdays, ugh!

I’ve been using the same 2 utilitarian teapots for years and when one broke recently, I thought about all the cool teapots I’d posted but in the end just bought another of the same.
