Thursday scent of the day 2/1

Posted by Robin on 1 February 2024 130 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! Happy Almost-Friday, and welcome to February. It's also National Freedom Day (aka the first day of Black History Month). Birthdays: Clark Gable, Langston Hughes, Muriel Spark, Rick James. RIP N Scott Momaday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Fendi Theorema, just in case spring is right around the corner.

Reminder: 2/2 is Groundhog Day...assemble some winter- and spring-appropriate samples in a bowl, and pick one at random, then tell us if spring will be early or late this year. (This is a repeat.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Thom Browne Rabbit Zip-Up Small Crossbody Bag is on mark down at Cettire, $1,195. It is cheaper than last year's model!

    Hello and 🐰🐰🐰!
Sotd is Amouage Overture Woman. I love this scent so much.
I bought a whole box of cherries and I am having such a great time feasting on them. They are so fresh, the stems come off with a loud pop!

Happy Thursday almost Friday! Robin, we’re scent twins, I’m wearing Theorema also. I haven’t worn it in a while so I’ll get enjoyment out of it while it’s still cool and rainy out.
Also, RIP to Chita Rivera. What an immense talent and amazing performer.

Ha! Watch out for that ear worm.

My local station played “Angel of the Morning” a couple weeks ago, and I got to thinking about what a really dumb song it was, and that was my big mistake…have had it running through my head ever since, making me CRAZY.

Much prefer America OR A Horse With No Name.

I pulled Dame Dark Horse perfume oil in my decant grab today. This is a great fall and winter scent, with cinnamon and cloves. Funnily enough, I’m dressed for spring, since it’s going to be in the 70s today.

I completely forgot the rabbitness until just now!

Today I’m in Michael Kors Michael for Men, which I bought as soon as I smelled it, without even thinking twice: it was the first patchouli I had ever even liked, let alone loved — top-loaded with dried fruit and spices in the Serge Lutens style, then armloads of tobacco, leather, and patchouli. So sophisticated!

Aww, cute bunny. I remembered my rabbits when I was awake for a bit between midnight and 1 am.
I’m in Glossier You, which is one of those scents I don’t think of as seasonal, so probably no points for the cp.
Today is the first day of my Whole30 challenge. I’m 3 hours in and already missing my vanilla latte lol. I’ve discovered nutpods though, which are not half bad. I mean, they are no vanilla latte don’t get me wrong, but better than nothing.☕️

I think you will like Whole30. I did it once and I thought it was an excellent “new lens” to see food through. I, as I expected, did not find any food intolerance issues, but I’ve never craved candy and sugar as much as I used to before I did the program.

SOTD is Valkyrie. I’m rediscovering my Sylvaine Delacourte sample sets, and I’m liking this scent much much more than when I first tried it several years ago, the vanilla has also darkened a lot.

It’s a rainy morning here, and I’m off to the optometrist to get my eyes dilated.

I have gotten the orange blossom and musk sample sets from Sylvaine Delacourt, and particularly liked Osiris.

The sample sets are quite reasonable, too.

Yes, I wish many more perfume houses would sell sample sets like these! I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the orange blossom set was by far my favorite, since I don’t think of that note as something I’m drawn to. Osiris is very beautiful, my favorite is probably Ozkan.

I like Vahina by her as well. This is vanilla and orange blossom. I have said this before on here, but every time I go to see my grandkids in North Carolina, I usually buy a bottle. A woman and her daughter have a boutique and they sell this perfume. The mother used to work with Slyvaine in Paris so is very good friends with her. It is fun to hear her stories.

The boutique owner worked for Chanel, but I think it was when Sylvaine worked for Guerlain. Anway, they both lived in Paris and now Sylvaine sometimes comes to visit her in NC.

I did 4 sets of rabbits and so I can give away 3 sets!

I have a deck outside and it only has a resin Adirondack chair in an impossible turquoise. Anyway, it almost seems that whenever I look outside (ok, I’m exaggerating), I see a cat just casually walking through. There’s no pattern to the direction they’re coming from, nor do they have the same coat colors so I know it’s several cats. Maybe I am destined to enjoy them vicariously?

Oh, and since it’s the beginning of the month, I can now report that I have spent $0 on perfumes in January! Maybe I should reward myself …

That’s an essspensive wabbit up top! I forgot my rabbits as usual.

Finally seeing a bit of sun! The first time since I crossed the Nevada/Oregon border a couple of days ago. 🌞

Mostly on track with my thunking, although I did forget last night. Wearing Regina Harris Amber Vanilla. I have no idea who she is or how she’s connected to this scent. Perfumer I would imagine. It was a vanilla sample I bought years looking for a Vanilla Lace dupe. Just now upended the contents which oozed out like honey on a cold morning. I don’t smell anything at all unless I stick my nose under my shirt and take in a big huff, and then it’s barely discernible.

It’s wonderful Langston Hughes and Rick James share a birthday. I love that! 🥰

    My favorite poem by Hughes:

    My favorite Rick James song:

I forgot the rabbits this morning. This morning was spent taking care of bills and bought a travel spray of the original Lolita Lempicka and a mini of Sand and Sable. The total was $20 and in perfume land, that’s free. Lolita Lempicka has always been on the affordable side. I was thinking of Theorema today but wanted Lyric today. So I am Lyric.

I was at the airport recently and smelled Bombay Bling on someone at baggage claim. There were three women standing close together, but not together, and I didn’t feel like I could barge over and ask about perfume. Still, I hardly ever smell someone wearing perfume and this is the first time I’ve been able to identify what it was. SOTD here for a day of laundry is Armani Prive Pivoine Suzhou. It’s a very spring-like scent.

I still am not sure about Akro Bake so I am glad I bought the 30 ml bottle. It may come up in the swapmeet if I don’t start liking it a little better soon. I keep wavering on my feelings about it.

Did you see that cocoa pink has a vanilla bean available in just about every imaginable base? Or was it you that mentioned them a while back? Cute bunny bag, Robin! I thought for sure it would have been by Loewe. I remember what a laugh riot their elephant caused. 😁
So for this rabbit game, you’re supposed to say it first thing, right? I’ll have to try harder; it was the second thing I said today.

I reached into my sample dish this morning and pulled out PMC Vanille de Tahiti. So, perfect for summer, but also perfect for a cozy, comfort scent in winter. I had only a partial sample left, but it struck me as lovely! Wish I had more now. It’s pretty simple; a creamy vanilla with notes of champaca and ylang ylang, but more like a gauzy overlay than an in-your-face tropical. I’ve never thought of myself as a vanilla person, but I may have to reconsider that!

I’m in 4160 Tuesdays The Sexiest Scent on the Planet Ever. It feels more like a spring scent since it wears very light on me.

I remembered my rabbits today, and I have an extra set if anyone needs them. 🐇🐇🐇

13C and sunny today. In K de Krizia today with rose oil on one wrist and tonight in Le Couvent Mimosa, a pretty one, I was waiting for January to end to start wearing mimosa.

Mimosa perfumes don’t seem to be very popular anymore, I would say yes, do get one.

SOTD was Angelique Noire, which has now faded. I’m now resting with a cat on my lap (in-cat-pacitated to get up) while burning a Loukhoum Killian candle that smells incredible. Sp much that I am regretting not buying Keiko Mecheri’s Loukhoum when it was sold at Liberty London. I wonder if has been reformulated, as it was out of stock for a while and now there’s a poudree version I don’t remember from before.

Ha! I am going to use “in-cat-pacitated” for sure. That happens most nights around here. You smell wonderful. I am going to use up my samples of AN, and will eye the FB after they are gone.

Heh. I used to joke about having an “in-pet-iment” whenever one of the cats was enjoying serious time on my lap.

      Thumbs up to “in-cat-pacitated”!

    I remembered the rabbits! Astonishing.

In Roísín Dubh, which must be for winter (or autumn); it is NOT spring-like to my nose. Long day at work — I taught at 8:30 a.m. and have an event that goes until 9 p.m., with meetings most of the way through (but a few hours this evening to regroup and have dinner before the event).

No points today. I’m going for the thunk with my Aura body cream. It is just fragrant enough that pairing it with anything other than an Aura is iffy. But today I found the shared rhubarb note in Patou Adieu Sagesse was just right. Mugler body cream jars are very nice – I donated one empty to the thrift store. I may see if I can use this one in some way, although I have plenty of catch-alls and too much that they are catching!

Yay – I rabbited this morning! Team Spring today: Luten Un Lys. I have a decant from my MakeUp Alley days long ago, and it still smells wonderful to me.

We are heading out for a snowshoe weekend with kids and grandson (he will be in baby hiking backpack) tomorrow. Happily packing and organizing food. In case I don’t post, hope everyone has a great weekend.

Entirely uncharacteristically, I actually remembered rabbits this morning.

Once again in venerable Diorissimo parfum.

As for tomorrow’s CP, I have roped the long-suffering Sr. Spiderplant (to whom every scented wrist smells “powdery,” or so he says) into making the random selection from the Groundhog Day samples. So if it’s winter, you’ll know who to blame.

This morning I tried Eris Delta of Venus from a big order of samples from Indigo. It smells really nice but unfortunately really irritates my nose. Anyone want my sample? It’s a nice spray sample. I can also let you know of other samples or small decants I’m ready to part with.

    Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! 🐇

I remembered this morning, and I have an extra set of rabbits in case someone forgot.

65 degrees and sunny today, but “Wintry Mix” is lurking in the weekend forecast. So I am sending the sun off somewhere else for a little while.

SOTD = continuing on with the “January Special” for this first day of February. Boyfriend Body Creme on my shins.

I am down to about 1/3 of it now. Maybe it gets thunked this month?

Posting late. Did the grab bag today, ended up with Changing Constance. I want to fall in love with one of these Penhaligon’s portrait series, but every one I’ve tried so far has just left me thinking, “That’s nice.” Nice just isn’t going to cut it at those prices. Sigh. I luuuurv those bottles, but the juice has to match.

Oh, and I’ve realized I’m an absolute sucker for a cardamom top note. I go into immediate “ooooh” mode and now I have to pause, and think: Is there really anything else to love here, other than the cardamom?

Changing Constance probably heads more winter, given the cardamom, caramel and vanilla. It IS lovely.
