The daily lemming

Posted by Robin on 24 January 2024 21 Comments

From Guerlain, Le Flacon Tortue in a red edition by Baccarat, celebrating the 110th anniversary of Guerlain’s flagship boutique on Avenue des Champs-Élysées, and holding a Parfum version of the Champs-Élysées fragrance. "Facetted like its bottle, the legendary Champs-Elysées perfume extract invite us on a delicate stroll along the most beautiful avenue in the world to celebrate this anniversary. In its most precious version, the fragrance as radiant as crystal opens with fruity, colourful notes of blackcurrant berries blending with the essence of rose softened by the mimosa blossom at its heart. The tenderness of almond wood notes majestically envelop the fragrance." 32 bottles were made, and the 1 liter bottle is reportedly €25,000.

One liter!?! It would take two servants to actually open that massive bottle. 😸

I remember seeing a Guerlain video showing the specialists who do nothing but comb out the fancy ruffs on cords with a special tool, a sort of tiny curry comb.

Well if you had €25,000 for a bottle of perfume presumably you’d have the servants too?

Good heavens, why would you ever need 1L of any scent? What are you expected to do, spray it on every guest entering your house? Spray your house with it?

I don’t think you’d spend the €25,000 because you needed perfume.

It’s red, so I think hajusuuri might be interested! Time for a massive split!

I don’t think any of us want to fight hajusuuri for that bottle! Just split the juice, as per usual. 😊

Someone on the Guerlainophiles FB page received this as a gift from their family in Hong Kong. It is actually the red tortoise bottle plus a bee bottle and a 30ml atomizer which adds up to the 1 liter. When asked the poster said they did not plan to open it but just keep it as a collector’s piece.

That is very interesting!! Thanks for letting us know, and *YAY* for the person who got such a generous gift. As a dedicated Champs Elysees fan girl, I wonder if the berries have replaced the melon? I am all about the almond and melon notes in the OG.

I’ve only smelled the edt and edp, but I did not smell melon in either (I hate melon).

I thought I disliked melon until I started wearing CE! 🙂 What I smell as the melon is the very sweet and flowery essence of a ripe melon, not a more cucumber/astringent, green, melon scent.

That is usually how they package the luxury collector bottles…thanks for clarifying!

I get a chuckle out of these huge bottles. Years ago, when I was at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, close to my hometown, I went to a gift shop there and saw a HUGE bottle of Chanel No 5. This was not 1 liter; it was ginormous and hung from ropes in the shop. It was probably 3 feet by 3 feet. I asked about it just being a display and they said it was for some VIP from Saudi Arabia. Are you kidding me? Where would you store such a thing??? Plus, can you imagine shipping that home?

It will probably be shipped in its own private jet …

I saw a video house tour of a Saudi collector of watches and sports cars. The enormous house had an underground garage for something like 20 priceless antique and modern sports cars. He probably has walk-in closets the size of my apartment. 😸

Probably the same person that bought the Chanel No 5 that I saw 🤣

It is a nice bottle. According to a Google search:

For the Chinese, the tortoise is sacred and symbolizes longevity, power, and tenacity.
