Thursday scent of the day 1/11

Posted by Robin on 11 January 2024 204 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! Birthdays: Alice Paul, Clarence Clemons and Naomi Judd. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm commando and about to go to the gym for the first time since early 2020. I'll weigh in with a fragrance choice later today.

Reminder: 1/12 is National Marzipan Day. Wear a fragrance with honey, almond or both.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
    Sotd is Lipstick Rose.
I applaud you Robin, and anyone else that goes to the gym. I can’t seem to bring myself to workout. Taking long walks is the only exercise I can muster the energy for.
I am pairing my perfume with a mug of rooibos tea with rose petals.

The gym is SO boring, even with an earful of podcasts to distract me, but I force myself to go 3-4 times a week (and weights 2-3x a week) — I have back and sciatic issues that only constant vigilance will protect me from. I also have to do a collection of stretches every single night and I can’t skip a night or I will regret it the next day, because getting older kind of sucks. But walking is also good exercise! It totally counts.

Your long walks are probably better for you long term. Doing something you enjoy and being outside consistently is a lot better than forcing oneself to make it to the gym.

Totally agree with you, LTSG. I happen to like lifting weights-just don’t enjoy the way sometimes other members hog all the best gear, while on their phones. Walking is about the best exercise there is. Robin if you’re comfortable sharing please let us know how your time at the gym was.

Just came from a charity the company helps-we unload the truck. Three big pallets of stuff, and today unseasonable warm. Wearing Fille en Aiguilles, which I love. It’s sweet but not saccharine sweet. I have half a bottle, and one backup bottle in the old 50 ml size with black label.

I would not call today a workout…I am easing myself back. Today I did a 1 hour QiGong class and then a nice 15 minute sauna. I feel great! Will do a yoga class soon hopefully and then maybe enter the actual equipment / weights room.

Honestly I rejoined mostly for yoga & sauna.

How wonderful that you have access to Qi Gong! Mr. Skal has done it (years ago) and we would both love to have a class to attend. I believe the closest

It is a lot like yoga in that I just feel better, happier, and relaxed after a class. I did use lots of great QiGong videos over the past few years but you can’t beat an in-person class.

          It is my favorite.

I have tried very hard to figure out if I am more or less likely to catch a virus inside a dry sauna, and I just can’t find an answer so have decided to enjoy the sauna and not worry about it.

I seem to be doing a week of “scents that are supposed to have honey, but you can barely smell it or cannot smell it at all”.
Today it is SL Fleur de Citronnier – a lovely citrus white floral, but I can’t say I notice even a drop of honey in it.

I’m in Glossier You, one of my favorites. Saving my almond perfume for tomorrow.
Holy cow you guys, the sun is out!🤩🌞 I don’t think we’ve seen it yet this year. We’ve gotten about 10 inches of snow here in the past 48 hours and it’s the kind that hangs in the trees, turning my morning commute into an ansel adams photo. It’s gorgeous.
Today is the day of my birth, and I took the afternoon off and plan to take myself to lunch, shopping, then barre class. I’ve gotten several texts this morning (and even a bday email from guerlain), and one of them was from my dad. His text made me a little teary, but then also made me lol cuz he tacked an extra year onto my age.🤣 He’s got one kid to keep track of: me!😂

Wearing Zoologist Bee for the CP.

Thanks for all your good luck wishes regarding my work meeting yesterday. As expected, things went pretty badly. I already escalated the issues to a higher level, and most likely, that will backfire, but it was the right approach considering the irresponsibility and negligence of the team leader.

At least, we are finally having a sunny day, and as usual, I will take a long walk at lunchtime to take advantage of it. In the mean time having just coffee with a dash of turmeric.
    Happy almost Friday! ☕️

I am still under the weather, had a fever last night before bed. But woke up this morning with none, so it must of broke in the middle of the night.
I made, or try to make, my FIL chai tea with extra ginger. He grated some and left it for me in the freezer. I have been sipping this all morning and it has been helping. This and some soup later should have me back in shape in no time.

I watched the movie Saltburn to see what all this talk is about. Very interesting film.

Now back to reading and sleeping..

And for those wildlife enthusiasts, there has been another jaguar spotted in southern AZ!! Caught on trail cam last month, along with an ocelot which is another big win species! There’s a short video of them both below, and the guy whose trail cam caught the super stars! This apparently is NOT El Jefé who inhabited the Santa Rita’s for several years before returning to Mexico. This one has been named Cochise. So COOL!!

I’m in Dior Homme this morning, after trying (way too much of) it on Mr. G at bedtime last night. His skin amps fruity and sharp notes, and since I sprayed a bit too much he didn’t enjoy the experiment, sadly. My bottle is the original version, and now I’m rather stunned that anyone needed an “intense” version of it at all — the original is a powerhouse.

So, Tuesday, a nice crew of guys came and installed a new shiny well sealed 150 inch tall by 66 inch wide window where the old beautiful handmade but on the verge of falling into a thousand shards of glass in my dining room due to dry rot window used to be. We had to move 20 years of my husband’s precious collections of stuff (not a hoard of empty electronics boxes and trash, no…) so the crew could set up their scaffolding inside our house to take out the old window and put in the new one. My allergies have been triggered. Today, I have 3 perfumes that smell good to me. Xerjoff Irisss. Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar. Vintage Dior Dune. Sniffing Everything else is like sending little drone knives directly to my sinuses. Ugh. I am sure once I transfer some things to long term storage in the shop or the dump, and wash the walls, furniture and floors with my patented special allergy cleanser (warm water, a little vinegar, a little more isopropyl alcohol, a few drops of tea tree oil to discourage mold, a few drops of frankenscense or or lemon, depending on my mood..) I will breathe better. The window is fantastic. Should have done this years ago! But what a chore! People near us have 7 inches of snow. We barely got an inch. I am going to bake shortbread cookies, made with almond flour – so delish!- and some cornbread made with coarse cornmeal and some sorghum flour instead of wheat flour, and maximum butter and bacon grease, baked in the cast iron pan the bacon was cooked in, to eat with chili. Anything to postpone started on the walls and floors…. LOL.

I don’t envy you the cleaning chore ahead, but I have to ask whether they were able to save the beautiful handmade window for some other use?

They were able to save the top half of the window in one piece. The bottom half didn’t survive, some of the mostly badly rotted pieces turned to dust when they tried. Planning in making one of these boho shabby chic whatnot greenhouses in the spring…

Thank you for this remodeling story, with the observation about allergy triggers. Drone sinus knives twin today, but more from the barometer in my case. Our house had many features like your window; I’ve been telling myself it’s time to say goodbye to the fun yet well-worn 1962 kitchen. I think I will be glad, too.

Ah, well worn fun 60’s kitchen! You can make the new one a homage to the old one! I have cheap ass particle board 80’s kitchen- I am sure the owner planned on making custom cabinets, but his wife put her foot down and said , Yes but we have to live here in the mean time! I am veering toward minimalist maple wood cabinets, white white walls and soapstone counters, assuming I pick up a winning lottery ticket sometime soon. LOL! Remodeling is so much fun.

Today I am in Theorema and not looking forward to next week’s frigid temperatures. Grandma’s surgery went well and now it’s phase two of moving her to a better skilled nursing. We just don’t know when she will be released from the hospital. But right now she is safe. My mother is about to go to the hospital and talk to the nurses and ask for someone to sit with her at meal times to get her to eat.

That happened to me about six years ago. I did get cut after being with the organization for 20+ years. So did several of my coworkers. The people that remained had survivors’ guilt and most of them have left or retired now. It was very difficult, but most of us did get good jobs after it happened. Now, many of us have retired. Corporate America for you!

I keep meaning to wear Chergui for the cp and because I love it, and I keep not remembering to wear it. Today I’m in a Pierre Guillaume Shermine sample which I thought I would love, but rather find to be way too musky. In fact, it seems like the forerunner to Le Musc et Le Peau which is airier, but similarly musky and at the same time, too sharp. (I loved it from a sample vial, but did not love it when I sprayed and really got a noseful.) I do have a cp plan for tomorrow!

Anyhoo, onward. I am continuing my January yoga challenge which yes, indeed, has been a challenge for me. And I see some rare sunshine today so will get out for a walk in between housework and playing around with watercolors.

No points for me today, but I enjoyed a light spray or two of Modern Muse for a shopping expedition to…drumroll please…The Big Mall 75 miles away from me. The catch is, the trip was for my dear Mr. Mossy. Yup, I tried one spray of Hypnotic Poison in Sephora, but the trip was all about getting him a spiffy suit and tie for a family wedding next week. I won’t break my arm patting myself on the back, though. My no buy does not end until after the wedding, so I was on a leash anyway! 😀 It was a successful day, and we got some good deals yet felt like we had a choice. We had a helpful salesperson who knew the stock; what a delight. Now I just hope I can do a good job of hemming the pants – it’s been a while!

The good news is that the results were normal. The bad news is they don’t know what the problem is. I am waiting to hear back as to what the next step is.
When I got home I put on SL Cedre. This is one of my favorite tuberose perfumes and I thought for sure it had honey in it. Fragrantica says no. When reading some of the reviews, somebody mentioned Dior Poison. I agree that there is some similarity. Imagine how Poison would smell if it had come in gold juice and dark amber bottle. Plus honey! I know I smell honey. Lol.

Happy to hear it wasn’t horrible, and that it was negative for any worrying process. Hope they can pin down the issue asap! Stay warm, there’s some wicked cold headed across the country! 🥶

It’s going to get super cold for sure. I’m praying to keep power. I do have about a dozen throws though. I buy them on super clearance after each themed holiday. Lol.

Looks like your elimination tests are going your way! Speaking of throws from your response to Deva, I just got one of Kiki’s Delivery Service late last week. It was not on clearance but it was a pretty good price!

Quick post tonight. Hopefully I will have “real” Internet access tomorrow.

Current temp here is 9 degrees F. I didn’t go outside at all today. The forecast for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday keeps getting uglier and uglier, with overnight low temps in the subzero range.

Teflon kitty has been seeking the warmest spots in the apartment. Most popular have been her kitty cat heating pad and snuggled up against me. I did see her hanging out by the space heater earlier tonight.

SOTD = back in Boyrfriend Body Creme.

I would not go outside either if I could help it!

How are you liking your apartment? And your new neighborhood?

My apartment is rather nice. But the weird thing about the Front Range is that 1-bedroom apartments are scarce as hen’s teeth. So I am renting a 2-bedroom. I’m using the second one as storage. No human roommates.

The area is recent construction: 2018-ish. There’s a small park and a clubhouse with an exercise room and movie theatre that you can rent, plus a swimming pool that’s open in the warmer months. It’s a quiet community with plenty of lighting.

Downside is that almost nothing is within walking distance, except for a few fast food restaurants.

Slipped in a typo with my SOTD.

Well, a pool and exercise room are nice bonuses…and you can always set up the 2nd bedroom as an office? Or guest room? It’s hard to find 1 bedrooms here too.

Stupid Internet connection dropped off and ate my previous attempt at a reply.

Tef is a smart kitty for sure!

I have the OG Kate Walsh Boyfriend in a few formats from when it was sold at Sephora several years ago. Hopefully the dry oil hasn’t gone off. The body creme has changed color and texture, but still smells good.
