Wednesday scent of the day 1/3

Posted by Robin on 3 January 2024 143 Comments

It's Wednesday and the 10th day of Christmas (lords a-leaping). Also, the all-important National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day. Birthdays: Lucretia Mott and John Ronald Reuel Tolkien. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Chanel Cristalle, which would go perfectly if I were wearing that jacket in early spring. When the Cristalle fades, as it must, I might just put on some Bois des Iles.

Reminder: on 1/5, wear a fragrance to match Peach Fuzz, Pantone's color of the year for 2024. "PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a velvety gentle peach whose all-embracing spirit enriches heart, mind, and body. Subtly sensual, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration. A warm and cozy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others or for enjoying a moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary this creates, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz presents a fresh approach to a new softness. An appealing peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz inspires belonging, recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from."

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Chanel tweed jacket from 1996 ("One of the many reasons Coco Chanel made a name for herself in the fashion industry was due to her forward-thinking and creativity. In 1925, the maison founder transported the wool-woven fabric of the sports world into haute couture. That heritage is seen on this jacket, which is decorated with CC-logo embossed buttons for a recognisable touch") is $2,879 at Farfetch.

Nothing peach-toned about the warm spicy-woody Diptyque 34 Boulevard St-Germain, which I once read was meant to smell like an entire Diptyque shop, all their scents all at once, the sort of mad complexity I love.

Gabrielle Essence, which I consider the playful younger sister of Allure. Still has a bit of peach note but big white flowers are more prominent yet still light. A nice, everyday scent. That I can smell. I’m drawn to peach notes.

I really like Gabrielle Essence. I haven’t worn it for quite a while, but it is nice with a little Gabrielle body cream or lotion to the legs as well.

White Cube (Narciso). Sort of CP-compliant – “warm and cozy”. Is this the perfume you, Robin, called “flfufy gardenia”? If so, fitting.

      Yay for peaceful!

I had to go look it up…

My first thought was that if there were such a thing as gardenia marshmallow fluff, this is what it would smell (taste?) like, but that makes it sound far sweeter and foodier than it is, so let’s say a very thin schmear of the gardenia marshmallow fluff on a wood plank.

I’m wearing Divine Vanilla from my travel spray today. Things are all topsy-turvy in the camper due to ongoing electrical upgrade and it’s about all I easily reach at the moment. I thought I had grabbed the Bergamot but didn’t have my contacts in at that point yet. Hoping to be done here and on my way later today.

While wandering in the desert yesterday, I stumbled across a pet cemetery. I’m pretty sure there was a person there too, since I don’t know of any dog living from 1950 to 2012…😳 Anyway, mostly neat and tidy and you could tell the placards were regularly cleaned and straightened. Not what I ever expected to find while wandering in No Man’s Land.

In case you have IG and want to see it. Most of the graves were very well maintained. There was even a seating area with some chairs and a couch which were most likely dumped and then repurposed by the people whose pets are buried there.

I’m in Infusion de Cassis from Beauty Pie. This opens with notes of blackberry that are so tart it almost made me feel that reaction you get when you suck on a tart piece of candy. It settled quickly and is mainly a fig fragrance. The blackberry is still there but quieter.
I had the dreaded middle of the night insomnia. Ugh. Tossed and turned for 3 hours. Wish my brain would hash out all of my worries during the daylight hours instead of waking me up in the middle of the night to ruminate.

I’m doing the CP by wearing Parfums de Marly Valaya. It has notes of white peach, mandarin, florals, and musk. I think of the musk as making it “fuzzy.” The reviews of this on Fragrantica are amazingly diverse, with people seeming to love it or hate it. One hater calls it “chemical warfare in a bottle.” Ha ha! People complain about the ambroxan in it. I’m apparently anosmic to that or just don’t mind it. All I have at this point is a sample of it. Though I enjoy it, it’s probably not going onto my FB list any time soon–I have higher priorities.

Yesterday was another tough day as I helped take my best friend, who recently had a minor car accident so no car right now, to the vet’s office with her beloved cat, who has been pretty ill and they made the decision to put her to sleep. I went in the room with them and did a good share of the crying (even had to ask the vet for a Kleenex box). She just lost another of her cats recently and I had lost my Sylvie on New Year’s Eve night and so we were revisiting their better days. All of these cats were elderly but it’s still never easy.

That jacket is gorgeous — and it’s a color that is deeply unflattering ON ME. I used to dream of finding a vintage Chanel tweed jacket at a thrift store, but I think that is unlikely to happen now in the days of luxury resale. I have a “Chanel-esque” tweed jacket in cream and grey that exudes a vibe of restrained elegance that works for me on Big Important Days.

Woke up today with zero energy; will probably do a COVID test, just in case. Commando. Thought I was heading to the gym but feeling too punky right now (and wouldn’t go without testing first).

I love the color, too. I don’t think I’ve ever worn anything predominantly peach, so not sure if it would be a good color or not for me personally. But, the color itself I find very soothing and relaxing. I can see why it was pretty common in homes back in the 80-90’s era. I remember hospital walls being a similar color, too.

This is my favorite Pantone color of the year in awhile, I couldn’t wear it either (too pale and I’m not exactly a pastels gal) but it’s a fuzzy lovely thing.

I hope the test is negative although there may be comfort in knowing what you do have.

The “yellow” of the jacket reminds me of a comment a co-worker in a different building said that the walls in his office are a pee-yellow and unmotivating.

I had a peach sweater that I loved in the ’80s — with a triangular turtleneck that buttoned at the side so when unbuttoned there was an angled collar at the front. I could never wear that colour today, though.

I’ve travelled a couple of hours south to Invercargill, at the bottom of the island where the skies always seem to be different from anywhere else, very bright but pale blue, almost like a fine porcelain glaze. I think it’s because it’s on the southern ocean and a great place for Aurora australis . Sunset is 9.45pm. Also a great op shopping town ( thrift shops) so I hope to find some treasures today before heading to the beaches. The coast is quite wild , long stretches of black sand or pebbles. A good place for picking up jasper stones but also one of the best locations for finding ambergris ( though I never have). Wearing Dusita Pavillion D’or

Re: Cristalle. I was just at the Chanel boutique in DC with friends on Sunday, and one of my friends nearly bought Cristalle, which is supposed to be discontinued any time now (I’ve been hearing this for months). They also had Eau Verte on the shelf, which I actually favor. In any case, you smell great.

I’m wearing 4160 Tuesdays Clouds today, it is pretty much my holy grail signature scent and very comforting. I am sitting with my dog who is not feeling well, I think it may be due to either a new medication or a new floor cleaning product. I will be rewashing the floors today just in case. My two previous dogs got very sick from Fabuloso cleaner, so I switched to a natural non-toxic product, but my stepson bought a new wet mop yesterday that came prefilled with a cleaning product unbeknownst to me, so that could be the issue. Threw the flea medication away, in case it’s that as well. I feel so bad for her, and bad that I was the cause of her suffering.

What Hajusuuri said. That’s the only time I wish dogs could talk, when they get sick. Your pup doesn’t know what it is, either, and I’m sure that, in any case, they will forgive you. ❤️

I’m happy to report that she is starting to perk up after I dosed her with homeopathic Nux Vomica, which helps the body detoxify. Hoping by tomorrow she will be 100%.

I have a tiny bottle of DSH Mata Hari that seems to be evaporating so I am wearing it today. It’s one of those “kitchen sink notes” perfumes, and I swear I smell peach though that isn’t one of the hundred notes listed for it. Anyway, it’s a good perfume. Today I’m taking Bertie Wooster to the vet for his monthly monoclonal antibody injection. It has made such a difference to his quality of life.

I had to go research that, looks like it’s a fairly new treatment for animals. Good to know it’s so effective! I’m filing it away in case Tess needs it in future.

I’m in Diorella today, so CP compliant, at least according to the notes on Fragrantica (I don’t particularly pull peach out when I smell it but apparently it’s there?).

This week of everyone else in the house being on winter break while I have to work is a pain. Is it Friday yet?

Today I unearthed my very vintage bottle of Coty L’Origan, the one with the orange tassel on the box. It is heavenly. Spicy, ambery, and a generous dose of civet. Worlds away from the version it had dwindled down to in the 70’s. It supposedly has peach, too, which turns out to be rather rare in my collection. Points!

Under the weather today after almost four years without a cold. Sunny and mild weather. I chose l’Occitane Ambre Santal which is very comforting,. I never thought I would have it one day and tonight vintage Volupté which is insanely fruity, I think it’s melon and osmanthus but it comes across as peach, very much of it’s Time but I still enjoy it.

It is a cult perfume I think because it contains sandalum album from India which nowadays is heavily restricted. It’s lovely, more santal than amber, not too sweet.

I did not know that, thank you! Wow. Yes, it’s less sweet than another, newer version that I have. Your description is right on the mark. I’m still awful at teasing apart notes. 🫤

Collecting CP points today with Coco.

Last night did some testing of Laboratorio Olfattivo Alambara and a Chris Rusak scent whose name is too long remember. Alambara had me huffing my arm. Everything I’ve smelled of Chris Rusak so far is in the “that was an interesting olfactory experience, but I don’t need to possess it” bucket.

Wishing healing and solace to everyone who needs it right now!

I’m doing the same interpretation as I did yesterday focusing on the color description as bringing a feeling of kindness and sharing. I thunked a sample of Ayala Moriel Schizm that I received in a giveaway of about 20+ Ayala Moriel samples from an acquaintance from MUA days. This was probably 8 or 9 years ago now, and I unearthed the bag with all these samples earlier this year and have steadily been wearing them and finishing some. I think it’s a great under the radar indie natural perfumery brand. Schizm is very well blended and has a sweet, fruity aspect over green mossy notes.

SotD Afnan Misraal of Love. It opens with a mighty mighty burnt sugar-marine accord and sends up a few puffs of what might be oud. After a while, it calms down to a jasmine or orange blossom and marine accord, and trails off with more cedar than oud for a clean woody finish. I will say it never becomes linear, so there’s that. What with its elaborate packaging I think it will shine as a Gift Perfume for someone who is not interested in perfumes but likes a fancy dressing table. I am impressed by the hat trick of a perfume just interesting enough not to be outdone by its presentation. No CP points and I think I’d rather have worn something from my peach family.

SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Clouds Illusion EDP

Iris and orange blossom, what’s not to love? ❤️

It is the 2nd day of the 4160 Tuesdays Joy Box project! I originally thought I had at least a 15 mL of this one but upon checking my stash, I have Clouds Parfum instead (it is super good, in case you’re wondering).
