Tuesday scent of the day 1/2

Posted by Robin on 2 January 2024 138 Comments

It's Tuesday (and Donatella will be dropping by shortly). It’s also World Introvert Day and National Science Fiction Day, plus the 9th day of Christmas (ladies dancing). What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in good old Diptyque Tam Dao, and taking community project points for "conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from". Tea at the moment is a blend of Numi Chinese Breakfast and Numi Golden Chai.

Reminder: on 1/5, wear a fragrance to match Peach Fuzz, Pantone's color of the year for 2024. "PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a velvety gentle peach whose all-embracing spirit enriches heart, mind, and body. Subtly sensual, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a heartfelt peach hue bringing a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration. A warm and cozy shade highlighting our desire for togetherness with others or for enjoying a moment of stillness and the feeling of sanctuary this creates, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz presents a fresh approach to a new softness. An appealing peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz inspires belonging, recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from."

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Primavera Teapot in Coral on Peach enamelware is €41.50 at Bornn in Instanbul.

    Les Nereides Opoponax.

Another massive attack – 4 hours. My town was not hit, we are fine.

Demeter Leather, reapplied frequently. Even for a Demeter it has no lasting power: it’s as evanescent as a citrus cologne, but for a few minutes it’s a very convincing replica of a black leather jacket.

It’s very chilly this morning but I’m up extra early so there’s that. Wearing PdE Ambré Russe decant from years ago. Amazing how this one has not evaporated one bit, changed color or gotten hazy at all. It’s been everywhere with me, from Florida to Alaska back to Florida and all over the west coast. Talk about a good traveler! Same gorgeous perfume as when I first tried it.

Finishing my second cup of coffee then will confront my 50+ work emails. Another 10 dropped yesterday. I have no clue WHY people would be doing this crap on holidays. I’m already annoyed and haven’t even stepped foot into the hospital yet. 😅

So many emails … to me it smacks of automation. Like the hospital on-boarding process automatically sends a few emails to a group, and then some in that group have automated responses set to “reply to all”. 😖 Reply to all should be banned — forcing people to actually type in all the intended recipients might make them really think about who really needs to be included. Rant over. 🙃

These are all testing modules and some policy and procedure acknowledgments. Possibly automated by my role, but still…these should not have been sent to my personal email address. They should have gone to a work email. Wah wah wah…

I like many of the PdE perfumes, almost all that I’ve sampled in fact. I think they consistently create quality perfumes that have broad appeal, but are different enough to be interesting. And let’s face it- MAC is pretty easy on the eyes! Now that they’ve brought back the 50ml bottles, I may be tempted to purchase a couple this year, I just don’t know how to go about choosing WHICH ones… Really wish they would offer a 10-15ml size because I would snap up quite a few. The only full bottle I have is Corsica Fusiosa.

I think I will wear HdP 1804 today — I think of it as pineapple and as much brighter than “peach fuzz,” but peach (or peach blossom) is listed as a note in Fragrantica. I love the scent of peach but apparently have few perfumes that feature it. Not sure I even have the once-ubiquitous-in-my-collection carded samples of Trésor.

But — in my browsing I came across “Winnie the Pooh Piglet” perfume! Have any of you tried it? I’ll paste the Fragrantica link below.

Transitioning back to work mode today. I’ll ease myself back by allowing at least a couple of hours to read a novel that will be part of my new spring course (I read most of it 18 months ago when I first started developing the course, but am starting now from the beginning).

SOTM is Cuir Cannage, from a dwindling decant. So very gorgeous. I broke down and ordered a FB of Under My Skin after wearing it exclusively for many, many days in a row and not even remotely getting tired of it (and turning Mr. G into Gomez Addams sniffing my arm and murmuring “Tish”), but this morning I thought I ought to remind myself of some other leathers on the shelf.

No CP today, spending some time on my personal quest for My Favorite Patchouli in Les Nereides Patchouli Antique from a batch of Luckyscent samples that I ordered a few months ago. As much as I love smelling strong patchouli, I am quickly finding out that it takes a barbershop direction on my skin, which is out of my comfort zone. I am giving it a full testing though. I wonder if I already know what I need to know about patchouli-heavies via Angel?

Awarding myself partial CP points for vintage Shiseido Murasaki, which is decidedly purple in its outlook, but does have a peach note.
Also part of Our Lady’s Damage Report, since I picked up a vintage set with three Shiseido travel/purse sprays including this one in the fourth quarter of 2023.

Bora Bora is nice but I think Bianco Latte is better. I tried BL for the first time a few days ago and at first I thought hmm, nice niche vanilla but kind of standard fare…but then I loved it more and more as it wore and the dry down is lovely. The dry down is usually the best part for most fragrances b/c vanilla of course. 😉 So now I am thinking I may need a bottle.

World Introvert Day is one I can get behind. Also, I like that teapot. I tried a new line of teas at a cafe the other day — probably not new to anyone here (Harney & Sons) — and really liked their Hot Cinnamon Sunset, which was perfect for a cool winter day. I may go back and buy a tin of it.

Wearing Marions-Nous by Oriza L. Legrand. A lovely aldehydic floral that I got in Paris in 2022.
I’m so glad December is over, though to be honest, it wasn’t that bad this year. Thinking I was going to hate it, was actually the worst part.

I spent a couple of days in the Netherlands between Christmas and the New Year and most of our main rivers have risen outside of their usual confines. It makes for an impressive landscape, and so far the flooding seems under control. I wouldn’t mind some dry weather and sunshine though, it seems like months ago, that it wasn’t grey every single day.

World Introvert Day! That’s for me! Does that mean I don’t have to leave the house today? 😅

I’m wearing Indigo Smoke, because I am in love with it. However, following Robin’s lead, I think I will tie it in to the CP with this part of the description- “a fresh approach to a new softness.” This is the softest incense fragrance I’ve ever smelled, and I probably love it because of that. Plus the tea, which is a note I’ve been drawn to recently.

Speaking of tea, mine is MF Marco Polo, thanks to the original NSTer.

I just got a new ipad and it has the center stage feature on zoom where the camera follows you when you move. Spent several minutes trying to figure out how to turn it off as I do *not* want the camera following me, I want to be able to move off screen! Turns out it’s a button on the left side of the zoom screen where you see the gallery view button.

I noticed those thread posts on my daughter’s IG. I tried to get rid of them but couldn’t.

I am seeing the Threads posts in my general feed, but I rarely ever look at that feed because I also don’t like the ads. I haven’t been seeing Threads posts in my “Following” feed, fortunately — so maybe that’s the workaround? (click “Instagram” at the top left and choose “Following”)

If they start showing Threads or ads in my Following feed, that would be really annoying.

It was a lifesaver (or Instagram saver) for me. I can’t stand feeds that show me stuff based on an algorithm because then I miss a whole bunch of stuff I want to see, and they invariably show me a bunch of ads, too. I prefer feeds that show me the people I follow in reverse chronological order.

Well, I got the answer. They disallowed the pension splitting between my husband and me, which increased the tax owed, as well as $371 in interest charges because it took them 4 months to process my reassessment and I have to pay for that. It chaps my ass that I only have 30 days to respond but they can take as long as they want and charge me interest for their slowness. Grr.

I have been working my way through my NM 12 Days of Fragrance “Advent Calendar”. Today being the 9th day of Christmas, SOTD was Jo Malone Myrrh & Tonka. So far, this one, Histoire d’Orangers, CC Rock Rose, and Rose of No Man’s Land have been my favorites. I find some of the others to smell too masculine to my nose, so I will likely pass them along to DH.

I am enjoying it. It is nice to have largish samples (really minis, not samples, I think they are all at least 5 ml) that I can either spray or splash rather than dab. I love mini bottles anyway (that is, those that are mini versions of the FB), so even if I don’t care for the fragrance, it isn’t a total loss. The little mini Jo Malone, Penhaligon’s, l’Artisan, etc bottles are adorable! So far, I haven’t outright hated anything, I just thought some would be more suitable for DH.

The calendar is OOS on NM’s website, but it appears that at some point it went to 50% off, or $77.50, which really would have been a good deal. Now, however, I am seeing it show up on ebay for some very inflated prices. People are asking ~$400 for it. I don’t know if anyone will actually pay that, nor should they.

Not all of them are minis; I would say about half. The others are standard cylindrical travel spray vials. I checked the sizes; two of them were not labeled, at least not in any way I could read, but I took them to be 5 ml. They range in size from 5 ml to 10 ml, for about 85 ml total, so the $155 price is not at all bad for the amount of perfume you get.

I liked the calendar and thought it was worth the money, even at full price. They are generous minis (yes, all 5-10 ml). The Rose of No Man’s Land is why I bought it, in the end — tried it years ago and liked it, so it seemed to make sense to get a mini, which is all I will ever need of it. In the end, nothing in there that I MUST buy, but I don’t regret having the minis (except for the Oud Maracuja. Never again on that scrubber that I couldn’t even scrub off).

It’s cloudy and rain is expected later, I hope to sneak a walk in today before it gets wet. Enjoying the day off before back to work on Thursday!

For Christmas my Boss gifted me 5 vintage mini perfumes.
Passion, Ceasars Woman, Todd Oldham, K de Krizia and Anne Klein. Today I am wearing the Anne Klein. 2 drops and it is glorious! I immediately get civet. Fragrantica says civetta? I don’t know what the difference is but I smell fantastic.
He also gifted me a partial bottle of EL Dazzling Gold. Unfortunately it has gone a bit off. I keep randomly spraying it, hoping to bring it back to life.

Happy New Year y’all since I didn’t get around to commenting over the long weekend. For the CP today, I’ve taken inspiration from those phrase in the color description: “a feeling of kindness and tenderness, communicating a message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.” I think there’s a lot of all that in the perfume community, especially here. So I’m wearing a perfume gifted to me by our own She-ra, Boucheron Trouble. She saw me lamenting that my Trouble dry oil had gone off and offered me her unloved partial bottle. Such kindness in sharing perfume!
