Friday scent of the day 11/17

Posted by Robin on 17 November 2023 210 Comments

Happy Gratitude Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that you feel grateful for coming into your life, that arrived at the right time, helped you face a difficult situation, or simply enriches your day when you wear it. Gratitude to Kanuka for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

It is true that if I had to escape and could only grab one perfume, it’d be Diorissimo, but if it was only one brand, it would surely be Hermès. Props to Hermès for (a) hiring perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena, whose work I was already following avidly when he was made house perfumer back in 2004, and (b) putting out all his work in (cute!) 15 ml bottles at a not-insane price. Absolutely unsettling

Some of these seem deliberately designed to unsettle or confuse. But Not Today, a Hannibal-inspired fragrance by Filippo Sorcinelli, is designed to smell like fear and anxiety. One TikTok user said it made their “hair stand up on end. My husband recoiled when he smelled it… absolutely unsettling.” Another said it “smells like a torture chamber, indeed, I had to scrub it off immediately.”

The daily lemming

In case you have plenty of extra cash lying about this holiday, just screaming for a purpose, here's the D-Air diffuser from Dior: "Born from a collaboration between the excellence of La Collection Privée Christian Dior's savoir-faire and the technological expertise of the French brand Compoz Paris, the D-Air fragrance diffuser is a singular object, a genuine manifesto of beauty with a pure and contrasting design. Intuitive to use, it features a simple refill system, a one-touch start, and an ajustable diffusion time. This exceptional piece works with capsules that diffuse the olfactory notes of Thé Osmanthus, Ambre Nuit, Oud Supreme, Jardin d'Orangers and Figue Méditerranée." $2900. I think it includes the 5 fragrance capsules but I'm not sure and hey, what's the difference. Refill capsules are $95 each or $475 for the set of 5.
