An enjoyable, inoffensive smell

Posted by Robin on 22 December 2023 3 Comments

Cé Noir has an enjoyable, inoffensive smell — and that’s my main issue with it. Of the few things Beyoncé said about the scent in her unboxing video, what stood out was that she wanted to create a “monolithic” fragrance. It’s accurate. It smells like someone who is comfortable with uniformity and sameness, which feels out of step with the whole vibe of Renaissance.

“An enjoyable, inoffensive smell” seems like the dominant mode of modern perfumery. Most everything I smell these days makes me think, “Oh, this again.” I can’t remember the last time I was surprised. I guess I’m just jaded.

“I wanted to create something monolithic and I wanted something to have a little bit of intimacy, so, right here, you can see inside the soul of the perfume”

She was referring to the BOTTLE. Not the scent. I cannot STAND IT when something is assumed based on a quote, and they don’t even get the quote right.
