For the next 4 days (and weekend!) I will wear my Guerlain purchases from this year and they are definitely amongst my top buys.
Today’s sotd is Shalimar MI. Nothing more needed be said about this beauty. I love it.
I went into Diptyque to buy a bub of Benjoin Boheme in the original cracked glass bottle because I heard about the reformulation and downsizing (from 100 to the signature 75ml oval bottle) and steep price hike and I was in luck because I got the last bottle!

I’m in Bulgari Black, and I’m not sure why lol. We made it through last night’s storm, and there’s another one today. Went to bed but was woken 90 min later because the house, and the walls, nd the bed were shaking. And the shaking continued for a bit, so the cat and I went downstairs to the couch. Another bout of something coming at us today. But-there’s yoga tonight!

Today I’m wearing Badgley Mischka, the original, an intense liquor of stewed fruits and osmanthus. Big and beautiful and infinitely superior to their second eponymous fragrance, I’m not sure why it didn’t catch on.
The whole line didn’t catch on, and not entirely sure why.

Commando at the moment, at least until my headache goes away. Will play perfume roulette after and see what I come up with. I’m really not sure what perfumes I’ve bought this year because I’m a loser perfumista and don’t keep records or create spreadsheets. I never had a perfumista card, but if I did, I’m sure it would be revoked. 🫤

I keep a spreadsheet, but not for when I purchased anything. Mine is more for all the samples I have tried so I don’t repeat them or don’t buy full bottles if I didn’t like the sample😂
I’ve sworn off samples, but this makes sense. Pretty sure I’ve ordered the same sample more than once in the past…🙄

Today will be my 1st day back at work after vacation. There is about 3 inches of snow on the ground and pretty cold out. I was going to wear Clinique Happy but it is too cold to enjoy it so I am in Coco Mademoiselle Intense today.

Scented up before I knew what the CP is this week, but accidentally semi-conformed: I’m in Chloe Nomade EDT (bottle, late 2022), and I’m trying out Oriza L. Legrand Deja Le Printemps (sample bought this year). I’ve been a little obsessed with the latter lately. Not certain if it’s the fragrance itself or the concept.
If there was a new theme for me in 2023, it was interest in green perfumes (as in plant smells, rather than environmentally friendly formulations). I already had a couple, so it’s not entirely new ground.
Also, vetiver has been a particular interest lately. Neiman’s SA thought I *needed* to try Marly’s Delina La Rosee last weekend, which I thought was kind of delightful, but also, skews young? At any rate, it has vetiver in the base, which sent me down the vetiver rabbit hole.
Eris Parfums Green Spell is green. It’s not particularly green but let’s say it has a great scent for the 3-4 hours it sticks.
I’m enjoying vetiver a lot too. It’s a bit of a perfume mystery why particular notes suddenly become so attractive but it’s a wonderful part of the fragrant experience.
I’ve had exactly the same experience. In fact, just before my current violet phase it was vetiver.

So far, my one and only vetiver-centric perfume in full bottle form is ELdO’s Far Electrician.
One of the Elizabeth & James perfumes was a lovely rose/vetiver scent.
I am scentless for an eye doc appointment this morning but yesterday I tried the Guerlain Bergamote extrait. Lots of bergamot and lots of aldehydes to my nose. Not remarkable in general and definitely not for the price and it being marketed as an extrait. Most reviews have said this one was the dud of the bunch. 😆

SotD is Zen Classic cologne in the splash bottle. I heard folks saying it was HTF here, then I found an online seller who had it and offered free shipping from Japan. 😯 Full confession: I ordered it partly because I wanted that gorgeous bottle, too.
It’s the perfect thing for the calm after the storm. Blue sky and bright sun we have here today, after having had 2” of rain pour down us yesterday.

Today’s choice for a favorite purchase of the year is Divine by Providence Perfume Company. I found a travel spray from back when they did travel sprays instead of mini roller balls on Mercari for $10! It was a blind buy of a perfume that had been on my to-try list for a long while, and I love it! It’s a rich, slightly funky orange blossom over a mossy vanilla musk.

By far my best purchase this year has been Shalimar MI so I may wear it all week. Probably not though. After a few days I usually need to wear something else.
For all you nurses and doctors: Have you heard of Eagle Syndrome? I have felt for the last few months like something was stuck in my tonsil/throat. Finally, I went to an ENT physician that did a CT scan of my neck. Glad it is not cancer, but not sure how long I want to just leave it without surgery. All my years as a nurse I had never heard of it.
I have never heard of that syndrome but I am glad that it wasn’t something worse. Hopefully, you can find a helpful course of treatment to alleviate the symptoms🌸
It is very rare. I am going to hold off for a while but will probably eventually have to have surgery.
I thought of Globus Sensation at first from your description. Never heard of Eagle Syndrome. Sounds pretty uncommon. Hope it’s not causing you too much discomfort…
It is very rare. It is the styloid process (bone) that is elongated and sticking into my tonsil. It feels like a popcorn husk. Luckily, it doesn’t bother me all the time, but probably will have to have surgery at some point to get the bone out.
Ouch! That sounds miserable. But yes, glad it is NOT cancer and that it does seem fixable when you are ready.

SOTD isn’t my favorite 2023 purchase, but a very happy blind buy (when I saw Masque Milano had a lot out there on steep discount): White Whale. Someone on Fragrantica mentioned this as a “petrichor” scent, and I agreed upon first wear. Today I’m catching more of the floral notes. Very refreshing.

I stopped in Kohl’s today for some make-up, and did some sniffing at the mini-Sephora. There was a helpful associate who found the two make-up items I was looking for promptly and with a smile. They were not super busy. I sniffed TF Cafe Rose and V&R Flowerbomb Ruby Orchid. I liked both, but Ruby Orchid won. When my no buy is over next month, I could see getting a travel spray.

Posting late today. Busy day after a terrible night of sleep last night. Woke up at 3:30 and didn’t fall back asleep until around 6am or so.
On a less serious note, my “Commuting Woes” story from Sunday. I took mass transit to and from the Philly airport. On the second train of the day (PATCO), I was settling in for the ride into NJ. A few minutes later, I heard a guttural grunt/growl.
WTH?
I figured it was a train noise. But a few minutes later, I heard it again. After some investigation (and more grunt/growls), I discovered that it was coming from a fellow passenger. And at regular intervals.
Weird, right?
I figured I wouldn’t be hearing it for too long, since I had to change over to NJT and a bus. Wouldn’t you know it, The Growler/Grunter got off at the same stop I did. But they did NOT take the same bus! Not sure where they went.
SOTD = commando again, except for Dame Perfumery Osmanthus body butter on my shins.
